Pros: We liked the provisions that were made accessible to us ie crisps chocolate cool drinks and the breakfast choice was excellent.

There are no eating venues within comfortable walking distance so plan for a Taxi and research for a venue.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Cons: The light switches in the room were over complicated!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. I enjoy attention to detail and often the industrial look can come across a little cold and unwelcoming but the designers have got it just right! Plenty of pillows, lighting for every occasion and multiple mirror types. The dressing area in a cabinet was a nice additional touch, along with the bifold doors for the patio. I'm glad the kitchen appliances were hidden behind doors whilst not in use, as it helps to relax your eye from clutter. If we are in the area again, we won't consider anywhere else.
Cons: Staff were a little overbearing in the attached restaurant. I personally found the bed a little hard, though I often do and still slept very well.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good parking, beautiful grounds, impressive building. Lovely quiet, clean room. Food was outstanding, had lunch in the bar area, dinner and breakfast in the orangery. Would stay again but in the main hotel if possible.
Cons: Nothing much. The shower was over bath instead of a shower stall, but it was hot and worked well. The room was in an extension, a very short walk from main hotel, this made the stay a bit isolated and we got wet in the morning going for breakfast in a downpour.

Cons: When I first checked in a got given a room that hadn’t even been cleaned at all. Tried to get in touch with reception took a while. 9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel, very friendly staff. Rooms are of good size. Bar and restaurants are reasonably priced, we spent a lot of time in the bar! ;-) Spa options available for an extra fee. Didn't use those, so can't rate those.
Cons: Nothing the hotel can do about this, but the village itself is very tiny. Besides the hotel there is just 1 other bar and 1 restaurant, so for activities you need to leave the village. Was there for a wedding, so didn't matter for our group, however others might want to keep this in mind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I visited some thirty-five years or so ago and vowed at the time that I would return during a future visit to England. It may have had its ups and downs over the years but to me it's still got the same ambience, friendliness and get-up-and-go I remember.
Cons: The weather! Ye Olde Bell, however, provided warmth and happiness, despite the cold and Toprain.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The fabulous decor and overall ambience of the hotel and very friendly staff.
Cons: There was not anything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff. Room nice side breakfast lots to choose from.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The evening meal was delicious especially the scallops
Cons: Nothing really but we should have asked for a disabled room our fault entirely. The stairs were quite difficult
10.0 Excellent
Cons: only fault for me was the wifi in my room just did not connect for more then a minute at a time, which was very frustrating. They did check router and found no fault, however the issue was still there in the morning :-( Other than the above it was a very comfortable stay and would recommend
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great welcome on my husband's birthday. Suite was lovely, great dinner and breakfast. Thank you!
7.5 Good
Pros: Excellent food and service.
Cons: Expensive for hotel residents to use spa! £35 for 2 hours!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After getting married here last summer, I booked a full day at the spa with an overnight stay for our first wedding anniversary. Everything was just absolutely incredible from the moment we arrived at the spa. The spa was so impressively luxurious and the hotel along with the staff, were as welcoming as ever. Thank you Ye Olde Bell for making our anniversary so special.

