Location was great, near underground and bus stations, nice little shops, restaurants and cafes. The man at reception helped me carry my suitcase up to the 4th floor. English breakfast was good and plenty. I liked the view over the old buildings and roofs.
Room on 4th floor and no lift. Lucky I'm healthy. However, carrying suitcase back down took quite a while. Stairs very narrow. They had two sections - one with better rooms, the other side not as good. I was on the less attractive side. Not sure which picture I was shown when I booked. Bathroom: nowhere to hang towel or place toiletries e.g. no shelf, no hooks, no rails. Not enough tables for all the guests in breakfast room. People queuing on the stairs while waiting for a table. One man went back to his room, when he came back at 8:50 am he was told he was now too late and couldn't get any breakfast. However, he argued politely and they gave him his breakfast but reluctantly. I got a table shortly before the deadline and the staff started cleaning and moving chairs very loudly while I was still eating and clearing everything off my table that I couldn't physically hold onto. It was amusing at least. Ok for a short stay but if staying longer it may be worth paying extra to be more comfortable.
Well located. Convenient. Good price. Great breakfast
The property is located on a charming street, close to restaurants, shopping and night life. The facade is grand in appearance. Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. My full English breakfast (included), was served within two minutes of being seated. Wall tile in bathroom is very attractive. Reception desk is staffed around the clock.
The first room I was assigned was the size of a closet. The second was large enough to at least, move about for a few steps. The telephone was inoperable. Paint on doors is blistered. Woodwork is in dire need of repair. Also, wooden boards are nailed to walls. I guess it’s their version of wainscoting. Toilet took a full four minutes to refill after flushing ( once you jimmy the handle a few times). No facial tissues placed in rooms. No single use toiletries. Carpets a in stairs and corridors are worn, stained and dingy. Having stayed on 4th level it was a prolonged, arduous task getting to my room. I’m 65 and needed to pause several times and plan my outings wisely (my fault for not using my gym membership at home).. Small, wall mounted flatscreen (appropriate for size of room). Uncovered box spring for my single bed was probably as old as I am, and dingy. Mattress sunken on exposed side. Tiny sink. No hot water. Room temp at about 65 degrees F. Bring your Woolies!!
The location is excellent and the staff are welcoming
One has to take into account that the luggage needs to be raised to the third floor without an elevator
Very nice breakfasts - full English with cereals, juice etc. Nice quality, well cooked and friendly, polite wait staff.
We had a 1st floor last time - all fine. In the basement this time - very noisy! Sound of the tubes till midnight, then movement od rolling stock. Resumed at 5am
