Room was cold- ancient heating- but a portable heater was supplied within 5 minutes. Very helpful staff
Beautiful castle in amazing historic grounds. Very friendly staff. The un-refurbished rooms had no thermostat and the heating was on full blast, so we had to sleep with windows open, bit of a waste of energy.
Wonderful character of the hotel coupled with pleasant helpful staff
When we arrived at the hotel we were amazed at the size of the gardens, views & the splendidness of the castle hotel itself. We had all the facilities of the hotel, & the only way to explain this is again by comparison really. For £65 we got full access to the hotel, including settees, sofas & real fires, we got a full english breakfast for 2 with amazing views in the "Peacock room", our room itself had ample supplies of coffee (both normal and decaff), biscuits & hot chocolate, heated towel rail & bath/shower massive high def tv, & again amazing views of the Ruthin Countryside. Compare this to perhaps a famous inn (of which there are many), which would cost £70 without breakfast, no heated towel rail & no biscuits/hot choc in room. Cant think of anything bad to say about this hotel. There was a wedding party there at the time, so space was limited for a nice evening meal, but the staff (thanks to Rianna) who laid a special table for us near a fire in a quiet room, and treated us like royalty. There are options for an expensive "posh" waiter service retaurant or your usual pub style normal price food, which was magnificent - we opted for the latter. I would go again and again, there is no comparison here to the far more expensive famous inns up and down the country, which have less and less complimentary items day by day.
The castle grounds and the building itself It appeared as though some of the rooms had not been used for quite sometime, these rooms were not as clean or well maintained as others.
Large room and great atmosphere The breakfast room was very utilitarian
The hospitality was second to none ,
No point having porter did not want to help guests , only his tea break, reception staff need smarter UNIFORMS/appearance. Tried to marry new boutique style in parts of hotel, this does not work,NEEDS to flow in style totally lacking at present
Wedding, food, staff The room was a bit sahbby and in need of updating,
Helpful stafff and excellent food
The hotel staff were above and beyond!! I would recommend to anyone traveling to the Ruthin, Wales area. Very nice and quiet. Good food and lovely views. Not that i didn't like it, but more that i just didin't realize when i booked - the hotel is situated in a holiday "caravan park" which is basically a much nicer version of a trailer park in the US. At first i wasn't altogether happy about this, but as usual, things work out and it ended up being perfect!! there was a playground for my kids and lots of other kids around (seeing as it was summer and the height of holiday season) to play with. per the website it looked more like a hotel in the country, but it's a hotel in a caravan park in the country :)
Welcoming and friendly Staff, nice comfortable room good availability of facilities Caravan site not mentioned on internet, location slightly difficult to find because of this
Beautiful hotel in fabulous surroundings. None
Staff were helpful and tried when they could to accomodate our requests (eg mixing menus from the restaraunt and bar menus. They were friendly too We were aware that it was within a static caravan area before we went. It was not intrusive but would have been a surprise if we hadnt read the description first
The room was as desribed but that was all No evening meal after 5 hour drive, no tea or coffee, left overnight in hotel with no staff on premises, that is illegal, bed not made up, bin not emptied, radiator on max not able to close off, no brown bread, no hot breakfast day one, no staff up at 0800hrs on day two to check out, left one day early
The rooms were individually decorated, the service was very good and the staff were extremely helpful. It was a manor house that had kept most of its orginal features. The views were lovely.
Excellent staff, very attentive. service excellent and very friendly. None
Good hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Classed as a hotel/restaurant. Not sure about the choice of menu - very limited.
I only stayed overnight after a wedding so didnt get to really experience much of the hotel/facilities. The breakfast was served quickly and prompt and offered a good range of options. The fixtures and fittings were shoddy to say the least - the towel rail and loo holder were not actually fixed to the wall - just hung over some nails. I pulled a towel off the rail after a show and nearly got cut my flying pieces of metal - same with the toilet holder. Also only one glass to use in the bathroom - lucky for me my boyfriend didnt mind sharing!
A good standard of refurbishment as far as it has gone but incomplete.; new manager had only been in place a few days so the fitting out was still very much a work in progress the hotel is situated in the middle of a large caravan (holiday lets and sales) site and this spoils its rating on location. This was not touched upon in the booking information/website
Health centre was not the greatest
Quite a nice bedroom The hotel's going through a much needed £3.2M refurbishment - I'd advise not staying here till that's complete.
not much mould growing in the bathroom, tired appearance dimly lit frontage looked like the place was closed.
Food excellent Bathroom - Shower and tiles need to be upgraded. Lamp in room not working
The breakfast facilities and choice was excellent
The whole weekend was enjoyable, very nice hotel, reception staff very helpful. Needed extra towels on the Saturday night and didn't get them.
