10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast and service from the owners and the staff. Everyone was friendly and made sure that we had a comfortable stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Zanziblue for 3 nights and we loved it. Very nice and clean accommodation, beautiful beach, perfect seaview, nice staff and excellent food. They also have some nice beach bikes and canoes that you can rent and they can arrange some nice activities. Wish we stayed here longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing. The hosts were incredibly nice and helpful to us. Tom and Chris helped us with everything we needed. The place is very nice, best retreat for holidays. I would definitely come back.
Cons: It might be a little bit far from everything, but I guess that is common in Zanzibar.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole concept was great, safari in comfort right on the beach. Left alone but plenty of help when required. All fantastic. Staff wonderful and friendly
Cons: Either side of the property the beaches suffer a little from litter washed up by the tide. This is more of a disappointing observation than a black mark against Zanziblue. The beech in front of the property and in front of the neighbouring properties is cleaned daily.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely fantastic! A very dedicated and passionate team welcomed us for our honey moon, making to pay every attention to detail and to even prepare a special dinner for us with sea view! The villas are just perfect, we congratulate ourselves to have chosen the hotel!
Cons: To be a bit picky, there was no shampoo in the villa and I think it is a minor improvement they could implement !
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The peace and quiet. its on the quite part of town and not much happens here. Staff are great they go above and beyond to accommodate for u.
Cons: Its pretty far from the main area of the town. No shops around and no restaurant on site however the menu and the food served in the rooms is great.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice and helpfull staff Good food Nice place Great pool
Cons: Pillow was not fine and bed a bit to hard A bit quite
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best hotel ever! Amazing staff, very caring and beautiful location. We will definitely come back again. Thank you to all the staff and a special thanks to Kandy and Tom
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: The attentiveness of the staff. Very responsive and with very good attitude. Kandy and Aisha and team did a wonderful job! All personnel is well trained Managers helpful in coordinating activities and transport. Cleanliness of the Villa. Cars used for transport were in pretty good shape and driver takes good care of you Good value in foods and beverages. Very nice beach location
Cons: I was unpleasantly surprised that there was no way of being in the beach. I though I could relax in front of the ocean with proper shade and I had to stay in the pool area (with very limited ocean view). This is a major drawback considering how nice the beach is and how other properties nearby have chars/beds on the beach with proper shade. Very frustrating! The property is also starting to be worn out and needs to be updated. The chairs/beds in the pool and terrace areas are not in very good shape. It gets extremely windy in the afternoon and there is no place to hide. The living room which would be a natural option is not adequately furnished (it has 1 worn out of chair/sofa for three people) and you have to use the chairs from the dining (outside dining as there is no inside dining) that are not comfortable either. The attic room is open which makes it subject to the weather. Wind makes it impossible to be in there during the afternoon. Need more variety in the menu especially as it relates to fish. For the four nights we spent there the “catch of the day” was the same (tuna)

