Pros: Good location, good service
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The game drives were incredible. Living with the hippos was an experience , never to be missed. I would love to go back there again and again.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent except see below
Cons: We had the smallest rype of tent for two people and even had to move the chair and the table out in order to being able to open our suitcases. The personnel was very helpful with the move of the furniture but did not allow us to move to a bigger tent although the hotel was literally empty for three days. We had three rooms for which we paid the same price but one was bigger and the other one the same size as our was single occupancy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived this trip was pure gold. We received a free upgrade to a family tent as we were a mother and daughter couple but that was just the start, they couldn’t have done more to make our trip perfect. I’ve stayed in leading hotels around the world and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. Experienced in safari trips this scores 5* in everything from vehicle type to guide knowledge. Coming back next year!
Cons: NOTHING
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Second visit here. A really lovely place and a great location even if you didn't go on any of the free twice-daily safari drives. Nothing quite as relaxing as watching a herd of hippos chilling out in the river. Outside the lodge, the wide open and rolling Mara landscape is a wonderful place to be. The guides know it like the back of their hands and can see what's happening from miles away. The staff in the hotel are great - laid-back and attentive when required. Can't wait to return.
Cons: The one thing I'd like the management to add is somewhere to do some excercise - a mini indoor or outdoor gym - or both.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: friendly staff, decor, scenery
Cons: the shower water temperature, you have either hot water or cold...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our best family vacation so far. Our 7 y.o. son asked to extend our stay, never happened with him before. Breathtaking location. Fantastic safari experience. Can't find appropriate words for service - absolutely brilliant service from all staff members.
Cons: Long wait until next visit(((
6.7 Good
Pros: The Safari staff was very professional and kind. Tents sparkling clean and the person in charge super kind and efficient. Nice welcome!
Cons: I made a complain the first day and was ignored! The restaurant doesn’t give many choices. Considering the price I would expect more!
Mara Serena Safari Lodge - Maasai Mara - Pool
2
8.7 Excellent (53 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Mara Serena Safari Lodge stands high on a bush-cloaked hill with commanding views over one of Africas most dramatic wildlife arenas-the scene of the annual migration of over one million wildebeest.Styled to echo the circular motif of a traditional Maasai manyatta, our Masai Mara safari lodge blends international sophistication with raw African beauty, while featuring twin rows of individual rooms, each with its own view of the famous Mara River. The central bar and dining areas enjoy spectacular views, as does the rock-surround swimming pool. Each uniquely-presented room is accommodated in its own stand-alone modular unit, with uninterrupted views, private balcony and spacious seating area. Activities include two daily game drives in custom-built traditional safari vehicles, sundowners' in the bush, breakfast by the hippo pool, lunch in the wilderness, dinner in the bush, balloon safaris or relaxation and reinvigoration in the panoramic new Maisha Safari Spa and Gym.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff where really nice / professional and the breakfast was good.
Cons: The machines at the gym only works past 12 lunch time and steam room after 6 PM, They charge you 20 usa per person for a 5 minute drive from the airport and also there is no air con in the room just a fan. Also on booking.com they dont tell you that its 80 USA per day per person so on top of your hotel we payed 840 USA that wasnt expected, that's to the park but thats not the hotels fault . The hotel needs to be updated as it's old.
7.9 Good
Pros: All employees were very guestfriendly
Cons: No idea
9.0 Excellent
Pros: very near to the nature, very good and friendly service, very tasty meal,
Cons: the room could be a bit larger
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The views across the Maasai Mara, Mara Triangle are fantastic.
Cons: Our 3 night all inclusive stay for £1.800 for me and my partner was not value for money. I don't understand how they can justify such a high price entering the low season. The food was adequate but not to such a high standard, the puddings were mediocre and the free coffee at the coffee station was often not available. The night sfari at USD85.00 per person is a rip off and I would advice other guests not to do a night game drive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was brilliant, staff, food, location, drivers... saw the big 5 in our first 2 hours. The balloon trip!
Cons: Having to leave!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The views of the Mara River and the escarpment were amazing. Breakfast options good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great food clean rooms
Cons: Paying for basic game drives as an add on

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at this camp are absolutely amazing! They couldn’t do enough for us. This was the first time visiting the Masai Mara and we weren’t sure what to expect but the experience was just perfect. The tents are so much better than we expected and were very comfortable. The location on the river side was great for watching the crocodiles and hippos. Also, the food was always delicious and fresh - they really looked after me and my boyfriend who has a severe nut allergy - at every meal the restaurant manager took us around the buffet to let us know what he could eat. It’s the place we have ever stayed in terms of uniqueness and experience and we hope to return one day.

