A lovely country house hotel with bags of original features, yet with all the comfort one could possibly expect. Would definitely stay again. I found the whole experience very relaxing and luxurious. Didn't like the toilet being separate from main bathroom. No shower either.
This is a delightful country house hotel that oozes old fashioned charm. The walls are adorned with historic paintings and sports memorabilia. Within the extensive grounds there are ample sports facilities for all the family with lovely walks along the banks of the River Otter. Great breakfasts, friendly staff and rewarding retreat for nature lovers.
The charm of the place. A place you can hide away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. Good cooked English breakfast for those who are not veggi. Staff willing and did provide eggs, beans, toms and mushrooms. Overall we had a lovely stay and would go back at sometime if the place had a refit and new beds and linen. Room very out dated. Old quilts and mattress. Hand held shower, impossible to have a descent shower especially if you have trouble sitting in the bath. Also suggest a new white toilet seat as it was very old. I would like to suggest too (as I was a little disappointed) that they serve everyday, as there was no fresh berry fruits, natural yogurt and croissants.. You do not always want, orange juice, apple juice, tinned prunes and tinned grapefruit More variety definitely needed.
Excellent food, friendly staff, amazing location. However, we were told on internet that only one room was available. When we got there the hotel was virtually empty. Poor dribbly shower. Overall the hotel is in need of refurbishment
We loved the beautiful staircase and atmospheric log fires. Waking up to birdsong and getting right away from the rush and hustle of city life. Our mews rooms were clean, comfortable and had terrific character. The bed was very comfortable. The food at dinner was terrific and well served. There was a lighter room service menu but we would have liked this to be available some evenings in the main hotel. We enjoyed the walk down to the river despite being rather damp underfoot because of recent flooding. The staff were very responsive and did their best to put any niggles right. The rate we paid was very competitive, but we would have thought it was overpriced at the full rate. What a shame all the meals were served in a dining room where the wonderful views were completely blocked by a marquee. This was especially annnoying as the hotel was not busy and there were other dining areas available which were not used. Our mews rooms were cold and the radiators turned on and off by a timer with no access to turn them on at other times. A fan was supplied but this was noisy and quickly became stuffy. The shower head would not stay on and the bath was deep, narrow and difficult to get out of. The hot water was scalding in our room and only lukewarm in our son's room across the corridor. Access road was long, rough, muddy and very potholed.
We were only there for one night, but it was very comfortable, the staff were helpful and pleasant. Good choice of breakfasts, from the normal full English to haddock and poached egg etc. The bar was kept open until the early hours so we could have a nightcap when we got back that evening, but no noise or anything like that. I think this hotel would be lovely in the summer with the grounds and outside tables, they also have a swimming pool which looked like it would be nice. not really.
Good location, friendly helpful staff, food excellent, good fresh ingredients. Overall a pleasant hotel. The matress on the bed far to soft.
Very Quiet, Scenic Access roads very poor - single track poorly maintained Some facilities in room did not work Other facilities not looked after well
The hotel was a slightly eccentic charming country hotel, set in superb grounds. The staff and service were excelent - as was the food.
The sporting memorabilia was interesting to see and read. There are many parts of the hotel which are in a poor state of repair and it was not heated well considering the time of year. Access to the hotel is potholed and likely to do damage to ones car if not careful.
The chance to rest and the quiet helpfulness of the staff.
every thing ! food, setting, staff etc
The restaurant was modern and comfortable. The food was excellent and service very good.a lovely location. Our only complaint was the shower which was hand held and there was no enough force to have a good shower.
Food really excellent and views from room very good. The gardens were also very attractive and added greatly to ambience of hotel. The shower in the bath room was poor, should have raised with hotel when checking out but forgot. Did not detract from stay.
Fantastic location in the countryside with fabulous views from the restaurant and close proximity to Lyme Regis. Warm and friendly welcome and service. The bedroom was in the main house, beautifully decorated and thoughfully designed.
The food was very good. Thank you for an enjoyable short stay.
I would recommend this small hotel. It has great value for money. The restaurant is very good and the breakfast was delicious. Our room was adaquate partially updated could use a couple of updates, nothing serious. The bathroom could have tile floor instead of carpet and a bathmat would be better then the paper they were using.
garden. view. when the clouds parted beds too soft. bad for backs
Excellent venue with very attentive staff. Facilities and food very good.
Very pleasant rooms, met the expectation after reading the description on the web site. Great welcome and a fantastic location. None
Excellent surroundings. Staff very friendly and attentive. Very clean Might have done with a larger wardrobein the room and also a deeper chest of draws, but this is more of an observation than a critisism
We found the hotel to be in a beautiful location. Plus very relaxing
Staff very frienddly and helpful, including suggesting other places to eat, and rectifying problem (see other box). Hotel very clean, food excellent. The coridoor outside our room and our room had a strong smell of stagnant water when we arrived as the watermill had not been working for a while and (we beleive) stagnant water was held at the top. The staff did everything to rectify this - we were offered another room but as we were only there 1 more night we didn't bother. The staff put air fresheners in the coridoor which helped and also ran the mill wheel for a bit (even though it was broken which was why it had not been in use) to circulate the water.
the staff were very nice the food was excellent a wonderful resturant and the accommodation was good. we are very pleased we stayed here. It's an old mill so the sound proofing is not so good
The hotel was attractively furnished, comfortable lounge, and the staff were most welcoming, the grounds were particularly pleasant to walk around and we would stay there again.