Featured amenities include a computer station, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Simply wonderful it is worth every Euro spent
Cons: I could not say anything in particular
7.0 Good
Pros: The rooms were great, the staff was very nice and eager to help, the food was very good
Cons: The location isn't very good, basically there is not much to do outside of the hotel. Would be nice to have a more wider choice of activities. Don't recommend this location for more than three nights
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and attentive staff, delicious food, amazing beach
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Facilities are great, everything is very well maintained Food was amazing (we had half board) Staff is super friendly and welcoming Lot of perks (e.g. free library, sport equipment ecc.) Very relaxing and pampering Offer of several activities to do around the area
Cons: Sometimes the internet connection was not working super well
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Zanzibar Queen was a really magical spot for three nights. It had a certain eclectic chic to it and the flowers/landscaping were absolutely beautiful! The hotel really creates a sort of Club Med type vibe by offering free yoga classes, free meditation classes, activities in the evening such as a Maasai show and acrobatics etc. The hotel also has a great and known dive centre in it (Scuba Fish) but we went diving with Dive Point who arranged pick ups for us every day. We had a half board and so this included breakfast and dinner (highly recommend going for this). We had lunch at some of the beach restaurants along the way.
Cons: My only feedback is on their dinner options, I really wish they offered more simple dishes - for example the best evening was when they offered grilled sea food which was divine!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff of the hotel from reception to restaurant and housekeeping was extremely friendly and helpful, a wonderful level of service. On top, the hotel is located close to Mnembe island (best snorkelling spot of Zanzibar) and benefit from a beautiful scenery. Would recommend to anyone looking for a stay in Zanzibar.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, extremely friendly staff, tons of optional activities, great food - recommendable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole stay was perfect and above expectations. I would like to stress in particular how much all the staff cares about delivering the best service possible to the guests. This really enhances the quality of the stay, beyond the perfect beach, swimming pool and food. We (2 friends) were there for 1 whole week and managed to have the most relaxing holiday, just like we wanted, while keeping active with free yoga classes on the premises, meditation, volley gear, pétanque, badminton, massages. We could also organise day trips directly with the hotel which was quite convenient (100% recommend the spice farm!). Deep tissue massage really kicked off our holiday and was more than welcome to re-energize after the flights. The food was amazing every night and the portion are (too) big! Special thanks to Marta, Justin, Sangeti and Stephano - you were the cherry on the cake for this magical week off, with your energy, your amazing personalities and personal stories, and your dedication to helping guests enjoy their stay. I sincerely will not hesitate to come back if life takes me to Zanzibar again. Asante sana and I wish you the best!
Cons: The only thing I would not recommend is the manicure, for the nail polishing part (it’s hard to maintain satisfactory nail polish in this climate to begin with) but the hand massage that goes with it was good, perhaps just a hand treatment would be preferable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant and food are excellent. Majority of Staff (especially Abdoul in restaurant and Given at reception ) are nice. The hotel arrange every day some free activities.
Cons: 1- The ocean view is kind of hidden by trees. So the ocean view is not great and not as you expect. 2- Billing: we just needed to say our room number without showing our key or sign any recipt for any expenses like drinks while we were there. It sounds comfortable but the last day when you recieve the bill it's higher than what you expected and doesn't have the details of what have you consumed. Just a cost per day but who knows what they have charged you!!!! We are sure of mistake as we kept note of every expense we had so we are sure of the mistake. Maybe somebody had said a wrong room number or the waiter heard it wrongly or ... . still waiting for hotel to clarify that although we have paid extra. Still no response from hotel which is very DISAPPOINTING. So be careful!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very kind staff. They are always ready to help and make your stay a big pleasure. The hotel is in typical African style and you can feel the atmosphere of Africa transferred in a modern way. Clean rooms with large bed. Magnificent view from the room to the garden full of tropical plants and the ocean in background. World class cuisine with a lot of choices from sea food, meet and vegetarian. Huge clean beach and coral reef in front of the hotel.
Cons: Nothing to say here.
Chumbe Island Coral Park - Zanzibar - Building
3
9.4 Excellent (135 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Chumbe Island Coral Park in Chumbe Island, you'll be 10.4 mi (16.7 km) from Christ Church Cathedral. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you consider Chumbe island expensive - do not hesitate it is WORTH, WORTH and Again Worth the money - I have been to different alone island and we with my wife were amazed of the staff, people and excellent location, the night snorkeling, the eco facilities, whole education project and idea is great. I think Chumbe is an island of the dreams and no matter we stayed 1 night I am sure we will be back there again - it was wonderful.
Cons: Everything was great.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great arrival from the sea, lovely, bungalows fascinating ... and maybe the best; the night listening to the wind and the ocean - wow! The reef was good, a lot of fish and corals, though much of the corals bleached. Friendly and helpful manager.
Cons: Less than an hour snorkling on the reef is too short, should have more time drifting along more of the reef ... i.e. two boats should open for flexibility ... and the guides (?) didn't add much to the experience. 1000 USD for one night (two cabins) is too expensive - and it is a shame that there was not enough food (buffet) for all for dinner! Taking the price into consideration, a beer/glass of wine could be included for dinner.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nature and activities
Cons: Food
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is on a nature preserve and is spectacular all around, from the expertise of the staff in giving nature walks and snorkeling, to the outstanding cuisine which emphasizes local and sustainable harvests, to the eco lodges that are very comfortable and yet self sustaining with solar and water catchments.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Ambience staff welcoming . Relaxed .
Cons: Some lack of information about when you could snorkel
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience of being isolated in an island. Snorkeling in one of the most amazing protected coral reefs is included in the price of the room EVERY DAY. With a few small improvements this hotel will be in Condé Nast Traveller as one of the hottest in the world. The staff is fantastic.
Cons: It’s hard to say something, because the experience is unique. But the mattress could be definitely better. I think a hotel should always remember that is a place to relax and the mattress should be top quality.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Very good food and fantastic staff.... Good snorkeling
Cons: Toilets.... No mosquito repellent..... Other hotels provide repellents... ... Price for single travellers should be only 30%more not 100%...... The accommodation does not rectify that high price... E 356,- for one night is far too high. I got severe Malaria in Chumbe and had to sta, one week in Intensive care.......
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All. The island, the staff, the idea, the food.
Cons: I didn't know in advance that we would have to sign a risk statement before leave Zanzibar to Chumbe. In my opinion this must be indicated during the reservation process. Not that there were risks or hazards in the premises but I didn't expect it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: What a spectacular location. Remember, travel here because you want to see the wildlife. Spend as much time in the ocean as possible. If you are a traveler who prefers to stay indoors, or wants to stay in extravagant accommodations, note that this location is not designed for that purpose, but for people who want to be closer to nature and to learn about the unique ecosystem. If you come expecting to be pampered, you won't necessarily be disappointed, but again the purpose of the resort is education and conservation. The complimentary lemongrass anti-mosquito cream is also amazing and deserves its own special shout-out.
Cons: For a small island, staff were at times a bit hard to find. One evening, my bungalow also had a small technical problem which left me temporarily without electricity, but this was quickly fixed. Overall, excellent experience.
Zanzi Resort - Zanzibar - Building

