Pros: Favorite place of the nine we stayed in on our holiday!!! Gorgeous accommodations and gardens!! Rooms were spotlessly clean with such comfy beds!! Hosts Claire and Nick are awesome!! Breakfast was a delight both with food and hospitality. My sister enjoyed the sauna. It’s a more rural area of southern England and we absolutely loved it!! A local pub they suggested was a tasty surprise with wood fired pizza, curry, steaks and more!
Cons: EVERY THING met and exceeded our expectations!!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely situation. A real rural retreat. House has been sympathetically modernised to accommodate guests yet retains plenty of charm. Huge garden at the back plus chickens & goats. Claire is incredibly welcoming and cooks a mean breakfast exactly to your liking on the Aga. The bedroom and en suite are comfortable and spotlessly clean. Terrific shower. And how many people have had a birthday candle as part of their breakfast? Just fabulous.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I stayed for two nights. The accommodation was very comfortable, quiet, spacious and clean. The host Edna has clearly put a lot of thought into what guests appreciate. She provided loads of extras such as a bowl of fruit, a variety of teas and coffee and fresh cold milk in the fridge provided. The WiFi worked well using the Ipad provided. The breakfast menu was extensive and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would rate the Gate House as one of the best B & Bs we have stayed in. Highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast choices with really friendly service.
Cons: Room too hot for me, though it was very warm weather.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had a beautiful relaxing stay at Gatehouse. Edna and Peter were great friendly hosts and the room, facilities, amenities, breakfast service were all superb. We were sad to leave after two nights there.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent accommodation provided by a very relaxed, friendly owner. Good quality breakfast. Quiet position. Littleport may seem an out of the way place to stay but because it has a lovely little train station, it is ideally positioned to make easy visits to Ely, Cambridge and Kings Lynn. Highly recommended.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious room, friendly staff, tasty breakfast, extremely clean room and bathroom, nice room furniture, spacious bathroom, very quiet location, easy parking, lots of local/homemade produce at breakfast.
Cons: The breakfast room could do with a radio or a speaker - it is quite uncomfortable to have a chat as everything can be heard from the kitchen as well as when sharing the dining room with other guests.
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Drinkstone Park Bed & Breakfast and Gardens in Bury St Edmunds, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Bradfield Woods and Rougham Control Tower Aviation Museum. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts are first class, with different takes on some things but all the tradition you could want. The gardens are spectacular and there’s history, too. When my husband became ill Christine and Michael couldn’t have been more kind and helpful.
Cons: The first night coincided with a particularly cold temperature dip and the room was cold but the next day they made sure we were warm from then on.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If possible I would have awarded Caroline and Michael 11 out of 10. Exceeded all expectations. As a female travelling alone for work it can be quite daunting sometimes. Caroline and Michael made me feel part of the family, going that extra distance to ensure that everything was better than you would expect. The log burner was on each time I got back from work and I was greeted with tea, scones and cream. I nearly completed the jigsaw in the lounge and was very tempted to stay an extra night to finish it! Beautiful gardens, excellent breakfast, comfortable room, nothing too much effort for them, dogs friendly. Would I stay again? Of course - and I hope to do so.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hosts and the property were charming - especially the garden which was full of interest. Breakfast was excellent as was advice and help in finding a location for an evening meal.
Cons: I did have a problem climbing into the shower and there was no hand rail for support.

Cons: Absolutely nothing!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hosts and the dogs !
Cons: Nòthing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful garden to unwind in. Amazing breakfast and wonderful hosts.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Room/bed - very clean and comfortable with lovely towels, handwash, shampoo etc Offered cup of tea and cake on arrival FRESH milk in mini flask for tea in my room Delicious and imaginative options for breakfast, inc chestnut and mushroom 'burger' - yum! Fabulous 3 acre garden (with hens for fresh eggs)
Cons: Nothing could have been improved by hosts. Location rural and no public transport nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked and very much appreciated the personal touch which both Michael and Christine afford their guests. Their attention to detail is first class. Their friendly manner, local knowledge and helpful maps were most welcome.
Cons: I always find other peoples showers, taps etc a steep learning curve, so perhaps a run through of the facilities would be a good idea.
The Old Hall - Ely - Building
8
9.5 Excellent (201 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Old Hall in Ely, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Ely Cathedral and Babylon Gallery. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful location with Ely Cathedral hovering in the distance.... Beautiful, spacious room and bathroom with very comfortable bed.
Cons: For those of us traveling by rail, it was a bit pricey to take taxis into town and back every day. This is not the fault of the B n B, but there was no good way to walk to town, although it was actually only a mile or so away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The spaciousness layout of the Hall, exceptional quality and attention to detail - everything was exceptional including the breakfast. Bedroom with view of the lakes and Ely Cathedral was magnificent.
Cons: Nothing could have been better.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Room
Cons: Noise from main road
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Proper premium experience. Absolutely exceptional building and grounds, jawdropping. I was embarrassed not to have cleaned my little hatchback. I’ve stayed at some impressive, repurposed stately homes, eg De Vere Venues, but this was a cut above. An enormous amount of effort, love (and money im sure) has been invested in it, and it shows. We were in the Cathedral room and felt like royalty-multiple aspect views of the garden, lakes, cathedral and farmland. We paid £130 for a night and wondered whether there’d been a mistake. Quality, tasteful fittings and furnishings- armchairs, curtains, delightful lamps, expansive lead windows, roomy shower and giant, rolltop bath. Breakfast cooked to order, quality bacon and sausages, perfect poached eggs- range of chopped, prepared fresh fruit; I don’t even know how raspberries can taste so good at this time of year; rich, cafétière coffee. We had a very pleasant walk around the terraces, gardens and extensive lake system. We saw lots of birds (swallows nesting in the house eaves) and a giant, brown hare! I’m so glad I put the research in and found this place to stay at on our way from London to Norfolk. We will return. Thank you.
Cons: All the negatives are eclipsed by the positives (the latter including, critically, the remarkable value for money), but to be utterly open an honest, these are our minor negatives: - no robes (although rooms very well equipped otherwise) - our bathroom fan seemed to be sucking the kitchen smells in - kitchen crew smoking spot was right below our bedroom window (also coming in the fan) - the road was audible with the windows open
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Peec and Qwyet
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable well appointed room, excellent plumbing ie; instant hot water at any time of day. Amazing views of the Cathedral and very impressive outdoor gardens.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unique property, spacious accommodation. Fabulous choice for breakfast. Friendly service from the moment we came in the door
Cons: Only thing to improve this was to have evening dining facilities
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast service could be slicker
Cons: Near a main road and you can hear the traffic noise

