Good location, friendly helpful staff, food excellent, good fresh ingredients. Overall a pleasant hotel. The matress on the bed far to soft.
This is a delightful country house hotel that oozes old fashioned charm. The walls are adorned with historic paintings and sports memorabilia. Within the extensive grounds there are ample sports facilities for all the family with lovely walks along the banks of the River Otter. Great breakfasts, friendly staff and rewarding retreat for nature lovers.
We were only there for one night, but it was very comfortable, the staff were helpful and pleasant. Good choice of breakfasts, from the normal full English to haddock and poached egg etc. The bar was kept open until the early hours so we could have a nightcap when we got back that evening, but no noise or anything like that. I think this hotel would be lovely in the summer with the grounds and outside tables, they also have a swimming pool which looked like it would be nice. not really.
A lovely country house hotel with bags of original features, yet with all the comfort one could possibly expect. Would definitely stay again. I found the whole experience very relaxing and luxurious. Didn't like the toilet being separate from main bathroom. No shower either.
Excellent food, friendly staff, amazing location. However, we were told on internet that only one room was available. When we got there the hotel was virtually empty. Poor dribbly shower. Overall the hotel is in need of refurbishment
We loved the beautiful staircase and atmospheric log fires. Waking up to birdsong and getting right away from the rush and hustle of city life. Our mews rooms were clean, comfortable and had terrific character. The bed was very comfortable. The food at dinner was terrific and well served. There was a lighter room service menu but we would have liked this to be available some evenings in the main hotel. We enjoyed the walk down to the river despite being rather damp underfoot because of recent flooding. The staff were very responsive and did their best to put any niggles right. The rate we paid was very competitive, but we would have thought it was overpriced at the full rate. What a shame all the meals were served in a dining room where the wonderful views were completely blocked by a marquee. This was especially annnoying as the hotel was not busy and there were other dining areas available which were not used. Our mews rooms were cold and the radiators turned on and off by a timer with no access to turn them on at other times. A fan was supplied but this was noisy and quickly became stuffy. The shower head would not stay on and the bath was deep, narrow and difficult to get out of. The hot water was scalding in our room and only lukewarm in our son's room across the corridor. Access road was long, rough, muddy and very potholed.
Very Quiet, Scenic Access roads very poor - single track poorly maintained Some facilities in room did not work Other facilities not looked after well
The charm of the place. A place you can hide away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. Good cooked English breakfast for those who are not veggi. Staff willing and did provide eggs, beans, toms and mushrooms. Overall we had a lovely stay and would go back at sometime if the place had a refit and new beds and linen. Room very out dated. Old quilts and mattress. Hand held shower, impossible to have a descent shower especially if you have trouble sitting in the bath. Also suggest a new white toilet seat as it was very old. I would like to suggest too (as I was a little disappointed) that they serve everyday, as there was no fresh berry fruits, natural yogurt and croissants.. You do not always want, orange juice, apple juice, tinned prunes and tinned grapefruit More variety definitely needed.
The hotel was a slightly eccentic charming country hotel, set in superb grounds. The staff and service were excelent - as was the food.
The sporting memorabilia was interesting to see and read. There are many parts of the hotel which are in a poor state of repair and it was not heated well considering the time of year. Access to the hotel is potholed and likely to do damage to ones car if not careful.
Quietness, room well presented, comfy bed, lovely breakfast, friendly staff.
Food was excellent
Very nice room with very comfy 4 poster bed, well worth the £80 we paid inc a very nice breakfast and service Room was cold on arrival because it was snowing but this was very quickly sorted out with the addition of extra heaters - thank you
The food was plentiful, excellent standard and a good menu. Staff were efficient and friendly. Our room was very spacious.Good value for money.
Very comfortable, all the staff made us both feel welcome.Food in the evening was excellent
friendly staff as usual.
Quiet location, ease of access dark room that had obviously been a smoking room prevously. decor is starting to show ts age
We were in the area for a family party and just needed a comfortable place for two nights bed & breakfast so it was just right for our needs The coffee at breakfast was luke warm when milk added - suggest hot or warm milk instead of very cold!!
Room was basically clean. Breakfast was good. Decor was very dated and of poor quality - the room and bathroom desperatetly needed a facelift. There was alot of noise from the games room below.
The friendly atmosphere, the food and the comfortable beds. The bathroom to our room needs a makeover. It could do with some grab handles and a shelf for bits and pieces,
Excellent attention to detail
relaxed atmosphere the bed was too soft
The location is great, the food is excellent and the facilities a of a very high standard
Friendliness, hotel was more like a large Guest House or as they say in Aussie a Boutique Hotel. The pub opposite gave a another choice to eat and the publican and his wife (plus clientelle) made us as equally welcome. Can't think of anything
Hospitality first class. Similar with breakfast. Basically pleasant change form chain hotels Bed not very comfortable. Could do with new matress
The food is amazing There are too many rules within the hotel. It makes it hard to relax.
Very friendly service, excellent food interesting rooms with every detail considered. Rooms were quite small andd bathroom ventilation could be improved, the welcoming lounge offset lack of seating in the bedrooms
Warm welcome. Excellent dinner. Bathroom was very clean etc but it is very dated.
The owners were very friendly and made you feel very welcome. There were a lot of pluses, the really comfortable bed, the toiletries, the tea, coffeee and fruit juices. The breakfast was superb, and I would have liked to sample an evening meal, but time did not allow.
This was a fantastic find. Sara Louise was super, we were only sorry that we didn't eat here too. The whole experience was super
Excellent restaurant service and food/wine Rooms were too small
Food Good Room very small and in need of refurbishment otherwise ok
Tim the manager was very helpful and friendly. The room we had the headboard on the bed rattled when you moved in the bed.
Convenience of being on main road, easy to find in the dark. Friendliness of owner. Lovely bathroom, new towels and toiletries.Warm in minus temperatures.
Food in restaurant was superb - good choice and presentation
Friendly and cooperative attitude of Staff. Quality of food No
It was very quiet if this is what you looking for. Very little space for clothing once unpacked and nowhere to store suitcase. Garden patio area quite rundown. Minimal staffing levels.
Over priced, adequate accomodation, friendly staff. Hotel up for sale, staff being made redundant, poor service due to staff and stock being run down.
The hotel was very convenient and easy to find. We arrived early evening and all the outside lights were on giving an excellent first impression. There is ample parking and the exterior is very attractive, leading to high expectations. The food was delicious. The hotel seemed to be understaffed. We were shown to a room in an extension, accessed from outside. The staff member couldn't open the door and we had to carry our bags back to the foyer whilst she found another room for us. We then had to carry everything back outside to a room adjacent to the original one. The same lady was the only person on duty at dinner, other than the chef. She clearly could not do everything at once and so service was rather slow. The bed was rather small and I just think that £90 was very expensive for the quality of the accommodation and service
very friendly staff. excellant food.
