Was a great experience! The staffs are so nice and the hostel is very good!
I stayed here for 9 days during November for Iceland Airwaves music festival. I stayed in a room with 12 beds in and it exceeded my expectations and was good value for money. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bedrooms were warm and quiet. The hostel had everything I needed. The toilet and shower facilities were very good and clean the water was always warm for a shower. They had a complete kitchen with lots of appliances to make your own food which was good because food in resturants in Iceland can be quite expensive, the 24 hour shop over the road was excellent as was the supermarket further down the road. The hostel also had a bar with reasonably priced pints and a happy hour, the resturant was good and the lounge area on the ground floor very relaxed, socialable and comfortable. The entire hostel had a very good homely feel to it. The staff were friendly, approachable and answered all my questions that needed answering and had a good knowledge of the local area and things to do in Reykjavik. The location of it was amazing too. It is on the main shopping street but in a slightly quieter end, it is by Hlemmur Square bus station and the hostel itself was a pick up point for my tour of the Golden Circle and Northern Lights was good for the early rise. It isn't too far from the BSI Bus Stop and the city centre location makes it close to bars and resturants, tourist attractions and the bay. I would happily stay at this hostel again and would reccomend it to anyone travelling to Iceland.
It was not my first time at Hlemmur. The place is comfy, rooms are large and the kitchen very useful, plus is walking distance from every relevant place in Reykjavik, and just in front of the bus stop for all lines to visit South / West. And Baronstigur geothermal pool it's 10 minutes walk. It's very good that they have free coffee all over the night, plus many interesting events for locals too. I also tried the breakfast too and is exceptional for the price. I would return again, especially at the very good bargain deal I got!
Just some more attention to guests kitchen's please. Some utensils are missing (a pasta drainer, a proper can opener) and the fridge is not enough for everyone to store.
I wasn't happy in this hostel because of temperature in the room and uncomfortable access to the upper bed but Hlemmur Square did EVERYTHING to me to feel better and I really appreciate that. + Price + Location + WiFi + Staff
- Bathrooms - Plugs - Dirty fridges, but it's common in hostels
Had a bed in a 10 bed dorm room. Clean, ok kitchen area. Really nice lobby and lounge area. Good place to stay for a night or two and inexpensive.
No parking but you can park on the road for free in the evening and over night. Shower rooms and bathrooms could probably be cleaned more often for the amount of people staying but it was adequate.