10.0 Excellent
Pros: A lot of privacy for customers.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The resort is amazing and privacy is great
Cons: Far from everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Your free breakfast comes anywhere you want it to be served terrace beach pool room amazing
Cons: The network goes up and down
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We pretty much liked everything about this place. The room was spacious and the privet pool is such a treat. Above all I think the service and understanding of details and guest privacy is phenomenal here. And the food here is really much better than anything you'll find on the Island.
Cons: Yes, the location on this side of the island does not come with the most amazing beach, as the west is a little more rocky, but the hotel makes up for it with its magical immersion into the jungle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing stay at Zanzi Resort. The resort was beautiful. The facilities were great and the staff were all very polite, helpful and made our stay very comfortable.
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: No beach at all The behavior of the manager when we arrived Pool was not clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: have been to a lot of places worldwide but this place was really different, they take care of every tinny details, privacy is an art they are good about, for people who are relaxing with their beloved ones and honey mooners this is an ideal place, I stayed 5 days in Ocean access villa with private pool and almost private beach, I never dream of such wonderful atmosphere, you feel like this resort was designed by an artist not by an architect, from furniture to decoration to landscape, every corner in the resort was a piece of nice African art, food quality and staff service quality are only to be described as amazing, Staff is available whenever you need them without invoking your privacy, I have travelled to a lot of luxury hotels and resorts worldwide, I am not exaggerating if I said this the best one I have been to, I will certainly plan to visit again for longer period Thanks for manager Mr./ kasper, to chief Mohamed, to Khamis and other staff members for all the care and enthusiasm showed during my stay.
Cons: Really nothing was wrong
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Food, staff and service were amazing! :)
Cons: They need to have a proper Gym, there was no workout machines or a treadmill!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All the people were amazing, always friendly and supportive. And the villas are lovely. A whole house including a small pool for your own. Privacy at its best.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was some of the best food I have eaten any where. Staff were amazing, so genuine and friendly. Location was good, on a quiet side of the island. The pier was amazing! So much wow factor! Over all, the facilities and the tranquility was superb.
Cons: Bed was average Wifi poor
Meliá Zanzibar - Zanzibar - Building
5
9.2 Excellent (801 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Melia Zanzibar in Kiwengwa, you'll be on the beach, within a 5-minute drive of Mapenzi Beach and Kiwengwa Beach. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The Melia Zanzibar property is beautiful! The landscaping and greenery is wonderful. The beach, although a 5 minute buggy ride away, is very unique - at low tide the sand is really fine, nothing we had seen before. The staff are incredibly friendly, warm and ready to engage with you in your quest to learn more about the island. The scuba team at the PADI center were really professional and was truly a highlight of the trip. The dives were great - even ending our trip with dolphin sighting! The f&b manager personally made sure we were happy with the service at every meal after raising a concern on day one. The rooms are sprayed and mosquito nets arranged every night at turn-down service.
Cons: The rooms would be perfect if updated slightly. Additionally, the quality and variety of food did not match that of a 5 star hotel, particularly at Gabi beach and the pool restaurants.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: First of all the area in the resort is spectacular, a jungle dream just gorgeous with so many trees and greenery it’s so calming to just walk around. The staff are very friendly but people from Zanzibar are generally extremely nice. They have a good selection of food and so many places to relax, if you want to relax this is the place for you! If you want to escape your city life and busy work schedule, this is the place for you! I recommend staying in either the beach bungalow or the romantic pavilion because the beach view is out of this world!!!
Cons: I can’t honestly say there was one thing I didn’t like but there were a few minor problems which a five star hotel shouldn’t have. Once we received a bottle of water and the water smelt bad, but it was one water bottle out of so many and the others were fine, we informed the reception so hopefully they check the waters. The first day housekeeping, didn’t refill our coffee and put extra toilet rolls so we had to ask for it but it seemed that housekeeping had ran out while making rounds but they should still make sure to bring some later, we had to call for it ourselves. When they brought it, it was amazing they got us a lot so they made up for it. Sometimes walking back at night there wasn’t enough light, I suggest that the property adds more solar light. If you are looking for a place with a good beach, gabi beach which is where Melia is, is not the best beach to swim because even in high tide there are stones. However still nice and you can chill by the beach during low tide. If you want to swim maybe other areas of the island would be better like a little north. Overall i can’t say it was bad because these minor points you forget when you see the beauty of the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, Excellent service, The executive staff is amazing and always accessible to hotel guests, Delicious and varied food, The place is maintained to a high standard
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The Melia Zanzibar property is beautiful. The landscape and greenery are amazing. The beach, although a 10-15 minute walk away (regular buggies are available), is quite unique - at low tide the sand is muddy and fine, nothing we had seen before. Staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and happy to engage with you in your quest to learn more about the island. The PADI center at the hotel was the highlight of our trip, the team there is incredibly professional and the dives were wonderful - even ended with dolphin sightings! Housekeeping comes in every night to spray your room and arrange the mosquito net at turn-down service.
Cons: The rooms could use a little more updating given the price point. The quality and variety of food does not match a 5 star hotel, particularly at Gabi beach and the pool restaurant.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great peaceful atmosphere for relaxation, very helpful staff, delicious restaurants. many things to do.
Cons: Nothing in particular. However, they could have sealed the bungalow better so the insects does not come inside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is amazing. People working over there are so polite, such a lovely place.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff. The property grounds. The beach/pool. The food. The view. The spa and gym. Everything was wonderful and so lovely.
Cons: I expected the room to be cleaner in detail (bathroom). The “all inclusive” does not include ‘everything’ (a restaurant on the property is not included and not all items on every menu is included) so therefore it isn’t really all inclusive but still makes sense if you plan on being there all day.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great private beach!! Seafront bungalows are amazing Good cocktails(although a bit too small) Beautiful surroundings and gardens Great pool
Cons: We got a big discount when we booked through booking.com. I would not pay the normal rate for this hotel. All inclusive drink options are adequate, but the cocktails take so long to arrive when you order them and they are so small (think tiny 250/300ml glasses, single shot cocktails) Standard all inclusive only included dinner at the buffet, which was decent on some nights and poor on others. You can also just do tapas on the yeti, but the tapas menu doesn’t change at all...
7.5 Good
Pros: Food was perfect. Friendly waiters.
Cons: The room needs renovation, housekeeping poor, cleanlines as well.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Its Spanish hotel and they provide Paella Spanish rice food in the dinner buffet which is good, and the room is beautiful with very big bathroom. The Hotel environment is very beautiful and all is good.
Cons: What disappointed me was they did not have professional tennis player partner and have sent me a guy who does not know to play at all lol. The room smells a little bit humid...

Nestled on the beach, this Kiwengwa hotel is within 1 mi (2 km) of Kiwengwa Pongwe Forest and Mapenzi Beach. Kiwengwa Beach is 2.4 mi (3.9 km) away.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Simply nothing
Cons: Not clean. Valeur for money. Location. Very bad beach so that you can't even swim
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where should I start... First of all...we booked our stay over a holiday agency, but booked for our parents from Kenya seperate flights and the hotel with booking.com. The food was amazing, the chef is absolutely great. The staff were like family. Just to name a few but so great people: Moses at the pool bar does the best drinks, one of the best bartender I´ve ever met. When you want to book a trip, ask for Hassan. He is the best and brings you to the best guides and tours for a reasonable price. Constantine was the best when you want someone take care of your child and their special belongings...she was just great to our daughter! To be honest, I miss that holiday...it was one of our best. When you consider Zansibar, you have to consider Neptune Pwani...that´s a must!
Cons: some towels need to be exchanged.... and...speed of beach drink delivery needs to be improved but hey...still a great place!
7.5 Good
Cons: İ didn’t like the transport. İt must be including the price. Because i paid 150$. Also we paid one $ for person per day.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The coconut stand

