The home is on the national register of historic places and is particularly noted for its rare collection of 1920‘s Batchelder tile. The hand-made tiles while typically only found sparingly used around fireplaces abound in the Great Room of the home with an entire floor made of this rare and unique tile. As seen in the photos: the home contains curiosities from around the globe. Visual delights are everywhere from a massive Indian “floating door” in the living room to Mughal empire inspired tapestry crafted of golden thread and semi-precious stones of Kashmiri origin. Ancient thrown pots from Israel sit atop intricately carved wooden columns surrounded by Brazilian antiques nestled within a 35 foot high cathedral ceiling. A 12th Century Cambodian Apsara the female spirit of the clouds and waters quietly bemuse our guests while Moroccan glow lanterns adorn Persian artifacts and antique tea pots on display. Have your morning tea or coffee outside on the veranda overlooking Los Angeles with a delightfully friendly but exotic Black Russian Terrier. This is a quiet serene place of reflection, rebirth and rejuvenation. Our guests always have a reserved parking spot near one of the antique fountains with a private entrance to the home and feather bedded Zen garden retreat. 7.7 Good
Cons: The bed too soft & too noise
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel! Staff very friendly and helpful
Cons: Expensive... We ordered room service late one night and didn't get half of it because they had ran out, but no phone call was made to us or given the opportunity to order something else.
7.7 Good
Pros: Lovely grounds and common areas
Cons: There were no blankets for extra bed.
6.8 Good
Pros: Beautiful grounds!
Cons: For the price, things didn't seem up to par. Our room wasn't super clean... chair had food stains. Ice room was very dirty and old. Lots of construction around pool area. Room was okay. Bathroom was nicer than the room. Paint, wallpaper, etc. around the hotel need to be updated and cleaned.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel views
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a gem in setting and appearance. The staff exceptionally courteous and helpful. The restaurant and bars amazing
Cons: My particular room, 1702 needed a slight furniture update, and oddly was short a breakfast order door hang tag and the second day I received no bottled water replacement.
7.6 Good
Cons: Older property that has charm, but for a 5 star hotel the hotel staff falls short of offering a 5 star experience. In addition, because rooms are older, it's hard to find an easily accessible electricity plug to charge your phone at night. In fact, the only one I could find was in the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the Concierge level that I upgraded to as well as the staff!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Loved it!
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place. History and luxury
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Liked everything! Especially the complimentary shuttle service.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Love that the hotel has beautiful lush grounds to walk around. Very pleasant staff and clean rooms.
Cons: We were given a room at the Villa Clara and while a gorgeous building, our dbl beds were too short and made for an uncomfortable nights sleep.
dusitD2 Hotel Constance Pasadena - Pasadena - Building
3
9.0 Excellent (1,720 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The newly opened upscale DusitD2 Hotel Constance Pasadena is a seven-story building with a history dating back to 1926. However, its refreshed look is a departure from its rich history and now features a sleek, modern, and visually stimulating design. The hotel is quiet with an upscale boutique feel that attracts younger travelers and couples looking for something outside of hotel chains. Located in Pasadena’s business district, the hotel is at the corner of Mentor and Colorado. The hotel is within short walking distance to numerous shops, cafes, restaurants, a cinema complex, and a grocery store. The hotel is on the route of the world-famous Tournament of Roses Parade and within 10 minutes of Old Pasadena, The Rose Bowl, Santa Anita Park, and the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Guest will find Universal Studio Hollywood and the Dodger Stadium 25 minutes away. For guests wanting to travel anywhere within a three-mile radius, the hotel operates a free six-seat, Asian-style Tuk Tuk. Recently, Hotel Constance Pasadena added a rooftop pool, hot tub, and a poolside fitness center for guest’s enjoyment. Original highlights like the upscale full-service restaurant that serves Cal Asian cuisine, the Blue Room Lounge with free nightly entertainment, and plenty of meeting facilities are still available to guest’s conveniences. Accommodations at the hotel are modern and stylish and come in a variety of sizes ranging from standard to Deluxe Terrace and 12 Suites. Standard amenities in all rooms include mini-fridges with free bottled water, Keurig coffeemakers, free WiFi, and robes. Each room also features the convenience of an iPad that controls lighting and temperature and offers other applications like housekeeping requests. Step away from the boring chain hotels and stay at the funky Hotel Constance Pasadena.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The design was fun but also honored the history of the hotel. Great location.
