10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely brilliant, simple ryokan run by a young couple, of whom the lady speaks great English. Wonderful home-cooked food for dinner and breakfast. Beautiful baths that you reserve for private use, so couples or families can bathe together, rather than splitting into single sex baths. Lovely room. Nice quiet town. Lovely, comfortable room.
Cons: Nothing. It's about a 17 minute walk from the train or less than ten minutes from the bus, but I liked the walk through the town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Run by very friendly and helpful family (excellent English!). Nice food. Lots of space. Green, very quiet surroundings.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very traditional Japanese room with tatami floors, futon bed, shoji panels, and hot springs (not in room). Staff were very accomodating, friendly and even gave me a ride to the train station in the morning, although it's not a very long walk. Located right at the base of mountains and I could hear wildlife in the night although it only added to the experience and was unobtrusive. If I was ever down on the Izu peninsula again I would definitely cosider this place.
Cons: The location doesn't offer much in restaurants around it although I do believe they sell food there although i did not partake. Thin walls could be an issue but that depends on you and the other guests there at the time. I didn't mind it but it's something to note.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing! Great meals, excellent views, and really good service. Remarkable experience here and love to come back again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts were very kind and give us all advices to visit Shimoda coast. Our Japenese room and breakfast were perfect and outside onsen was so pleasant alter visits. We shall be back. Nathaniel from Rouen
8.3 Excellent
Pros: friendly hosts, good food and a nice outdoor bath. the room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: the location is a little out of the way but if you are looking for a quiet spot it's very nice.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are very lovely, and are very attentive to your needs. The onsen is great and makes you feel so relaxed before bed every night. They have both an inside and outside onsen-you can use either. The breakfast was excellent and great to be able to have a traditional Japanese breakfast each morning and coffee after. Yurie speaks great English as she spent some time in australia. Overall, the accomodation exceeded our expectations and if we ever travel back to shimoda we will stay here again! I’d recommend this as your place to stay in shimoda. FYI- pictures of the beach are shirahama beach. About 10min drive away
Cons: nothing! Ps. Hire a car to get around. You’ll thank yourself.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place, wonderful food, wonderful service! We really received such personal attention the whole time. I took my parents here during their visit to Japan, and they will remember their bbq by the pool, their hot spring tub looking over the ocean, and that golf game that was arranged for my stepdad forever.
Cons: Nothing!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This was not my first visit so coming back to see the renovations on the onsen was a wonderful surprise! We upgraded to a suite at no extra charge. The breakfast was wonderful as always and staff were very kind. Very clean and spacious rooms!
Cons: A small miscommunication at first with the onsens, we found out the onsen must be reserved and there is a 350 yen charge for it, but it was worth the few extra dollars and we were still able to reserve more time.

Pros: The Onsen in house was great!
Cons: It’s good if places offer complimentary things like cheaper bike rent, coffee, etc

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, big, modern room with attached shower and toilet. Loved the private onsens. The hotel was very quiet at night.
Cons: None.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I really liked the room. It was spacious and had a lovely washroom with beautiful sliding doors and window treatment. I also really liked the shared “hot spring” bath. This is the facility for showering since the room only has a sink and toilet.
Cons: There is no social space in the hotel. Not ideal if you want to meet other / socialize with other guests.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean and new renovated
Cons: No breakfast facilities
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean structure, good design of the common spaces, private onsen for free.
Cons: Check in after 16 seemed too late for us. The room was OK but little for the price paid. Owners were kind but not around often. Position was OK but not very close to the beach like seems on the photos. There were services but expansive too (2000y/day to rent a bike).
9.3 Excellent
Pros: location is not very centre but only takes 10min by walk from the station
Cons: not a big deal but the bath was soooooo hot lol
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good music
Cons: Bathroom amenities
7.5 Good
Pros: nice & easy !
Cons: sadly not flexible on checkin / checkout times !
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and beautifully decorated and the price was very good. There's no private bathroom but you do get your own toilet and sink in your room and the shared onsen was lovely and warm (and because the place was quiet I had it all to myself on both days). The area has beautiful beaches and waterfalls but it was all a bit quiet when I visited (in late April). The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from restaurants. There are buses and trains in the area but you really need a car to get around easily. I hired a car from Mishima train station and it was a pretty easy drive to Shimoda from there.
Cons: The hotel is a bit isolated, on the outskirts of Shimoda. While it's next to the coast, it's just behind a fishing port so don't expect lovely beach views. Perhaps it's different in summer but it was really hard to find anywhere to have breakfast in the morning. Nothing seems to open until about 11am so be prepared to pick up some groceries if you want breakfast before then.

