Radisson Blu Saga Hotel is a superbly equipped four-star hotel, located within walking distance of Reykjavik´s city centre. The hotel offers first-class accommodation, a tempting choice of top class restaurants and exceptional meeting facilities.
The service is great, along with it being easily accessible to the area without being right in downtown/touristy area. View is pretty nice of the city from afar too. We enjoyed the hotel for 4 days while doing day trips around the ring road then walking to the nightlife or hotel bar in the evenings. The staff is pretty accommodating to any needs - the bartending staff had a real knowledge of the area and great tips. I would maybe stay here again, but bring my own pillows next time.
It is a bit outdated in terms of decor - but the real issue is the pillows. There was nothing to them and it left us with terrible neck strain. Wifi didn't work in our 6th floor room, but they tried to accommodate by placing a hotspot nearby - yet removed it before the end of our stay.
Staff was great. Good location but a 15 min walk to the city center with its shops and eateries.
Rooms were "used" at best. A lot of wear and tear and small holes and dents in walls and doorways. Some non functioning amenities and even issues with one of the elevator banks.
- Great price - 10 minute walk to downtown - Good breakfast - Good wifi
- Very worn linens and furniture - Bed was not the most comfortable
The room was super clean, had many amenities and was well appointed (bathrobe, slippers, plenty of towels, a safe, cable Tv and radio, Wifi, some complimentary toiletries, coffee &coffee maker, cork screw, many lamps, great system of curtains, bath tub and shower, etc.). The hotel itself also had many amenities: there are three dining options there ( award winning restaurant, moderate restaurant, and bar fare), a spa and hairdresser in the basement, a bar/lounge with happy hour, a polite and helpful staff, a tourist shop, etc.
The rooms we stayed in were clean and well-kept, the staff was very courteous and the location is ideal. If you're not afraid of a little walking (or if you're from NYC and think nothing of it) then you'll be pleased by how quickly you can get to the city center without using the buses or the very expensive cabs. The view was lovely and the restaurant on the ground floor was a very enjoyable meal and reasonably priced compared to the normal Icelandic fare. We stayed at the hotel for slightly more than a week and used it as a staging point for a variety of tours. I mention this because it seems like a fairly common practice here, and tour drivers will actually come into the lobby and collect you. In our case one of the tours was cancelled and the hotel staff handled all the logistics for rescheduling it. Our reservation came with access to their daily breakfast buffet, which is quite large and served as a great meal to get us started before our tours.
Like many homes and hotels in iceland, this building gets its hot water directly from a hot water system below ground. There are some places you might stay that get their hot water from a local geothermal plant. This is not one of them. This means that the Saga's hot water has a slight sulfur smell to it. It's perfectly safe and even drinkable, but the taste and the smell is not pleasant. Knowing this ahead of time would not have made me cancel my reservation, but I think this kind of thing is good to know before you arrive. Laundry is expensive. I sent down about two weeks' worth of Tshirts, socks, and underwear for a single person and it ran about 70 USD. We would still rather have used the local laundry than packing twice as many clothes, but that price stings a bit, especially for simple cotton garments.
Breakfast buffet included with room. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Free parking.
Quiet but central for our purposes.
Room temperature was too warm at times.
A close to the downtown. A silent location. Free parking. Friendly receptionists.
No value for money (too expensive as compared to the quality): The room was very dusty when we arrived. It was obvious that it was not cleaned for a long time. I was not cleaned although we put a sign "Clean the room". A bed was just made and the room was still dusty. Obviously the hotel does not want do this properly since everybody can see dust - cleaners and their superiors just ignore the quality. Another problem was that there is no ventilation in a room - an open window helps a little bit, but not much. Also no more shampoo was given for the 2nd day.
Super friendly staff
Would love to see swimming faclities added to the property
The Staff was very helpful in directing me to and around the city as I was a first time visitor to the city . Overall a very good place to stay..
Hotel staff was very helpful.
