Hotel Route-Inn Toki - Toki - Building

7.7 Good (491 reviews)
Overview Reviews

5.8 Okay
Pros: Reasonably clean and comfortable, and while Toki is pretty bland and boring, a short drive will get you to both Nagoya, rural Gifu prefecture, and Kiso Mountains. A good stop on the road. What you would expect of a 3-star hotel; nothing more, nothing less. Free parking.
Cons: The price for one night is noticeably more than what I have had at really good 3-star hotels in both major cities (e.g. Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya), and at "touristy" destinations (seaside/lakeside/mountains). A mediocre (but acceptable) hotel in place like Toki should not be more costly than any of the above. More so if considering that the "western" side of the breakfast buffet was meh at best.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was good place just 500 meter from the Toki station. Staff was cooperative and things were in place what is expected from a 3 star hotel. Breakfast has western components.
Cons: 1. No English speaking staff. They just somehow survive with non-Japanese speaking guests. 2. Breakfast menus written all in Japanese and impossible to understand what is kept for eating. 3. No provision for currency exchange.

Pros: Hoping for a bath sponge next time.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: * next to Kachigawa station. 2min walk * close to Nagoya city * grand lobby * nice view of the city and train station * clean room and bathroom * early check in (1400) and late check out (1200/noon) * restaurants within facility
Cons: * no onsite laundry room * bed was extremely firm. I can feel the spring pressing against me. I didn’t have a good night sleep.
6.7 Good
Pros: I like the location,,good breakfast.. hope for additional time span..
Cons: Sometimes, the reservation room is not the one that i have when i checked in.. (wrong room),,
5.8 Okay
Pros: Staff were very helpful, speaks english, and accommodating
Cons: room was too pricey for the quality, only option around the area though
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. They allowed me to check in about 2 hours early! This is a beautiful hotel with pristine rooms located right next to Kachigawa Station, and yet the trains didn’t disturb me at all. Nice view, too!
Cons: I wish they had shared more information about breakfast. I found out too late that it was only until 9:00 am. I should have put a “do not disturb” sign on my door the first morning. I was awakened while sleeping off a migraine!

7.5 Good
Pros: Very roomy. Fabulous breakfast. Friendly and clean
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Free breakfast and coffee
Cons: Beds very hard. Moldy smell in bathroom
9.2 Excellent
Pros: ➕ The hotel was chosen for the proximity to Ena station, two stations away from Nakatsugawa station which has bus connections to Magome and Tsumago. It is a highway hotel, but it lays within a 1 km. walk from Ena station (12-ish minutes walk, or 20-ish if you have rolling luggage). There are plenty of shops around and a convenience store nearby. The main attraction of the town, Hiroshige Art Museum, lays roughly in between the hotel and the station. ➕ The room was all fine, and decent in size. The price was reasonable. There was very good wireless connectivity, and a LAN cable for wired internet. There weren't too many plugs, only three, but the plugs at the desk aren't affected by the key switch, so it's possible to leave stuff to charge over a day. The window can be opened for ventilation (but there is no mosquito net unfortunately. ➕ There is a restaurant in the hotel, which seems to be decently priced. There are three vending machines for non-alchoholic and alcoholic drinks, and one for snacks. There are two sets of washer-dryers in the men onsen area, and i would assume there are also two in the women onsen area. ➕ The hot bath was very good. Breakfast, which is a good buffet, ends at nine, but fortunately it was possible to arrive ten minutes before the end, and still there were all the choices.
Cons: ➖ The hotel is big in size, so washer-dryers were always occupied, had to wait for an open slot. ➖ The breakfast ending at nine of the morning feels a bit too early.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location
7.9 Good
Pros: This hotel is about a 15 minute walk from Ena station and the big attraction in the area is the Hiroshige woodblock print museum which is very close to the station. A MUST see! The rooms are quite compact but very clean and the free coffee machine in the lobby is a big bonus. They also have an artificial Hot Spring (segregated) communal bath on the ground floor. I did not use them but I believe this chain has laundry facilities too. This is a good hotel for hikers about to embark on walking the Nakasendo trail. You can catch the train from Ena to Nakatsugawa to start the walk. Breakfast buffet is quite good too.
Cons: There are not many restaurant options in the area but we did find a good local pub style Izakaya about a 15 minute walk away.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: nice staff, good dinner and breakfast. Good hotel spa. Spacious room.
Cons: internet access is not good in the guest room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view from our room of the river was beautiful and peaceful. The staff was wonderful and spoke a little English. The buffet had a wide variety of Japanese and Continental food. The shuttle bus to the train station was very convenient.
Cons: This resort caters to Japanese tourists. The staff and facilities were wonderful, but it could be a bit difficult for non-japanese speakers. No tattoos in the onsen seems a bit old fashioned.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The buffet dinner
Cons: The room had a strong bad odour, the building was old and worn out and needs renovations and there was no shower facilities in the room. The location was too far out of Ena.
7.5 Good
Pros: friendly staff. nice on Sen.
Cons: transportation takes time to hotel. more shuttle recommended.

