We really enjoyed the dinner we had in the hotel restaurant. Our waiter, Andre was fantastic. Our room was in dire need of an overhaul. The drapes and bed hangings were faded and ragged.
The room size was very good Staff were not overly helpful. I asked on arrival that I was going out in the evening & would not return until around 1am. I was told that the doors would be locked however to ring the bell & someone would let me in. I did this however it took 15 mins for someone to open the door. The temperature outside was freezing.
the comfort and cleanliness of the room and excellent breakfast
The room was huge!, the staff were excellent and really helpful and the breakfast was certainly worth getting up for. I did not realise that the hotel was so far away from the town centre, as we got a train down we found we had to either walk quite a distance or get public transport, but it was not that bad.
1. the sea view, 2. the architecture of the sea front side of the hotel 3. a lot of space in the room the bathroom equipment, the oldfashioned uncomfortable two taps, no place for placing what one needs there, the guilding of the taps doesn't make up for the missing modern bathroom comfort, from the bed you have no way of switching on light in the dark safely
Sea front location and ease of (free) parking directly outside the hotel. Restaurant staff were wonderful -menu was fabulous.
staff-attentive,very helpful with regard to disability.well run restaurant room problems-no fresh towels during our stay,no fresh drinking glasses during our stay
Size of the room - we booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children - space really helps with young children. Breakfast included fish options which was a bonus as we don't eat pork. Sky TV would have been appreciated. Bathrooms could do with modernising.
Seafront location, view of sea from room Scant on-site parking bed mattress needs replacement — springs coming out breakfast scheduled not early enough for me to eat and drive to a meeting Maitre d'Hotel at breakfast on 01 July 2007 was rude A 21st century hotel needs a fitness centre
large spacious rooms, good position, classical feel Bedroom windows need cleaning outside and your breakfast staff were clueless inasmuch as I do not think any of them spoke English and we had to ask coffee, toast, glasses, plates etc. They had to have a 'Manager' shouting at them every moment - hardly relaxing.
Very friendly, charming and helpful owners, pleased to meet any request, great breakfasts, brilliant supply of flu-mitigating medicine! No
A very peaceful, beautifully kept hotel. Very clean and the rooms immaculate. Breakfast was lovely and the hoteliers very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms were a little on the small side.
I loved receiving a glass of wine on arrival, after our jouney! A lovley touch! Nothing! Everything was great!
Very friendly staff. The room was in the basement, so quite dark. It was the room number that I booked, but I think that it should be made clear on the booking info that this is a basement room. If I had know, I would have booked a different room.
Lovely owners, newly refurbished, right on the sea front.
Never book see view rooms in mid season
Proprietors were wonderful; friendly and helpful. Great breakfasts. Wireless internet. no elevator, which is no problem if you don't mind stairs, and I don't.
The staff were so friendly and the room was perfect!! Made Christmas a great couple of days!
the couple was very friendly
the staff whre fantastic
hosts were friendly and helpful. Room was small but very clean and comfortable. Great breakfast with wide choice of food. Good location - on the beachfront and very handy to local pub and shop.
Friendliness of owners All the locks for each internal room e.g. The toilet and bathroom
Very friendly owners who looked after us well
friendly welcome and assistance
A traditional seaside Guest House, the host was very pleasant and cooked a nice breakfast. The price was a little high for the accomodation available and whilst not the fault of the Hotel this end of town is a little past its prime.
The attitude of the owners, excellent food, good size room. A clean and tidy guest house, that I would be happy to recommend to anyone. The only critisism I and my wife would have is that the beds are not very comfortable, and are quite low, we did not get a good nights sleep.
The friendly welcome The heating worked in the room but it did feel a bit cold. However, it was a very cold day and the temperature was below zero overnight.
Spotlessly clean, warm and friendly welcome, imaginative breakfast menu, very well cooked There was no shaver socket and it was not clear to us how to operate the shower
easy to locate,on sea front, fairly quit location, clean and comfortable room, all we needed for a nights stay, excellent breakfast, very friendly hosts, beutiful house.
Excellent view of the seafront. Convenient location Horrible beds
The room was very spacious and the bathroom very nice. When we returned home all of our clothing smelt of smoke, so we were left disappointed.