The hotel staff is very kind and helpful. They’re doing their best to take care of the guests and please them. A very enjoyable stay
4.3 Okay
Cons: Poor food quality , low value for money Not worth it
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice sea view from balcony, really worth to book! Free shuttle bus to the station in Shimoda. Beautiful pool to use for free.
Cons: Hotel facilities are kind of old and dingy. Atmosphere of restaurant (the left room) more like a station restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located on a beautiful hill towards the sea. The room is big and well equipped. The SPA facility has an outdoor Onsen with a beautiful ocean view. The staff is very friendly. This is a good place for relaxing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Shimoda Tokyu Hotel is in a picturesque location and has wonderful facilities - great outside pool, onsens and the hotel has a couple of restaurants. The rooms are very clean and a good size with a small balcony too (we had a western style standard twin room and it comfortably fit 2 adults and 3 small children). The restaurants are quite expensive but there is a shuttle bus they run to shimoda station so plenty of restaurant options nearby. There is also a beach in walking distance to the hotel. We were there at the start of the Japanese summer vacation so the hotel had on lots of extra activities for kids - nightly fireworks, night swimming for 2 hrs with lights and music, as well as a children's playroom and a nightly show (magician or story teller). Our children didn't want to leave! Also a good location if you have a car as it is only a 10-20min drive to lots of different beaches in the area.
Cons: We found the hotel food expensive so we self-catered for breakfast and only had dinner at the hotel once. The buffet dinner we did have was excellent quality and had a great kids buffet but it was very expensive! We were travelling by car so were able to go in to Shimoda easily to get dinner and we were usually at a local beach for lunch. Room had a fridge so we could stock our own milk, yoghurt, drinks and snacks. Considering the cost of the room the WIFI wasn't great and we had a few troubles with it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We hade a lovely view of the pacific from our room, which was a bit small for a family. The breakfast was very good. A nice pool and walking distance to a nice beach. Shimoda had lots ov nice restaurants.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved this hotel. I visit Shimoda each time I visit Japan. This is a sleepy seaside town that has incredible views and good food. The hotel has a good shuttle service from the station which we later found out after taking the local bus and dragging or suitcases up the small mountain the hotel was situated on, much to our, and the staffs amusement. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and lived up to the Japanese customer service. The rooms were slightly small but it was nice to have a regular sized bathroom after staying in the city for a couple of weeks. The location is an easy 5-10 minute scenic stroll into the centre of Shimoda and even closer to Shimoda park. Or you may use the shuttle to the station which is located in Shimoda. The views and facilities of the hotel were outstanding. Adored the hotel and I am glad we chose to stay in this hotel, it really added to our experience.
Cons: The food at breakfast was sub-par. Slightly disappointed and probably would skip the buffet breakfast if I returned. Whilst the selection was appropriate the quality of the food was poor and unsatisfactory considering the standard of the hotel. However, this is the only fault we had and the dinner, whilst I did not have the opportunity to experience, looked amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, big beautiful rooms, hotel territory with pool and easy access to the beach. Amazing hot spring bath with the view of the sea
Cons: Breakfast buffet is too expensive and not really breakfast more like dinner style. I can’t eat sushi at 8 in the morning and wash it down with wine..was very unpleasant experience
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a great hotel, the staff were incredibly helpful and made our visit so relaxed. The onsen was fantastic and the pool was great too!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: the view and food
Cons: no activities

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The host is very nice and friendly!!! He brought us to visit the beaches and some other places and brought us to the grocery which was very appreciated because his house is up in the mountains and a good walk!! The view is very niceee!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Mcmill House surpassed all our expectations. The host gave us a very warm welcome and showed us around Shimoda. The view from the house is spectacular and the environment is very quiet due to the position of the house high on a mountain. Still, the location is very close to the center of shimoda and to the amazing beaches. Mcmill House is a great place if you want to surf, hike, or relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery that Japan has to offer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place overlooking Shimoda and ocean. Tranquil place with a spirit.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The house is stunning, all wooden made, and the kitchen is fully equipped, guest can bring food and cook
Cons: To enjoy the view it quite a climb to reach the house, so not a big deal for a few days but you need to consider having you own mean of transportation, I did really appreciated the pick up and drop off at the station!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the balcony, the sunrise in the morning, the exceptional hospitality, etc.
Cons: I liked everything.

