Pros: Room ,location,food
Cons: Nothing
9.7 Excellent
Pros: This is a luxury hotel with a wonderful location right next to Unzen's most famous attraction, its hot water jigoku (hells). It is also a very convenient, short walk from the bus center and tourist info center. The rooms are surprisingly large, especially by Japanese standards, with excellent views and all the amenities. The staff speaks English and is very helpful. The onsen baths are delightful and the food is excellent. What more could you ask for?
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel filled with tradition yet newly renovated.
Cons: The fish in both dinners was mediocre
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Super great experience and nice staff! My family lives in a villa including my baby 1.5 year old. This hotel is baby friendly !
Cons: Nthg can be complaint
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room is super spacious. Has a japanese n western sitting area, a balcony, separate toilet. Also have different slippers for different areas. Very detailed arrangement. The location of this hotel is unbeatable, thus the view from hotel rooms are fantastic. There are free alcholic and soft drinks for house guest in the afternoon and after dinner.
Cons: The meals are very refined, however, breakfast can be a bit too refined. We planned to go trekking so we had to request for extra bowl of rice and egg. Food quality is great just the quantity needs a bit of adjusting....
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The service was spectacular
Cons: The location was a bit remote
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with outstanding facilities. Like the Volcanic water bath available in the room and the top floor club with free drinks and massage chairs. Beautiful view at 360 degrees. Rooms are spacious and of high quality design and materials.
Cons: Food is good but outpriced.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good food Some of the staff members were very polite and friendly (but not all sadly) and the hotel has a pretty special location right on top of Unzen's hell
Cons: At this price point, service could have been a touch better/more flexible. It was already known I had my child with me yet the room did not include a yukata for him - I had to ask for it and turns out they had it. Also, we had just purchased some fine Japanese peaches and the staff weren't willing to have the kitchen cut it for us during the breakfast/dinner (which were both meals included already in our rate). In both above examples, I have been to enough higher-end ryokans which would have gladly taken care of these properly. There are no public onsens at all, good ryokans often have very nice ones. The private onsen in our own room didn't have what I consider good enough privacy standards as there is a public path nearby that people can look into the room from

7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel is just next to Unzin Hell valley, nice walk around. Easy parking.
Cons: The hotel is a bit old, need some renovation. The onsen in the hotel is very basic, and looked a bit old. It would be good if the hotel could provide more facilities such as massage chair.
8.0 Excellent

Cons: Onsen was too small
7.9 Good
Pros: Great shuttle bus service and a warm welcome from staff. And when we found the double bed too small they were very helpful in making up a spare bed.
Cons: Bathroom and room a little old-fashioned.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous. Firstly the staff were lovely and incredibly helpful. One member of our family was sick so a wonderful staff member escorted us to the doctor and translated for us. It may the process very easy which was great appreciated when sick. The dinners was delicious and kept coming. The outside Onsen was beautiful. There is a family onsen if you have a family or need more privacy. It’s just as good as the main ones, just smaller.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is great! Staffs are very helpful and professional. The hotel stays in a very good condition as from its first day. Hot spring is relaxing and almost full day operational, very convenient.
Cons: Gps didn’t lead our car to the right spot, but popping in the other hotel and was told it is just few steps away.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: There is no language barrier, the staff can speak good English. The staff there was friendly and nice, he will explain in detail if you have questions about the Unzen Onsen area or the hiking route. There is a small place for you to cook during the stay since there are limited restaurants in Unzen Onsen area and they close early.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s one of the most affordable places to stay overnight in Unzen onsen, so great for solo travellers. Friendly staff (he had a sweet daughter!) and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Definitely different to city life, up here in the mountains!

Pros: Friendly staff members who made effort to enhance comfort and enjoyment of guests. Excellent breakfast and dinner.
Cons: Nothing.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Free parking. Nice staff.
Cons: Noisy late into the night. We have spent 3 weeks in Japan and this was the worse value for the cost of everywhere we've stayed. Uncomfortable bed, smelly bathroom, everything felt cheap. It may be popular for its onsen but I wouldn't recommend it.
7.5 Good
Pros: Other than the smell, it was good. Comfort. Had quite good TV. There was some activities you can do at the evening include table tennis, games.
Cons: I could not find good restaurant for dinner nearby. Breakfast was... what should i say... too greasy. Oh and the room was filled with cigarette smell. There is a deodorant spray in the room.. if you don't like the cigarette smell, the first thing to do is to open all the window you can find and use a lot of deodorant. And give up. You will get used to that smell. Oh and air conditioner is built in, on the ceiling. Right above the bed. Don't set it on lowest temperature before you go to bed. Otherwise, you will be found as a frozen meat. The corridor was very hot.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming staff, child friendly hotel, many indoor and outdoor facilities to entertain everyone, games/activities are organised in the evening, great buffet breakfast and restaurant on site, onsen, bikes available. Definitely recommended!
Cons: Bad smell in the bathroom in the evening. Mattress too soft. Despite the room was non-smoking, when we arrived we could smell the smoke...we left the window open for a few hours and it was gone.