Pros: Location was right next to the airfield and inside the park so best use of time. Three game drives with excellent guide was the best part. Polite, experienced highly knowledgeable guide who was a brilliant spotter made the trip. Provision of picnic breakfasts enabling long time out on the game drives were a real advantage.
Cons: Food choice was limited to heavy dishes. Breakfasts were excellent. Overly attentive staff during dining.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel/camp provided all the request that I had for them prior arrival. No hidden charges applied. We traveled with my 8 years old girl and she totally had fun! Chief from kids club is amazing, lecture about the bones & skeleton guessing of the animals was great. Wifi is good just in case you have some emergency email to make. All the staff is super friendly, from reception, F&B, and Ruben - our tour guide and landrover driver! Fantastic place & people!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I highly underestimated the luxury camp experience. Fine dining at a luxury camp. Nah oh yes they do and they do it very well I might add!!
Cons: Beds squeak. That’s about it!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There is absolutely nothing negative to say about this hotel, they do an excellent job. Denis, he ran our game drives and i have to say he was AMAZING! The knowledge of the wild animals and the search for all the animals was absolutely amazing. They created so many memories that we vill not forget and we are eternally grateful!

Pros: Every staff member was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Probably the best part of our stay was the interaction we had with staff. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, access to different landscapes and animals, people, staff, FOOD!, in person wake up call with hot coffee / tea delivery, number of animal spottings, affordability
Cons: Everything was perfect. Look out (as stated in the description) for the $70pp, per day park fee is all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This has been the best experience I've had in my life, and I've traveled quite a lot. Beautiful place, excellent staff, the food was THE BEST. I spent my birthday there and they even sang happy birthday and gave me a cake with my name, we shared it with the rest of the guests. It was a beautiful and unforgettable experience. When I left I felt I was leaving my family behind, and I was traveling solo. Pauline, the manager is a sweetheart, Joab was a great driver. Their overall priority is to make you feel like a queen/king. I hope to come back and if I do I would definitely stay here again, great value for your money!!!! don't look any further!!!!
Cons: everything was perfect.

6.3 Good
Pros: Tents nice and big..Staff that was not management really sweet..Sorry they have such terrible managers.
Cons: Managers, Horrid food(buffets like school lunches) nothing like the website food. Guide that talked on phone loudly while we tried to enjoy looking at Lions and cheetas. Horrible communication of managers, broken safe in room..Hokey entertainment, stalked by staff .Worst Safari vehicles that spew exhaust and made us feel sick..An hour drive to most wildlife sightings..More like a cheap Carnival Cruise than a Safari camp...Left a night early at great expense rather than stay in this disaster of a business...
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The game drives were incredible. After just two drives I had seen all of the big five as well as cheetah. The rooms are clean, very large, and comfortable. The water was hot. The staff was accommodating and attentive.
Cons: One small bummer was that the power temporarily went out both nights I was there. This isn't completely unexpected given the location.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The restaurant staff were very pleasant. Food hit or miss, but plenty of it. Housekeeping was top notch. Tents are comfortable but are not aging well.
Cons: Game drives were scheduled around the airport transfers of other guests, The (45 year old) safari vehicle would need to remain close to the lodge day after day. My driver, Daniel, repeatedly lied to my face about why we could not travel to view the wildebeest migration, and did everything in his power to avoid it. He's a nice guy but, for God's sake, it's the reason I traveled to the Mara in the first place! I recommend a lodge with honest guides who care about safari drives and want to show you something special. It's simple, guys. Use a dedicated car to do airport transfers and provide real safari drives. Truly disappointing, a HUGE waste of money and time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the Management and staff at this resort Value their guests and at the end of our 4 nights, we were heartbroken to be leaving. Everyone from John, Junior, Jimmy, William, Elias, Evelyn, James, Bernard, Dominique and our guide Daniel were brilliant at taking care of us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect would highly recommend and definitely coming back!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: An amazing location, on a hillside looking out over the Mara. Staff were great, from the guards to the restaurant to the guides. The rooms are huge - truly a mini palace, beds are comfortable, food is good (they tried to be a bit too fancy a for a couple meals - they did better when they stuck to the basics. The guide I had, Willy, was determined to find me every single animal he could. Very dedicated and very informative. The only reason I marked the staff a bit low was some communication issues. There were a lot of free things thrown in (very nice) however, they weren't communicated in advance (i.e. at 7:30 you are going for a bush dinner) and I find surprises that seem to be required off-putting - I was there for quiet, and not to socialize with a bunch of other guests. To their credit they adapted to my preferences and I was able to have the quiet dinner I had wanted, and I was able to turn down the bush breakfast planned for the next day. I had also wanted to do their nature walk but they were short on staff. Instead of just telling me, I had to find out myself when I was ready to go. They did quickly solve the problem by giving me a nice guard who took me on the walk. He didn't know about the plants and birds, but I did learn a lot about life from the pov of a young Maasai. So...some communication issues that were quickly addressed.
Cons: The waterfall shower - while a cool concept - didn't work well enough to not make we long for a regular shower head. Some of the food could have been improved - the chinese wok pasta bar lunch was definitely the food low-point, but generally the food was good. I also encouraged them to do more to be eco-friendly. There are a lot of plastic water bottles and most of the power is off of two generators - they could easily install solar. It's a new lodge and I think the intention is there, just have a ways to go.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Staff were fantastic and we had the whole camp to ourselves due to the time of year. Very lucky! The game drives were amazing and our guide, Peter, was very knowledgeable. Food was lovely and plentiful. Thank you for a great stay!
Cons: Nothing :)

