The staff was ver friendly The food was really good a+ The outdoors were beautiful absolutely loved it I didn't like the state of the rooms they could have been much more updated for such a beautiful place
so far everything was great, except the Italian restaurant, The salmons was not cook and was very cold. Reminding! Your staff was very knowledgeable. Thanks
WE stayed for 3 nights and it was really hard to take advantage of everything the hotel has to offer! I love the "Jewel Exclusives" such as the free glass bottom boat tour (which we did do) the trip to Dunns River, sunset cruise etc. That's a great advantage over a lot of hotels. There was also turn down service which I like…though we came back to the room so late the second night I didn't notice there was turn down service until our last night. The food is good. Since I am from Trinidad and my husband is from Jamaica we are very critical when it comes to hotels and local cooking. The Jewel did a good job with the local cuisine which I tend to gravitate towards. I also liked that you didn't need to make reservations for most of their restaurants so we were able to eat there at will. I have been to other hotels where you couldn't even get a reservation after arriving. So it was nice to always have the option of "going out" for dinner. They even serve breakfast in one of the restaurants for a nice sit down experience. I did however smell weed near my room two out of the three days I was there. So that was a bit strange and distasteful for my liking. Overall I have very little to complain about. If I were to suggest an area to improve it would be: Have more local fruit, dessert and pastry options. Many hotels love to offer american desserts and its nice to if they would be more inclined to show off the local tarts, patties, sponge cakes, rum cake, bun etc etc. We give people our food, let's share our local desserts and snacks too! Their entertainment was top notch. compared to other hotels it was above the rest. It was not the typical cheesy type of entertainment that causes me to roll my eyes. This was real singing, dancing, acrobats everyone could enjoy. We were never sure if room service was included as there was no book in our room providing a nice overview of the hotel along with menu choices. Sure we could have called and found out, but my husband opted for a mid-night stroll to the grill vs. calling the front desk and having to wait for his food. The grill ran 24 hours so that was nice. And the jerk there was close to authentic so that was also nice. A nice addition would be to have some Tastee's patties and an ice-cream shop. Like the coffee shop it would have been nice to get some local flavors like rum and raisin and cherry etc. Overall the Jewel has great value for money and we would certainly return.
The food could be better.
The service was definitely not I would call "luxury" by any means. We did not shower for two days because there was no cold water - only scalding water. The toilet was not working - could not flush it because cold water was not available to fill the tank. We had to full the waste basket with the scalding water and leave it to get to room temperature so we can take "sponge" baths. I have a lot more to say but I can't do it all here. But I will definitely contact them to file a formal complaint.
We had a super time. Friendly and accomodating staff, beautiful and clean facility and excellent food. Superb value and would definitely go again.
The People are the best asset, The pool and beach are great. Lots of activities. We loved it.
From start to finish Jewel Dunn's River Beach & Spa is one of the best inclusive resorts that I have been to, everyone is so friendly like we were all family. I would recommend this resort to all my friends and family.
Beautiful property; great entertainment, good food, even better liquor... that's it! If your room is in block 3, eg: room # 3xxx,... RUN!!! (unless you thoroughly enjoy the smell of sewage). Once you traverse past the main dining hall & approach the elevator for block 3, a noxious odour of sewage hits you! And it doesn't leave you... it permeates through the corridors and remains noticeably present even when you're isolated in your room. We arrived on Friday evening to a room which was cleaned before 3pm the same day, but which still wreaked of that god-forsaken sewage odour. It was so bad that we checked out on Saturday afternoon, instead of Sunday as scheduled (without being refunded). Your only hope for escape, aside from checking out, is to confine yourself to the many other beautiful areas of this property... the beach, pool, nightclub, dining areas. Just stay as far away from block 3 as possible and dare not venture into your magnificently appointed room! What about sleeping soundly in a comfortable bed to the sounds of breaking waves you may ask... overrated! (unless your vision included the porous smell of sewage constantly tickling at your nose & churning your stomach.) Did we complain you may ask? Yes we did, but was still left to suffer in sewage city (aka Block 3)! I guess I can understand it being difficult to relocate guests when your hotel is close to capacity & an entire block of rooms is under siege! Aside from that little nagging smell :( the property is beautiful & the entertainment is great, despite the service being less than stellar
Access to drinks in room was very convienientt
The stay was great! 2nd trip...much nicer than the 1st time will definitely go back...food was ok , good mixture of culture. The ackee and salt fish was superb - tasted home cooked. I was annoyed that the entertainer performed the Jamaica's National anthem with their hands behind their back - they should know better, they are Jamaican and should show the world the correct thing. As a Jamaican Teacher I was seriously annoyed.
