Cons: all good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, Liana’s lovely energy shines through in all aspects of Black Mamba. Its a magic place!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The property owner is amazing, friendly and really helpful. The Cabañas have an ocean view and you can hear the waves all night. The hostel is super clean and stylish. They provide a very generous breakfast with fruit and fresh juice. The restaurant is also good at the hostel.
Cons: Some of the staff don’t speak a word of English and the dog barks so loud, but other than that it’s a truly nice place to stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff, good food and the owner made the place herself with a lot of love and creativity. The rooms are beautiful.
Cons: It’s located on the beach and everything is quite open so you will have some sound coming from outside. For us not really a problem.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great host with good tips, excellent breakfast, beautifully painted building (inside and out) and marvelous ocean view to top it of! Highly recommended to everyone who enjoyes a bit of funkyness
Cons: The stairs to some of the rooms can be quite steep, but Its not really a problem since there other more accessable rooms as well :)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Good vibes thanks to the owner and other guests (hikers), original architecture and decor, breakfast, excellent food in the on-site restaurant, proximity of the ocean and its sound at night. Good location for hiking close to the Paul valley and to the road where aluguers (common taxis) stop. Excellent value for money.
Cons: The decor is very original but some practical aspects could be improved. We would appreciate more light in the room, more privacy (e.g. larger and less tranparent curtains, better separation of a bathroom/toilet part from the rest of the room), chairs in the room, larger double bed. Also, it was not a problem for us but it may be useful for future guest to know that stairs are more of a ladder-style and the entrance to the room is via a trap door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a delight to find a gem blended so harmoniously into the local culture and landscape. The host and the staff’s warm welcome and support makes it very hard to say goodbye :). Highly recommended if you look for beauty.

Pros: Great customer service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Place was great, slept like a baby! Particularly after hiking up the Paul Valley.
6.0 Good
Pros: Very calm and peaceful place, beautiful view.
Cons: The beds are not very comfortable and the room comes with a very noisy refrigerator (we just unplugged it).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the terrace was incredible and the location overall fantastic. Excellent customer service, friendly staff who gave us great tips for hiking and we’re always available for information.
Cons: More variety of food at breakfast such as some boiled or scrambled eggs and more fresh fruit. Our room was very dusty which made us cough a lot at night time. It may have been something else we reacted to but otherwise maybe the room had not been used in a while.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A nice balcony with a great view on the valley for breakfast. Transport was arranged (for a fee) at our arrival in Porto Novo to Aldeia Jerome.
Cons: It would be good to find a way to lock the window shutters in open position as sometimes they tend to make noise when it gets windy outside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Aldeia Jerome was great. Two minute walk from the sea, great view of the mountains from my terrace and the breakfast room. I could hear the sea at night. It was very clean and spacious. Great value and I would highly recommend it.
Cons: The only thing that would have been nice is maybe a smaller pot or kettle to boil water as I don’t like to buy plastic bottles. But I used the medium pot, so no problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful place. Great views. Great service.
Cons: -
7.9 Good
Pros: Room is spacious and although simply furnished it is nicely decorated. The garden is a nice and shady spot to relax after your hike. Staff is friendly and very willing to help even not speaking english.
Cons: The mattras cover was made out of plastic, very hygienic but not comfortable to sleep on with warm weather.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cosy room, with lots of color. Good breakfast on the very nice rooftop terras (bit windy, but with sweater perfect). Outside nice place to sit and read in green and quiet environment. We had a nice diner at a rooftop-restaurant called Maracuja. We heard Black Mamba has good food too.
Cons: Nothing of this accomodation. It was all great. Looking for a place NOT to eat... Just across entrance is a pizzeria, we had worse pizza ever ( just our opinion, maybe your stomach is stronger)