8.6 Excellent (58 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at TOUTARO in Ena, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Enakyo Prefectural Natural Park and Hiroshige Museum of Art. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.1 Good
Pros: Japanese style breakfast, helpful minibus provided by the hotel between Ena station and the hotel. Good onsen.
Cons: Not much around the hotel - it is quite isolated, away from the town (there is a FamilyMart nearby).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very cute and comfortable Japanese style accommodation. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was great
Cons: It is quite a distance from Ena station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was superb. Amy was very helpful. She volunteered to send us to Ena station everyday. Food was good. Onsen was also nice. I also like the hot water and green tea that they prepared for us every day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Price is very good. Dinner n breakfast are excellent.
Cons: If private toilet is in the room will be perfect. Bath room is on the ground floor and hotel has no elevator, so for senior citizens like my group, the up and down is very tideous.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality was top-notch! Prompt communication in English, which was really appreciated. The staff were very friendly and helpful too, and shuttled us from the station to the minshuku, and then back to the town centre again for some sightseeing. They offered recommendations for lunch, which turned out really tasty and we all enjoyed it very much. No worries about the shared bath and washroom facilities - clean and easy to use, with a nice and steaming hot onsen as well! Both dinner and breakfast were lovely. Our two rooms were cosy and spacious, with very comfortable futons and buckwheat pillows that gave us a great night of sleep. Would absolutely return for a stay if I were in the area again.
Cons: Nothing at all!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were welcoming and the food was so homely. The baths were nice and the rooms were traditional Japanese.
Cons: We didn’t see much around but for us it was perfectly situated for walking the Nakasendō.
7.9 Good
Pros: I liked the traditional style and the possibility to use hot spring. If conctacted in advance, they provide free transfer service to pick us from and send us to Ena station
Cons: Curtain would be helpful to cover light (since windows are made of white paper and I woke up at 6 because of the sun light). There are not restaurants open for dinner in the nearby, and the station is more than 30 minutes far by feet (even if they offer free transfer service...but you have to know in advance the time of your arrival). We met only one persone of the staff speaking English

Pros: Nice little pension in small historical town, the hosts where very kind and took us from the train station by car, on the next day they took us to by their car to Magome (starting point for kiso vally) it's about 30 mints by car !
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great little place in a town that seemed to be empty at the time, but has tourist potential. The owner doesn’t speak English so it was a bit challenging to make things work - but we managed nonetheless. She pointed us to go to Iwamura Castle, walk around and we discovered some great cafes and izakayas around the place for evening of beers....
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The kitchen was nice and big. The owner was incredibly nice and helpful. The shower-room was big and showers were super hot (a good thing!).
Cons: The first floor with the kitchen could be a bit chilly/cold, but the owner turned on the heaters pretty much all day, so not really a problem. Bring some extra clothes.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Toki, the host, is just wonderful! We stayed at a beautiful Ryokan. It was clean and calm. The small town Iwamura is just amazing. So unique! Thank you for a lovely time. We highly recommend the Goheimochi at the main street!
Cons: We loved the place! However, at the first night the four guests at the guest-house were smoking non stop in the shared dinning room. The smoke reached our room and the entire house was filled with smoke :(
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful hospitality and very clean facilities. The guest house is a fairly recent remodel in an older building. The town was cute and looks to be working on revitalizing their historic main street, I'd like to see how things progress going forward.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It’s located in a small town close to the famous villages of Magome and Tsumago. We arrived there just for chance and we discovered an other nice small and very quiet town in the area. From the hostel you can visit on food the ruins of the Iwamura Castle. We slept in a female shared room, we were alone in the room. Nice and comfortable rooms. Kitchen equipped with all necessary for cocking. Free coffee and tea. Clean showers and bathrooms. The woman who attended us was very kind, although she speaks very little English, but she found for us a near free parking and gave us very useful information.
Cons: We paid less in any other hostel during our trip.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The lady host is very kind and caring, she make sure we had our dinner the night we arrived. She even drove us to a restaurant when the nearby one was full. The guest house is clean, warm and comfortable.
Cons: nothing.

