In autumn evenings, I love to walk Karpenisi's streets. They remind me of Greenwich Village in the 1960s, except Karpenisi is much older, very hilly, and the streets are narrow and twisty. The churches, cafes and squares are beautiful. They're not affected, just naturally Greek, intended to be enjoyed by Greeks. I particularly like the light smell of wood fires from the houses. I frequently go out on my balcony just before bedtime for a few last sniffs. In this last visit I would wake up to see clouds engulf all the nearby peaks, and in midday I'd walk to places like the church of Saint Nicholas, which is the only building on a nearby hill, sitting near the peak. When I'd want to be even more adventurous I'd walk down to the botanical gardens in the park "Kefalovryso" or walk uphill towards the ski area, to the highest elevations in the city. - The hotel staff, as always, were very pleasant and enjoyable, and the apartments, whether they be large or just studios, are always comfortable, warm and cozy
Good value spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation, with a warm welcoming host, in a very convenient, central location.
The apartments are in a good location, close to the centre of town, to shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. They are not signposted, but they are quite easy to find via Google Maps, and there is street parking nearby. There is a large lobby-cum-lounge. We had reserved a ‘Standard Studio with Garden View’ but were given a free upgrade (to a ‘Studio (2 adults)’?) The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our studio’s bathroom and kitchen were very nicely appointed and contemporary, whereas the large bedroom had a style more aimed at old-fashioned elegance, with dark wood furniture, etc. The room had a double bed with a firm mattress, various side tables and chairs, and a sofa-bed. There was also a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. A very small balcony overlooked the town to the mountains beyond. The kitchen had a full-sized cooker, small fridge, electric kettle and coffee-maker, and there was a frying pan, a large saucepan, and basic crockery, cutlery and glassware. The small bathroom has a good-sized washbasin set into a marble countertop with plenty of space. The shower had sliding glass doors, and mini soap tablets and mini shampoo/shower gel were provided. Hot water was via an electric boiler. The wi-fi worked well. We stayed for two nights, and the garbage was taken and clean towels provided after the first day.
There is no A/C, so an electric fan would have been useful. The pillows were rather hard. There was no furniture on the balcony (too small), nor any washing line. The hot water boiler is evidently very small, since it produced barely enough hot water for one shower. The shower doors seemed to be in need of maintenance, since it was very difficult to get them properly closed. Despite the kitchen having a full-sized cooker, there is very little provision for cooking – no sharp knives or cutting boards, no wooden spoons or spatulas, etc. Nor even a draining board or drying rack for crockery, etc. Likewise, although the main room is large, there is no set-up for dining table and chairs.
Perfect appartment i perfect location, with perfect view. We could not ask for more.
No place to dry plates and wet kitchen utensils
Great location and very friendly and helpful staff! We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.