Cons: No pool but they are going to have a roof top pool at the end of phase 2/ the end of 2016.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in a recently renovated 7 story 1920/30's building in downtown Pasadena. Close to banks, restaurants and shopping. Décor is chic modern. Due to it's newness, rooms and public spaces were very clean, fresh and attractive. The hotel has expansion plans for this year to include a centrally located pool area. Staff was very friendly. Parking is strictly valet and off site. I did not use the restaurant or bar areas and my stay was just 1 night.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Love the bathtub and heated toilet seat. King size bed so comfortable.
Cons: The cost of the deposit and hold on the room was over $600!!!
9.1 Excellent
Pros: How modern it was.
Cons: Parking was a bit pricey.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Food was great in the resturant! Better than expected. The staff was very friendly and upbeat, offering to help at every opportunity.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: I sought a boutique hotel that catered to mostly adults to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. My husband are local to the LA area and familiar with Pasadena, but wanted to escape overnight. We had plans for a fine dinner at Ruth Chris, and dancing after with the Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association. The hotel was perfectly situated for both of these plans and the rest of Old Town was well within reach. We like modern, chic places, and have stayed at such in NYC, Las Vegas and DTLA. Hotel Constance was on par with all of those, if, perhaps, lacking a pool, and a bit more vibrantly populated bar and dining area. Loved the styling, the in room amenities, the quiet of the room itself, and the location for our chosen activities-everything was in walking distance, which added to the romance. A very creative place, staff were cheerful, helpful and engaging. Would certainly make another "staycation" plan based from this hotel.
Cons: We were only on an overnight, and we did not have a need to use our car. $25 for overnight valet was a pretty stiff charge. We probably could have parked elsewhere for less, but it was offset some by the cute electric shuttle, and the ride we received within an easy radius of the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were fantastic: very friendly and they went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. The room was clean and nicely appointed. The in-hotel food was great too. The location is good for CalTech, less than a mile to walk in. I have the impression that the hotel's rate is normally over the GSA limit but this time -- thankfully -- it was not.
Cons: There's really nothing I didn't like. No microwave but you really don't need one in this location (downtown Pasadena); there are restaurants everywhere.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: One of the few things that makes business travel bearable is finding unusual hotels in attractive locations at reasonable prices. The dusitD2 Hotel Constance is just such a find. Stayed for 1 night on business with 2 colleagues. It's a lovely old building with very extensive recent remodeling. The room, though small, was very thoughtfully laid out with no bathroom wall, but frosted glass doors separating the shower and toilet, tasteful mirroring, two large windows and furniture that made the room seem larger than its square footage. Unlike the lobby, the styling of the room and hallways really works. This does not look like your standard chain hotel. I particularly appreciated the multiple touch pads on the walls to control lighting, heat and air, as well as the bedside tablet also with lighting and hvac controls and helpful information, such as weather. Bed, linens, pillows, two robes all high quality and quite comfortable. Large flat screen TV, Keurig coffee maker, free wifi, mini fridge, small but workable closet - just don't bring a lot of clothes on hangars.. My room facing the courtyard and next door construction was quiet and private. Use of plantation shutters rather than curtains contributed to the sense of spaciousness, kept out unwanted light and served to dull outside noises. Breakfast in the dining room was pretty good and reasonably priced. All staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: The lobby and restaurant seem "over styled" for my taste. The old Spanish Revival character of the lobby has been sacrificed to a swoopy, white/gold/shocking blue aesthetic that is neither welcoming nor particularly attractive. There is no pool and I did not see an exercise room, but I didn't look, either. Parking was expensive at $25/night. If I had to do a lot of business out of a hotel room, I would not stay here. The open bathroom design would not work well if you are sharing a room with anyone other than an intimate. The desk is small and the desk chair just marginally comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The refurbishment was done very well.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Bath tub spa. Toilet. Big TV
Cons: Keurig cups, water bottles, and toiletries were not restocked on regular basis. Studio still felt small.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious, modern, luxurious and clean. The bed was comfortable with good sheets and pillows. The bathroom was gorgeous tile with a really nice showerhead and good lighting. The air/heat was easy to control, the fridge/coffee maker were great and the electronics charging was a great bonus. Front desk staff and valet were really friendly.
Cons: Have a less expensive self-parking option.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Super cute boutique hotel in a great location. Close to Paseo and to Old town. The staff was super friendly.
Cons: The placement of the bathrooms were a little strange. No real privacy, so odd for newer couples.