Pros: Beautiful location and rooms.
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Clean, great location right on beach, great onsens
Cons: Need to request dinner before you arrive, and also need to make breakfast reservations.
6.3 Good
Pros: The views were spectacular, the room was very spacious! We were there in mid June, so off season so it was peaceful and not lot of people.
Cons: The hotel is quite old and facilities like bathrooms or onsen were looking less than hygenic. The staff in the restaurant spoke no English so we had no idea what we were eating. And that made it a stressful and quite overprized experience.
7.5 Good
Pros: They have valet parking and some of the staff speaks fluent English. Good location overseeing the ocean, at the beachfront, with onsen (hot spring) in room and at the roof. Food is sumptuous and delicious too!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love the hot bath and the sea view. All the staffs are kind and gentle.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room is great, with the minimal that you need, Japanese style. The view is a dream, to the beach, that you can see the surfers all day long. The ocean waves can be heard from the room, so relaxing.
Cons: No options for a vegetarian in the hotel menu.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great sea view onsen, incredibly peaceful. We had a spacious tatami room and beach view from our balcony and indoor seating area. Hotel is a bit old but charming, clean and a very relaxing stay.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The ocean view and open-air onsen is fabulous. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I booked the dinner and breakfast, the hotel is very kindly to arrange the waitress who can speak Chinese language to help me with my dinner and breakfast. Espeacially thanks to Miss Wang Wen who is working in the restaurant team. She is very nice and responsible. I think I will stay here again when I visit Shimoda next time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very nice and helpful. The private onsen with sea view is an amazing experience. We loved the Japanese style room as well.
Cons: There was some mould in the wardrobes.
Nonohanatei Komurasaki - Shimoda - Building
15
9.1 Excellent (24 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Nonohanatei Komurasaki in Shimoda, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Hofuku-ji Temple and Shimoda History Museum. This 4-star ryokan is 17.9 mi (28.8 km) from Atagawa Tropical and Alligator Garden and 0.8 mi (1.2 km) from Ryosen-ji Temple.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: No-no-Hanatei Komurasaki A wonderful Ryokan with a perfect location, just five minutes walking from the train station, and still in a very quiet neighborhood. The room we had was spacious, practical, and beautifully furnished. Tatami mats, sliding doors, lots of lights and artwork, and the most important part: a private garden with our own onsen (hot spring bath). Such a cozy little hotel, with only a handful om rooms, but big on service! The staff took care of us at every turn, and even drove us the short trip to the station when we checked out because it was raining pretty hard. We’d come back after walking all over town, and in the room a small snack, or some food, was waiting for us. Everything was perfect. Very comfy beds (Japanese style), extra pillows, good wifi, water heater, night light, fridge, and a heater under the table so we could warm our feet while drinking our coffee or tea. Long story short: We felt so welcome and at home that we didn’t want to leave, and we’ll definitely come back!
Cons: It’s perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan has just about 5min walk distance to the izukyu-shimoda(伊豆急下田) station and the lawson, 10min walk distance to the top rated restaurants of shimoda on tabelog. with Roten-buro(露天風呂) on the balcony, it effectively refreshed me after travelling for a whole day. The innkeepers have great passion.
Cons: Communicating with English have quite a few difficulty although they have a card with many basic conversations on it. google translate/a little japanese/kanji knowledge will help in most cases.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My husband an I stayed one night at this Ryokan for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint. The vibe you get from this place is like a slice of heaven. Be prepared to be be pampered and welcomed with open arms. Also upon arrival you will get a green tea and a Japanese treat. If you do not speak Japanese do not feel worried for they have a book with english translations inside so you can at least communicate at a basic level. After travelling for over 2 weeks it was great to slow down for one night and have everything bought to us. We ordered dinner for the night which was delicious. I have a shellfish allergy so they did change some of the menu to accommodate my needs. The dinner may seems very expensive but you will not be left unsatisfied or hungry at all. Most of the meals we had no idea what they were but it all was amazing. They also gave us an extra little snack for later which was a lovely little surprise. To escape for one night and have a slice of old Japan was well worth whatever cost, because the experience is one I will never forget. A highly recommended place for couples to relax and enjoy each others company.
Cons: The only thing I would say I did not like was seeing some spiders. I hate them with a passion but that is my own problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed staying here and wished we could have stayed longer. The room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The bathing was extremely relaxing with outdoor onsen and indoor bath. We will definitely stay again. We also loved the Jinbei, so comfortable!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This place is awesome! If you're a tourist and especially a foreigner who would like to see something more traditional to japan then this is for you, although I live in Tokyo and this is the most Japanese experience I've had. There are only five rooms in the Inn so it's very personal and intimate. When you first walk in the will sit you down and give you traditional green tea and explain the rules with a pointee talkie. The entrance is extremely beautiful. The rooms are massive and covered in tatami floors. Your beds are in the middle of the floor and are mats this may seem weird to foreigners but its actually comfortable. The onsen and shower are the icing on the cake and are completely private blocked off by the vegetation which makes for a beautiful view. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. They make little snacks and rice balls for you and leave them for you in the entry way. They were attentive and since they're is only 5 rooms service is tailored specifically to you and your needs. The location is prime. Although you're not next to the beach you're right by the train station which has taxis and busses. All the beaches are equidistant. There is also a lot of restaurants in shimoda and cafes you can drive to or cab to. Not a lot of bars open late except soul bar but drinking on the beach is legal so just day drink if that's your thing. Beaches. Honestly there's too many but we saw Toji (drive there, no buses run through or cab stands) which has the ocean cave and shirahama which has white sand beaches and bring food and drinks directly to you on the beach.
Cons: The chairs and the tables are small so if your a bigger person it might difficult but such is Japanese culture. A lot of bugs but that's japan in the summer. Just close all your doors immediately especially with the onsen even if its the shower room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful place, lots of room, very comfortable futons my pillow was divine.. the private onsen and the wooden bath was a real treat too.. they welcomed us with traditional treats which were lovingly presented..
Cons: It was very hard for us to find it, google maps took us to a different place. I couldn't see any signs out the front .. we drove around the area till i found what looked like it could be the place..
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is very near to the station allowing easy access to many of the sightseeing locations. The owner contacted us for pickup prior to the date (please make sure you convey for their pickup service 1 day beforehand). Speaking English is a little challenging for the staffs but they have a big card to tell you what's what before checking in which makes communication easier as well. I usually use Google Translate and hoped for the best. The room is very clean and very huge. The room comes with a private onsen and a private Japanese garden. I recommend lighting the insect repellent and use it outside while you are bathing in the onsen because from my expereince, it definitely helped. All amenities are provided as well. The futon is very very comfortable and the sheets are clean. The owner lended my girlfriend 2 yukata because of 2 night stays and even helped her wear it. They also served mini onigiri and snacks which are very delicious. Overall stay is pleasant. Staffs have the Japanese service.
Cons: I can't find anything to fault this stay. However, because there is a Japanese garden outside, please be advised to alwayd close the insect net or door. We didn't have any issues with the insects but hope raise awareness for it, especially those mosquitoes.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Traditional, classic and great service. Very clean and lots of character.
Cons: Very little English spoken - can be quite a few bugs since it’s in garden with lots of trees. The lighting in the room could be improved. But I would definitely stay there again.

