Authenticity to the African overland experience
The owners are very polite, not super heavily involved in the direct customer service, but they had no problem jumping in to handle any questions that arose, and were very welcoming when hanging out by the bar. The food was pretty good too! The rooms are nice and comfortable. There is plenty of room and hot water for showers - a huge plus. The vibe was very chill and welcoming, and we enjoyed the area (and avoiding most of Nairobi's traffic).
We had some trouble checking in. We had a room where 3 of us were all arriving at different times. We contacted them in advance letting them know that we were arriving very late/early in the morning (around 2 am), which they had no issue with, and also letting them know that the 3rd person in our party was arriving before us. We asked if that was an issue, it wasn't according to them, and we also requested that we pay for the room when we got there, again, no issues on their side. Once we arrived no one was there, which makes sense, it's 2am, we didn't expect anyone to be waiting for us, but it took a while banging on multiple doors and windows. Finally the security guard found someone to let us in. Then we found out they made our friend pay, and their credit card machine wasn't working at the moment so they made her pay with cash, which kind of put us in a pickle later in the trip. Again, we werent so worried about the check-in process since we were arriving at a weird time of day and the payment process was annoying but not the end of the world. We stayed in a room for 3 people for 2 days and then we were supposed to transfer to a bigger room the next day since we were meeting another friend. The rooms had been reserved more than a month in advance so when the day arrived I showed them the reservation and they informed me that the room wasn't available. We found out they had a friend staying and they gave her the room. No problem for us really, we said we would take 2 rooms but asked if we could still pay the amount for the one room we reserved. He said he would ask the owner and get back to us. No problem. Upon checkout he said the amount that was still owed and I gave him my credit card. A second later I said, wait, that number doesn't make sense but he had already ran my card. I asked to see the detailed total still trying to add the figures in my head. We had 3 days of eating and drinking for 3-4 people.
