An inspirational blend of 5-star polish and panAfrican panache, this world-class hotel will showcase the cream of Ugandan culture while delivering the ultimate in personalized service, international cuisine, social style and business reliability.Serena's Uganda flagship, the Kampala Serena Hotel is an inspirational blend of 5-star polish, pan-African panache, social style and business reliability.Ideally located at the very heart of Kampala, our luxury business hotel stands amidst 7.2 acres of landscaped grounds and water gardens. An oasis of cool and green, encircled by the seven hills of Kampala, this 152-room world-class hotel is the focal point of national, regional, business, political and social life.Drawing its architectural inspiration from the abundance of Uganda's lakes and rivers, the hotel has been created around a central water theme, which manifests itself both in the extensive water gardens and in the hand-carved panels and shimmering mosaics with which it is decorated.Inspirationally styled as a Kampala showcase for Ugandan art, this unique 5-star hotel offers; an international conference centre, a garden auditorium, a roof-top terrace, a rock-sculptured pool terrace, three restaurants, two bars and the Moorish palace of the Maisha Mind Body and Spirit Spa'.
The Resort is styled to replicate the lines of a classically rustic Roman Villa which might just as easily standamid the sunflowers of the Tuscan Hills, as on the shores of Africas largest lake. This resort will offer both a contrast and an extension to the 5-star profile of the flagship Kampala Serena Hotel, thus ensuring that the Serena Portfolio embraces all the aspects of Ugandas social and cooperate life. Future developments on the property include a golf-course, marina and luxury residential complex.Rising on gentle slopes above the marina with long views across the lush greens to Lake Victoria beyond, the hotel itself has been styled to echo an Italian palace with its campanile, glittering mosaics, rustically arched pool terrace and shaded colonnades. Set within the grounds, amid water cascades and fountains, is a Roman coliseum, which offers the ultimate wedding or event arena. And, widely spaced amongst the shaded pathways of the gardens, clusters of pastel-painted villas house the rooms, all of which enjoy panoramic views across the Marina to the hazy expanses of Africas second largest lake.

Pros: Location and price were great. The hotel was secure (gated and guarded). The check in process was smooth and receptionist friendly. The room (stayed in 16) had a fairly nice view and was furnished nicely and was clean.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable. I prefer a firm mattress but this was almost unbearable. The wifi was painfully slow. I would have been better off tethering my phone to my friends using the local 3G network. The TV had six channels...of the six, three were soccer, one was news, and two were nothing. I did receive a notice under the door on the last day saying there was "technical problems" but it still sucked. I wouldn't have needed the TV, but it rained for a good portion of the morning and I would have liked to relax to the TV. Also, the TV was painfully small. Like a 20" screen quite far from the bed. The a/c was quite loud at times, but nothing that would prevent one from sleeping.
I think my biggest frustrations (aside from the mattress )was the lack of hot water on the last day...semi forgivable because it's Africa, but still. And lastly, the location of the room was awful. It was adjacent to the stairway that lead to the lower rooms, and I could hear every person stomping up and down the stairs, as well as the staff cleaning the grounds.