Pros: A beautiful house in great surroundings, if you are looking for something unique this is the place. We were made very welcome, nothing is too much trouble. The room was very spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. The cooked breakfast was excellent and at a time to suit us which was great. We had an evening meal one night was was really tasty. There were robes provided ( useful when going to the shared bathroom) and tea and coffee in the room. If we are going to the area again we will certainly stay here.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely owners, very comfy bed and a great breakfast. Felt very welcome and would thoroughly recommend to everyone.
7.5 Good
Pros: Quiet location. Great for Ely, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds. Comfortable bed in a light, spacious room.
Cons: I was booking last minute and wasn’t paying attention to the fact it was a shared bathroom and just haven’t booked this kind of property for many years. All the details are in the description but I was in a rush. It was refreshing to stay in a family run B&B after so many years but it’s not really for me. Just the shared bathroom and the lack of sound proofing that comes with the impersonal chains that I usually book.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Breakfast, delivered in a brown paper bag, was poor.
Cons: asked almost translucent white appearance The staff "go through the motions". Care is taken in the kitchen with plating up, but the whole is then compromised by plates being almost tossed onto tables, no attempt at alignment, and the whole has the overall appearance of chaos. My father used to say - never confuse motion for action - he came from Norfolk, and I think this adequately identifies the issue. As regards the food it promises much, looks OK on the plate but there is more to good food than triple fried chips - and taste is the ultimate, and in reality, the only measure that matters. Picking great ingredients requires that they be treated with care; for example the cod. Cod is a large-flaked, almost translucent white flesh of a particular flavour. It should be left large-flaked, be carefully seasoned and cooked carefully. Mashing it up, a la crab does the fish no favours. The wine-list is a mish-mash of poor choices - which is scandalous given the extraordinary global choices now available.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: No long mirror in junior suit and there is room for one. A bit of litter left in room by cleaner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location for city centre
Cons: Noisy main road outside, room very warm due to time of year had to keep window open.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was courteous and accommodating-- went out of their way to help us when we arrived The location was fantastic. Decor was lovely. It was cozy and luxurious. The breakfast was good. Really all around a great place to stay.
Cons: There wasn't one thing we didn't like. The safe didn't seem to work but we didn't ask for someone to check it as it wasn't too important to us.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the atmosphere and food are very good, as is the location.
Cons: The staff. Left standing at checkin counter for a good time while staff member spoke on phone to management about shift times. The better practice would have been to resume the call later, or at least acknowledge my presence. Very rude. (I had a similar experience at The Price Albert bar some 3 years ago, and have never returned since)

Pros: The Bedford Lodge was a lovely place to stay, the bed and room were comfortable and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant. The hotel has lovely grounds and nice fitness facilities. While there, I took advantage of the pool (unfortunately, the hot tub and sauna were undergoing renovation, but should be completed soon). I usually live out of my suitcase when I travel, but the room was clean enough that I felt comfortable placing clothes in the drawers, where, unfortunately, I left some of them. When I discovered this and called the hotel, they very promptly packed the left items and sent them off to me at my follow-on hotel, keeping me informed of the progress. It is easy to get to Cambridge from there and, if in the area, I would be happy to stay there again.

