The staff were extremely welcoming.
What a special place. Family/hosts were wonderful. Authentic Aruban experience.
The views were stunning in every direction. Serene by the Sea is peaceful and the family who family who runs the property is lovely. They are accommodating and happy to help. It was great that there was snorkel gear in the room complimentary. We enjoyed the breakfast on the terrace every morning where we could view seat turtles. There are about 5 local iguanas and unique crabs that come out for a snack from the family of leftover bread each day. We did not rent a car and we were offered rides regularly. We we trying to get in some walking but appreciated the ride to the airport! We were guests in the week in between Christmas and New Year's. They treated us like family on New Year's Eve and invited us to see their fireworks. It is the most public fireworks we have ever seen! All guests had the same expectation of relaxation and peace. A wonderful place to unplug and enjoy the beauty of Aruba without the tourist traps and noisy parties.
I think there are two Arubas. One is the resort area with its big beaches, casinos and hoards of cruisers and Americans. The other is nestled on the other side of the island in places like Saveneta, home of Serene by the Sea. This is not a resort and it’s not especially fancy, but it’s perfect. You have breakfast overlooking the water, then you can hop in the water and snorkel with scores of tropical fish almost instantly. The hosts make you feel at home. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It’s a great spot to see the “real” Aruba that’s not full of chain restaurants and cheesy beach bars. Two of the better restaurants on the island are within walking distance. If I make it back to Aruba, I’ll be staying here again.
It’s not a big deal to me, but you’ll definitely want a rental car if you stay here. It’s a great base for exploring the whole island and people who want this type of holiday will want a rental car anyway.
Location and Staff. Location: hotel has only 6 rooms, and the amount of beach it owns is pretty long. Even if all rooms are full it feels like private paradise for “only you”. With Kayaks, snorkeling gear, two great restaurants nearby it is really something. The staff is amazing to offer you services beyond what you can think and surprise you - they do care, and just talking to them you get an experience how locals live. If this is not what you go for vacation, but you are looking for all-inclusive standard 5-star place with built-in casino, people in uniforms and souvenirs shops near by- this is not a place for you.
There is no decent supermarket nearby, neither grocery stand, if you are fruits lover - hard time to get anything local... on the other hand we did not find such fruits stands anywhere in Aruba
