Check in swift, staff excellent, helpful and knowledgable. Location and views are second to none. Although unable to play golf, the course appears to be in good condition, challenging for all golfers! Breakfast cold, service non-existent, long wait for a buffet style breakfast, let alone coffee and toast. Bar staff consantly serving short pints, although always topped up without difficulty, hotel in good condition generally, although some areas required attention
The room we stayed in was very comfortable indeed,it had excellent facilities and the breakfast was lovely and so the overnight stay was very special and memorable. nothing
A spacious room. Helpful staff.Sunday's bar dinner was good and Monday's freshly cooked breakfast was very good. Sunday's buffet breakfast was disappointing, perhaps because we were rather late down.
I stayed overnight only but found the staff helpful and the hotel clean and tidy, I hope to take advantage if the spa facilities, which look very nice, at a later date my only problem was the colour of the scrambled eggs, they looked grey and rather un-appetising although they tasted OK
Have stayed before and it was as good as we remembered.
The available space in the room (two double beds plus plenty of other space). Clean & functional bathroom. View from windows. Nothing
As described on the website.Clean,comfortable.All the equipment functioned well.
Very spacious, well-equipped rooms with beautful views. Very good cooked breakfast. Needed a heated towel rail in the bathroom. Perhaps more fresh fruit at breakfast. Will be wonderful when the leisure facilties open. Will definitely be back.
the view over golf corse the room was tired looking and the bathroon could have a bit more luxurious, no heated towel rail !
It was only an overnight stay, I just wanted a clean and comfortable room for the night. No - everything was fine.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food could have been of a higher standard.
Nice location with good quality decor and gardens and very well equipped rooms. The price (very expensive) in comparison with other hotels we have stayed in throughout the UK. On more than one occassion we had to search the staff down to get served as it was so quiet. We found the resteraunt options to be pretty bland / lacking adventure/flavour.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay & would certainly return if down that way again. Lovely, peaceful garden, quiet location, friendly staff, great choice of evening meals & good value.
Good service and facilities. Excellent dinners. Easy parking.
A good size room. Poor bedside lights with small bulbs making reading at night very dificult. The T.V was not tuned to BBC1 or 2 .
The peace and quiet Poor mobile reception and lack wireless network
The staff were exceptional and were always friendly, helpful and nothing seemed too much for them. A credit to the hotel. The continental sockets next to the bed were quite annoying meaning we could not plug in a baby monitor so we had to have an extention lead draped across the room ( which the staff kindly supplied )
Very relaxed atmosphere. Staff very friendly and attentive but discreet. When we found a very small problem with our standard room we were upgraded immediately to a beautiful four -poster bedroom at no extra cost. Nothing
I have stayed at this hotel before and the hotel staff are very helpful and the surrounding area is exquisite.
Food rooms and curteous staff
Only ever stayed for one night many times prior to going and coming back from Spain via the tunnel. Comfortable beds, nice rooms and a good shower (makes a change not to have water all over the floor like many hotels). Breakfast is a feast and hot, dinner at night is also good will be back.
Good restaurant with well prepared food Shower in the room was almost impossible to adjust
Staff, much like the people in Ashford, were very nice. One of the front desk staff gave us a great recommendation and directions to a fantastic indian restaurant. Rooms are definitely not of the standard one would expect given the price and star rating. To say walls are thin is an understatement. Every noise from corridors and neighbouring rooms could be heard - including bathrooms. Rooms have been decorated, but are not maintained well - lots of large cobwebs and handle fell off door of the second room we were moved to (given the excess noise in the first). Second room whihc was a non-smoking room smelt badly of stale cigarettes. While staff/food were excellent, we could not ever recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nights sleep. Also disappointed that our request for a room at end of corridor / very quiet room, did not get transferred from booking.com to the hotel (according to the hotel).