I really cannot fault this guest house, everything was spotlessly clean, good working order and had a lovely homely feeling. The gardens were beautiful and welcoming. None
Friendly owner staff and spotlessly clean well decorated rooms. Original features of the house kept in the decor. Excellent English breakfast. Only minor complaint was that the TV in the room was very small and we could only pick up 5 channels on an interior aerial.
Clean, well-presented hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. The decor of the room was not to my taste, but it was the only room they had available.
clean and comfortable my bathroom was across the corridor
A warm welcome and confortable room
2 cute cats and an excellent breakfast that included mushrooms. None to speak of.
Excellent B&B/Hotel. Very nicely furnished, helpful owners.
Excellent service, nice atmoshpere, lovely people who own it, outstanding room, overall fantastic! The full English Breakfast was great too! None really, slightly out of the way of the centre and seafront, but was not very noisy.
Good food, friendly staff, would stay again and recommend. None apart from the bar not functioning yet.
Very nice B&B. We were upgraded to rm.2 with a four poster bed. Lovely room very tastfully decorated with little nic- nacs in the room which made it very homely unlike the hotel rooms you find within the large hotel groups.
Very clean rooms and bathroom. Wide selection for breakfast. Friendly, helpful management and staff. Room quite small. Although it was late June, weather was not good, so lack of heating meant room was chilly.
A friendly, warm and beautifully decorated hotel. The breakfast was very good and the staff most helpful. The shower was a little hit and miss at times.
Service, breakfast and room were fantastic. The list of local places to eat was very useful. Location; Hastings & local areas in general were run down and full of litter. The area looked shabby, dated and in need of a few paint jobs, especially the sea-front.
Room furnishings - average, comfort of bed mattress - poor, bed posters loose and rattled during the night as you turned over, power shower - poor, carpet throughout hotel - poorly stained, breakfast - average quality and service extremely poor quality and rude.
Lovely house with friendly staff who are only too happy to help. None
Pleasant room but was led to believe that there was a setee in room. Great breakfast with helpful landlady. More an upmarket B & B than true hotel.
quiet location, comfortable room, good breakfast choice, value for money. i arrived after 8.00pm and there was no one to welcome me the key was left outside and i had to find my way to the room. If i had paid more then this would have been an issue but having stayed at more expensive accomodation and received worse service this is minor
Very pleasant guest house with some homely touches Good breakfast with pleasant service would recommend if stopping in this area of Hastings
the staff were very nice and welcoming, the room was very nice and the four poster bed was so comfortable. breakfast was delicious
Good value at price we paid (£80 per room per niight). Excellent breakfast and restaurant service. Evening meal very good but, as others have commented, a little bit pricey. I think many more people would eat in if menus were more competetive with other eating options in the area. Would be happy to revisit and recommend Claverton House.
In a word - faultless
Stayed one night but hope to go back sometime. Very friendly staff, nice room and an excellent dinner and breakfast
Food was superb, Table service first class. Indeed a 'country house' as advertised. Most relaxing. very little.
Enjoyed the grand accomdation with excellent food and service
Owners were very friendly and made you feel at home N/A
The staff were very helpful and efficient and the bedrooms very comfortable and warm. Small towels, cold plates at meals and no daily papers available
Just superb service all round. To answer Q3 below, it was price at first but now blown away by the place. Just superb Nothing at all.
hospitality, warmth, breakfast it was more a guest house than a hotel.
very lovely . set in gardens. breatfast to die for. the lady of the house was keen. helpful. and we chilled out. a great haven to escape
The spa treatments and the jacuzzi. There were no XXXL robes for the slightly larger generation.
This is the best UK hotel we have stayed in for years. The staff were friendly and efficient, the hotel was comfortable and individual, the food excellent, great swimming pool, Harveys Best Bitter, really comfotable bed, live piano music at Saturday dinner. Fantastic value for money
The Staff were helpful and welcoming, and the food was excellent, our trip was to see relatives and we all enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the hotel, which was also very relaxing as the lounge and dining room areas are very comfortable. I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at this hotel.
i thought it was a lovely hotel and the grounds were beautiful-i will definately stay there again. the bed mattress was horribly squeaky!! really badly so-every time you moved even slightly it groaned and creaked...
traditional feel and decor
My fiance and I stayed in the 'Best Room in the House' room and it really was! Everything about the room screamed luxury. The stylish decor, the enormous bed, the wall mounted flat screen TVs in the bedroom and bathroom, roll top bath, his and hers wash basins and stunning views of the hotel grounds. It was truly luxurious!