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Pongwe Beach Hotel in Pongwe, you'll be on the beach, within a 15-minute drive of Kiwengwa Beach and Kiwengwa Pongwe Forest. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, laundry facilities, and a library. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location in very nice beach, tropical setting but quiet. Restaurant and bar well presented. Very efficient and friendly staff- always helpful and go the extra yard. Big rooms
Cons: Didn’t have air-conditioning but had over-head fan and other fans which is fine overnight.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: What a place! We stayed here for a couple of nights to finish off our honeymoon tour, and we were so glad we picked it. The location is stunning- the beach is basically private and is a little paradise, free of beach boys unlike the north beaches. The tidal shift is large, which means you can walk out really far in the shallow water and enjoy the views/look for crabs! Drinks including fresh coconuts served to your lounger if desired. The room was lovely - very clean and full with lovely little touches to welcome us. Decent shower, could have been a little more powerful but that's being picky, and a very comfortable bed. The food was delicious- lots of choice for breakfast and good coffee, tasty lunch options, and the three course dinners were fantastic. Delicious fresh fruit, pastries and coffee is also served every day around 3pm. We also had a dinner on the beach one night which felt really special, although we struggled to finish the sea food platter as it was enormous! All the staff were so kind and welcoming too, they really allowed us to make the most of our short time there. Overall would thoroughly recommend.
Cons: Nothing of note.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location: Beach beach in Zanzibar we saw and you really felt like it was private to the resort. Staff: were incredibly helpful. Coming from a non-tipping country, the tipping at the end of the trip process kept things simpler. Facilities: grounds, restaurant and pool were beautiful. Particularly liked the inclusion of a library and games to play. Food: was expensive but good.
Cons: Room: We booked the private pool bungalow with ocean views thinking it would be a lot more private then what it was given the price. Our bungalow shared an adjoining wall with other another bungalow and windows have no glass (mesh). It also was close to the next resort. So all sorts of sounds were making there way into our room at night. All the private pool bungalows have the public resort pool In between them and the beach views and it’s all open so there isn’t really anything private about it. If I had my time again I would book the other beach front bungalows that were less expensive without the private pool.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel. Potentially, the best place I have ever stayed and I travel often. The welcome from all the staff was wonderful and continued throughout the stay, from the waitresses taking drinks and food orders at the pool and beach, to the dinner waiters and bar staff. Shout out to the guys who carried our suitcases on their shoulders across the beach to our room as well. We stayed in both a garden view and beach front bungalow and both were incredible, great comfortable beds, and stunning views of the beach. The infinity pool was incredible and the beach was idyllic. The food was very good, and breakfast included had both a buffet and an a la carte menu. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, it is in a more secluded quiet part of pongwe but you can organise excursions and taxis either yourself or through the hotel, there are also boat tours, but it was tranquil and paradise and I cannot wait to go back. The room also came with beach bags, towels and large rim hats, as well as robes. WiFi was good, there are also printing facilities, a computer and a library in reception. There was also fresh fruit free every afternoon, including coconuts, and free coffee and tea facilities in the restaurant all day.
Cons: This was a perfect place to stay, if I was nitpicking the only thing I missed in the room was a hairdryer, but not at all an issue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The boutique style and privacy of this resort is a must for couples and families. Being a couple of male friends it provided a great chance to relax and unwind with a good book, burger and beer. Well appointed villas and a fabulous balance of staff to guest ratio
Cons: Second last day got extremely ill and lost a day an a half. Did not inform hotel until i was up and about.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is amazing, the most beautiful beach I have ever seen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a phenomenal stay at Pongwe. The location and private beach is amazing, the food is incredible and the staff are world class. Absolutely no complaints and would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Zanzibar.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A fabulous boutique hotel with outstanding staff, good food and a stunning setting. At high tide it is impossible to walk far but unlike other nearby hotels there is at least a beach to get on and swimming is perfect. At low tide we were able to walk out to coral outcrops in the shallows which were like looking into an aquarium. There are no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms but early tea was delivered for us every morning and was available from the bar whenever we asked. We loved every moment and leaving at the end of our stay was not easy. Make sure to take advantage of supper on the beach, perfect!
Cons: Hard to find much not to like but maybe the pillows could be better! Paddle boards did not exist but it was the very end of the season so they had maybe been removed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, location, staff, the beach, service
Cons: During hot summers you may want air conditioner. They don’t have. We were the in July and it was perfect temperate.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are all superstars, the beach is quiet which we loved. The management is very kind to extend our stay without charging us because checkout time is 10:30am and our flight is at night. My husband fell ill because of Malaria tablets and he can’t get out of the bed, they allowed us to stay until late afternoon without charging us. Really appreciate that!