Pros: This was my first time staying here in years. The room was comfortable and clean. We were in a new renovated room and floor, which enhanced our stay. Norman at the restaurant was great - very attentive and accommodating. The hotel is centrally located and their shuttle/car service was very convenient (they"ll drop and/or pick up within a 3 mile area).
Cons: I found the rate we paid was excessive compared to the rates I have seen for this hotel in the past.

Pros: We were staying at the Courtyard for a family wedding. The negotiated group rate was fantastic...$119 per night for Friday and Saturday. The pool became the gathering place for all of us staying at the hotel. Loved the space. It allowed us to spend more time together. The restaurant food was much better than expected.
Cons: The hotel would not honor the group rate for Thursday night. All of us traveling from the east coast had to fly in Thursday for Friday's wedding events. Service in the restaurant was slow.

9.7 Excellent
Pros: Fast check in, easy parking, courteous and efficient staff. We arrived, had valet parking ($2 difference between valet and self-serve overnight parking cost). Walked right up to desk with no wait. 3 minutes later I had keys in my hand. Room was clean and adequately appointed. In the morning my receipt was waiting for me and a call just before I left my room had my car waiting by the time I was in the lobby.
Cons: Complete lack of jet packs and flying cars but I've yet to find a hotel with an adequate supply of them.
5.4 Okay
Pros: I was with a group of teachers in town for a conference at the Pasadena Convention Center, so it was nice that we were within walking distance.
Cons: I will definitely be staying at another hotel next year. If you wanted internet it cost $10, there was no refrigerator, the girl at the front desk was rude and unhappy to help, the Starbucks on site only served coffee and tea (espresso machine broken), and you could hear the noise from the adjoining rooms.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Very spacious rooms. I love the comforters and the pillows and all the blankets and sheets. Good size of a mini fridge. I like the coffee provided in the rooms, Coffee Bean! The TVs are clean crisp and powerful in sound and graphics. The water pressure is awesome. The rooms and hallways are pretty quiet and great for relaxing. I also really like the alarm clock/radio/music setup on the bedside. So nice!
Cons: The valet is $23 per night, but every encounter with them was somewhat of a hassle... for them? The first encounter the employee pretended like he did not hear my husband speaking clearly to him. I do not understand the point of having a service job if you do not want to serve customers or at least acknowledge their presence... the second counter, a different employee of the valet saw us standing there waiting for assistance for our car's retrieval, and did not acknowledge or greet us in any way. We had waited for someone else we thought was the valet and was mistaken. But again, we are guests, do not know who works for what, and was not aided in what we needed... the third encounter took a very long time. My point is there is no need to pay for a valet that should park and retrieve your car, if they will not or cannot make that purpose easier for the guests.
4.0 Okay
Cons: Front desk staff was sub par.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: I thought the staff was exceptionally courteous and helpful. In general, a very pleasant place to stay, and I would stay there again.
Cons: The hallway by my room smelled musty, like a dog on a rainy day. The price of valet parking and breakfast seemed mysterious to me, poorly explained and arbitrary.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds are clean and comfy The staff was great The bell hopes did everything for you with a smile The bar staff understand your drink needs The front desk staff is quick and good
Cons: The shower had a clogged drain It was fixed but it was the down side of the trip
6.2 Good
Cons: Needs massive refurbishment. Everything old and tired... Furniture, bed, HVAC, you name it. Parking also was $19/$21 for self/valet... too high.
4.2 Okay
Cons: Heard music in our room coming from outside all night long.... Front desk staff unhelpful and unpleasant.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location was decent. Food in the bar was pretty good.
Cons: The rooms were super outdated and old. Paid for an upgraded room and the bathroom was the size of a very small cabinet. No outlet covers in our room just exposed plugs.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Room was clean and bed was super comfortable
Cons: Tub was leaking and it didn't drain well so there was always a collection of water
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Near old town Pasadena and good restaurants
Cons: The price was a smudge too much
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Efficient check in Clean room overall good experience
Cons: Bar service could be much better

Pros: I liked that they served breakfast that was included
Cons: I didn't like the fact that, I had to give a $100 deposit up front. That caught me by surprise, which I didn't like. I have gotten best western before and I didn't have those hidden charges. So that left us with $100 less for our weekend and that didn't go well for the kids.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Overall, the feeling was modern, clean, comfortable, and a place where I could do work as well as relax. The place is under renovation. There are still a few things that needed to be done in the room especially in the bathroom. But they were minor details, that will probably be addressed as they complete the renovation.
Cons: The shower head was too high.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a good experience.
6.0 Good
Pros: The stay
Cons: The reception did not know what to do. Disturbed my stay.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice beds (although very high) and pillows. Breakfast was good! The breakfast lady was very friendly and quick at refilling the breakfast!
Cons: The TV cable was out the whole night and next morning but it wasn't their fault, there was a big storm. They had a cable truck there when we came but it was still never fixed. I think they should have gave us a discount but didnt! no receipt because computer was out...again I'm sure because of the storm!

