Gourmey food comfort countryside setting
Room in stable block had lots of character. Breakfast was good value and wide choice. The walk from the room to the hotel was not covered so got wet when it rained.
The friendly welcome on arrival. All the staff made us very welcome and ensured our stay was enjoyable. Excellent service from staff. The gardens and house are a very attractive feature, you really cannot stay here without a walk around the grounds. A great pleasure to sit on the terrace to take in the tranquality and calm of such a magnificant house. A true delight.
The shower was not working properly
service location rooms getting a bit tired needs a lick of paint and refurbish
Everything was fabulous could not fault fabulous breakfast shall def stay again. A little disappointed we were part of a wedding party and paid £30 more than other guests.
the room was very unclean, returning after an evening out we closed the curtains to find months worth of dust. There were also ants in the room, the staff seemed unconcerned and said nothing they could do until morning. Eventually after refusing to stay in the room we were moved to an alternative room. Staff attitude was poor we arrived at the hotel and the receptionist asked what we wanted looking at us as though we shouldnt be there - we were dressed in casual clothes - am sure she was not trained to judge guests on their appearance, as soon as she was aware we had a reservation she was all smiles - too late.
Brownsover Hall is an impressive building in a Gothic style set in lovely country gardens. Many original features remain in the Hall also in the stables which have been converted to guest accommodation. The staff are freindly & helpful & the food in the restaurant was excellent. This hotel has a wonderful atmosphere of days gone by. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. No
enormous bedroom, fantastic old hotel, nice modern bathroom bit small compared to the size of the bedroom The standard of cleaning was poor, room had not even been vacuumed and mirrors and side tables dusty
Dining room was empty and very cold. No log fires as advertised and very little atmosphere. Basic food.
convinient central location no
Easy access to City Centre, breakfast excellent, efficient polite staff No hotel parking
The size of the room. Doors and frames needed replacing .Also around the bath the sealant needed replacing.
In City Centre The shabbiness of the room, and ill fitting, matress and duvet to bed base.
Leaving Website states Carpark, there is no carpark at the hotel, I had to use a pay and display 6 minutes walk away. Room was very poorly maintained. No vending machine in operation so could not get a snack on arrival at 11pm. Breakfast was luke warm, just passable but not worth the £10 charged
The free tea and coffee and the trouser press. The odd stain on the carpet and the increased security on the hotel room door did not seem to work
The convenience of being in the City Centre and not being that far from our function. The hotel was excellent in all categories
the fact that it was in the town centre and near the bus station which made it easy for me to my business. Nice large room and a good breakfast to start the day.
nothing The quality of this hotel was very poor, its badly needs modernising, the heating did not work and the food was poor.
Very close to shops and services - within 5 minutes walk of the main shopping area. Had no key for my room so I had to be let in by hotel staff each time. Got held up at reception as somebody was being quite forthright in asking for rooms to be swapped around. As I was the only other person waiting I feel I should have been served first so that the receptionist could go back to the more complicated complaint. Lift was broken and kept stopping on floor 5. Windows are complicated which could be an issue in summer.
Excellent pub, great food, lovely staff. The room was very comfortable and quiet. It was everything we hoped it would be. No bad points
Room comfort and food
Friendly greeting, very clean and cosy rooms. Very nicely decorated Dissapointed with choice of evening meal menu, and considering they had won an award , the food was not that good.
Friendly service, excellent food, fair value.
Fantastic hospitality and friendliness from all staff. Always really welcoming and feel like friends. Lovely pub atmosphere with good quality, clean rooms and bathrooms etc.
Very good lighting , modern room Arriving @ 1600hrs the room was very cold reported to reception told it was on timer would come on around 1700hrs radiator in bathroom no working had to tune in tv
Excellent accommodation, bar and food None
having to go outside to get to the dining area side entrance should be covered
The staff are very friendly which to be honest is one of the key points for a hotel. We had a twin room, that when adding a z-bed for a child made it a little squeezed !!!
Friendly Staff, Very clean and the bed was very large Could have done with more milk in the room and perhaps larger cups
The hotel staff were extremely efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, the hotel is an exceptional location and eventhough it was a busy weekend the hotel was peaceful and relaxed.
Excellent service from helpful and experienced staff, feature rooms with period furniture were a delight, good choice of food well prepared, and beautiful, well kept gardens.
