Staff are overworked, underpaid, tired and grumpy. I stayed at the Oaks for 6 nights for a family wedding. The breakfast menu was limited, I had scrambled eggs one morning and the eggs tasted like rubber.. My husband politely asked if omelettes were available on the menu the first morning we were there and the grumpy chef just flatly replied no. One of my cousins who was staying there with her 12 month old boy was told it would cost $20 a day to use a high chair. On Sunday September 11th my husband and I had pizza from the restaurant for dinner. On top of the cost of the pizza we were also charged a public holiday surcharge. I am not aware of September 11th being a public holiday in Queensland. The staff did say the charge is for the weekend so if it’s for the weekend it should say Saturday surcharge or Sunday surcharge not public holiday surcharge which was $2.35. Lastly I was at the resort pool on Sunday trying to relax when all of a sudden a group of hotel staff started to use the pool whilst guests were using the pool. They were very loud so much so that my aunt left the pool because she couldn’t stand the noise. I just found that particularly odd that staff were allowed to use guest facilities. I have stayed in a lot of hotels over years and always had great experiences but for the first time ever I was actually happy to leave the Oaks to go home.
Cons. No WiFi, poor advertisement, as you cannot access it from the rooms...which makes planning excursions very difficult, touching base at work and keeping in touch with family back home impossible. $118 rate on the app and they charged us $159, as they stated they posted the wrong rate. Not our problem, will never stay here again or recommend it to anyone. Switched my hotels, as a co-worker suggested this place...never again! I am in hospitality-we would never treat guests like this back in the States/NYC.