Great service, food was surprisingly delicious and plentiful is an understatement. Several of the reservation only restaurants that I went to were very good as well. Easy to get to, lots of excursions. Very helpful and friendly staff. I would stay again. it's a tough one. I probably would've enjoyed more musical variety but i'm kind of grasping at straws to be honest.
I like the staff they were very helpful and nice the place was clean I also in joy the food
My stay was good, if you require rest and relaxation this is the place to be. I attended the Jamaica Jazz and blues Festival and this hotel is in close proximity, so it was very convenient for me to have a good dinner, relax by the sea and get some rest.
It was a nice little place, but not the hotel I had in mind.
We stayed 6 night and the service was wonderful. Staff was always there to serve. Nightly entertainment was good, drinks were great and the pool. Small resort but very personal. Would stay again.
Every thin was perfect, good drinks, clean beaches, quiet and a good service
Club Ambiance was an 'okay' way to spend our week in Jamaica, but lacked a number of feautes that I saw at other resorts. It is a very quiet, small hotel with a friendly staff and due to the size, it enables you to get to know all the other patrons during our stay. The rooms were adaquate, pretty clean, and everything was in working order, but it was overall, just 'okay'. The food was fair to good depending on the meal, but breakfast was excellent. The facitlities were definitely dated, but overall well kept. Staff was very polite and attentive. The 'beach area' was a big diappointment, with no real, 'beach'...just a small rocked in cove where ocean water pools. Very cost effective, but next time we'll upgrade to a larger resort with more amenities.
I traveled alone to Jamaica so Im a bold girl to begin with. I didn't have lots of money to spend on a weekend holiday away. However, I don't feel like I compromised myself at all. The place is clean the staff is friendly and the beach isn't big but it was all that I needed and more. I spent some time on the nude beach and on the regular beach and I wasn't crowded by tons of people. The food wasn't gormet but I never went hungry either. Oh and the nightclub was so much fun! Over all I am very pleased about staying here and hopefully I will get a good rate to stay again.
You get what you paid for. The hotel needs a face lift. The room and bathroom are in terrible shape. It be would be nice to know that toiletries are not available ahead of time so guests can take theirs along.
If your looking for a 5 star resort this is not the place. If your looking for a small resort where you can meet all the guest's meet all the staff, this is the place. The service and staff are 5 Star rated. We have been back4 times and will continue to do so. It is our Jamaica home. The food was great , the drinks even better. Not to far away from attractions.
As mention I had to stay at another property which was not as good. In fact it was lousy. They did offer a couple of perks I accepted. The next day I moved into the right property which was nicer. Other than no elevator it was nice. Had a nude beach but I didn't check it out. Food was good. Used public transportation to save cost and out is safe.
The staff was extremely friendly and helped and answered every question I had. I would recommend this resort to anyone going to Jamaica.