Pros: Hotel and pool are really cool.
Cons: The beach next to it is not that good, you need to drive to go somewhere else. Not a big restaurant menu and there are no other options to eat around.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, clean, friendly staff, good facilities, lovely food!
Cons: - Constant pestering for signatures on bar receipts etc. Became really annoying. I want a drink and then relax. I don’t want to get out a pool or wake up to sign the 100th bit of paper during the week. - Paying final bill was chaos due to so many receipts during the week. - No pre warning of 5% card fee on paying very large bill. Absolute rip off of a fee. No option to do a bank transfer. - Fishing trip excursion was $25 per head for 10 people. No one touched a fishing rod. The snorkelling guide running the trip didn’t have a clue how to fish. Refused refund full or partial.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We married at the villa Kiva and it was more than perfect. The whole crew is so nice. We will never forget our stay.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The scenery of the hotel was very good. Staff was really nice
Cons: I didn’t like the fact that there was no internet for one week. The hotel transfers and excursions were overpriced. The dinner food options were really poor as I already paid inclusive of this. I didn’t enjoy most of the meals taste wise and portion wise. The beach was not nice due to low tides and high tides situation. Prior visit I didn’t receive any email of general information about the island from the hotel which would be a bonus it it was there.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a lovely little getaway spot from other main areas teeming with tourists. Villa kiva feels like you are a world away from everyone else and is wasn’t over crowded which we loved! It has the special boutique feeling (from the aroma, rooms, little library and traditional board games) with all the amenities you need while feeling like you have the place all to yourself. The room was lovely and the food was really good!! The staff are so lovely and inviting and they add so much to the experience. I would choose villa kiva over a big resort any day. A gorgeous place to have spent my holiday.
Cons: The only thing that I did not enjoy (which is entirely out of the hotel’s hands) was the beach boys ready and waiting to catch anyone who steps foot on the beach beyond the hotel to sell tours or products. If you are wanting to give them business, be sure to stop and have a chat I’m sure they will be able to help you, but it can be frustrating when you are simply wanting to walk along the beach.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything super Clean, nicely designed, very good breakfast! - the best i ever had in Zanzibar. Lovely Details such as fresh flowers in room everything day, nice handcrafted soap, painkillers in the room. Standard is above the price category
Cons: Everything was very good. Well the beach was not the best but i found it ok
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect specially the friendly staff , the beach , the pool the location
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were phenomenal
Cons: Room was quite small (twin room n.24) and quite dark.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Great service, clean smashing location. We weren’t leaving until 4pm to the airport and as no one was checking into our room they let us stay until 4!! Get sea view room , worth the extra. Tip: ask for one of the sea view rooms further from the reception as they’ve the best view.
Cons: Nothing!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Just about everything. Can't beat the location.
Cons: Noisy and not efficient AC unit in one of the two rooms. Guests that do not at least try the "outside' world.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good hotel, near the beach, food is good and owner is nice
Cons: Road to the hotel is not good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place right on the beach and excellent for children. Very safe beach
Cons: Nothing really, we found the restaurant prices higher than in the village so walked to the village to eat most days. Beer a lot cheaper in the village
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really like the location. Simba Beach is really located on the beach. :) The sea is reachable in few steps. The owners and staff are very nice and helpful people. I highly recommend this accommodation.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This wasn't a large tourism industry lodge processing sunbathers. This is a quaint place with character. I loved our simple accommodation facing the beach. You step out of your room and feel the sand between your toes. You hear the sounds of the waves and the wind. Face the sun. Beach furniture was locally made. The beach shower tied to a tree - brilliant! And the resort managers, Chantal & Marco, and their little family, and the staff, were all wonderful!
Cons: They want to organize all the taxi rides and excursions, with the guests paying the excursions through Simba lodge, however, I think that is because the differential between what they charge the tourist and what they pay the local drivers and guides for the service generates a handsome profit. However, for some observant visitors, that does not go unnoticed, and sometimes you feel a bit ripped off.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and nice room right on the beach. Friendly and helpful staff. You can watch amazing sunrise right out of the window. Awesome breakfast, big portions and tasty food in the restaurant- you eat right on the beach. Lovely dogs ) No strangers on the beach, no one disturbs you.
Cons: You can hear what’s going on in adjacent rooms. Sometimes lights go out. A bit pricey for Zanzibar - we stayed in other hotels like this much cheaper in Nungwi. But overall we liked the place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great setting in the beach. Restaurant on site serves good food. Lovely room which is very quiet and dark at night. Relaxed, friendly staff providing good customer service.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owner, she help with all, what we need.
Cons: Little bit lazy staff, but its normal in Afrika. :-) still keep smiling and very kind.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: great location - staff, friendly and helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location directly on the beach is breathtaking. The room & bathroom were absolutely lovely. We felt so relaxed at this beautiful place. Chantal and Pablo were great hosts and very helpful. The included breakfast buffet was plenty and the selection was good. The Italian flair added up perfectly to this great location. I would definitely come back to this place if I get the chance to travel to Zanzibar again.
Cons: There honestly wasn't anything not to like during our stay!

Pros: The Villa, the dive center, the staff are amazing from all aspects. The whole hotel is great :)
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Great beach.
Cons: Although staff are friendly some of them are not problem solving oriented. The Hakuna Matata mentality, although an interesting concept, might pose a problem if you need a quick assistance or somebody who can really help you solve your problem. We had to wait more than one hour to get our room keys and despite our patience some of the staff were not friendly and understanding when we said the waiting time was too much. Also, if you like good food, I would suggest you to book a room at Baraza Resort, owned by the same family who owns Breezes, we were not amazed by the food and wine options offered at Breezes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food, dive center, staff, bathrooms, bed... management accessibility..
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Space,food and paradise feeling
Cons: Water sports guy Pep, seemed unwilling to properly schedule the kite surfing lessons we had booked...
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The food was of an excellent quality. the hotel is beautiful and the staff were very helpful. on the day we left the hotel, we checked out at 4:45 AM and they have packed our breakfast for us for take away. The service genuinely could not have been any better. I will definitely go back to this hotel.
Cons: The breakfast was good, but could use a little more variety.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the décor of the resort which was superb. The staff were welcoming and professional, as well as keen to ensure that I enjoyed my stay. I also really liked the food which was delicious with a varied menu. The facilities were perfect as expected and I enjoyed relaxing at the clean white sand beach.
Cons: N/A
8.3 Excellent
Pros: + Beach area is nice, but some seaweed at low tide + Food was good, we had breakfast and dinner included; good cocktails, but we had to pay for all drinks at dinner + Nice facilities, good water sports center (reef walk organized by the hotel was amazing, highly recommend it!) + Very friendly and helpful staff; they organized a trip to Jozani Forest for us (very close and easy to visit) and also proactively approached us about organizing the transfer for our departure
Cons: - The resort and especially the rooms need a little refurbishment, as they look a bit old; felt a bit overpriced for how the rooms look - No mosquito nets at the doors. When we arrived our room and bathroom were full of mosquitoes and we had to spend at least 30 min killing them. Also because of lack of mosquito net, a lizard came into our room in the evening and although the hotel provided prompt support, the experience of evacuating it was not the most pleasant one. - Bar area a bit quiet and deserted in the evening, maybe because it's more of a family resort
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Set in a beautifully tended tropical garden on the edge of a picture-book beach, Breezes is definitely a place to pamper yourself. There's a wide variety of food and entertainment options available for any traveller. We stayed in four hotels in Zanzibar, and Breezes had the best and biggest pool. The food was a real treat!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is between 40 minutes to an hour from the international airport. You do have to arrange for a driver to pick you up and drive you to the resort. The fee should be $35 but most drivers will charge you $50 (which is a reap off I would say). I recommend the driver Asied +255655846082, he doesnt over charge tourist. And he is well known if you type driver in Zanzibar in google. We stayed two nights and three days at the resort and it was very relaxing. It was a half board meaning breakfast and dinner is included with the amount paid for the stay. From the time we arrived we were greeted with a refreshment and the hotel manager oriented us with the resorts facilities. We were lucky to be upgraded to Royal Palm cottage. The name Breezes really reflects the resort as the sea breeze is consistent and it was very relaxing lounging at the beach just watching the low tide to high tide. The food at the hotel is delicious. We had the chance to experience the gala night and the african night buffet. We were contented with the serving and the taste. We also tried the lunch in the grilled restaurant and the beef was well marinated and it was just the perfect lunch facing the beach waves, for a couple, it was quite romantic. The bed is made by the time you reach your room. It is also sprayed with anti mosquito but dont forget to bring your anti mosquito spray and always apply it as the mosquito bite in this country is quite itchy. I have also tried the spa and had whole body deep tissue massage. It was very relaxing and worth the money. Shout out to Lucas who always visits our table whenever we dine and make sure that we are satisfied with the food.
Cons: Nothing to do with the resort. Basically the non proper disposal of garbage in the whole zanzibar. The beach was full of dead algae and garbage which would disgust you to swim in the beach.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super friendly
Cons: Bugs ! And mosquitos