I only stayed for the 1 night but found the staff friendly and helpful. I relaxed in the pool area and enjoyed a good nights sleep before my meeting the next day.
very comfortable room lack of facilities during renovation and particularly concerned for the large number of elderly / infirm people who had to climb stairs due to their being no lift available during the refurbishment.
All of the staff that we met at Ashford where extremely polite and friendly with a very professional manner. Very small point. The fantastic bathroom was let down by the stickers that had been stuck on the tiles (crooked) providing information and warnings.
the room was pleasing and a comfortable bed. yes, the refurbishment meant that the facilities were not up to standard, especially a make-shift restaurant with no windows/outside light.
The evening hotel staff were extremely friendly and we were not rushed at all during our meal I cut my foot in the pool area on a two pronged black 'tack' and had to get some first aid assistance - didnt seem to really be 'on the ball' but did give me spare plasters. Staff did not give the impression they knew how to use the stairlift down to the pool as my mother needed to us it and it took ages whilst they experimented with the different buttons and during all ths time everyone was watching my mum on their and couldnt get past and this was embarrassing for her. Under the DDA Regulations they should be totally prepared to accommodated customers with mobility impairments
Breakfast Hard Bed
The Spa area is cozy and the room was very nice. However, this is because we were given free upgrade to superior room. The staff. I would describe the receptionists as unfriendly or we were very unlucky to meet an unfriendly, hostile receptionist. The waiters in the restaurant were okay.
Was a wedding guest at wedding in hotel
relaxing stay, excellent friendly staff, good restaurant, nice grounds
the attention from the very friendly and helpful staff menu was difficult if dietary problems were appplicable -although staff did try to accommodate this problem
The location was very quiet and peaceful, the staff were very attentive and helpful, the breakfast was excellent.
Lots of green out there... No wireless in rooms..Too cold..
We were upgraded, which was great. The staff were friendly. Bathroom was not very clean. Hoovering the dining room whilst we were eatling breakfast.
Beautiful location and reasonable price. Decor starting to look a bit dated.
very relaxing & comfortable stay. everyone made you feel welcome. one of the rooms was above the kitchens, which was a bit noisy and smelly.
pool, jakuzi, steam room, sauna, breakfast, the evening meals were a bit fancy could do with some normal food on the menu evening meal as it was a bit fancy for us,would have liked sausage and mash or cod and chips or a nice casserole
Friendly staff, pleasant food
Helpful staff, good food, lovely room furnishing. No bar for residents after 11:00 p.m.
Staff friendly and helpful. Good location, easy access. Shabby decor/carpet stains
Friendliness of the staff
The room had been well refurbished and was well appointed
The on site bar and restraunt pleny of parking
staff very helpful, quiet room (which we asked for), good atmosphere
Ease of location and good value for money
All round a very good experience
It was easy to stay there, left to yourself. It was quite cold with the radiators not working properly.
very lovely . set in gardens. breatfast to die for. the lady of the house was keen. helpful. and we chilled out. a great haven to escape
Just superb service all round. To answer Q3 below, it was price at first but now blown away by the place. Just superb Nothing at all.
Owners were very friendly and made you feel at home N/A
Enjoyed the grand accomdation with excellent food and service
Stayed one night but hope to go back sometime. Very friendly staff, nice room and an excellent dinner and breakfast
The staff were very helpful and efficient and the bedrooms very comfortable and warm. Small towels, cold plates at meals and no daily papers available
hospitality, warmth, breakfast it was more a guest house than a hotel.
Good value at price we paid (£80 per room per niight). Excellent breakfast and restaurant service. Evening meal very good but, as others have commented, a little bit pricey. I think many more people would eat in if menus were more competetive with other eating options in the area. Would be happy to revisit and recommend Claverton House.
In a word - faultless
Food was superb, Table service first class. Indeed a 'country house' as advertised. Most relaxing. very little.
