The team at Sofitel Moorea la Ora Beach Resort were very friendly and helpful. It was on the best beach in Moorea. The K restaurant was excellent with well trained attentive staff and great food. The Pure restaurant was also very good with friendly staff (but not as well trained). The water sports team was also very helpful and friendly. We went on their snorkeling trip to a nearby island and had a great time. My wife did not want to leave the sea. Overall we had a good time, and it could have been a great time with a stricter non-smoking policy and much-needed maintenance.
Sofitel Moorea la Ora Beach Resort non-smoking policy is non-existent/patchy apart from non-smoking rooms. Some guests smoked outside their Villa and that blew onto our deck in the wind. In the mornings as we walked down the long concrete path to breakfast we were frequently covered in cigarette smoke from one of the staff in his electric cart, and inconsiderate smokers smoking in front of us. In Pure bar and restaurant, guests were able to smoke outside with smoke blowing inside. This is not a hotel for non-smokers. The Resort has seen better times. A lot of maintenance is required to bring it up to its former glory. Thatch had worn out in many Villa roofs and they were being made watertight with plastic sheets (not a good tropical look). Some of the Villas timber had rotten, and had not been replaced. The concrete paths needed holes repaired. Our Villa had been repainted but not well. The surface was not sanded properly before painting, and the painter had painted over the timber joinery. in places. Ceiling matting was falling off in places. Some tiles in the swimming pool had fallen off, and vegetation was growing out of the overflow drains. Lack of maintenance meant that the Resort was no longer of 4 or 5 star quality. As a result of these deficiencies it was overpriced. Once these problems are attended to this will be an excellent resort.
Service was slow. Server seated us and we went to get food and when we returned someone else was sitting at our table. We left a envelope but the staff was unable to locate it. I asked if they checked the trash but seemed unwilling or did not understand my request.
They are on island time. Have to be patient. Really patient. Really really need patience
Loved our room and the snorkeling right outside our deck. Also loved the infinity pool.
A/C must be turned way down or off at night as we woke up sweating both nights and our room was very warm when we got up in the morning.
Good location, nice bungalows, great views!
Fabulous snorkeling! Beautiful scenery! Loved our garden bungalow, we still had a partial view of the beach.
Their is a current in the lagoon, sometimes quite strong and broken pieces of coral to walk over entering the water; water shoes are highly reccommended.