The food was amazing and very good value for money The service between courses in the restaurant was incredibly slow
Friendly and efficient staff No
I liked range of facilities . The food was average and the room not very clean
freindlyness and informative was the first enjoyment to this stay and the staff so wanting to please you and facility,s were first class and i cant complement the food enough
Penthouse suite was great. very roomy, lovely view. All mod cons. Even had duke box in room and Goldfish in the coffee table. Well worth the money for a special weekend.
I had an amazing romantic stay at the Zanzibar. My room was fantastic, beautiful design features and with the facilities in the room it was like staying at a spa! The staff were really friendly and helpful and I will definately recommend staying to all my friends.
Superb location, amenities fantastic.
Fantastic breakfast, in our room, with unspoilt seaview. 3% charge on deposit for a credit card payment. that should have been made clear before us giving payment details.
Zanzibar Hotel is really such a unique and special find, from the luxurious themed rooms, to the very friendly staff, making our stay very relaxed and chilled. The shelf filled with DVDs and books to watch and read at your own comfort added a different dimension from those generic hotels.
Staff was very friendly and service was good. This was not a hotel but a bed and breakfast. As such, the accommodations and general amenities were less than one might expect for a place presenting itself as a hotel. Also, when we placed our online reservation we were contacted the next day by the hotel telling us the room had been double booked. This was resolved when the other guest agreed to move to a more expensive room.
Location of the hotel, beach front views. We stayed in the manhatten, the fixtures and fittings seemed unfinished/poorly installed? Bathroom radiator missing, lights not working in wc (just lamps?) and at high level in lounge. You would exspect for the money the room to be immaculate.
Clean. Welcoming. Relaxed. Friendly. Quirky contemporary decor. Comfortable bed, Excellent quality of food. Attentive staff. Honesty bar. No real bad points. Even the location away from Old Town is not a serious problem. The soap dispenser in the bathroom needed a little attention - but not a serious problem. Can't fault this hotel.
Very friendly staff. Beautiful rooms. Full english breakfast served in the room. Easy walk into Hastings Old Town or £3.50 in a taxi. Ate at Lathams, recommended by the hotel and it was lovely. Nothing
Communal eating was a goood way to meet people
The steam room and jacussi/ pool. The walk on the beach. The food was good. The room I had had a very poorly decorated cieling- room 100, other than that it was a bit hot. I opened all the windows.
Single room spacious with super bathroom, and lots of very hot water. Good breakfast selection.
Convenient to the town. Easy access and parking. Very helpful staff .Warm atmosphere and enjoyable food in the bar restaurant. Missed a lift but the staff were most helpful with my luggage.
Friendlyness of staff No lift
The breakfast Our room was very hot despite there being no heating on.
It's very relaxing place for the business traveller to unwind and get ready for the next day!
Great Location and lovely people
Friendly Team, Clean and Tidy Rooms, Great Location for the Business Traveller to unwind.
staff really friendly and helpful, rooms comfortable and clean, excellent bathrooms, breakfast first class, definately return again and again
For a business traveller, it was a very relaxing and quiet establishment. Would recommend it to follow business people to stay in!
The bed was very comfortable! The room was not up to a good standard of cleanliness
Nothing at all the problem of car parking in the area was not dealt with by the Hotel except by a shrug of yhe shoulders - no box of change kept at Reception to help guests caught unawares by the problem. I spent half an hour driving around trying to find somewhere nearer than Rock a anore or the Shite Rock theatre to park. Had to get out of Hotel before 8 o clock to put ticket on car!!! At breakfast a plate of bacon and eggs was brought to me though I had not been asked if I wanted some or all of it. I eat a vegetarian diet and was not offered anything as an alternative. The "bath" towels were a joke size! The room was freezing on entry and the only means of heating a convector which could not really be left on at night as it just dried up the air. I wish I had paid the extra few pounds and gone to the Travel Lodge!