Beautiful old Abbey, with decor consistent with old english style. Staff were exceptional Could do with a better hot water system
It was such a different hotel experince and very intersting from a historical perspective- great price at off peak rates wonderfully quiet, tranquil, excellent food and the staff made you feel very special. A great place to go with a few friends to get away and relax in style. You really need to have a rental car so you can drive around and explore the other areas like Warwick castle
The setting of this hotel is really special. Located adjacent to a beautiful park with nice walks and woodland it is a great place for spending time relaxing. For me, the darkened medieval atmosphere and interesting decoration is what sets it apart. At £170 for the night, it was the most expensive hotel I've stayed at. But, other than its unique setting and interesting decor, it certainly didn't offer anything else as outstanding as the price. Service was very basic. For instance, no-one to show you to the room, certainly no help to carry your bags. No indication either at check-in or on the paperwork that check-out is 11.00am. Breakfast was included, but as it finished too early for me at 10.00 am this was not sampled. Also, there was pressure to throw me out of the room at 11.00am as this is their (too early) check-out time. Perhaps a visit to the far East for the staff would educate them in the standards that are now expected by international travellers.
The most wonderful hotel we have ever stayed in. Just beautiful. The bill was wrong when first issued. This was corrected very quickly.
The unique nature of the hotel and the staff who were excellent. It was exceptional value for money as well. I will certainly stay there again
My stay was very comfortable and relaxed enhanced by the atmosphere and setting of the abbey's history. Most enjoyable and will visit again when opportunity allows.
The atmosphere and surroundings, and also the peace and tranquility
Very atmospheric - loved the 'Ancient' decor! Much too dark - couldn't see to read in the bedrooms and quite often got lost in the corridors - very confusing in an emergency!
The hotel was convienient for my meeting in coventry, the receptionist was helpful & quick with booking me in, I had to change my room as the first room I was put into smelt damp & musty, the guests in the next room decided to use their jaquzzi bath at 1am in the morning and the noise was horrendous so had very little sleep The was a large que for breakfast -so i had to leave without as I would have missed my meeting if I had stayed in the que
the overall experience was great. Fantastic value for money. Staff friendly and informative. Breakfast was enjoyable and plenty off it. All in all 10 out of 10! Nothing!
receptionist (an Irish lad) was very helpful and extremely efficient. He was an excellent frnt man for the hotel.
beautiful grounds, large room indifferent check in staff
The food, the staff see above
the breakfast's were very good and very good value for money bathroom was very dirty
Needed to have some paper work faxed to a customer, not a problem, will do that for you was the reply I got from the front desk, well done I would look at what's on offer food wise, people don't mind paying a bit extra for a larger menue.
That it was within easy reach of Birmingham NEC without being in the city. Pleasant surroundings, neatly tucked away from the road. The toilet paper was very cheap and nasty. Something you would expect in a public toilet not a hotel. Breakfast if paid for at the hotel, too expensive. Would book online next time!
The breakfast was good. The staff had no time for you.
Good staff on reception and in breakfast room Room was a bit cold - had to ask for a heater. Toiled for a long time to get internet access - when I queried with reception they said they had to "release" access - which was annoying as I wasted time trying to resolve. Would have been useful if there had been a notice in the room to this effect.
From the second you set foot through the doors into the foyer, there was a great warmh of welcome as well as a very high standard of cleanliness and attention to detail on the interior design.
Fine,it is good and the service is fine .the only problem is it is too cold inside the room, even if turn the air conditioner to 30degree
Nice place and centrally located Room wasn't very warm
The whole experience was brilliant at a brilliant price too
Friendly staff Difficult to struggle through the dorrs from the car park with suitcase, brief case, laptop and handbag!
Room was excellent Restauant was fully booked in the evening although plenty of takeout places to choosee from. The staff were really slow in the morning at breakfast too ordered a coffee and then sat there for 10 mins with no one explaining it was self-service and then not knowing how to charge the bill to my room account. Was in a hurry, so really annoying
The hotel was easy to get to. The room and bed were comfortable. The breakfast buffet was of a very high quality, it's not often that hotel breakfasts are worth the money but this one was. The room had not been vacuumed before I arrived. The room was too hot when I arrived and the air conditioning was set to be 'centrally controlled' so I couldn't change it.
very friendly and helpful staff, central location
Staff helpful and discrete Hotel was cold in places at times toilets on first floor were rather lonely, seemed strange that none on ground floor
value for money the staff were very good and helpfull. room was clean food was good close to shops.
Hardworking and helpful staff tv channels werent programmed, shower wasnt very good, no car park.
Very pleasant stay in centre of historic town.
Easy to find. Good location for town centre No Parking (free)
The friendliness of the staff and how helpful they were My girlfriends mood swings
Central location Lack of car parking for guests. The hotel seemed overpriced for the standard of accommodation on offer.