Pretty setting and good public rooms Small eves room, sloping ceiling, tired furnishing and ancient patched woodchip wallpaper. Bathroom particulary poor
Lovely setting and excellent attentive staff. Comfortable bed and interesting to stay in a converted mill. Cracked my head on (the same) beam a couple of times but my fault really.
Quiet and peaceful
Very attractive building, comfortable bedrooms and helpful and responsive staff. Convenient parking. Good breakfast.
Friendly staff, excellent cuisine
The very friendly atmosphere, excellent cuisine and the excellent service from everyone. I shall recommend it to all my friends, neighbours etc. OK if you have a car but a bit out of the way I would think for some people. I understand that it was at one time a farm which is why it is where it is. It suited us.
Very comfortable and very clean. No
The staff wwere extemely warm, welcoming and helpful. Rooms were very nice - clean and comfortable. Good value for money. Thank you so much for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Good to excellent food , super friendly proprietors Room a little basic .
Very friendly staff.
The Staff were very friendley the food was exelent.
Room very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Restaurant food excellent. space to relax outside the room and free parking a bonus A little bit off the beaten track but very well signposted so no problems finding it.
My partner and myself were very pleased with our stay. The hotel was in superb condition and the room was above what was expected. We plan to stay in the hotel again in the near future.
Service and cleaniness Had to leave...!!
The facility was excellent, well layed out, nice decor, very comfortable. Nothing
Very friendly clean and excellent breakfast
Proprietiers were both friendly and welcoming. Apart from the usual farmyard noises and distant traffic it was peaceful and pleasant.
location friendly atmosphere very good food quiet location
wory relayed none
We enjoyed the comfortable and modern surroundings of our contained unit, and the novelty of having our breakfast brought to us from the main house each morning. The car parking area for the Bed and Breakfast could have been a little better - on a slight incline and stones.
A very friendly farm guest house with delightful owners. Very comfortable and well appointed room in quiet countryside but handy for the A303 for those travelling to the West Country.Would certainly stay again.
First class hospitality, beautiful setting, excellent room & one of the best B & B breakfasts I've ever had!
warm welcome.very comfortable room.excellent guest lounge.excellent breakast
This is principally a 'foodie' pub, serving excellent meals but that does not mean that the owners have neglected to lavish the same attention to detail on the accommodation. Modern light oak furniture, comfortable bed and stylish bathroom/shower made this a delightful find for an overnight stop. The owners are a very friendly couple, the atmosphere very welcoming. Very quiet location.
The peaceful relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff
Stayed for 4 night, very pleasant location, polite staff and a very good breakfast. Highly reccomended
food and breakfast good Shower was clean but had black mould on tiles
The friendliness of the owners and their staff. The excellent resaurant menu.
Friendly staff, flexible eating times Limited facilities for a 4* establishment. (eg no hair dryers in rooms)
Made to feel welcome by the friendly and helpfull staff. Excellant evening meals available, all served in a friendly atmosphere. It's nice to stay in a B & B where you can have a nice hot shower.
Service and assistance together with good food
Staff very welcoming, room very clean & comfortable, great breakfast in the morning, lovely country walks.
relaxed atmosphere the bed was too soft
Friendliness, hotel was more like a large Guest House or as they say in Aussie a Boutique Hotel. The pub opposite gave a another choice to eat and the publican and his wife (plus clientelle) made us as equally welcome. Can't think of anything
This was a fantastic find. Sara Louise was super, we were only sorry that we didn't eat here too. The whole experience was super
The location is great, the food is excellent and the facilities a of a very high standard
Very friendly service, excellent food interesting rooms with every detail considered. Rooms were quite small andd bathroom ventilation could be improved, the welcoming lounge offset lack of seating in the bedrooms
The food is amazing There are too many rules within the hotel. It makes it hard to relax.
Hospitality first class. Similar with breakfast. Basically pleasant change form chain hotels Bed not very comfortable. Could do with new matress
Excellent attention to detail
The owners were very friendly and made you feel very welcome. There were a lot of pluses, the really comfortable bed, the toiletries, the tea, coffeee and fruit juices. The breakfast was superb, and I would have liked to sample an evening meal, but time did not allow.
Warm welcome. Excellent dinner. Bathroom was very clean etc but it is very dated.
Friendly and cooperative attitude of Staff. Quality of food No
Food in restaurant was superb - good choice and presentation
Excellent restaurant service and food/wine Rooms were too small
Convenience of being on main road, easy to find in the dark. Friendliness of owner. Lovely bathroom, new towels and toiletries.Warm in minus temperatures.
very friendly staff. excellant food.
The hotel was very convenient and easy to find. We arrived early evening and all the outside lights were on giving an excellent first impression. There is ample parking and the exterior is very attractive, leading to high expectations. The food was delicious. The hotel seemed to be understaffed. We were shown to a room in an extension, accessed from outside. The staff member couldn't open the door and we had to carry our bags back to the foyer whilst she found another room for us. We then had to carry everything back outside to a room adjacent to the original one. The same lady was the only person on duty at dinner, other than the chef. She clearly could not do everything at once and so service was rather slow. The bed was rather small and I just think that £90 was very expensive for the quality of the accommodation and service
Over priced, adequate accomodation, friendly staff. Hotel up for sale, staff being made redundant, poor service due to staff and stock being run down.
Food Good Room very small and in need of refurbishment otherwise ok
Tim the manager was very helpful and friendly. The room we had the headboard on the bed rattled when you moved in the bed.
It was very quiet if this is what you looking for. Very little space for clothing once unpacked and nowhere to store suitcase. Garden patio area quite rundown. Minimal staffing levels.