Pros: The hotel is in a great location with friendly staff and facilities.
Cons: The amount of wasps mean sitting outside is an issue, we tried at lunch and breakfast, but the wasps were too much of a distraction. Can the hotel look at ways to deter them to allow more outside dining

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, next to the beautiful Abbey gardens, close enough to the main town but just far enough to be peaceful. The rooms were tastefully decorated, were clean and well equipped. The breakfast was wonderful with plenty of choice.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Overall, very roomy with a well equipped comfortable bedroom and a large bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Our room looked out over the car park so it was fairly quiet at night and we slept with the window wide open as it was a warm night. It is very conveniently placed to explore Bury with the Cathedral and park a short walk away and the city centre about 5 mins stroll. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of cold and hot dishes.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stylish but informal. Excellent healthy breakfasts - cooked and otherwise. Bedroom with lots of charactor. Any criticisms are balanced by plenty of positive experiences.
Cons: I was very happy but some people might find some rooms a little quirky and with, in our case, a rather small bathroom.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Riverside Inn Guest House in Ely, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Babylon Gallery and Ely Cathedral. Guests will find features like an airport shuttle.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The décor is beautiful and the whole Inn is finished to a very high standard. The location is right on the river with canal barges and small boats in a marina type setting. As it was August there was a relaxed feel being right on the river. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are well equipped and there is a feeling of luxury. In our rooms there was a complimentary bowl of fruit and bottled water. Breakfast was continental in a small, but bright and cheerful room.
Cons: We stayed midweek but on a warm summer weekend you might get noise from the restaurant benches and tables next door. They are situated, almost in front of the Riverside Inn. Everything is very luxurious in the hotel but it is verging on the pretentious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: High standard of decoration and cleanliness, personal touches of fresh fruit and chocolates in room. Room large with views along the river, the bathroom is the size of a single room, big bonus - underfloor heating. Easy access to cathedral, town centre and railway station.
Cons: 10-00 am is a little early check out time, but we were allowed some leeway
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner had kept me a parking space nearby, thank you!
Cons: Continental breakfast, it was fine but iI prefer a cooked breakfast.
10.0 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location and nice big room
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The cleanliness, beautifully presented surroundings, spacious room, lovely in room coffee and fruit, fluffy towels, underfloor heating in bathroom, beautiful decor and nice toiletries in bathroom, stylish breakfast room and fantastic location overlooking the boats, close by pub, restaurants, art gallery, park, station, Riverside walk into open country and 10 minute walk to cathedral/city centre. And extremely comfortable bed
Cons: First impression of room late pm was that it was very dark and dingy with heavy decor/carpet but it was about to pour down outside which darkened the room. Lighting was fine though and room nice and light with sun streaming in next morning. Breakfast pastries/bread could have been more appetising and more varied.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner was accommodating about us leaving our room an hour later and storing our luggage under the stairs, as we were not leaving Ely until late afternoon.
Cons: The breakfast was OK but not up to the standard of the rest of the place. Croissants were cold and not crisp. It was advertised as a continental breakfast but there were no breakfast rolls - only very ordinary sliced bread which one had to taost. The fruit salad looked as though it was fresh fruit, but this was only on top - underneath it was just tinned fruit.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly manager and staff Well maintained Good location excellent breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fantastic place to stay. This was a last minute booking. The lady who greeted us was so nice, she talked to us about Bury St Edmunds, told us all about the hotel. Umbrellas if we needed them, if we needed any thing just ask. Beautiful bedroom and we had the last one which was the smallest, it was plenty big enough. Abbey Hotel is so personal, they make you feel so welcome, clean, great breakfast and brilliant location. We will be back

8.8 Excellent
Pros: This was a room in a newer purpose built annex to the main pub and owner's residence above. It was a family room for just two, so massive for the two of us. We arrived later than expected and we were treated with a wonderful dinner past usual times and company of the resident German shepherd. Good English breakfast in the morning in the pub. The ambiance is on the more reserved, simple side. Quiet after a busy day in Cambridge. Nice external terrace and garden out the back of the pub. Adjacent horse farm. Very close to Bury St Edmunds which exceeded our expectations.
Cons: I had assumed our room above the pub.

Pros: The breakfast was exceptional. First day we had the full english which was really nice and the next day I had american style pancakes that were freshly homemade and they were heaven and every morning had fresh fruit to choose from all cut up in bowls on a table and choice of cereal and yoghurt. it was so lovely. The beds were comfortable on the bed there is soft or more firmer pillows me and my husband worked out our preference of pillows. Hubby had the soft ones and I had the firmer. Me and my husband are fussy with pillows but slept well and it was a comfy bed. The bathroom was big the shower was so nice to get in and had everythijg we needed. We had tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom and was very well equipped even with nice biscuits and chocolate each every morning and fresh milk and fresh water every morning in our own fridge. Debbie and Gordan the owners were very lovely and welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. Would deffinatley stay again it was so nice and stunning for a B&B. The best one I have stayed in better then your conventional hotel.

Fresh milk had been put in our fridge along with complimentary water. Great!! There is a little booklet in the room to tell you about the local area including pubs and restaurants. We were recommended the Plough restaurant and told to book. So pleased we did as this little restaurant was a delight. There was a choice of cooked breakfast we were just asked to make our selection the night before so as the owners new what we wanted. My husband had smoked salmon and scrambled egg on a muffin that he said was delicious. I just had fresh summer berries with yoghurt and some toast. Wonderful breakfast in a lovely large and airy dining room. So pleased we stayed here the owners were a delight.