10.0 Excellent
Pros: the atmosphere was great. the service impecable. food delicious. no insects such as mosquitos or others.
Cons: many plastic bags + plastic products in the water, not in front of the hotel, but very close. the coral reef is almost completely destroyed.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Big room with a nice view.
Cons: There was not hot water when we tried to have a shower.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was perfect. It is not another all incluse resort with dozens of rooms. Here the staff kmows your name. Everyone was very kind and professional. Everything is quiet. The beach is amazing (and yes, you have the low tide effect on this side of the Island). The hotel can arrange all type of excursions. The food is great! In a word, Zanzibar House is just perfect. It is not a fancy and artificial hotel; it is a hotel that cares about you.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice owners, really friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, nice balconies with the room, the overall relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful building in a beautiful landscape.
Cons: The airconditioning in other rooms cause annoying humming sounds in the rest of the building. After complaining about this, measures were taken.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Tranquility and totally delicious food, Italian family hospitality, serene beach, balmy Indian ocean; i booked Zanzibar House as a treat for myself and my 2 teenagers to end our 16 day East African overland trip . It was without doubt the high point of our African adventure.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I spent about 10 days in Zanzibar, most of them in the north at Zanzibar House, and I am glad I did. It’s a wonderful place to rest and enjoy the magnificent beach. It is also close to Mnemba island, a good place for snorkeling and diving. The food was amazing. The staff was very caring.
Cons: The only problem was that shower water sometimes had little flux and sometimes had no hot water.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean and staffs
Cons: NA
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building and its location was exquisite, we had the whole beach to our yourselves most of the time, the 4 course dinner menu was carefully thought through and executed and the staff team were courteous and efficient. We can't wait to go back!
Cons: There was an issue with the shower on one occasion but this this was quickly resolved.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food, especially the 4 course Italien dinner, was extraordinary good. Don’t miss it!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, lovely family run place with great Italian food Really helpful staff and amazing beach - really recommend this place to chill out in for a few days
Cons: The friendly room is comfortably but the difference with the ocean view rooms is quite big, and this isn't reflected in the price difference between the rooms. For an extra $15 a night the ocean view rooms are so much nicer!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The resort is beautiful with a very nice beach. Two big pools and a nice Jacuzzi bar are the best to enjoy this amazing hotel. Very nice food, especially from the sea food restaurant at the beach. Lovely staff, especially at the restaurants. Rooms are spacious and absolutely clean. Reliable WiFi also.
Cons: The hotel is really biased towards European people, especially Italian and French. All the activities are made in French and most of the entertainers speak either Italian or French. They very much struggle with English, which is not very inclusive. Besides, food and drinks' prices are not the most affordable, especially when it is not very easy to find alternative restaurants and bars, but it is not a big deal. I really recommend the hotel to use more English in the activities and make all the guests (not only French or Italians) feel included.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff, the beach, the view
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Almost everything: the staff, the beach, the view Thank you for making my birthday a special memory. Special thanks to Ramzi for all the effort you made.

Cons: No room service available
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment you arrive you sense the expanse of the resort. The resort gets you close to the ocean in an extraordinary part of Zanzibar( the best part) as I have stayed in three other hotels. under the General Manager Mr. Ayed directions who surprised me with his generosity and professionalism. You can find him every where at the resort checking and ensuring the guests are happy. The exceptional dedicated team starting from the GM, to Mr.Sayed at the front desk, Saeed (Mr.happy) the waiter at the restaurant, Rashidy & Khamis at the beach seem to think ahead for you and every detail or need to be fulfilled without a question. Food: The Egyptian and Italian dinner theme nights were rocking Zanzibar. The italian Chef is behind the entire Orchestra serving a tasty, fresh and prime quality food. Room: We were lucky staying at the Luxuary room with the jacuzzi, my kids loved the activities & classes at the beach side. The team is engaging the guests with games and activities all day. They cleaned the room twice a day. SPA: Don’t miss the SPA and make sure that Mr.Mahmoud will give you a good discount. One of the best relaxing SPA’s all over the world. Trips and entertainment: We went to the dolphin-trip, prison island and Gozani park. Exploring Zanzibar with the help of Mr. Milad Farah the trip advisor was a bonus as he is friendly and attentive to tolerate the trips to our needs and taste. Highly recommend the all inclusive package. Tanzanians people are unique, kind & simple. Kiwengwa resort is the best place for vacation at Zanzibar. I can think of nothing more since leaving after 6 glorious nights. Value for money$$:
Cons: That we have to leave.