Bar, outside seating area and general location. Room was cramped, shabby and didn't seem clean.
The warmth and friendliness of the hotel and staff
Location is great Old place and very small rooms
Their hospitality, friendliness and willingess to go out of their way to help us. The staff were fantastic and really were accommodating and we didn't feel like we were being rushed to check out in the morning which allowed us to have a nice relaxed start to the day.
The location and setting of the hotel was superb. The room was very spacious and clean. The restaurant had a wonderful ambience and a good selection of food on the menu. Sitting outside, enjoying a drink, on the decking area by the river was very pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend the hotel to anybody looking for a quiet relaxing break.
We loved everything about it, the food, beer and service was excellent. the room was clean and the location is very good for the Birmingham NEC which was the reason why we stayed at The Old Mill. The pub has loads of character as well. We would definitely stay there again There was nothing that we didn't like about it
Size of room, location of hotel, very comfortable
Staff very friendly and nice bar/restaurant Noisy central heating system
Excellent service from all staff. Excellent food and restaurant facilities. Excellent ambience in bar and restaurant area. Spacious room layout. Free wifi and excellent car parking facilities. Felt safe as a single female guest. External light close to the window and only a thin blind meant that the room remained relatively light all night making it difficult to sleep. Pillows thin, hard and uncomfortable. Shower would not fully turn off and could be heard dripping all night - again making it difficult to sleep.
Staff were very helpful The food, to be avoided at all costs. My partner was served mashed potato that was still frozen.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, big rooms. The room could have had a bit more lighting,
very quiet and romantic hotel to stay at stairs going to the rooms were very squeaky late at night
friendliness of staff also beside river location shower facilities were "tired" and need refurbishing
Service and Comfort
The meals were good. Unpleasant smell in corridor and room.
The only thing we enjoyed was that the barman had made us feel very welcome. Would not recommend this hotel. They got the wrong day for the booking and did not have a room ready. When we got back in the evening they had lost the key. The breakfast was inedible and greasy.
The convenient location was great and the bed was wonderfully comfortable and we always felt well rested. The room was very spacious and the hotel is in a quiet position which was much appreciated.
A lingering smell of curry, I do not like curry!!
closeness to town The bedroom windows had black mould on them; stairs very narrow (tread depth and width).
the facility of room service and the food was very nice. room was very small and at the top of the house. Central heating pipes were unbelievably noisy all through the night. The matress was far too hard.Bathroom was clean but shabby, couldn't stand up in shower.
the fact that it was easy to locate and was a short walk from the train station Bed was not made up upon first entering the room; magazine left in room from previous occupant; shower took 5-minutes to heat up and even then water not very hot; heating radiators would not work; no battery in TV remote
The evening meal was tasty and well prepared. The room was small and cramped. I tried putting my laptop on the desk and had to move other things off it to fit. The most infuriating thing was the fact that there was no hot water in the morning when I wanted to shower!!! The hot and cold taps gave off the same temperature despite running it for 10 minutes.
I arrived at 20.30 and left before 08.30 the following morning, when straight out, only returning to sleep. The Bathroom was grubby.I arrived at 20.30 and left before 08.30 the following morning, when straight out, only returning to sleep. So i cant comment further.
the character of the building. was dissapointed that the room pictured on the website was not a true indication of the room i actually got. although quite adequate it fell far below the standard of decor and comfort pictured at the time of booking
A very pleasent stay, comfy, clean room and great breakfast. Loads of free parking on site.
Staff attentiveness No
Staff were very friendly and helpful, food was very good and plentiful and accomodation was spotlessly clean.
close to where we wanted to see yes the table clothes were dirty
Family run -- staff excellent and very caring. No concerns about safety or security. Excellent parking.
My room (room"H") was lovely. There was a nice big double shower which had recently been fitted and was really clean. My colleague was staying in the room adjacent to room "H" which was not in the class of my room and had an interesting window at groin height in the shower :-/ The decor is a little dated but perfectly acceptable
Clean, comfortable and overall, good value for money.