Pros: Top host, worldtraveller, he attracts nice guests. The food is really good. The inside terrace-room nice to read books and to play games.
Cons: Everything is fine, maybe a nice terras outside. The terrace is inside. And i like to have softer beds.(but most of the Kaap Verdien beds are not soft)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We appreciated the availability of Joel and Hudson who recommended us great trekkings to do in the Paul valley. They both provided us a very warm welcome and we really enjoyed the nice discussions we had on the evenings. The place is really well located (a lot of aluguers) and quiet. We really recommend this place !
Cons: Nothing!
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is in a beautiful location and is a good place to start hiking trips. The owner, Joel, was responsive and helpful when I asked questions prior to my arrival. The meals were tasty, and the hotel did a fantastic job accommodating my dietary restrictions. The hotel has plenty of books and board games to keep you occupied, and the WiFi in the main lobby is quite strong considering how remote the location is.
Cons: It would have been nice if the hotel had provided soap and shampoo in the rooms. The staff and owner seemed to be having some disagreements during the stay, including yelling and slamming doors over two days. I'm not sure what was going on, but meals, cleaning, and check-out didn't seem to be affected. It was just a bit awkward and uncomfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and the location is amazing. It’s right at the center of the best hiking routes of the island. A solid breakfast is included which gives good energy for a day of walking. They provide food all day round and everything is arranged. The stuff is very friendly and Hudson, one of the owners is always there to help or to talk. Thanks for the very nice time!
Cons: The disco blinking lights are cosy and makes the property easy to find at night, but a bit bright to the eyes at night when having dinner
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice people and owner. The location is fantastic, you can easily start your walk here or the accomodation will call you a colectivo. They serve a nice breakfast, will even get up earlier if you have to catch a boat. Owner is always up for a drink and a chat!
Cons: Only a little bit difficult that they don't have an entrance key for you. This means that if you get home late, you have to wake everyone up.
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Hotel Santantao Art Resort in Porto Novo, you'll be 21.6 mi (34.8 km) from Ribeira Grande Beach. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We booked again and again during our stay in Santo Antao (we hiked quite a lot and we could not always be in Porto Novo). This is the best hotel we had over 2 weeks in Cabo Verde: clean, nice, with nice services and good internet. The beds were awesomely comfortable: I had great nights of sleep! The bathroom was perfect and the water had always a good pressure and good temperature. The breakfast was also very nice, with very many choices. For the people who say that the staff did not speak other languages, I can say that only one person was able to speak french (beside Portuguese and Criollo) ... and this is a bit funny for a four stars hotel....however I would like to remind you that it's you traveling to another country so it's you that should be able to interact. And keep in mind where you are: you are in a country that is struggling to develop! So try to be patient (people are so kind in here!) and everything will be understood and fixed. Just close bye you will find nice restaurants. A great tip: a grill place a few steps away going toward the center, on your right: they have a nice grill and food was awesome! Two nice cats can visit you at the pool: I loved them, they were so sweet and beautiful!
Cons: Once we had dinner. It was nothing special... I preferred to eat outside the following nights. However having a restaurant inside is a great option.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast copious but normal for a "resort" The only smiling staff is at the breafast
Cons: The young receptionnist didn't find my reservation and almost scolded me. When she gave the key of the room I asked where is the room. She just showed me with her hand ....somewhere. While I was looking for my room I saw a cleaning staff sleeping on a chair in a room. Nobody speaks english. Nobody knows the trails No wifi in the rooms
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very tasty breakfast, really nice big room with a terrace overlooking the sea. The swimming pool area was nice. Last but not least, we arrived in the morning and got the room keys already!
Cons: Wifi was very slow and hardly working in the room, aircon in the room didn't work well
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s all about expectations. If you don’t expect anything, you get a real African hotel with nice garden and swimming pool, good hot showers and OK food. If you expect a for star resort, you might be disapointed a little bit, it’ more like a 3 star. We loved it more than the new and clean Tiduca hotel.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Clean bedding, one of the greatest restaurants on the island (Sabores Ratatui) is located just down the road when you escape from the hotel
Cons: Mostly unfriendly staff, old-fashioned equipment, air conditioning in disturbance, rather filthy bathroom and ground, broken head shower, average breakfast, pretty far from the harbour, this place is a fraud