Pros: everything
Cons: no

Pros: Staff were incredible, Natalia (front of house), General manager & Malid (Excursion Officer).
Cons: Food could be improved. However, the seperate sea food restaurant was delicious.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The beach
Cons: The bed was not comfortable at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were lucky spending six days at the resort. Everything about the resort was brilliant. The GM and the staff take care of the guests and all the details. They made a fabulous celebration for my daughter birthday singing Hakuna Matata :)) the food is delicious with the lead of the amazing Chef Antonio. Don’t miss the SPA. honestly the best ever. Great place to chill and relax.
Cons: That we have to leave.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The large beach...thats it.
Cons: Most of the staff were trying too hard to be friendly which honestly became extremely irritating. I couldn't even enjoy a meal at the buffet without being asked a million times how I'm doing or how the food is. Also a large majority of the male staff were extremely inappropriate towards some of the younger (and some under-age) female guests, constantly staring, flirting and asking for phone numbers (my 15 year old sister experienced this first hand to the point where I didnt feel comfortable with letting her walk around the hotel alone). The vendors selling goods on the beach were also very annoying. They follow you around constantly asking you to buy their stuff every single day which just gets so old and tiring. The food was also pretty bad most days. The music was absolutely terrible, like they literally played like 3 songs the whole time.

Pros: Absolutely everything! The fact that the manager was constantly around was fantastic. The staff, the accommodation, the facilities, the food, all exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is the most luxurious hotel in Zanzibar. It is very comfortable and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was very good, especially the breakfast which had a great variety. Choose this hotel if you want to visit Stone Town and Prison Island for a couple of days or if you are there for business.
Cons: The Spa could definitely be improved. The beach is an open beach so dont choose this hotel if you want a beach holiday.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was a fantastic spread! Many thanks to the general manager Nicholas for going out of his way to make us so comfortable. The staff was fabulous looking after us.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Terrific hotel with wonderful pool, views, right on the beach, good food selection and quality, superb staff. A bit pricey for being right in stone town (and therefore not on the nicest beach), but a great place to stay for those who don't have time to get out to the further parts of the island
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s historical significance, architecture, cleanliness, upkeep, good air conditioning and comfortable bed. The room was spacious. The staff were responsive to our needs and recommended things to do in the areas and arranged for it.
Cons: Electricity outages were common during our stay but only lasted a minute at a time. Our room did not have hot water.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: We were promised a bottle of sparkling wine in our room on arrival as it was our honeymoon but this was not provided. No big deal. The service at the bar / restaurant was worst I have ever experienced in a 5 star hotel. 15 minutes between providing the menu and taking our drinks order. Red wine was being kept on ice so it was served ice cold. Our food took ages to arrive and when it did arrive it did not come with any of our side orders. They had forgotten. Side orders were provided 20 minutes after we finished our main meal. The restaurant was not busy. That evening we rang reception to ask about the sparkling wine and were told they would call us back. No response. We inquired on our way out to dinner and were met with a shrug of the shoulders. When we returned from dinner we asked again and they said they would send it to our room immediately. Unless we inquired again, the hotel staff would have continued to simply ignore us. 1 hour later and it still had not arrived to room. We had to call reception again. The next day we asked for some change at the bar as we only had large notes. We were told no. We asked at the reception and again were told no. This is meant to be a $500/night 5 star hotel but yet they could not handle such a simple request. We had a drink that night in the bar and ordered two glasses of red wine. 6 times the waiter returned to our table to confirm the order. Eventually he advised that the wine was not available so we ordered different wine. Again the red wine was served ice cold despite the hotels website boasting of their prestigious sommeliers. The robes in the room were torn and there was blood on the moaquito net around the bed. Despite all of the above, it is a beautiful hotel in an excellent location with spectacular views. Sadly the service is poor or maybe we simply weren't important enough guests as staff seemed to swarm to certain guests. It may be the most expensive hotel in stone town but definitely not the best.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Thank you for the birthday surprise cake. It was much appreciated.
Cons: Bed making needs improvement. There needs to be two sheets (linen) a fitted and flat sheet
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, highly recommended if staying in stone town.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very good and took a lot of time to get to know us and make us feel comfortable, especially our 8 year old granddaughter. The room was very well appointed (junior suite) with loads of storage space. The food was a nice mix of local and international style and fairly priced. Fabulous sunsets over the sea from our balcony.
Cons: TV remote and bathroom scales needed batteries and obviously hadn’t been checked before new guests arrived. TV choice very limited. Small problem with lighting that wouldn’t switch off too, though this was rectified when reported. So just a few small niggly things that shouldn’t really happen at the price level.
9.3 Excellent
Cons: The price is high for the rooms
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautiful. We had an ocean view and kept the door open all night and it was simply stunning. We woke to the local women doing bootcamp on the beach in their hijabs and it was delightful. The management were exceptional and introduced themselves individually to us in case we needed anything. When we wanted to send some of our belongings back to Australia they were so helpful. We loved the pool area and after 2 weeks on safari, we adored this hotel. It gave us the refreshment we needed to travel on to Egypt.
Cons: The bar staff were so slow! Over an hour to get a Margherita at the pool is ridiculous and beers always arrived warm. However a local from Dar gave us a great tip - ask for an ice bucket with your beer and all will be fine.