I love this place. If you like the big resorts, you won't love this one. It's small, beautiful, on the ocean - I just adore it. We have been here twice and haven't been disappointed yet. We get one of the deluxe rooms facing the ocean and they have been wonderful. The rooms are clean and large. The staff is friendly and helpful. We go all-inclusive and the food is great with a large variety. There is entertainment every night, and organized games, etc., if you want to do that during the day. I love the pool - large with an actual deep end. I'd go here every year, but my husband likes variety. Make no mistake, though, we will go back again.
my Jamaican girlfriend and I had a great stay - will come back soon - staff and food were always good - could have a better selection of 'top shelf' alcohol.. We enjoyed our quiet time together -
Everything here was amazing! We came for our honeymoon and stayed 7 days, we walked around the first day to see everything, but spent the rest of the days on the beach. There are tons of 'out of the way' places if you want to be alone, and tons of pathways through the woods connecting all the buildings. The food was really good, we wish we would have known that they change the menus on Sundays; there are 3 restaurants for dinner so if you're going for a week or more, make it go over a weekend so you can get a menu change. It was a long ride from the airport, but the driver will tell you about the island so it goes by quickly. If you're going to go snorkeling, which we definitely recommend, go on the glass bottomed boat tour first since they tell you what each part of the reef is. There is wifi in the rooms which we were able to pick up on our smartphones, but sometimes it could be slow. The beach bar stays open until 10 pmish, so if you don't want to go all the way up the hill to the main bar, there are plenty of places to hang out later into the evening, but things get pretty quiet after 8ish on most nights.
This was our 4th stay at CSS and w've never been disappointed. The grounds are gorgeous; the people are welcoming; this place is paradise. Complaints about dated rooms must be from people who aren't looking at the sunsets, the foliage, the skies... The rooms are immaculate. What more could you want from a room. You go to Jamaica for the beach, the food, the people, the sun. We'll be back next year and can't wait.
couldn't have asked for a better hotel. great food, super friendly staff, and although the hotel was completely booked, it never once felt crowded. The grounds were always quiet and relaxing.
I can't say enough good things about this resort, the staff are amazing, the food is out of this world, the location is perfect, I love this place!! I would go back in an instant.... where's my passport?
We have been to Jamaica 4 other times. We had very high hopes in regards to this stay. We had seen other reviews about this resort and were very excited about our stay. Arrival at the airport and being escorted into their waiting room was very nice and very painless. Drinks were provided as were restroom facilities. We only had to wait not even a 1/2 hour. The drive to the resort was very nice since they have finally finished with the road work. Upon arrival at the property we were greeted with the customary glass of champagne and checked in. At the same time we booked our restaurant reservations. A gentleman took us to our room in a little taxi like vehicle because we would have had to walk a bit of a distance with our luggage. We had to wait a bit more then we would have liked, but they did finally come and showed us our room which was right on the beach overlooking a small yard. Upon first entering the room you are greeted with a mini-fridge, mini-bar and coffee maker, etc... I immediately noticed that the furniture was nicked and had pot marks in it. The door to the cabinet that housed the mini bar did not even close all the way. Further inspection of the room was nice, but showed some shabby furniture that really needs to be replaced about 5 years ago. The bed was VERY comfortable though and they get 5 stars on that respect. The bathroom was nice and the shower and jetted tub are separate. We never used the jetted tub. Later on in the week though the bathroom seemed to be over run with these little ants all over the place. There were little ants all over the counter tops and in the floor. Also in the shower you could see mildew in the shower grout. We unloaded and relaxed for a minute, took in the view and off we went on our grand adventure. The beach is quite nice, but small and we are okay with that. just be reminded that this report's beach is located in a cove and the water is MUCH COLDER then out in the actual ocean. If you want warm water in the oce...
First time at an all inclusive and it was great. This resort was so clean and the staff so friendly... The grounds were beautiful... I loved the secret spots you could find while walking around... a hammock here, a giant sized chess board there... hidden jacuzzi's nestled amongst the palm trees... it was a treasure! I would definitely want to go back there again!
My husband and I stayed here on our honey moon in 1998 and it was beautiful and wonderful so we thought we would go back. 11 years later this hotel is showing its age! I would never go here again. The rooms were dingy, the furniture was the same furniture from 11 years ago with ding marks all over it. The bars close way too early now (most at 5pm), the service was not as good and the restraunt quality has gone way down. Definetly not worth the money. The spa wervices are also way too expensive now. We had to get more towels and wash clothes becuase there was only one set when we got there. We ended up called 3 times to get them. The minifridge is limited on the quantity of items you are allowed per day and they would only allow you to have 1 3oz cranberry juice per room??? So we had to split it. Even if you ask for more they will not give it to you. The main bar that stays open with the later hours is way up the mountain side so good luck catching your breath and finding your way back at night. The restaurants don't open until 7pm or later so we were always hungry by the time we were allowed to eat. Very disappointing.