7.4 Good
Pros: The location was good: close to Old Town Pasadena. It was nice to have free parking and breakfast included.
Cons: The bathroom was somewhat dirty, the coffee machine didn't work, and we were on the first floor and there was a lot of noise from the parking lot. Plus, the door jam was not sealed, so light seeped in from outside all night, making me wonder about the security of the room (114), since it seemed like someone might be able to push something through the door jam and open the top security latch. So that I could finally sleep without thinking that someone would break in, I finally pushed a chair under the door handle and tried to twist a hanger around the top latch to reinforce it. When I told the (nice) front desk person about these issues in the morning, he only apologized.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extra blanket! Comfort. Cleanliness. Friendly staff. Quiet!
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Room was clean, bed was comfortable, includes TV microwave and fridge. Free continental breakfast starts at 6 AM but I didn't try it out. Parking lot does get full but I had no issues with parking.
Cons: Talking outside on the balcony after 11 PM
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Great price, clean, location, breakfast nook.
Cons: Small tub.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The man who checked us in and woman who checked us out were nice. My coworker and I stayed in two rooms for a business trip. The price was better than some of the other higher name brand hotels, but it didn't look as bad as the motels in the area.
Cons: The bathtub was very dirty. Soap scum and I'm not sure what else were on the bathtub, and the spout could have been cleaner, as well. The sink could also have been cleaned better. The beds seemed okay.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean and large. I was able to get an upgrade for free. The room had a mini frige, microwave, coffee maker. had a small sitting room for watching TV. Towels were small and hard. I was quite pleased for the price, other nicer hotels nearby were priced higher and also charged for parking and internet. This also offers a free breakfast, but I had to leave before it opened.
Cons: Towels were small and hard.
4.8 Okay
Pros: The gentleman at the front desk was very pleasant. It's a basic motel that could use a refresh and an exterminator.
Cons: As soon as I walked into the room, I noticed a strong, sweet odor, which I assumed to be the solution they use to clean the room. Eight hours after I left, I began noticing red welts on right arm and on my face in the characteristic linear pattern associated with bedbugs. Suddenly the sweet smell from the night before clicked (bedbug infestations are often associated with an overripe raspberry smell). My right hand swelled to almost twice its size and I itched for days. I will not be coming back.

Pros: Liked the renovated rooms.
Cons: The staff was terrible, was locked out of my room, then they locked my wife in the office, I had to get the lock working and then we were not allowed to leave as we could not get in and out of the room. The TV never worked and all on valentines which was ruined..... The rooms were expensive as well.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was quite adequate, bread bagels, waffles, sausages and eggs.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The complimentary breakfast was good. I like the variety. The room is spacious. Staff is helpful
Cons: The bathroom light took a while to brighten up. It's dim when you first turn on so we had to wait a few minutes. The switch for the light was also hard to press to turn it on. Had to try a few times. Walls were very thin so you can hear car doors and people coming in and out.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Retro-themed Interior design, cool color palette Short driving distance to places of interest
Cons: Not the cleanest- scuffs on walls, stains on cushion. Towels and bedding appeared clean though. Not as fresh as the pics online look; they were probably taken a while ago. Slept very poorly on a Saturday night due to repeatedly loud guests and police involvement multiple times throughout night.
6.0 Good
Pros: Modern design
Cons: Motel ground floor exposed noisy. People walking above sound like earthquake. Curtains too short feels like sleeping in parking lot.

4.5 Okay
Pros: The staff will n the restaurant was pretty rude
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The fruit infused water in the lobby!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beds are comfortable and clean.
Cons: Front view
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We needed a hotel in downtown Pasadena and the Sheraton was centrally located. The rooms had everything that we needed, including a mini refrigerator, iron/ironing board, lots of storage space, Ethernet jack and wireless internet. Also, I liked that parking was inside a garage rather than a surface light. The hotel was extremely clean and the staff was polite and helpful. I wish I could have stayed longer.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location next to civic center and Paseo de Colorado. Walking distance to popular areas of Pasadena. Bed was very comfortable, and I loved that it had a refrigerator and an iron in room so I didn't have to wait for someone to bring one. Room had been updated nicely. Staff was helpful and friendly.
Cons: Staid, corporate looking hotel, not a charming boutique hotel. Pool area and fitness area were small - felt a bit cramped. There was a huge area next to hotel that was just a vacant plaza. Not sure if it was on hotel property, but if so, should make use of this for nice patio or larger pool area. Exterior and hallways could use a refresh like the room had - that looked worn or dated. Good hotel, but could be much better, given its great location.
5.1 Okay
Pros: The location is good.
Cons: We come to LA for a wedding and stayed in Sheraton Pasadena. We had stairs in our room (between the bathroom and the main room). The bathroom did not have enough counter area for my makups (mine are very basic makeups, minimals for one to use). I had to put the makeups in the room. The trips between room and bathroom had to go the stairs, up and down. This was a terrible experience.
6.0 Good
Cons: Upon arrival had to wait about 30 minutes to check in due to reception staff running the nigh audit. Not a nice experience to wait for half an hour to check in at a hotel at 1:00 am. For some reason, they had us checking out a day earlier than set reservation. This led to our room being re-keyed and not made for when we returned at 10 pm after a day of being out and about. Not a good experience to show up to a hotel room with beds not made and towels on the bathroom floor.