Pros: Game Chef Joseph's food Bush breakfasts
Cons: Showers not very hot because of poor weather
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The shower could be improved. The bedding fabric could be better.
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Fantastic location. Friendly staff. Cleanliness.
Cons: If you are not aware of the fact that you should not pay the park fee when you do not use the park facilities, they will not tell you and you will be double charged. One day during our stay we travelled to a nearby national park where we paid the park fee of 75$. Luckily driver told us to keep tickets and not to pay at Losokwan for the day. It took some discussion with staff before we were deducted the park fee for 5 persons for the day on which we did not use the conservation park. It is not fair on customers to pay double fee and host should inform guests about this.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: All the staff are fantastic! We felt so looked after and cared for. Our guide Daniel was lovely and really knowledgable and great to spend time with on safari - he really taught us a lot. It is an open camp and one night there were elephants eating outside our room! Would really recommend. We booked our safari all independently and was much more reasonable. Losokwan organised our flights into Masai North. There was a small miscommunication about a trip to the town which they should offer within the safari but we got that cleared up. Would definitely stay there again.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was was private and the staff was very friendly.
Cons: The stay was expensive.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location and the game drives - Lemek Conservancy (conservancy fees were included in the price) and Maasai Mara National Reserve (you will need to pay separate park entrance fees).
Cons: We stayed at different “luxury camps” during our visit to Kenya. This one was the worst. For $$$ there was hardly ever hot water (the guests had to request it...) with no pressure - in all other camps which were not that expensive there were solar heaters everywhere. The electricity was cut a couple of times at nights (we had to pack in the dark and could not charge our phones/camera). The staff would constantly switch off the generator, which cut the wifi in the common area while the guests were there (was it done for the sake of economy? Again, the camp was really pricy...). It turned out that the water and soft drinks which were offered by the staff (even when we did not ask for it) were not included in the full board accommodation. Nobody had explained that. Unfortunately, our overall impression and wonderful game drive experience were ruined because of the inconsistency between the price and very moderate camp conditions and disruptions:(

Pros: Breakfast is good. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
Cons: We booked 2 tents for 4 guests and provided all the 4 information at the first place. Such order has been confirmed by the hotel when booking, check-in and check-out. However the hotel ran out another quite amount of fee from my credit card after check-out without any prior information. The hotel explained that the room fee was charged by person only afterwards. Understand each hotel has their own policy, but at least the clarification and communication for the room fee should have been provided by the time check-in. Have to say it is such a disappointing experience.

Overview
Set in what is considered Kenyas prime wildlife area, Mara Leisure Camp is located along the Talek River at the confluence of the Masai Maras four wildlife viewing areas, on the Northern boundary of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. One of the most exciting spectacles in the world is the Great Migration, where two million wildebeest, zebras and other herbivores pass through the Masai Mara / Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya and Tanzania. This is a perilous journey for the animals, where they encounter many river crossings and the gauntlet of crocodiles in waiting. We promise a unique safari adventure, including daily safari drives with our experienced, local Masai guides as well as educational outings and visits to several community development projects within the Talek area. For the discerning palate, we have expert chefs who deliver mouth-watering, diverse cuisine. Why not enjoy these in the bush for that ultimate experience? As dusk rolls in, enjoy romantic evenings while you watch the sunset over the plains, or get cozy by the fireplace while taking a sundowner cocktail of your choice. At night listento the unique sounds of the African wilderness. Reservations.ke@marasa.net