Incredible staff, fabulous property, wonderful accomodations, terrific tours....the most perfect vacation I have ever experienced. I highly recommend Couples Sans Souci
Rooms are in need of updating and repair, our sliding glass door was very hard to open, fixtures are dated, etc. Lost power to most of our lights one day due to some burnt wiring and it took a full day for electricians to repair. I understand that these things can happen but it meant that we were unable to usee our room all day as repairmen were in there. The resort itself is very nice and while the service is not quite as good as it is in the DR it is still good.
Visited mid-December 2010 and had a great time. The food was plentiful and delicious and the amenities were great. The staff was very helpful, prompt, and courteous. We got a great suite, but knowing there was a better one, we requested a move. They obliged and we were tickled pink happy. My only (minor) beef was that the new room didn't have a complete set of remotes, towels, drinks, etc, so we had to be calling room service to get the basic stuff. But their service was prompt and we didn't let that bother us. Only left the resort for Dunns Falls, which I do not recommend. It was just a tourist trap. We were handed to a couple of 'guides' who basically pushed our group up the falls. But if you do decide to go, do get the rental rubber shoes (they make you get them anyway). Back to the resort, highly recommended. Even the room service food was great (get the gazpacho and the Mediterranean appetizer!). The resort is very green and with lots of places to just hang out, just the two of you. If you are looking for a tranquil time with your significant other, this is the place to go. Would go back again, no problem.
Everyone working at San Souci made us feel welcome and pampered. Very friendly, fun, relaxed, carefree environment. From the activity coordinators to the bartenders to the housekeepers. Very clean and well kept resort. Food and drinks were excellent! We are looking forward to going back.
Is this the newest property in Jamaica? No. Is the fully renovated and looks like it's never had a guest stay there? No. But is it the most relaxing, romantic place you may ever stay? Yes. So much to see and experience here that getting to the beach almost is an afterthought.
It was beautiful, there were lots of activities, the staff was all very friendly. I loved my time there. 1 The buffet food wasn't that great. We made reservations for the nicer restaurants every night. 2 The liquor was watered down. We didn't expect the drinks to be low quality to make up for the fact that it's all inclusive.
The vibe at this place is just lovely. We had never been to an all inclusive before (we like to experience the culture of a place and not just stay on a gated off property), but we booked because it was close to downtown ocho rios and a great price for including the round-trip montego bay airport transfer and free drinks/food/activities. We ended up loving the layout and vibe of this place. It's a luxury resort but it's kind of fraying at the edges, in a charming kind of way - apparently one of the first resorts built on the island. Everything is extremely clean and well designed. We loved the beautiful trees and plantings overgrowing the beach and pools. The naked island is also beautifully landscaped, with a luxurious isolated feel. We often felt like we were in one of those vacation posters from the 60s. The naked island. We were nervous about this but decided we had to do it before we left. It was actually really awesome and there was no reason to be nervous. The vibe was much more social out there, probably because being naked breaks down a lot of barriers you might normally feel with strangers. One woman commented that "this place is the opposite of sexy, it's more like becoming a baby again" and that was true. Teneil was running trivia at the pool bar out there and she was hilarious, and the bartender Abigail out there was great too. There's a full bar on the island and there's food out there around lunch too. You take a ferry out, find your beach chair, and then undress. You may not be out there with clothes on, except staff. Our cab driver Nash was the absolute man. He took us to the blue hole and then we booked him again to take us to the farmers market in ocho rios. He then took us to his favorite bar where we played dominoes with the locals - the most fun we had on the trip. Finally he brought us to a local Jamaican restaurant where much food was eaten. Book him, he's the man. The blue hole was incredible. Don't leave ocho rios without going there - natural waterfalls and turquoise pools with cliff jumping and rope swings. Our