6.0 Good
Pros: Its very clean and presentable
Cons: The parking is too limited
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: None
Cons: Staff was smoking weed, could stay there with my toddler! It was horrible shame! I want my money back!
7.4 Good
Pros: staff, location, large room, clean
Cons: strong chemical smell in room, advertised as a suite hotel but missing sofa, lobby very small and sparse for sitting
3.7 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Tattered furniture and a very old, saggy mattress. Place could use some attention /maintenance. If this was a budget motel, maybe ok, no, still not ok. It was way overpriced.
4.8 Okay
Pros: The price was relatively good. The bed was fairly comfortable.
Cons: No counter or shelf for placing anything in the bathroom. No hooks for bathroom towels. The shower curtain did not keep water off of the bathroom floor--water went right through it. The bathroom didn't look completely clean. This made me suspicious of the cleanliness of the rug--the rug was dark making cleanliness impossible to discern. There was no place to eat the meager complimentary breakfast. The parking spaces are narrow and difficult to get into and there is a shortage of spaces. The room is hot, and the air conditioner works but is very noisy, making sleep difficult.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: I was in Pasadena for a college visit with my daughter / love the hotel I was impress on how updated and clean the rooms are..... There was no iron or board in the room called the front desk in less than 5 minutes I had the iron and the board in my room....
Cons: Tight parking spaces
7.7 Good
Pros: - Good price when compared to what else was around. - Not luxury, but nicer than expected. - Fridge and microwave included.
Cons: - Not a ton of parking, and some of the spaces were pretty tight to fit into. - Some of the beds our group had were a bit too soft or sloped.
7.7 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff
Cons: Remote for TV didn't work and pretty mushy mattress
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Remodeled room with all the amenities. Nice place.
Cons: Parking lot was full except for one slot, and it was excruciatingly tight.
3.4 Mediocre
Pros: The bed was surprisingly comfortable.
Cons: Manager was rude, and tried to overcharge us. Hotel room was filthy. Walking barefoot in the rooms will turn your feet black with dirt. Our door didn't shut all the way unless we pulled it HARD. Hotel stinks in the hallways AND in the rooms. Very limited parking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was clean and quiet, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

8.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great and very welcoming. The TV lineup was excellent, to relax to when desired. Very clean.
Cons: The bed was too firm, especially for me with a bad back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Feeling it was safe there.
Cons: The towels were scratchy and rough.
5.1 Okay
Pros: Typical no-frills motel. Bed was comfortable and room was reasonable.
Cons: Refrigerator didn't work and wifi is so bad as to be unusable.
5.7 Okay
Cons: Manager lacks customer service skills. He is rude and condescending. Whatever happened with "the customer is always right"? Breakfast had very limited options.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: When I first arrived, the manager handled a confrontation situation with drunk occupants rapidly and restored order. Also, the renovation of the hotel was very well done compared to many budget hotels I have stayed at. Complements to a management staff that cares. I find very little of that these days. I would recommend staying at this hotel if you need to go to Pasadena.
7.7 Good
Pros: The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable..the breakfast was a little sparse and the juice was room temperature. Would of loved a fruit tray and ice cold juice, especially for the price of the rooms.
Cons: I was really pissed I had to pay a $30 early check in fee for a room that was already available. I can see them doing that if none of the rooms were not clean and they had to call someone to clean. I had been driving for three hours on no sleep from the night before. I asked the staff to tell me what the fee was for. I was told " I dont know but its been that way for 5years"! Check in time was 2pm!!!!!!! ARE U SERIOUS!!!! If I make a reservation I want my flipping room now no matter what time I arrive. I felt the man at the desk was rude by passing me off to someone else when I started questioning him about the fee and the check in / check out times. I don't stay in hotels so I don't understand how it works. In by 2pm out by 11am, that not a full 24hours!!!..other than that my trip was a pleasant one.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Friendly staff and clean room.
Cons: Older hotel that is under construction, not aestthetically pleasing in particular outside area of premises.