Pleasant modern decor;comfortable bed;good shower with plenty of instant hot water. A very good breakfast. The staff were pleasant, courteous and well intentioned. We stayed in room 3 which is above the bar area. It appears to us that it is hotel policy to play fairly modern music in all the public areas from 9am. to 11pm.The beat of this music was very intrusive in our bedroom; sitting in bed, trying to listen to the TV at a sociable volume was impossible. This rather let the hotel down.
decor, helpfull staff, and just happened to mention we were celebrating our anniversary ,and two glasses of champangne arrived, made us feel very welcomed. no
excellent location parking a problem and the breakfast should have been better for the price of this hotel
decor, bed comfort, food, bar and location (central). N/A
room nicely furnished overpriced, room (7) small & cramped, no air con!
food non existent car parking at the hotel. I think that the hotel should have given a free pass for the public car park at least.
Location, but complicated to park. Yes, a lot. When I booked I asked for a room on the top floor, they have four on the topfloor and one below. I got the one below. athere are no parking close to the hotel. When arriving I went in with the suitcases in a rush and asked them to give my wife the room key, because she felt ill. Thrre woman in the reception and they said yes they will handle it. It's really dificult to find parking so when I arrived 20 minutes later my wife was still sitting there and no one had help her to get the room. They are supose to have Wifi but I could not connect so I called the reception and they said they will get back to me rapidly. I waited almost two hours and then I told them again, nothing happened. Internet is my work so no good.
The luxurious comfort, location, cuisine and friendly helpful staff Nothing
The style of the furnishings was fabulous A small irritation, the tea strainer did not have its bowl, for some reason this was being used for jam, so there was no where to put it once you had poured your tea.
Everything. We found the hotel to be very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we would definatly recommend the hotel. parking was difficult
Fabulous beds! Full English breakfast is not worth the money.
Very comfortable room, the public area has yet to be renovated but it was ok. Handy for the eurostar also a short walk from restaurant for evening meal.
Very nice stay, friendly welcome, excellent breakfast
Our room was furnished to a very high standard and was very clean It did not mention that currently they are doing the hotel up, therefore the only facilities that are up to standard is the bedrooms.
The view from our room was over the garden and downs, we had the continental breakfast at £4 it was excellent vaue
room is good, the hotel may be better after finiching work, to find hotel very bad,
Very clean rooms! Excellent self-service breakfast with different cerials, fresh fruits and toast!
The rooms where immaculate and very well equiped with everything you could desire. The staff where extremly helpful and nothing was to much trouble. I really enjoyed staying at downsview, if you wish to stay at a hotel with the comfort of home, downsview is a sure choice.
feeling welcome despite very late arrival after ferry crossing, free upgrade to family suite, well heated room, very friendly breakfast service a shame breakfast is not included in the room rates
Nice place, with excellent staff.
The food was amazing and very good value for money The service between courses in the restaurant was incredibly slow
I liked range of facilities . The food was average and the room not very clean
freindlyness and informative was the first enjoyment to this stay and the staff so wanting to please you and facility,s were first class and i cant complement the food enough
This is the best UK hotel we have stayed in for years. The staff were friendly and efficient, the hotel was comfortable and individual, the food excellent, great swimming pool, Harveys Best Bitter, really comfotable bed, live piano music at Saturday dinner. Fantastic value for money
The Staff were helpful and welcoming, and the food was excellent, our trip was to see relatives and we all enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the hotel, which was also very relaxing as the lounge and dining room areas are very comfortable. I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at this hotel.
My fiance and I stayed in the 'Best Room in the House' room and it really was! Everything about the room screamed luxury. The stylish decor, the enormous bed, the wall mounted flat screen TVs in the bedroom and bathroom, roll top bath, his and hers wash basins and stunning views of the hotel grounds. It was truly luxurious!
traditional feel and decor
i thought it was a lovely hotel and the grounds were beautiful-i will definately stay there again. the bed mattress was horribly squeaky!! really badly so-every time you moved even slightly it groaned and creaked...
