The Orchard at Saddleback
Laguna Hills Mall
For one, the hotel looked very nice from the outside. They were currently doing some renovations to accommodate disabled guests, so I can't knock them for that. The actual room itself looked nice. The color scheme, the furniture choices, the vanity sink. The bathroom was kind of a cool open concept. Though the look was cohesive, it did seem pretty outdated. Also, there was still a stain on the sheet on the bed, the toilet still had some dry urine stains under the seat, and the cap that covers the plumbing for the shower head was coming off.
I needed a place to start over and landed here. Gail, the owner, was very helpful in giving me a room. She offers rooms in a variety of sizes and they were more than adequate for my needs. Gail runs the property and knows Laguna very well - she is always available to help out and Isis, a member of her staff, was great at pointing out local food and activities. It can be a little challenging finding your room if you're on an upper floor. The space outside one floor had a water spill.
Independent hotel; cool location; affordable. Laguna Beach is a fun but pricey town. The hotel recommended Madison Square and Gardens Cafe for breakfast and it was great. This hotel is right across the street from a very nice public beach and about 3/4 of a mile from the main strip of shops and galleries and restaurants. They very nicely let us borrow beach toys after it was technically check-out time. Soft fluffy bath towels. 24-hour front desk. Good parking. The person staffing the front desk when we arrived did not acknowledge I was waiting in front of him until he was darn good and ready. The person he was training did, so I knew I wasn't actually invisible. Until he finally greeted me, I honestly couldn't tell if he knew I was there even though I was about two feet in front of him. That was weird and off-putting to start. No fan or other ventilation in the bathroom; the room was like a sauna all day and night even with the AC on. Everything felt sort of clammy. The room seemed more grubby than artsy. Decorative pillows piled on the bed were not appealing, just made me wonder how often those covers got laundered. No accessible electrical outlet by the beds; didn't realize how much I missed that until I couldn't have it. Crumpled up info sheet on the desk in the room said to see hotel map on the other side, but the map was gone. The window did not seem to lock.
Very quaint. Great location but too much traffic noise. Didn't quiet down until mid nite. Way too much traffic noise.
The location was perfect, as we were in town for a wedding that was down the street. Decent continental breakfast and coffee. The staff were incredibly rude: chatting on the phone without an indication they would help us, no flexibility for an early check-in despite having vacancy (we had a wedding to get to that afternoon), little interest in making accommodations (seemed annoyed when we asked for suggestions on what to do with our hour before check-in). One of the staff members indicated that it was a crazy day, and unfortunately, we were there to be the recipient of her poor customer service
The hotel was super clean and quiet. The front desk did not have anyone there when I arrived but I only had to wait about 5 minutes. The room I stayed in had one bed and was small.
The room was quoted for a good price for the area We purchased a Queen room on line and the manager/owner put us in a room with a double bed. When we brought this to his attention he said he was sold out -- take it or leave it. Later I heard another clerk offer a two double bed room to a new customer (so the manager/owner lied to us prior, as well as trying to sneak us into a lower level/ smaller room than we paid for) Ultimately, he unhappily moved us to the larger room when we found out the truth. Also, our room was right on Newport Bld. and very exposed to loud cars and a drunk guy that wandered off the street and knocked on our door - which we didn't answer.
Location was 20 mins from Disneyland and about 10 mins from Newport Beach. Has a ton of near by shopping and eateries, close to freeway. The rooms where modern and the bed were good. AC worked, had breakfast and free parking. Price seemed reasonable compared to other near by location. Walls seemed thin, heard couple cars and motorcycles. Also can hear rolling suit cases and even a someone sneezing.
The rooms were just okay... It's simply a renovated Ramada Inn. The shower head is on the ceiling... With that said if your hair is straighten or you're African-American and not necessarily inclined to get ur hair wet this is not the hotel for u. It's impossible to shower in an overhead shower without getting hair wet while wearing those cheap transparent shower caps. The front desk clerk didn't seem to understand my issue... Perhaps because she wore long curly hair... I assume that's why she didn't empathize
The room was much nicer than what we would have expected for a Super 8: clean, spacious, quiet. Breakfast was great, including waffles, bagels, toast, cereal, pastries, oatmeal, and yogurt. Check in and check out was quick, though somebody does come up to inspect the room during checkout, so make sure you are completely ready to go.
Staying with my boyfriend, we wanted a cheap place close to the beach. For a motel, it was in good shape and was all we needed for our few nights. Rooms were tiny, but had everything we needed and were comfortable. Wood floors made it seem more modern, and the simplicity was nice. The bed was comfortable and it seemed nice and clean. Ten minute drive from Huntington Beach was easy and free parking is a plus! I am picky when it comes to showers, and the nozzle was low and I didn't have enough towels. After being at the beach, it was hard to rinse my hair out, but it did not effect my overall comfort level of my stay. Still an awesome cheap hotel.
The location was good and the room decor looked modern. The parking lot was large so it was easy to find a spot. There were a lot of food choices nearby. The beds were uncomfortable and squeaked every time you moved, the wood floors were really dirty - within 10 minutes of walking on the floor with white socks the bottoms were black. There were dead bugs in the corners and live bugs at night. The AC didn't work very well. The bedding sheets were rough and the blankets were paper thin. The shower trickled out water and the shower heads were really low - even for me and I'm 5'5.