Staff were helpful and friendly especially those on reception We thought the restaurent and bar was overpriced did not expect to pay London prices in North Wales, and so went out to eat and drink.
Excellent Swimming pool etc Closeness to a major dual carrigeway , one of our rooms was in a part very close and overlooking it. On this occassion it did not spoil the visit but in warmer conditions when a window would be needed to be opened ( or ayone who preferes an open window) it would be a problem . So unless I could guarantee a room away from the road I would not (for this reason only ) recommend ...as I have done below in the questionarre. The fan provided in this room would be little help. Otherwise I was very happy .
we were very kindly ungraded due to hotel refurb the bathroom which i guess is due for a refurb had a bath with lots of chips in
Large and comfortable bed Able to check in after 11pm without problems *very* poor service by Saturday staff at breakfast time Feint background noise after midnight of disco in hotel
friendly staff Some parts need redecoration
Views and spacious room No lift!! Lots of stairs to everything. Very slippy bathroom floor
Great location, right in the centre of Llangollen with fab view of the river. My room was nicely decorated, spacious and warm. Very pleasant dining room and breakfast was good. Private parking area that was locked at night. Some parts of the hotel are still shabby, needing refurbishing.
The rooms ver lovely and clean and the staff very accomodating
The location of the hotel was fantastic, the rooms clean and very comfortable and staff excellent
It was an attractive old and historic hotel. The hotel staff were courteous, helpful and friendly. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bathroom had been modernised. The bedroom was nicely warm due to a fan heater being provided. It was a cold day/night and the public areas of the hotel were extremely cold, particularly the dining room and the passageways - all the radiators were turned off. The shower did not work which I did mention in the morning and they were very apologetic.
Lovely room overlooking the river.
Only problem was the use of non-fair-trade coffee in the room. Please don't use nestle products!
The view over the River Dee was stunning! A pleasure to wake up to. The staff were lovely and really helpful, and the hotel was clean, well kept and full of charm. My only comment would be to suggest double glazing for the windows for energy saving purposes.
Hearing the sound of the river from the bedroom was a real treat. I felt the bathroom could have been improved by new flooring, the general appearance of the room was good but this one point did spoil the otherall pleasure.
The hotel is extremely welcoming, with easy access from the main road. On entering the hotel the decor is very pleasent and clean, and the rooms nice and warm - very necessary with the snow outside during our visit. Use of the leisure facilities at Lion Quays was a real bonus.
The room layout was good for families. Breakfast included was great. Help from the assistant at the front desk was useful and professional.
Welcome was strange (to say the least) - "I wouldn't have let the room go for this price" said the man on reception - very welcoming! After that things improved. Nice large room good sized bed (though very soft for me) and a nice bathroom. Quiet location and very good breakfast for £5 each, The rather strange welcome. The very soft bed.
Quiet A facility to install a child safety gate on the mezzanine stairs would have been really helpful
helpful staff/value for money
Swimming pool at sister hotel and brewkfast
Deluxe rooms were great! Breakfast good. Very easy to find
The room was excellent, we stayed in a deluxe room. The breakfast and evening meal was delicious. We stayed here as it was a great base for xmas shopping at Chester and Shrewsbury.
The hotel was comfortable and good value for money. TV signal intermittent. Could not watch TV for most of the evening.
Friendly and helpful staff at reception
The hotel was clean and modern, easy to find and situated just off teh main road from Shrewsbury to Chester, ideal for teh local area and facilities but also a handy base if exploring the north wales mountains. Reception was polite, courteous and helpful. we were upgraded to a higher spec room at no additional cost. very enjoyable stay.
staff made my stay very agreable and pleasant.
locality to pricey. carpark bill, plus breakfast to be paid for.was going to stay here in Nov but booked another hotel.would only stay here if on offers as before
Medium sized, intimate, friendly hotel with helpful staff. it was immaculately clean as were the fixtures and fittings, also the bar and restaurant areas, food was excellent also
really helpfull freindly staff, I thought the bar area could have been a little more like a bar,it felt very cafe like.
friendly staff, excellent food ,clean and comfortable rooms
Good size room with friendly, helpfull staff. Easy to find location with excellent links to motorways
The hotel was excellent, the rooms were superb, the bar/reception areas were airy and bright really nice. The staff couldn't have been more helpful particularly the receptionist Donna.
lovely modern spacious room
Hotel room was very modern and all in all was a great stay over. Bar opening Hours - surely residents should be allowed to drink at the bar past 10pm?
The staff was outstanding the frunishings and lay out are amazing, and the food was wounderful.
Excellent B&B beautiful location and Sarah and Patrick are wonderful hosts. Our room was beautiful with our own patio but the mattress was much too firm.
The b&b is modern, clean, tastefully decorated. it is better than most five star hotels. the breakfast is fab. and you could not find better hosts. Shame we could not stay longer this time!!
