I stayed there three nights, staff is very friendly specially the guy who received me in the evening 7 Nov 2010, they spoke with me in English and in French as well. They make me feel like at home and take care of me nicely. Hotel is at good location, just near to a train station Coimbra-A. Many restaurants of different kinds are just at one minute walk. University of Coimbra is round about at 15-20 minutes walk up to nearby hill. Hotel services are very good for me like, television, heater+AC, telephone, free WiFi, buffet break fast etc.Hotel is very clean. I really enjoyed my stay there and i think it was a good choice as compared to the price and services offered. just one bit problem for me was that my room was near to a road but when i closed the windows there was no noise.
The Parking Valet was great and a nice location.
The location was good. My room was spacious and very comfortable. The bar seemed more like a private club.
Good breakfast and excellent location. Bathroom was not very comfortable (shower too tied and hairdryer too weak)
room was too hot
Its position - we were first time tourists in Portugal and could walk to all the city's features. Parking service the best we experienced in our 3 weeks trip. The parking service - the best we experienced during our 3 weeks in Portugal
very central to train and old town. would stay again. upstairs bar area outside could do with upgrade.
The hotel is well located, has confortable rooms and serves a good breakfast. Diet products at breakfast.
Decent city hotel, but nothing great really stands out. Good base for walking tours of the city. Tricky automobile access, offset by well-organized valet parking.
Nice, big room Obviously, this is a new hotel and needs fine-tuning. There was too little staff to help out at the reception, there are too little elevators, the parking garage is too narrow to park comfortably and is reasonably expensive given the not-too-central location of the hotel. Rooms are big, but the colors chosen are slightly depressing.
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was well presented and prepared. I was happy with their knowledge of English. The parkade needs exit signs.
Excllent Address hard to find
opened in april 2010 so very clean rooms and good location by river.excellent check in staff. good evening meal breakfast food left uncovered , and waiting staff indifferent ( changing broken heatbulb without moving bacon and eggs etc under it!) signage directions to hotel should be more obvious from approach roundabout
The staff was very helpful, always nice. The breakfast was great, lots of different cereals and hot food. The whole experience was very pleasant. The bathtub didn't have any antiderrapant device, and in my opinion, it should have, because we were staying in the handicapped room. Also, I think the parking fare should be included in the room price.
Staff was very nice. Food was good but it it hard to find bad portugueses food. Garage is terrible, dark, unsafe and lacks ventilation. Had a CO alarm while there and it was scare. Very bad engineering. One needs to manouver on the top of the exit ramp to get out. Location is very bad on a really rundown area of the city. Quite depressing. Rooms had very ugly. Carpet is ugly, dated and filthy. One has tô wheat sandals. Dryer was bad. TV was really bad as far as image quality. Beds and pillows were really bad. All furniture was of bad quality. Internet was ridículos. Scratchy signal and when working (very seldon) was worse than the dial up of the old times. And staff had no idea or solution. Once they suggested me to walk around my room to improve the signal. I ha 2 iPads and 2 two iPhones and some times no one could get a signal. the sad part is that this one is supposed to be the best hotel in Coimbra. I guess I will never visit coimbra again.
The hotels decoration and the breakfast. The location. Probably the worst part of Coimbra.
I loved the staff. They were incredibly helpful and knowledgable about the area. The location is fabulous. A short walk to all the hot spots. I thought the room was clean and nice. It was quiet on our street. My one problem with the place was that the walls seemed thin between the rooms. We heard our neighbor watching tv until about 4am. I managed to sleep through most of it but my wife was kept up.
The best breakfast!
Pools, gym, steam room were all fantastic! The pillows were either too big or too small! Small detail but would greatly improve stay!
The hotel is modern and nice They didn't have parking, I didn't have a place to park and it was heavily raining, I . They have parking for 8 Euro per night .
Positive: clean, near to the centre of Coimbra, after checking out the parking place was still available (for free)
Good hotel. All declared services are provided. Nothing special to add.
Service of the Reception Staff was excellent, they could not do enough to make you4r stay pleasant. Location is great walking to the old centre of Coimbra Internet for the guests was not working, and as it was a long weekend it could not be attended to. I was however able to use the staff computer to attend to my urgent business emails
Park garage.Location (15 min walk to city centre).
We only stayed one night but we thought that this hotel was excellent for our needs
Parking space under the hotel. Good size room. Directions on how to find it. Complex road system in this town with no opportunities to turn back.
Well located in old town. Quiet. Decent room at good price - quality.
The location was a 15 minute walk to the center of the city. It was a modern building with a large comfortable room with all new facilities. Large flat screen TV with cable channels. The breakfast was nice. The room was too hoteven with the heat off. Did not like the walk about to the hotel from the city center at night. They had underground parking which was convenient but they charged 5 euro a day and the lot was empty.
The breakfast. The room was cold all night. I've warned the reception for this and they told me that the problem is going to be solved, but the room continued cold.
Great stay at this hotel. Beautiful situation and view. Very comfortable accomodation. Nice staff.