The receptionist was one of the nicest, most helpful people I've come across. She is a real asset to the hotel. The adjoining Indian restaurant was excellent. The bed was really uncomfortable.
the best part of my stay at the chatsworth was when i booked out. would not ever recommend anyone to stay there, maybe someone i really disliked. staff not informative at all, room not clean, shower room very poor, the room i stayed in had a continus rummble like a generator was running constantly, not very peaceful at all.
The Staff Heater in bathroom did not work
clean efficient and friendly
Staff Attention Only an Indian Restaurant in the Hotel.
comfortable, clean, good service for breakfast No Parking other than meter on the side of the road
The price, and location. There was much noise eminating from somewhere on the ground floor. This was probably outside of the hotel and therefore not in it's control to do anything about. Closing doors of other rooms seem to echo throughout the floor.
location no carpark. Also we ordered sanwhiches to our room and the bread was stale.
Exellent Breakfast Battle High Street is very noisy (Traffic) most of the time
Incredibly noisy location,be prepared for very little sleep-especially young children
Large clean toilet and bedroom.good value for 3 people staying for one night on a saturday Limited facilities,no bar or restaurant.stairs only. no lifts to upper floors. the contents of the cooked breakfast would just about fill 2 slices of bread.would only stay for one night.
good breakfast hotel undergoing major building work so expensive stay in a building site
Rooms nice Waited 25 minutes for a table at breakfast as staff were so slow in clearing them
Basic accommodation at an affordable price Clasified as 3 star which is misleading
The pillows were quite plump. That is it, Oh and the sausage I had for breakfast was good. Pretty much everything, threadbare carpet, damp, smelly room, way too expensive bearing in mind the hotel's facilities (none, if you discount the roof and walls). The staff were OK I suppose, but really, not in the least bit interested in the job. No shower either, exceedingly bad for the price.
The new owners are doing their utmost to provide good service, which we're confident will get even better. Fabulous Italian Restaurant on ground floor.
The staff were very pleasant, and the room was comfortable.
the sea view from the rooms the hygiene in the room
Great central location & very helpful nothing
The hotel room was perfect! Everyone from the staff were very friendly. The hotel services were very good. None.
Tony, who was working over the weekend, was extremely helpful. He gave very reasonable, clear recommendations. The hotel was well located. Street noise was a bit distracting on Saturday evening.
I liked the location, the view, and the overall area was decent I had to wait outside in the rain for nearly an hour because the front door was locked. They were understaffed and the only person on call was upstairs and couldn't hear me ringing the bell.
Excellent place to stay, staff were always helpful. No bad points
Great location, friendly staff, the rooms were clean Would be nice if you could have a breakfast too
Basic hotel, small room small price but no breakfast. Staff friendly and location very convenient
good friendly hotel
We liked the fact its postioned right next to the theatre, so we didnt have far to go for our entertainment. Just a little noisey outside, and in the coridors so we didnt get much of a lie in.
Nice hotel, perfect location. Car park conveniently behind the hotel. Staff very helpful. Bar/Restaurant served good food and had a nice atmosphere.
This hotel is almost unique in uk. It has no smoking anywhere in the hotel including all outside dining areas. Apart from being so refreshing, it is in a great location and all of room was in first class condition. Non
The Terrace Bar/Restaurant Pram access and limited parking
Newly renovated room with baths Ongoing interior and exterior work, lot's of 'wet paint' and solvent odors.
we were pleasantly greeted at arival. i liked the fact it had an en suite, and they made the bed with clean towels every morning. no breakfast included. we had a leak in our shower, which continued for the duration of our stay, the hall way to our room was very dark, the restaurant, wasn't very pleasant to stay in only had breakfast in the morning. no proper fairwell when we left, she just took the key off us.
The staff were pleasant, good food, nice comfortable hotel, great sea view, unfortunately the pier has burnt down but that would have looked nice too! Room was very hot.
The comfort of our room, it had been newly decorated and was perfect. The owners couldnt have been friendlier, the hotel had a nice feel about it although it still needs further decoration. The corridors were a bit narrow and I must admit I felt a bit nervous that night being on 3rd floor about getting out if a fire broke out
Sea view. Clean comfortable room. Tasteful decor. really good bathroom.