Cosy, clean, quiet, comfortable, friendly, great breakfast None!
Owners very helpful and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere. Room well appointed.
One of the best guesthouses I've ever stayed in. Really lovely accomodation that was spotlessly clean. Exceptionally welcoming hosts, most helpful and imformative. Fantastic food with huge portions. Great value for money.
The staff is unbelievably friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic and portion sizes were great. Our room was very large with a lovely view of the grounds. There is a wonderful beer garden and children's play area in the side garden. We will surely be staying here again and again! (The price was absolutely perfect!) Just a few small issues in the room. The shower curtain could use a good wash and there was a small bit of paint chipped off one of the radiators. Nothing major.
easy access from the A%. cleanliness of room and willingness of the Staff to show me how the television worked
The staff were very friendly, and we all felt very wecome, however we only stayed over night. If anything it was a little bit cold in the sitting room and bedrooms.
Pleasant owners. Good breakfast Excellent shower Clean Poor decoration - lots of apparently part finished jobs Strong smell of damp in corridor outside our room Advertised as a hotel when it is a guest house No acces to the bar at 10.20 Heating on for a limited period of time.
Owners were welcoming and breakfast was good. Room was small and not cleaned adequately. The shower tray needed sealing, the sink had a crack down it and the bathroom shelf, tea tray and radiators had not been cleaned for a long time. Milk was off on tea tray. Poor attention to detail but could be lovely.
The friendly staff and owners and the lovely hospitality that we were given. Nothing at all
The friendly service and warm welcome. The room was quiet, away from the road and traffic noise. No.
Convenient position, friendly service, good food, value for money
Friendly welcoming staff and good food Room a bit tired and no ventilation in the internal en suite.
The hospitality of the hotel was 5 Star and the service was excellent.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Everyone made me feel very welcome and the hotel has a very friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is of a high standard and the food extremely good quality and well priced. Perhaps the best beef fillet I have ever eaten! The room I had, although very comfortable for one, was one the small side and perhaps would be too small for two people.
Friendly staff, excellent food and comfortable room. Nice atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. Thoughtful to place fresh fruit in room. Shower unit in my room was not good for a tall person! Diificult to adjust.
Comfortable & clean, excellent location
the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. just one thing, i was in the room above the front entrance and the noise at night was very loud with traffic, i would maybe suggest double glazing.
a good cellar and knowledge of wines a very good menu and table service no
carpets in the hallway desperately need renewing
Good breakfast and fresh fruit bowl every day
The food was excellent and it was a nice touch to have fruit in the room as well as biscuits. The mattress in room 3 was absolutely dreadful - we could feel every spring and it compressed right down when we sat on it. The room was right by a main road, just off a roundabout. This meant that with the lack of double glazing we could hear every vehicle changing gear and accelerating right outside our window. I can honestly say we had the worst night's sleep we've ever had. We couldn't wait to get home and have a nap. The light coloured carpet was heavily stained. There was wif-fi 'throughout the hotel' but on check-in I was told it might not be available in the bedroom, and it wasn't. I tried again in the dining area - no connection and once again in the small lounge just inside the front door - and again no signal.
We received a very warm welcome at the Lemon Tree, the staff were super, our room was very comfortable and the food was excellent.
the friendliness of the staff, the excellent service and fantastic food
very clean godd food to remote
The Hotel was Dirty & the approach to the Hotel said so, the Hotel needs updating £150 is all that it takes to update the room and make them look presentable, the Hotel needs to get rid of all the stuffed animals and money needs spending on the decor
Lovely hotel good food nice staff and lovely open fire in bar.breakfast good and served early for us to leave for appointmentno Nothing not to like.
Very pleasant hotel in picturesque area . Good breakfast and bar food . Good size car park . Comfortable rooms and good guests lounge . Would recommend for walking or relaxation break Some of the decor slightly dated .
Peace & quiet! Food was excellent! The fact that pets are allowed in all rooms! (There were dog hairs in our carpet)
Very freindly staff Room in need of re-decoration, wallpaper peeling, spa bath in poor condition.
The room we had was spacious, the view was excellent. Lots of wardrobe space and plenty of hangers! Needed re-decorating and bathroom needed a definite upgrade.Nice to meet locals in the bar and the bar food was very good. The hotel generally looked 'tired' but as I understand, the current owners have only been in for a few months, so maybe this is understandable. Restaurant food not as nice as bar food, but was more expensive! All staff very pleasant, but some very young and inexperienced. Some 'in-house training' would be useful?
The food at this place is spectacular. When people find out about this hidden gem it will go nuts. Try the restaurant.
We were able to get a family room with separate bedrooms.
It was a lovely country hotel, not commercialised, lovely intimate bar area with open fire and lovely food.