Wonderful design hotel with a fantastic big room ( we got a suite) situated on a boulevard across big sandy beach. the welcome bob bon and some fruit made it perfect When you step out of elevator it is really dark in the hallway without natural daylight...but it made surprise of the light room even bigger
Loved everything about the hotel and the helpful staff clean modern and great location
Very nice property My convertor was taken from my room twice. So causing me the expense for purchasing 2 convertors. I then had to go down to the desk to ask for a blow dryer to use and instead of just leaving it in my room, they kept taking it back and I would have to go down to the desk everyday to ask for one.
Quit good breakfast for 8 EUR. Worth the money.
A modern and well designed hotel. No adverse comments.
Very large room with great sea views.
Very nice and comfortable hotel in the center of Figueira da Foz. Very comfortable and spacy rooms, with wonderfull view to ocean. Recommended to everybody who are looking for a short break during trip trough Portugal Nothing
Nice rooms and beautiful views The cleaninf service was poor to almost non-existent...they expected us to wash our own dishes?! The staf were unfriendly and it felt like they were doing you a favour.
Very welcoming and rooms where clean and spacious, location right opposite beach is superb and local restaurants 5 minute walk away. Only thing we found was food was pricey and better to eat in a local restaurant, cheaper and better quality
Excellent location and facilities, first class hotel
Everything was perfect!!!
nice clean rooms and good location needed tea / coffee facilities in bedrooms
Excellent design, decoration and superb art work. Lovely room with wonderful balcony viewing the beach and sea. Good quality food. Polite, helpful staff. Great for the centre of town. Air conditioning was not working and, though it was easily possible to live with this, it was frustrating and uncomfortable until we asked about it; it would have been helpful to have been told about the problem upon arrival so that we would not have spent time trying to adjust the controls ourselves. I'm sure this won't be an issue for long!
great value and great to have a balcony The breakfast is very expensive.
Location on beach was nice. Breakfast was ok, but I would have not paid extra for it if was not included in the rate. Hotel is very noisy, Nightclub next door kept us awake til 5 A.M. Room is very basic. Bed not very comfortable. More a 3 star than a 4 star.
A real touch of luxury for a very good price (out of season). We had a sea view which was breath-taking! The balcony which was glazed allowed us to sit out and enjoy the view whatever the weather. Because it was out of season, there weren't a huge number of restaurants open nearby, so we dined at the hotels restaurant. Selection wasn't huge and it was a very average meal at the cost of 90 euros for 4 people (main course, a bottle of wine and water only). Service was very slow considering there were only two other tables with people on.
The way at the reception desk I was welcomed the first day and the service during all my stay was perfect, "sunny people" in a sunny country NA
Closeness to train and bus stations. Good selection of places to eat at all price ranges. Easy access to most attractions. Beautiful views. Nice to have a reasonable resturant on site. Smoking rooms are a good idea. No complaints
Very friendly ,helfull ,english speaking staff.Prices of the bar.Central location.Godd price. cleanliness of the room -the sheets were changed ,but hoovering and bathroom cleaning was not the best. One day the room was not serviced.I stayed in the room facing the main street -the trafic noise was vey bad-couldnt keep window open.Hot in the room.
You can park your car in the garage, the hotel is as well easy accessible (no small streets). Location is central to start your walking sightseeing tour. No fridge in the room.
The location of the hotel very close to the city center.
Location No parking for free
Very good hotel and staff with excellent buffet meals pillows
Friendly and service minded staff. Dated rooms with Ac not functioning. We had a room at the front and was very noisy with the city traffic. The rest of the familiy had a room a the back and that was ok.
Perfect interior; very good breakfast; location close to the city centre. There internet access in the lobby was out-of-order
large room/bath, reasonably clean and quiet, firm bed, good value for money reception friendly, but rather chaotic (trying to do three things at once); room rather dark and worn out (old carpet, etc); chair old and sagging; not so much ventilation; no electric outlet - need to unplug lamp to charge phone! breakfast room too crowded (nothing horribly bad, just lots of minor things)
The valet parking and ease of use. Sadly no internet At the discount price
the hotels relaxing atmosphere
Staff was helpful Poor maintenance generally
Good staff Traffic noise all night
The employee who parked the car was very helpfull. The reception answered all our questions. After checking out, I could leave my car untill late in the afternoon. Breakfast is not included but there is a nice little restaurant across the street.
Excellent location, room was very clean and roomy. The plasma screen tv with acces to new released moves was a great bonus for nights to stay in. Great Faciities!! Loved staying there and would definately go back again.
The food is expensive, although very good
The hotel staff were very helpful, and the general ambiance was good. Set in lovely gardens , the hotel is like an old English county manor. The room was adequate, and had a large bathroom. Breakfast was good. This hotel is almost impossible to find without really really really good directions. The access roads are like spagetti junction. We had to hire a taxi to follow! The location of the hotel is a bit disappointing, especially true if you choose not to eat in .
the charm; beautiful architecture; excellent cooking
Fiendliness and outstanding service. If we were to visit Coimbra again, we would stay at Quinta das Lagrimas. nothing, liked everything!!!