Pros: Onsen resort. Not exactly peaceful, but fun.

Pros: Helpful staffs...
Cons: Four hot spring are small , the view is common
6.3 Good
Pros: Nice onsen. Pretty old, needs a refurbish. Food was ok. We stayed one night for that it was ok.
Cons: Altogether pretty expensive for what you get.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It is near bus stop, just 30sec walking to the hotel. Staff are nice and friendly and speak multi languages. It has private rooms for dinner and foods are excellent.
Cons: Rooms are little bit gloomy and air-con didn’t work well.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The public onsens, especially the outdoor ones were a dream. Definitely try both. The dinner and breakfast was a feast, and the staff were very welcoming - as a memento they gave us a framed photo they took of us at dinner as a honeymoon gift, very sweet.
Cons: The bathroom was a bit dark and run down, but we washed in the public baths so it didn’t matter (we stayed in the old wing).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, we took a bus from Isahaya and arrived right in front of the royukan. It is located right next to the Hells of Unzen, and many of the tourist areas of the town, making it easy to explore. The staff are accommodating and welcoming, using English when they can to explain and making sure you understand how things work, answering any questions that came up. The facilities especially the private dining space and the dinner and breakfast we're lovely, very traditional but exactly what we hoped for. We did not try the public baths as we both have tattoos and booked a private bath for the night but the spaces seemed lovely and if there were time in the morning we would have tried to see if we could access them without issue. The room was a good size and the tatami mat area a nice space to relax after dinner and bathing, we were provided to with very comfortable yukata and encouraged to wear them around the hotel, for dinner and breakfast as well as to the baths which enhanced the experience.
Cons: There have been some beautiful recent renovations to the facilities but not all the rooms have been updated, there are some signs of use. Also certain costs that might be expected to be included such as private baths and non-alcoholic drinks at dinner were not included.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very short walking distance to the hot springs
Cons: They didn’t lay 2 layers of tatami mattress as the my other nite in another Ryokan. Room abit cramp for 5 beds.
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to hells(jigoku) and liked the color of onsen pool (milky jade). The room was spacious big enough for parents and 2 teenagers. While we were at dinner, they put out futons ready for us to relax. The standard dinner and breakfast tasted healthy with nice traditional Japanese food presentation. The staffs were very friendly, polite, and tried to help with anything you need.
Cons: The building is quite old. It seemed to have new air conditioning unit in the room and tatami mats looked new but the bathroom and the rest were quite outdated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the housekeeping staff who kindly told us about a festival and took us there. The private outdoor onsen was beautiful. The staff were very accommodating of our English and lack.of Japanese. They were lovely to our 3 and 5 year old children and we weren't made to feel like a nuisance. Thank you, Yumoto Hotel. We love your staff and we love Unzen!
Cons: Our bathroom walls were quite dirty, especially behind the toilet.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a wonderful hotel with a room looking out over the mountains and lake. The hotel was a little faded in areas but this added to the character and it was spotlessly clean. The onsen was amazing and the private onsen is worth paying for the experience. Japanese breakfast also a great experience. Ideal location close to all sights and staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Some areas of the hotel require a little tender loving care but nothing to spoil the stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese Style Lodgings. Beautiful inside and out including outside onsen bookable privately.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: - Helpful and friendly staff. - Located in a quiet and peaceful area. - The room is big and quite comfortable.
Cons: - The futon is a bit thin.
7.5 Good
Pros: There is an elevator. It is located on the center of town. We could walk to Unzen Hell.
Cons: The staff didn't tell us when they will come to prepare the beds. So they came in when we were sleeping and they knocked the door so loud. On that day, they didn't allow guests to use onsen during 8-9 pm because there was a group of students booked for it. The room looked a bit shabby. The breakfast was too small in portion and the taste was so normal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen is good. Meals are excellent.
Cons: If tha private bathroom can be renovated.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved this place. ..it was so Japanese!! I know that might sound odd, but just having come from Tokyo where we stayed in hostels, it was lovely to arrive to slippers at the entrance, a choice of yukata for the onsen, and a tatami-matted room for us to lay our futons in. Very friendly helpful staff helped us make sense of it all. Obama is great.....steam rising from every crack and a strong smell of sulphur which you become immune to surprisingly quickly.
Cons: Nothing

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really enjoyed staying here. It feels like 90% resort hotel and 10% youth hostel. We aren't Japanese but it felt like everyone else was. Spacious comfortable room. Good buffet breakfast. Very helpful staff despite language difficulties and when we left they kindly gave us a lift to the bus stop in town. The outdoor baths are nice with a view of the trees. There's a small shop by reception where you can buy snacks and even pot noodles.
Cons: It's true the room had a mountain view but you have to ignore the car park in the foreground. The hotel is a bit out of town, so be aware of this if you arrive by bus. It's not really that far; we walked it with backpacks on in 10-15 mins. As well as walking along the little road there is a path through the woods which you can use.