Well prepared room, warm and comfortable. Good choice of cooked items at breakfast, convenient to my client's premises.
large room, simple but nice cooked breakfast The bedroom was freezing cold - I had to ask for a small heater that did very little. The tv remote was sticky and dirty. The bed felt very cheap and 'springy'.
onlystayed 1 night, but enjoyed the hotel on all fronts. The owner was talkative and a good laugh.Breakfast was enjoyable and vairied, and would definately stay there again. no
The price. Solely the price. There is nothing about this hotel to recommend it. Actually - the barman - really polite and friendly - and proactive at getting sales Check in. The woman saw me walking toward her, and then turned to another member of staff and she asked about some DVDs he was supposed to be getting her. After they finished she turned to me. Despite me introduicing myself, she asked my name for her notes, and then called me Sir throughout, instead of my name. When I called from my room for an iron she said "What?" I asked if she just said "What?" And her reply was "Sorry, didnt hear you." The room s are like staying in an elderly relatives spare room
not a lot the food in general and the rooms are dated with the bathroom needing acomplete overhall
Good Value for money untidy car park
Good value and service
staff were friendly
The bed was comfortable TV was not great and wasn't freeview
Easy parking, very clean, friendly staff, The restaurant was very small conscidering the amount of rooms,,as there was a load of coaches the restaurant was working on a shift basis and I was asked to come back later ( I was famished)..I ended up going to the local Harvester about 5 minutes away which was excellent and very cheep...probably better than the restaurant.
Not a lot The reception staff very unfriendly. Unable to charge items to my room as I had a debit card, I had to pay for things as I went along. They could not find a room service menu. The price of a glass of lemonade was £1.35!!!!!!!. Very noisy on the A45. I left a menu card out for my breakfast, instead of my breakfast I received a note telling me the price I paid did not include breakfast, so if I really wanted it, I had to telephone and let them know.
The staff were extremely helpful & friendly nothing was to much trouble the matress on my bed was an unbelievable experience just like being in a tree that would not stop moving I am sure all the springs that were covered with a thin piece of cotton were not joined together the whole thing just quivered I was terrified to lay down in case I fell out
Caterig staff were very friendly The hotel looked tired and in need of refurbishment. The window in my room would not shut properly
everything was like i would of expected it to be
Polite Staff and fast room service which provided hot food. lack of smoking rooms even though booking.com gives you this option.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very quiet despite the central location (traffic/promximity to local bars).
The staff are very friendly and professional Not all of the rooms are of the same level of comfort and quality however the staff are responsive to issues raised and are happy to move you to another one
clean and friendly poor view from room
The decor, comfortable bed and sky tv. The taxi firm the staff used was more expensive than the one we used to get back to the hotel.
Waiting staff at breakfast were very nice and efficient The hotel had no room service or dining facilities to offer, this was not advertised on the website at the time of booking. The room was at best fair, dirty walls and stained bed linen. The lobby area had peeling wallpaper and appeared generally unclean. I have stayed in many hotels and this was at best pretty poor in comparison. I would rate this hotel as a 2 star.
I did not like the fact that one of the rooms I booked was upgraded and had the same style room as we had and paid less. Also there were no robes in the room as stipulated.
The Leisure facilities and sauna were superb, very clean, with the staff being most helpful. The pool was really good. The reception staff were also very helpful in sorting out a colleague at their sister hotel nearby
Altho very near centre of Coventry, one would have thought you were in the country. Very friendly staff, fantastic Leisure centre and pool, choice of a restaurant or Cellar bar for food & drinks, very reasonably priced.
Good environment and nice golf pitch. I found a spider on my bed.
Good hotel and good clean room and breakfast nice. I was asked for extra £20 pounds when arriving but it said on website all fees and service charges were included in the room charge but I got it sorted out by a member of my party.
The facilities were ok for the price...ie.Bar / Breakfast. and the hotel is fairly close to the NEC. The hotel staff in the Bar /Front Desk/Restaurant seemed bored and demotivated. There didn't seem to be many people staying at the hotel, so it seemed the were doing 'the minimum'
Great hotel and leisure club just wished i'd stayed longer to use them ! comfortable clean beds and towels breakfast was great and lots of it, would certainly stay again.had an event at the Motorcycle Museum which was really close. None
We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable, it suited all of our needs, and the food was really good, if a little too 'arty' for our tastes.
Due to our experience there was nothing to like apart from the view from the room. Bedspread in room 219 had holes. Went to Cellar Bar late pm prior to dinner - bar was full of 'gents' and very rowdy - eventually gave up and went upstairs with our drinks. Went to dinner to discover that myself and friend were the only females in the restaurant. Although only 7.45pm restaurant very loud as golf parties and stag do's in already - as obviously been drinking 'all afternoon' there behaviour was not suitable to being in a restaurant. Menu disappointing as it had half of the choices on it that the web site gave. Food poor quality - only canteen standard as obviously used to being 'churned' out in high volume for golfers and stags. Trouble in Cellar Bar late at night - drunk tried to intice husband into a fight.