Pros: Good value for money
Cons: I had to clean the shower head and wash the mugs before I could use them
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location Clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was nice and helpful
Cons: None.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was a wonderfully quirky room with 3 huge windows with leaded lights! It was spacious enough but we hadn't expected a fridge, sink and kitchen table with chairs! The best thing was the American diner downstairs where we ate very well indeed! The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: No breakfast was available, which took us by surprise, especially as they had breakfast menus in the diner. We had two access routes which was helpful, but the carpeted stairs need a good clean. The windows had Venetian blinds, but these did not exclude all the light from the streetlights right outside.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was a good size for 2 people and a large dog. It was good having a kitchen area with fridge.
Cons: The mattresses probably were a bit old and it would have been nice to be able to open the windows but there was air conditioning so we didn’t get too hot.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Convenient location for our visit to Retford
Cons: The bed and pillows were not comfortable so neither my husband nor I slept much. It was very noisy as the nearby pubs closed so not sure whether there is double glazing at Number Four - we couldn't help but hear numerous disagreements between various people after their time at the pubs, which made trying to get to sleep even more of a challenge. I'm glad we were only staying for one-night, sorry :-/
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, the acceptance of dogs, clean tidy and very presentable modern look.
Cons: The fridge was not very good quite noisy at night, and the shower head was dripping when put in it's upright holder. However none of that was a deal breaker.
6.3 Good
Pros: The young lady who checked us in was actually one of the bar staff in the premises below the accommodation, could not have been more pleasant or helpful in dealing with our problems with the room . The place's location in town, and Retford it's self was OK and the actual room we ended up with was reasonably clean & would not have been too bad for the price , had it not been for other issues .
Cons: Check in time of 5PM was a bit late . First room had soaked towels on the floor beside the bed collecting water still leaking from an air /con unit above, Given another room eventually , acceptable , but had fire door with wired glass panel allowing light in from, the landing all night also the fire escape illumination light inside the room also on all night . Appeared there was no staff on site after the bar shut ? Between 1 AM and 4.15 AM doors constantly slamming, people with loud voices running up & down stairs from room to room knocking on doors etc . Thanks to the girl from behind the bar who courteously dealt with the original room problems as best she could , we'd have been happy enough . However , after a long day , all we needed was a good sleep , but in the end even that was not possible .
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Felt homely and comfortable. Staff in the Diner were extremely helpful (one found us a bedside light because the wall light cord had snapped off and it was Saturday). Also very friendly.
Cons: Beeing picky...felt that sheet would have looked better if it had been ironed.
The Elms Hotel - Retford - Building
9
6.6 Good (406 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Retford, The Elms Hotel is within a 5-minute drive of Bassetlaw Museum and Idle Valley Nature Reserve. Planning an event in Retford? This hotel has facilities measuring 2659 square feet (247 square meters), including conference space. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfy, good location
Cons: An extra £20 for checking in an hour earlier seems a bit steep The stable blocks have no acoustic insulation - you can hear everything upstairs, and I wouldn't want to stay in winter!
6.8 Good
Pros: The garden area
Cons: Struggled with the taps to get water. Ended up having a bath because the shower cord was to short to fit into holder. The hotel is under new management and atmosphere not very good
4.5 Okay
Pros: Cleanliness of room
Cons: Hotel generally in desperate need of a make over..grounds covered with litter discarded remains of meals, bedroom dark and dingy ,bath leaked when shower used, able to hear guests walking in rooms above are just a few examples.Little or no pride shown for hotel which in the past had a good reputation and has potential to be again with major investment in staff and buildings.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The bed was firm and the bedding was clean. Tea and coffee making facilities were good. The location of the hotel was good.
Cons: The room needed some serious tlc, like the paint was flaking of the walls and doorframes. The carpet was grey and worn. The room was noisy from the occupants above us. The breakfast was burnt and tasteless with no toast offered or provided.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcome
Cons: Noise from an event ad people shouting at 4am, severally guest told them to be quite.
6.8 Good
Pros: Bed was good and a good size room
Cons: No bath mat you had to get one from management. Room should have had one. No bed side light. Room needs decorating. Very hot room window would not stay open
6.3 Good
Pros: Location fine, ground floor room as I requested. Bed comfortable, room clean. Tea and coffee facilities available. Beautiful looking building which clearly needs money spent on it for redecoration and upgrading.
Cons: Stayed several days, went over for breakfast on the first morning. No staff around. Some cereal and croissants set out on a table. Hot water in a large flask. Tea bags on table. No means of ordering anything hot. Never bothered to go over there again. Very unwelcoming atmosphere. Lighting in room very poor, lights not working and not been fixed. Extremely noisy fan in bathroom. Despite the leaflet in the room saying "free toiletries" this consisted of a container of hand soap fixed to the wall, from which I found it impossible to extract any soap.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: The room still had the previous guests dirty bedsheets left in a corner of the room. The food was disgusting (the fish was rock hard) the service was appalling. We were left waiting ages until we had to ask to be served. The hotel room was dark and murky and I didn’t feel safe. Staff were unprofessional and we couldn’t wait to leave.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was plentiful, but as with all their food, a deep fat fryer was used as much as possible, and the fat or oil must have been very old and affected the food taste, burnt and dirty.
Cons: Everything. The room had had a leak through the ceiling with the paper hanging off. The shower was unfit for purpose. The window would not stay open.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Where it is located you don’t really excepted it to be as good as what it is very very nice surprise loved it would definitely stay again!
Cons: Few more sugars for tea haha really couldn’t pick fault