Pros: 2nd time in this hotel. All in all, our 1 night in the villa was superb. Amazing beach. Good food. Warm personnel.
Cons: We booked for 2 nights via booking.com but on arrival the room was not available. It forced us to get a room of a budget higher than we were had planned for. The following day we had to check out as there was no room available despite making reservations via booking.com. The hustle of getting free cancellation was annoying and wasted our time. The staff was very helpful in facilitating the cancellation so as to avoid paying the cancellation fee.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The resort was nice. The staffs were quite nice and helpful. But the alcohol drinks for all inclusive package was poor. We were so happy about the romantic dinner arrangement on the beach. The room was clean. The resort was one hour drive from the airport.
Cons: The beach was not that nice. They have to clean it more. The local people were quite annoying, they were trying to sell you stuffs while you were relaxing on the the beach. The staffs who were working for the water sports were not helpful at all. They didn't even try to teach you how to do it even it was your first time!
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was excellent,
Cons: Aircon sub standard and noisy, evening entertainment non existing - been there before and there was entertainment every night, food became bland after the second day but outside evening outstanding

Pros: great location, great service, highly recommended
5.8 Okay
Pros: Perfect environment and neatness. Food is also very good and tasty. Some stuff are very experienced and interact well they know what they are doing to make the client feel comfortable.
Cons: One rude lady I can’t recall her name she could. Be considerate that I had kids that’s why my husband requested for late check out so what she was doing was to force me out of the room as if I don’t really matter despite we had two rooms and we stayed there for 3 nights.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Beach front
Cons: Cleanliness , room service , need renovation, food quality , many flies and insects in food area ...
7.5 Good
Pros: Good food, facilities and overall service. Very nice upgrade when we told them about our honeymoon.
Cons: The reception is too far from most of the rooms and therefore they should develop their transport service. They should also ask guests more often about drinks and refreshments. The toilets could also need some renovation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The layout of the resort is very well thought out, so although it was busy you could always find a quiet place. The location and beach is really lovely. When the tide is out, you can walk out, explore and see beautiful star fish and lots of sea urchins, as well as coral and crabs. All of our rooms had big balconies with elevated views of the resort and surrounding trees and gardens.

Pros: Beautiful property inside and out, hot shower 24/7, exclusive-feeling wide white sand beach. Ideal retreat for relaxation for couples.
Cons: Too isolated with no real road to the property and not much around. It’s best if you stay here planning to do nothing but relax. It’s a grueling 1:30 private car/taxi ride between $30 to $60 one way to Stone Town / the airport, or :45 min $25 to $45 one way to Nugwi. And it’s time consuming because you’ll have to reach out to multiple taxi companies for one to come get you within a reasonable amount of time. The Retreat can get you a ride within 30 mins at the maximum rate.

Pros: The place in downtown Stontown and the decoration of the hotel (old house).
Cons: My room was just down the kitchen and i could hear the noise of the fridge or the AC engine and people walking. The window insulation are not good also (old one). There was no decoration in the bathroom all the stuff were on a chair.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kisiwa House is centrally located but tucked away in quiet street. We booked the suite and it was perfect. Very spacious, nice interior design, very clean. Staff is super friendly, fast working and discreet. Airconditioning was perfect and also much needed because Stonetown is so hot during noon. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Fast laundry service as well.
Cons: Towels could have been cleaner and less smelly and the shower in the suite needs to be fixed as after showering half of the bathroom floor is going to bet wet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a beautiful old colonial house turned boutique hotel. If you like your hotels to have character and history, Kisiwa House is ideal. It’s beautifully charming and it’s located in the centre of stone town.

Pros: A lovingly restored traditional Stone Town building converted into a fabulous boutique hotel. The building was just gorgeous! The room was beautiful and cosy and full of charm and character. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice and served on the amazing roof top.
Cons: The only negative.......I didn't have time to have the evening meal in the restaurant and to enjoy all the nooks and crannies and little seating spots hidden around.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were very friendly and eager to help. However we were given some incorrecr information which completely derailed our plans for the final night.
Cons: The room we stayed in was poorly located and didn't catch any breeze and so was stiflingly hot and the a/c was glacial. A ceiling fan might be a possible option to ensure the rooms can stay cool. The bathroom was ridiculously small and in need of some upgrades to the fittings, particularly the taps and the showerhead which were encrusted with lime from the water. The sad little shower curtain was not a great look either. The breakfast has been the worst breakfast I have had at a supposedly 5* hotel. Both the hot and cold options were severely limited and underwhelming. The food was not particularly tasty either.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Serena Hotel was our first stop in Zanzibar on what has turned out to be one of the best trip of our lives. We spent two nights in stone town at the Serena Hotel. The hotel is really quite a heritage in stone town. Fantastically located, just a short walk from the old city. An excellent breakfast spread and really charming room which still has lots of classic touches that make it quite authentic. Tip: book a sun down dinner at the Emerson Spice which is a 10 min walk from the hotel! And book in advance to get the roof top/terrace!
Cons: There was a wedding on our last night and whilst it was quite entertaining to watch, I do wish the hotel had informed us as we could not go to bed until after 11pm when the wedding ended.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The service was impeccable and staff was very attentive to my needs. The buffet breakfast in AM was excellent. Wide variety of local cuisine with traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon and lots of other choices to choose from. My room was well taken care of especially with the room cleaning in AM and turn down was nice too. The room is scented with jasmine, windows shutters are closed and the mosquito net is covered around the bed. Needless, to say, I slept well. The AC and WiFi was reliable and the view from my room was beautiful.
Cons: I did not like how close the ocean is to the hotel. There is hardly any beach real estate left. The beach is very busy with locals so it isn’t as quiet as say the other side of the island. I ate once in the evening and ordered shrimp. It was tasty but the evening menu needs to be revamped. It’s too limited. I did sample a variety of desserts and this really needs to be worked on. For example, the mousse was too powdery and lacked consistency. The coffee bar isn’t inviting. It’s very sparse with limited cake menu that isn’t appealing. I did not order any hot drinks.
