Hotel Modern is up to standard as it used to be.
No Valet, No ice on floor we stayed on, dirty, uncomfortable bed, unfriendly desk staff, no doorman, no security, no restaurant, a/c didn't work correctly, noisy. I will not go back and I will spread the word that the new owners don't understand customer service. Still charging the same amount as if it were still a boutique hotel...more like motel
breakfest poor interent connection
Nice with the frills
Close to city without being too loud
Breakfast was all carbs- no eggs or protein
We had a good stay.
Good location, polite staff, Funky decor, clean linens and towels (no stains), good breakfast but it starts at 7, We'd stay there again
Our bathroom faucet was wacky and wouldn't turn off. The entry light didn't work. The room was small (which we knew) and dinged up.
Good Hotel Very small rooms.
Right down town. Only a 4 minute streetcar ride or 10 minutes walk to canal/bourbon St. Pretty safe area. Staff was super friendly and the restaurant at the hotel was 5 Stars.
Very very very very small rooms but for the price it's fantastic. Layout if the hotel is a bit odd as well.
Great front desk staff
Friendly, helpful, real
I was a late night check-in that left early morning and the gentleman tending to a few others and myself at that hour was genuine, friendly and super helpful Instead of annoyed or rude. The decor is different yet Inviting, location quiet for the most part and the rooms offer unique niceties (soaps, coffee, etc not like what you'd find at most chains). Loved the books too, what a thoughtful touch!
Their green initiatives are a great, conscious model of what should be done to protect Lake Ponchartrain but I found stray head hairs in the bed & think that "reusing" linens shouldn't be an option, hygiene wise.
The location was great in walking distance of everything.
The room was so small that it wasn't worth the money! The person that checked us in failed to mention until after the fact their was a deposit for each night that we stayed. We had to ask after we had been gone from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to get clean towels since no one had cleaned our room or brought new towels.
The room was decorated with books and the interior was not like a typical hotel room. The staff was friendly and helpful. Carl at the front desk help went out in the middle of the Lee Circle to get us a cab. Thank you, Carl.
The walls between the rooms were thin. We could hear a bed shake in another room and clearly hear the noise. In the bathroom, the body soap, shampoo and conditioner bottles were in the dispensers mounted on the bathroom walls, which was fine, but I could get enough body soap from it. The bathtub drainage was very slow. It was a good 20 min walk to Canal St. it was fine with us, but may be too far if you don't like to walk a lot. it's in the Watehouse district where it's quieter, which we preferred.
Enjoyed my stay
I found the room to be very well equipped, and I liked the book theme. I happened to be there over Mardi Gras and the hotel is on the Parade Route... seemed like it would have been fun to watch from downstairs.
The internet was free but really didn't work -- very slow.
Great location, kinda cool place
The Hotel Modern is close to New Orleans museums, warehouse district that's packed with great galleries and good restaurants. It's also on the streetcar line. Accommodating staff here! I checked into a room with wet carpet--coffee spilled--and then was given a room that was so small that there was not space for a closet and no window. The third room was perfect.
The Hotel Modern is actually part of the famous New Orleans Art Deco district and is within walking distance of such destinations and sites as Riverwalk Marketplace Shopping Center, Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Bourbon Street, the famous St. Louis Cemetery No 1 as well as Lafayette Cemetery. The Uptown historic area is less than two and a half miles away, and in the neighborhood around the hotel, visitors find Union Station, the World War II Museum, a long list of museums, monuments, and squares, and, of course, amazing restaurants. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is only 11 miles from the hotel.
As part of the IHG chain, the hotel offers a long list of amenities, including a free hot breakfast each morning, free parking for guests, a fully equipped fitness center, a concierge desk, dry cleaning (for a fee), a business service center, free Wi-Fi throughout the property, complimentary beverages in the lobby, and a meeting room.
The rooms have been recently renovated, and are all designed for optimal, home-like comfort and feature Beautyrest mattresses, premium linens, air cleaners to help allergy or asthma sufferers, signature toiletries in the bathroom, a mini-fridge, microwave, hot beverage maker, flat-screen TV, work desk, cable TV, phone service with voicemail, and climate controls.
With a great location in a world-famous city just walking distance to many hotspots, The Hotel Modern is a good choice for first-time visitors, business travelers and everyone in between. Whether you want to sample the best restaurants or the most historic monuments or locations, this property ensures it is easy to do so.