Friendly and efficient staff No
The spa treatments and the jacuzzi. There were no XXXL robes for the slightly larger generation.
Everything was without fault
Bike lock-up facility Vegetarian breakfast Friendly staff
Helpful staff Directions not as clear as they could have been Food only fair! But nowhere in Rye I tried was good - is this a comment on British standards? I wasn't looking for Michelin stars, only good 'home' cooking and some vegetables
We had come for a wedding, so our stay wasn't for very long, just overnight. Your staff were very helpful, polite and accomodating, especially as we needed to get into our rooms before 2.30p.m. Our room No. 6 was lovely. Both my Son's and Daughters-in-law's rooms No's 2 & 26 were quite small but adequate. Our room No.6 was too warm, as was room No. 26 but room No.2 was o.k. I don't know if this was to do with where the rooms were situated.
Exellent in every way.
The staff were very helpful and informative, indeed they were so helpful they allowed my partner and I to gain access to our apartment earlier than we were expecting as we had a wedding to attend. I would certainly recommend this hotel, the food was amongst the best we have experienced anywhere. 10 out of 10... There was nothing to dislike...
The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff were superb, polite, helpful and well trained. Nothing seemed too much bother. The food and drink was very good too.
Relaxed atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable. Enjoyed stay and would return. Excellent food. The signs outside looked a bit tired and did not reflect on the refurbishment in the hotel. No assistance offered with luggage as the stairs are quite steep.
Superb hotel Food a bit pricey
Convenient location Noisy room, close to motorway
Good room, good breakfasts, helpful staff, good location. would be happy to stay here again.
It was a good place for us to meet up with some friends. However, it was for the sad occasion of a funeral in the locality. My wife and I found the beds a little too soft to what we are used to.
Location excellent, easy access to all major roads,10mins to Ashford.Foyer, bar, restaurant clean and adequate.Room itself was clean, modern,,had all facilities required including internet access, bathroom spacious, clean Two maor problems ; 1. Specificallly aasked for non-smoking room, the room no.005,smelt of stale smoke (non-smoking sign on door).Simpley not good enough.2. Noisey. It was double-glazed,but the nois from the A20 100m away was noticeable,to the point that my partner slept with ear plugs in.Again Simpley not good enough. There is plenty of choice for this locality, this hotel chain needs to sort this out.
It was nice and clean, The bed was comfortble Yes. It was long way out of ashford and not siged posted well
Second time we have stayed here, only 30 minutes from Dover port allowing us to catch a ferry without a long drive and the hassle of the M25 and the Dartford Tunnel. Efficient service at check-in and breakfast!
Excellent friendly staff. Nice clean room, very comfortable stay
Everything about the hotel was fantastic No
Friendly, clean & very convenient, just off the m20. Would stay again. Nothing.
Clean and comforatable with good facilities. Does exactly what it says on the tin....... Nothing really
A fascinating buliding in an interesting part of town
Wonderfully quaint hotel right in the centre of Rye. Restaurant excellent, and car parking a big plus. Definitely not a formulaic chain hotel.
I've stayed at the Mermaid Inn many times including my wedding anniversary, its my favourite hotel in this country. Love it. Love sitting by the giants fireplace. The Mermaid is hundreds of years old, creaky floorboards and meant to be haunted, so if you don't like history don't stay. If you want a fantastic place to stay, in a beautiful town with countryside all around stay here. Camber sands beach is approx 4 miles away. No nothing
The staff were excellent and courteous. Breakfast superb. Room comfortable. Noisy guests interrupted sleep. Panelling between Walls didn't covert noise. Was misadvised about room having secret panels. Bath was clean but taps had parts missing hot water labelled cold.
The whole character and ambience made it a really lovely place to be. Food was first class and the service across the hotel was just great. Bathroom was rather tired and didnt really represent a hotel of thsi standing or indeed cost.