The swimming pool was very good and the man opened it up especially for me as they had listed the opening times wrong. The restaurant had very little menu choice. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. The staff failed to make my wake up call making me late for attendance on our stand at a show at the nec. Not very happy. Was booked for two nights, only stayed the one!
the swimming pool and facilities
Very friendly welcome - in fact all staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. A very minor quibble is that the bar didn't open until 6.30. The TV was very small but otherwise, no negatives.
quality of food in the restuarant
Excellent food, helpful staff Rooms were tired, poorly maintained, and in need of a refurb.
Reception and dining room staff were friendly and helpful. This is 2nd time I have stayed as it's convenient for the NEC. It's quiet, easy access to M42, Birmingham airport. I shall stay again.
Meal was very good Thin walled rooms, noisy when there are a lot of people staying
The friendliness of the staff
Nice breakfast and the hotel was clean The bed matress needed to be changed as we both kept rolling to the center of it over night. The bathroom was very clean but I found the tops of the bedroom furniture were dusty.
The location was perfect for the NEC The temperature of the hotel, the room was very hot even when we turned the radiator off in the bedroom, we could not regulate the bathroom radiator. It was a bit uncomfortable
Convenience of position Bed not comfortable
Superb room and facilities, would recommend the restaurant.
Absolutely superb idea mixing the hotel with a Loch Fyne restaurant. Excellent evening meal and superb kippers for breakfast. Couldn't believe some people were having bacon and eggs! Can't think of any.
Excellent room, clean, comfortable. Modern but plenty of character. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent food, dinner and breakfast. Not enough milk with tea-making kit. Motion detector in bathroom needs to be more sensitive to prevent blackouts. Don't need "muzak" at breakfast!
Great on-site restaurant Parking behind hotel is difficult to find on arrival and has narrow spaces
The hotel is ideally situated for my needs. It is pleasant, comfortable and quiet. Only a small point but it would be nice to be able to switch off the bedside lamp with a switch on the lamp rather than having to reach through the bedside table and switch off the power from the socket.
Comfortable bed, good breakfast.
The superb resraurant with excellent service and value I have none
We stayed here when dropping our son off at Warwick Uni. Very convenient for uni, and nice part of the world. Hotel is small but rooms are clean and well designed and restaurant is good. Particularly found the staff professional and relaxed. A good team. We have already booked our return.
High quality feel to the room, quality textiles and linen. Excellent bed. Food first class. Will definately stay again. Although my room was beutifully finnished it was rather small - room 26. Brealfast service a little casual.
Beautiful characteristic building, clean modern bedrooms, polite and helpful staff, great seafood restaurant, very close to Kenilworth Castle, close to many other great bars, restaurants and pubs. I eventually had to leave.
My room was lovely - spacious and airy and the air conditioning was a Godsend! I was disappointed with the bar staff. I had a drink, moved away from the bar and then returned around an hour later. Unfortunately, my dirty crockery from earlier had still not been cleared away! And the barman was stood behind the bar with no other customers and nothing to do!
catering was good n/a
stayed on 3rd floor; room was clean, bed uncomfortable and carpets were dirty; not the usual high standards we are use to here
Value for money as we booked through a last minute website and with today's prices for hotels of this calibre, we thought it good value. Nothing. All fine (apart from a rowdy party taking place on the Saturday evening!)
The location was excellent. Hotel was very in every for a hilton Very bad smell through the hotel.. Very dated in every way.
the retail close by some things
The hotel is in a quiet location, but well connected and close to the main roads. The facilities are modern and well maintained.
The standards of the rooms. The price of car parking.
The hotel staff were extremely helpful with any queries and they very very friendly.
thee relaxed atmosphere
Breakfast & Dinner very good Good hairdryer in useful position No drawers in room
This hotel amazed me and my friend when we stayed for one night. The facillities were more like a 5* rating, very large room with large plasma tv's. We spent afew hour in the spa to relax, afew drinks by the fire in the bar and found that the buffet breakfast was fantastic. We will certainly be booking here again for next year the room price was unbeatable in the area. nothing at all.
the room the arrangements at breakfast
Excellent food served by charming staff The rooms were very hot becuase it was not possible to open the window fully. This made sleeping rather difficult.
Great value, clean and well equipped rooms, excellent restaurant and bars. Welcoming reception staff
Very comfortable hotel and extremly attentive staff - would definately book again Breakfast great but evening meals very expensive and only one meal choice for vegetarians !!!
Nice hotel good food, nice bar. My top floor room had no cold water in the morning
Access to gym, pool and spa facilities.
Friendly staff, good food, and nice indoor pool.