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and spacious houses, very good breakfast and dinner. Host and staff very friendly. Good bed.
Cons: No hot water in shower. Breakfast room could use some cosy decoration, is kind of sterile. Everything else was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice stuffmembers. Give good infos. Very good food, also vegetarian dishes possible. No restaurants near by, so very pleased with lunch, dinner and breakfast! They organized a transfer for our luggage to ponte del sol since we hiked there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very silent place. Other buildings was far and this was the best, cause we could rest and enjoy silence. Owner is very friendly and speaks English. Other stuff also speaks English and try their best.
Cons: WiFi access was only near the window in one specific place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the spacious room and the location. You really hear and feel the ocean. We liked the breakfast. It was even possible to have breakfast at 6 in the morning. If you don't mind the walk, you can have diner one of the two small restaurants in Cruzinha. Got some good tips for hiking from the owner. You can do coastal walks or have nice walks into the mountains. Need a taxi? Just ask Ben.
Cons: Hygiene and cleaning should get more attention. There were only 4 chairs near the pool, that's not enough.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, friendly staff.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, just in the beginning/exit of a hiking trail. Very helpful and kind staff. And of course, the island itself is amazing.
Cons: It's far away from the city and other attractions, and a really windy place, with ferocious sea current. Although the stay is not expensive, the transportation and the food can consume your budget.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location and spacious, very clean rooms. Definitely worth it!
Cons: Dinner is a bit expensive and at a precise time, you cannot choose when to go.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The sea water pool, the buffet dinner, the cleanliness of the very spacious bungalow, the friendly stuff - one could say everything!!!
Cons: The water in the shower didn't get warm, but they explained us, it was solar powered only, that's why.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is rather remote, but awesome. It is one of the great flavors of Santo Antao. You can do great hikes around the hostel. People are very friendly, especially host Ben Dos Santos, a man with a very turbulent family history. From your bed you can see the see. Food is great, both breakfast and diner is a buffet, you can choose whatever you want.
6.0 Good
Pros: The area where hotel is located is very beautiful. Also the hotel itself is very nice, the huts itself are big and spacious. Pool is nice touch and you can enjoy the view of the sea or mountains.
Cons: The location is isolated but if you take Aluguar from Porto Novo to Ribeira Grande and from Ribeira to Cruzinha ( the hotel is 5 mins walk from there ) the way will cost for 2 people 15€ OR you can pay at the end of your stay 35€ for hotel transfer (1 way) , also it would be nice if we knew about 15€/pp for dinner -breakfast is included . All together it is really good if you use public transport and go for dinner to village next door and after enjoy the hotel amenities.

Vito is an amazing host, he’s interested history, culture, the place you are from, a true Italian in Cabo Verde :) Take the time, and get to know Vito, the person who’s running this place with his heart.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is perfect, you have to search a little bit to find it as it is not on the road. Breakfast is copious. It could do with some more cleaning, but nothing serious. The matras is hard. Pitty it is difficult to communicate with owner if you don't speak a romanic language. Super that he has a laminated map of the region.

Pros: The view is very nice. Guillaume the host was very gracious and helpful. The room was very spacious. The breakfasts in the morning were very nice and we really liked the space that Guillaume created.
Cons: It would be helpful if there were screens on the windows. We had a lot of mosquitos in the room. One of the beds didn't have a mosquito net and I had to sew the other mosquito net to keep it closed. It was a little bit further from town than we had imagined.
10.0 Excellent

They arranged someone to buy ferry tickets for us (no extra charge, so we did not need to go to Porto Novo), and our transport with aluguer to Porto Novo the last day. We were happy with our stay. Cons: More expensive than other hotels of similar standing in the island.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This charming guesthouse is situated in the greenest, lushest of the Sao Antao valleys with the most exquisite view east down the valley and it is like a home from home. Our host, Katalyn, made us feel so welcome from the start, we were travelling with our two boys of 7 and 9 years and she made our stay so easy and fun: from arranging transport, giving personal tips, cooking absolutely Delicious food, helping us to contact family and administering first aid! The rooms are delightful, colourful and clean, with excellent privacy. My 9 year old says “she was the best host I ever had and I feel like it’s home whenever I’m there. I would love to stay there no matter what the weather and it’s been my favourite hotel so far”. The location is excellent with easy access to ribiera grande, ponta do sol and lovely hikes from the doorstep.
Cons: Nothing, but be prepared for a steepish climb up to the guesthouse when you arrive (although your luggage will be carried for you!)

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner is a really nice person! The rooms and facilities were basic but exactly what a backpacker expects. The place itself is fantastic, with such a view, and close to numerous great trails... The food at the places's restaurant is a must try!
Cons: The wifi at the rooms is practically unavailable. But having a local sim card solves this problem.
6.0 Good
Pros: The location is nice with views over the mountains and close to different fantastic trekking routes. The owner is friendly and hade an open fire to warm us up after walking in cold weather.
Cons: One room has toilet/shower outside in separate building. Nights can be cold in the mountains and in the rooms especially if the weather conditions are bad.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The top of Cova is an amazing place... The bed is confortable. There is 3 rooms of 4 beds with a common outside terrasse. And a bathroom per room.
Cons: The owner of casa Cova is the same as biosfera amor do dia. He is not really nice and doesn’t really care about his customers. Once you’re up there you have no choice but drinking and eating at his place. It’s really expensive for what that is. It looks that this man is not really involved in the local life. He doesn’t speak Portuguese... No hot water in the shower.