guide was Dave, who was also the man. The guides carry your cameras/iPhones over their heads as they swim across the pools and they never get wet. We loved the activity lady chevalle as well, who we tried to convince to walk with us to Ocho Rios which she thought was a fully hilarious request. Good people. Be aware that if you want to do scuba, the beginners class is at 8:30 AM and you may not scuba the day before your departure. The food was better than we expected for an all inclusive, but I was sick of it after 3 days. The Asian restaurant has a cool location out over the water, but the food was really bad except the thom kla soup (you're in Jamaica, why are you ordering Asian food anyway. This is an every-Asian-cuisine-on-one-menu place, which was the first sign). The drinks are free flowing and pretty yummy, but definitely watered down (even the gin ordered to our room was clearly half the alcohol of regular gin - I've made a gin and tonic many times and never put 3 shots in it). However, if these drinks were full alcohol, the resort would have a problem with guests being way too drunk so I understand why they do it. We also found more name-brand stuff that seemed to not be watered down on the naked island. The snorkeling trip was sad because the reefs around Jamaica are pretty much dead, and the "couples reef" is no exception. You'll see some little fish and a squid if you're lucky, but the coral is largely dried up. However, it's nice so swim out in the ocean and the trip is only an hour so why not. Cabs are very expensive, because the drivers stay with you wherever you go. My last criticism is that there's definitely a "hush hush" rule among employees that they are not allowed to tell you about fun local things to do (truly local).
Treat yourself to some peace and quiet. If you have the oppertunity to visit the north coast, please consider this hotel. First there is the property. It could only be discribed as beautiful and lush. Well appointed rooms greet you with outstanding views of the ocean and golf course. With a small but private balcony, the ultra-deluxe room is worth every cent. The staff was professional and friendly, and although the pace is definately slower on the island, there is more than enough attractions close by to keep you busy. Great food is available on property, at reasonable prices. I could not ask for a more peaceful, comfortable stay . At $86 a night, this is the best value onthe island.
the hotel was nice and cheap...there wasn't any entertainment on site but that's what makes all the local clubs even better.....if you're looking to save money pick this hotel....the rooms were clean and the service was great.....the food at the hotel was expensive and very blend but there are many local vendors about 10 mins from the hotel where the prices were great and the food was even better.....i will be returning to this hotel...maybe...in sept of 2007....in just 2 months...i can't wait....
This hotel tries hard, but misses on almost all counts! Food fair to good, staff mediocre, NOISY (i.e. no sleep), nothing to do, bar closes at 10 pm, no shade at pool, too far from beach of nightlife.
The staff were very nice, honest and hospitable. The food was good and cheap. The grounds were nice. The facility is another story. The first night we got there our bathtub would not drain, the toilet was going down slowly. In the morning we requested maintenance to look at it. He xcame to our room and plunged the toilet, which did nothing, and fooled aroung with the lever in the bathtub. Then he asked for a tip. The whole trip we had those problems. We were plagued by lizards and roaches in the room. The icing on the cake was one day at lunch, the waitress poured me some water and there was a roach leg in it(disgusting). We never ate there for the duration of our trip and left to spend a couple of days with friends in Kingston, returning the night before we had to leave. Now i understand thatthis hotel is government owned and there explains the reason it is in the shape it is.
I was impressed with the quality, spaciousness of the rooms.Quiet atmosphere were perfect for me and my ''heart''.
need new management staff
My wife and I were impressed with the boutique feel of the Plantation though it is part of the Sandals chain. Never felt crowded and the facilities felt authentic. The best food we've ever had at an all inclusive. A few earlier reviews claimed the rooms were worn but we felt our room and all the public spaces were clean and not dated at all. We are beach bums and loved the west beach. The butler service was ok though certainly not as good as butler services at other resorts. Some of the food staff could use more hospitality training.