Bautiful hotel and gardens. Nice pool and spa. Breakfast was excellent - good quality and selection. Gym was a bit basic.
Everything:room, food, facilities, garden, etc
Very professional.staff; big, comfortable room. Bar closes at midnight, and no room service after midnight. Difficult to understand in a 4-star hotel.
The history and the character of the building itself. It was refreshing to stay somewhere traditional rather than in a chain of hotels where everything is the same and you're not even sure which Country you are in!. The roaring fire in the bar and the excellent service (recommendations!) actually made our stay for us. It was a little complicated to find but then we discovered it was perfectly located to reach the main highways going south where we needed to be everyday. Also, the lack of choice in evening food wasn't good. We did use the Michelin star restaurant once which was nice, but we werent there on a special occasion so it was a little ott for our needs and overpriced for the actual standard of main meal - although the desserts were fabulous!.
Services and staff
We like the quietness, the dinner and breakfast and beach walks of course. I think that the access to the health club should be better (it's an outwards one).
A nice pleasant hotel with good staff Like most hotels - very few tv channels
Peacefull and queit alternative for pro business travellers Free WLAN (as advertised) operated only accosianaly, pay WLAN operated well (couple €/hour), small but really irritant thing, hotel personnel did not react about complaiment - "try again later...
very big, clean room, swimming pool, near the beach breakfast - 5 days the same menu
Enough parking places in front of the hotel, air-conditioning and a refrigerator in the rooms, friendly staff. Very isolated location. choice of menu-options with dinner was rather poor.
Excellant location, we were lucky to be entertained with some traditional Portugese dancing and signing put on for a party of French visitors Poor view from room overlooking the fire escape and car park. Unable to shut bathroom window and were therefore cold at night. Would recommend hotel with reservations
Best staff of portugal. They managed to find a cancelled accomodation.
Location, room size Uncomfortable bed (twin room), unavailable game room
Very close to the beach, spacious room, good breakfast. The beds could be more comfortable.
Size of room and excellent breakfast Not a complaint just a suggestion for tea/coffee making facilities in the room
Nice 3 star. Clean. Central area.
The staff was very helpful. Parking is right next door. Breakfast is good. Nice size bathroom. It was difficult to find. I used the navigator from there website and it brought us no where close to the hotel.
The staff was excellent and the breakfasts were very good.
Location, clean, big space internet connection is terrible
This hotel is about as much as you can get for the 3 star hotel. Very clean, excellent breakfast and service, very friendly staff, location near historical center, bus and train station... Just great!!
The hotel was lovely, 3min walk into the centre, lots of nice restaurants close to the hotel. We were given a choice of rooms, the one we chose had a lovely balcony looking over to the town on the hill. Marco on reception was just lovely and always cheerful, polite and very helpful with advice on what to see and where to eat. There was a safe on site parking facility. The parking wasn't free for guests. No other problems at all it was a lovely place.
The greatest value of the hotel is its location - 5 minutes from train station on foot and very near the centre of the city.
Central location The bathroom was quite dirty
Great value for your money.
Hotel is elegant. Room 216 has two twin beds and this room faces the street, is quiet, has a good mattress and nice linens. It was well-maintained. The reception staff were kind and helpful. The restaurant food was delicious and the wait staff are very attentive. I would stay here again.
The hotel was in a poor position for the town, and it was our experience that the staff did not know the best places to visit in the town, but tried
The location was a little bit far from the central, no free WiFi
It was one of the nicer hotels in Coimbra High internet charges. Staff reluctant or unable to provide specific information about facilities in the area
Very nice and comfortalbe room.
a great location for a visit to Coimbra - breakfast was excellent and room very spacious and in extremely good decorative order,.
Very large hotel. Location is ok, however lots of business people stay there so would not recommend it for tourists who want to have a relaxed breakfast in the morning.
Location was quite nice Could replace old blanket with a newer one or even better, with an edredon. It would not hurt to have paper tissue available like most hotels. With the flu seasom peaking with would be nice to have it.
The dining room. The menu was extensive and varied, the food itself was excellent and the staff very efficient.
The Tryp Coimbra is definitely representative of the Sol Melia chain. A well balanced combination of luxury and fair price. The room was comfortable, very clean and well setup. Due to a confusion, we were initially assigned a room (a group of three adults) that had only two beds. The situation was immediately rectified without us having to return to the front desk. The staff was professional, friendly and capable, reflexive of the level one would expect from a hotel of this level. Only drawback I should warn is that a car or taxi is a must due to the location (I believe public transportation is also an alternative but not practical) if considering sightseeing places such as the university, city center, botanical garden, etc. Although it is not the hotel's fault, the location is not strategic for visiting Coimbra since one must have a car to get around from such location (in google maps it looks closer but because of the topography of Coimbra it is not in a location one would consider just walking from). However, the location is quite peaceful, safe and more PLEASENT than other hotels closer to the city center.
Great breakfast, clean rooms.