Although it was only for one night it was very relaxing and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is beautiful, and Rye a delightful place to visit. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely stay. Ideally we would have liked a bigger bathroom with a bath, but that's often the way in very old hotels.
The location is fantastic and the Inn is interesting. It seems that there is a vartiation in the standard of the rooms although they are all the same price. The room I was given was in the newer part (Georgian) part of the hotel, in the attic. There was no four poster bed. I asked about this and was told that this room was the same price as the rest as it was a 'superior' room. Not good value for the money I paid.
The character of the hotel
perfect little pub hotel, faultless
Helpful staff, efficient service, tasty food, spacious and modern accommodation
Cleanliness of room, breakfast service For a single, a little on the pricey side
Good Parking facilities which is important, very clean room, spoilt by one of the lights not working. Bathroom excellent NA
Friendly & gave impression of a Family run type of hotel. Exceptionally well run, all round enjoyable experience. Will recommend easily to anyone wanting to use facilities locally.
The room was excellent and the location very good. I thought the breakfast for vegetarians was very limited even having phoned previously to check their would be a good selection. The portion given for vegetarians was exceptionally small.
The rooms were comfortable and well equipped We stayed 2 nights on 2 separate occassions. The second time was very cold. Apparently they had problems with the heating - we learnt on departure. We had a very cold uncomfortable night!!
very pleasant setting and liked it since the first time I stayed there,
very helpful and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them
The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very homely, only item missing was the real fire in the lounge! Bedroom was good and comfortable and it was nice an quiet overnight - no sound of cars or revellers on the street! The food was not to the standard I would have expected of a country inn at the prices being charged. Lack of thought to presentation - a large "splodge" of mashed potatoes was on the plate with a breast of pheasant, and the same for fillet of lamb. Meat portions could have been slightly bigger. Breakfast in the morning was rather poor in quality - croissant was either stale or had been overheated, tea was not hot and service took too long,. Insufficent staff in morning for the number of guest coming down at one time., Would have been better to have done a self service cold buffet style breakfast and taken the pressure of the one girl serving and allowed guests to get their breakfast promptly.
Penthouse suite was great. very roomy, lovely view. All mod cons. Even had duke box in room and Goldfish in the coffee table. Well worth the money for a special weekend.
Staff was very friendly and service was good. This was not a hotel but a bed and breakfast. As such, the accommodations and general amenities were less than one might expect for a place presenting itself as a hotel. Also, when we placed our online reservation we were contacted the next day by the hotel telling us the room had been double booked. This was resolved when the other guest agreed to move to a more expensive room.
Very friendly staff. Beautiful rooms. Full english breakfast served in the room. Easy walk into Hastings Old Town or £3.50 in a taxi. Ate at Lathams, recommended by the hotel and it was lovely. Nothing
Fantastic breakfast, in our room, with unspoilt seaview. 3% charge on deposit for a credit card payment. that should have been made clear before us giving payment details.
Location of the hotel, beach front views. We stayed in the manhatten, the fixtures and fittings seemed unfinished/poorly installed? Bathroom radiator missing, lights not working in wc (just lamps?) and at high level in lounge. You would exspect for the money the room to be immaculate.
Superb location, amenities fantastic.
Zanzibar Hotel is really such a unique and special find, from the luxurious themed rooms, to the very friendly staff, making our stay very relaxed and chilled. The shelf filled with DVDs and books to watch and read at your own comfort added a different dimension from those generic hotels.
I had an amazing romantic stay at the Zanzibar. My room was fantastic, beautiful design features and with the facilities in the room it was like staying at a spa! The staff were really friendly and helpful and I will definately recommend staying to all my friends.
Clean. Welcoming. Relaxed. Friendly. Quirky contemporary decor. Comfortable bed, Excellent quality of food. Attentive staff. Honesty bar. No real bad points. Even the location away from Old Town is not a serious problem. The soap dispenser in the bathroom needed a little attention - but not a serious problem. Can't fault this hotel.
Communal eating was a goood way to meet people