Pros: We loved Keiko. She collected us from the very cute Akutsi line train and was welcoming and helpful. We arrived about 6 pm and had to get to town to eat. She offered us a ride but we walked. A gorgeous country side and about 30 mins to some very nice restaurants. It is a really interesting area with lots to do. Then Keiko dropped us to the station when we left. Really helpful and very sweet and kind. Arigartou Keiko
Cons: There was nothing that we disliked

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was very clean and calm despite a little bit noisy air conditioning. The buffet of breakfast is generous, diverse, mostly of Japanese style, and good.
Cons: Do not expect to have a staff fluent in english. They are very kind but are not too much able to communicate in english.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location Good Wifi
4.2 Okay
Pros: Nothing. Really nothing!
Cons: I booked 3 rooms but the staff separated 3 rooms in 3 different floors! Since the other two rooms were for the elderly, I requested the staff to give me all rooms in one floor. He finally did it but need my insistence. I booked non-smoking rooms but the cigarette smell was strong in the rooms. The mattress was convex in shape and I was the first time that I came across in my 30 years travel!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived after 2am from our outing and there were only 1 disabled parking left, but the staff member allowed us to use the parking. I was late for breakfast and the dining room was closed, but i was allowed to eat with the staff. Full marks to the staff on day and night shift.

7.9 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Nothing
6.7 Good
Pros: Close to the rail station, breakfast was reasonable.
Cons: The room and facitilies are a little out dated.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast has a good variety; some western and traditional Japanese breakfast items. Amenities were good: complimentary pajamas, choice of pillow, free water and tea in the lobby, nice onsen, complimentary items that go beyond your basic toothbrush, comb, and shampoo. Friendly staff. They were able to tell me what foods to avoid in the breakfast area because of my peanut allergy.
Cons: I’m 5’6” and about 130lbs, so the room and bathroom size were not a problem for me. Like most Japanese hotels, it is not plus size friendly. Trying the different breakfast items was great, but learn a bit of Japanese to let the staff know if you have any dietary restrictions. I’ve been studying Japanese for a while, so it wasn’t a problem asking for help. Also, I’m not a big fan of the escort services that surround the area.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location is excellent . Breakfast is good
Cons: Room is small

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The guesthouse was designed by the architect owner in great style. There is a beautiful garden outside the room where we enjoyed our breakfast. The spa experience was wonderful
Cons: nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The place was very nice, yet a bit far from the city center. We got free coffee and it was cozy warm thanks to a gas heater and an AC. We also got free tickets to a nearby onsen. The interior design was superb. It's perfect for couples.
Cons: It is a bit pricey, but you get a really nice stay. Also, there is only an outdoor shower, which might be a bit inconvenient to people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! My hosts were the very best in every way! You can't put a price on caring, from-the-heart service at every turn. And the accommodations, the view, the various most-thoughtful amenities...(stocked little fridge...with pay-per-item drinks, for example) were beyond expectations... Like a nice little "suite", really...that was very "sweet" to experience!
Cons: For me, it was "perfect", and I couldn't ask for better! (But for those traveling in the colder weather who are used to having "central heating", it might take some adjusting to deal with other heat sources...which were quite sufficient, but does take ongoing "adjusting" of temperatures.)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owner and manager is an architect and this is evident in the thought that went into the design of the space. Both the manager and his wife are extremely nice and we enjoyed talking with both of them. Bear in mind, however, that I speak Japanese and so conversation was very easy. Although they speak English it is not 100% fluent. I would also suggest that Tajimi is noted for its pottery and ceramic ware. If this is not something that interests you, then Tajimi will not likely be on your list of places in Japan to visit. For those who do make the trip I suggest renting a car because travel to the various museums and shops can not be done on foot and public transportation would not be efficient. Lastly, Tajimi Guest House has two rooms. The larger room has two beds the smaller room only one bed. Both are extremely tasteful in their design. The larger room does not have a shower and so you will be required to use the public bath. However, the bath (about 10 minutes by car and if you did not rent a car, the owner will drive you) is excellent and amazingly refreshing. Just be sure to brush up on the protocol for using a Japanese bath.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is beautiful and tranquil next to a park. Owner and his wife were very kind and helpful with all things. Breakfast was great!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room and nice service.
Cons: The location was too far from the station and museums and we had to depend on the owner for a ride. No bathroom to take a bath, though a toilet room was next to the bedroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hosts, Beautiful room, incredible breakfasts, cannot rate it high enough! We felt a warm welcome from the very beginning, were well looked after and felt very comfortable in such a beautifully designed home.
Cons: Nothing!!
