Pros. The bed was surprisingly comfortable
Cons. The room was very outdated and smelled musty. We had to sleep with the sliding glass door open to air out the room. Manageable but not what I would have expected.
Pros. Stayed in the Lodge, which was convenient for the wedding event held at the Publick House. The wedding itself and the main Inn were beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed the night. Staff, food, venue were all great. Also appreciated the fact that pets are welcome in the lodge.
Cons. The lodge accomodations definitely need updating. The bed was uncomfortable, the carpet and wallpaper were very aged and even the television looked like it was on its last leg. One of the outlets in the room pulled out of the wall when I unplugged from it. The dividers separating the access on the balcony do not go all the way to the floor, leaving about 12” of space exposed which did not leave me feeling secure as small pets, children or even an adult could move underneath if they wanted. On one side that also exposed a straight drop off to the 1st floor that seemed exceptionally unsafe for pets and small children. One of the rooms in the building we stayed in had a broken lock and the door was strapped closed, adding to the “no tell motel” atmosphere. The nightly room rate certainly included a premium for the proximity to the main house because the room itself left a lot to be desired.
Pros. Room was clean and comfortable. Function service attendants were very attentive
Pros. Historic aspect
Pros. setting and historic setting
Pros. The tavern in the lower level had excellent food and wait staff. I found this relaxing and enjoyable. The potted plants around the exterior and in the entry were beautiful.
Cons. No coffee pot in the room! The first thing I want in the a.m. is coffee.
Pros. Bed was comfy, hair dryer in room
Cons. No coffee maker in room, had to shlepp across parking lot to another building for ice, no fridge, because I was the driver my friend in next room would have a hike down to the main building if she wanted coffee in the morning
Pros. Rooms was clean and quiet. I actually had a great night of sleep in the bed. Had dinner in the tavern; chicken pot pie was quite good. Next time we plan to try the Inn.
Cons. Rooms could use some updating. Lots of toile: toile wallpaper, toile curtains, etc etc. I was a bit disappointed when our reservation stated the price included breakfast. In fact it includes coffee and a pastry. We went out for breakfast.
Pros. Lots of charm. Not a chain place. Very cute, clean, and different. Wonderful gardens .
Cons. It is really spread out almost like a mini resort which is good and bad.