Pros: The property has a nice outdoor pool that is overlooking the sea. The outdoor onsen is relaxing. Although there is no view due to the fences installed, there is a sky view. It could be great on night sky full of stars.
Cons: The property cost doubles during weekend due to the long holiday in japan.

Pros: Room, though basic, was clean and tidy and provision of toothbrush, shampoo & bodywash + towels was handy. Staff were friendly and very helpful - without being asked - the owner even drove to the town when I left a valuble item in the room at checkout. どうもありがとうございました
Cons: It would have been helpful if the local guidebook in the room had an English translation. Even in late May, all the local restaurants were closed. The local authorities need to invest more in waste disposal facilities.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly couple running accomodation. Checked out at 5:30am and they were extremely accommodating with early checkout time.
Cons: Couldn't find the washing machine although it was late at night and we never asked.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: -K's room offered me direct offer for meal options and personal request confirmation which no other booking property has done and I was happy for their follow-up. Dinner was optional with additional 3000 yen and breakfast 1000 yen for myself and my son had free offer of rice and miso-soup which was sufficient for him. Food was great and worth it. -A request to prepare a non-smoking room: they did not have non-smoking room but actual room had no smell at all and was very clean We arrived at hotel a bit earlier than check-in time but hotel allowed us early check-in without additional charge -Small refrigerator and air-conditioner were work fine -Free wps wifi -Although my son was too tired to do Hanabi, they offered a Hanabi place at their parking-lot with a bucket -After check-out, they kept our baggage with valuables with safe place with free charge so we did not have to worry about it and enjoyed more beach time -Free shower (water) after check-out
Cons: -Not hotel's problem but there was a wild monkey around and at the same time we were lucky to see them, a mother monkey tried to threaten my son on the way back to hotel -Unless you are fond of Japanese meal (Fish or raw fish), you may prepare your own food or go buy food near-by convenience stores, or you could pre-submit food request with your own choices as the owner seems to be very flexible
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The neiborhood is beautiful and the place is really peaceful no noisy at all and morning wake up near the beach with bird song. surrounded by green forest.
Cons: If I can ask the staff to change the matress and pillows for more confort will be so much better for him as for us
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful, very willing to answer questions. They could speak simple English. Toiletries like toothbrush, soap, shampoo and towels are provided. The room and bathroom was very clean. Free coffee and tea was provided at the common area.
Cons: A little out of the way because it's quite a walk in (about 10min walk). Could feel a little dangerous at night. Also, no food is provided in the accommodation so the nearest place to go and eat is 7-11. Signage instructions in the place are all in Japanese so it might be difficult for someone who does not know Japanese language. A small problem was that my room's aircon did switch off in the middle of the night and I couldn't switch it on again afterwards. As I was already checking out, I didn't bother but I am sure the owners would be more than willing to help fix it if such a thing happens.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good position, five minutes from the beach. The staff is very friendly