Pros: Good location, short walk into town for some lovely restaurants by the sea, also a short walk to start the famous coastal trail, amazing breakfast!!!
Cons: WiFi was only accessible downstairs and not in the rooms, band were playing very loudly one evening right outside my window and couldn’t sleep, beds were a bit hard and staff couldn’t speak much English

Cons: WIFI strength to improve, the staff do not speak english
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location, clean rooms
Cons: Confusion regarding payment and room costs
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A good place for people that like to go for trekking. Nice staff that are always there to help you if you have questions about the hikes. Price quality is a 8,5!
Cons: The rooms are very clean but during our 5 nights stay the bathroom was not cleaned and we had to trow our towels on the floor if we wanted them to give us new ones.
2.0 Mediocre
Cons: They tried to make me pay for the tourist tax, even though it was clearly stated that it was included in the price. The receptionist called a superior and insisted, and only accepted the agreed (and writen price) when I threat to call the police.
10.0 Excellent

5.8 Okay
Pros: Location, food
Cons: - Staff doesn’t speak English - it’s stated here that chick in is open from 7 am, but when we came at 9 am they just told us “no” - wall are very thin, you here every noise inside and outside - bars are a disaster - you feel every spring in a mattress

Pros: Excellent team and location. Upper room HORIZON with private roof top balcony highly recommend. Very good breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A huge thanks to Guillaume, a great host who made our stay in Punta do Sol unforgettable. He knows all the nice walks to do in the area, and arranges the transport if needed. There is an exceptional terrasse on the roof, from where you can watch the fishermen come back with their boats full of fishes, and enjoy a romantic sundown. We were lucky to have the room on the last floor, next to the terrasse. The room in itself was wonderful, very spacious, with a lot of light and amazing views on the ocean. This is definitely the place to go if you are staying in Punta do Sol.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Big and nice room. Good breakfast. Good location
Cons: To have the possibility to pay by card
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful deluxe suite with cool design and amazing views. Yummy breakfast in cute interior garden. Good advice for tours.
Cons: Initial misunderstanding about booking led to complicated check-in, was clarified soon. Very tiny point: toilet paper rolls very small, leading to much renewal need.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice guest house with great staff. The location is great, rooms comfortable and sparkling clean. The overall feeling is welcoming and cosy.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Goed breakfast, and the owner was very cool about shortening our stay.
Cons: We were with two couples and booked a suite, thinking there would be enough room. The suite though was very disappointing. There is one bedroom with a double bed, for one couple. There is a kind of second bedroom, with glass walls, and only a single small bed. Then in the 'living room', where there are no chairs or couches to relax, there is a double bed (not really a bed, more a very uncomfortable matrass on something very hard). We couldn't really sleep in this last bed, since there is no curtain for the glass door in this room, so the entire hotel on the opposite side of the road can see you change. (Especially since there is only 1 big led lamp in the room). Also, it was the absolute most expensive accomodation so far, with the least comfort. Concluding: do not book the room if you are four adults or two couples, there are really only three bed that can be used for sleeping, if you want any kind of comfort. It will be much cheeper to book two double bedrooms anywhere else.

Pros: Pancakes were delicious :) The driver Day was very professional. Marlene (hostess) was an amazing guide what to do and don’t. Nice ocean breeze at night.
6.3 Good
Pros: Clean room and comfortable bed.
Cons: We were quoted £45 by booking.com, but charged £50 plus tax by the hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything. Family run guest house, view of the ocean, great breakfast with local poducts. Loved the village and the ocean front, even if it's not a swimming beach. Lots of games.
Cons: wifi didn't work in the room and I needed to get work done... everything else was great and comfortable like home.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Ponta do Sol is a very cute town in a great setting by the ocean and mountain (better than staying in Ribiera Grande). Casa D'Mar is in a good location, though, you can't really go wrong in such a small place. Nice breakfast. Liked that you could use the clothesline on the rooftop terrace. A collective taxi was arranged for us to return to Porto Novo for the ferry.
Cons: The wifi would not reach our ocean view room, even though the property is very small. It didn't seem quite as charming and welcoming as other reviewers suggest. Perhaps it was because the owners were away. The person who checked us in was still very nice and did her best to communicate with us in English.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was near perfect
Cons: It was near perfect
