9.0 Excellent
Pros: A secluded, restored apartment in a small, historic village (no facilities - Villa Nova de Foz Coa is 15Km away). Breakfast was excellent. Swimming pool was well maintained. Aida was extremely helpful. Thank you.
Cons: We should have expected it, but the village has very narrow lanes and our in-car GPS got really lost. When you find the village, the signage was very helpful and the views and experience are well worth it.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is an outstanding place to stay. Although somewhat difficult to drive to, the amenities and views were terrific. It was one of the most beautiful suites we have ever stayed at.

Pros: Attention of the hostess. Sitting by the fireside
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is the second time we have stayed here and it still impresses us, i have brought motorcycling friends here for the past two years and they all have rated this place as there new favourite, it is lke going back to a forgotten time where everything is in slow motion, if you like the modern world this probably wont suit you, but if you want the real old Portugal with a castle on your door step then this is for you.the owner's dont speak much english but we communicated with good old fashioned gestures and hand signals, they organised a taxi for two nights to get us to the next town for dinner which was excellent and great value.
Cons: We all agreed that this place is a hidden gem and should not be improved or altered, we had no complaints or faults and thought it was fantastic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The warm welcome by the hosts, the beautiful setting.
Cons: The room was cold in spite a a big pile of covers but the setting, the warm fire in the sitting room, and the most generous hosts made it all worthwhile!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great (though remote) location, brilliant for walking in Faia Brava and on the long distance Coa Valley trail. Very nice facilities, great pool. They are preparing a beautiful short walking trail to a nearby viewing point (I saw a golden eagle above the village, and you can hear nightingales and red-necked night jars from within the village!). The staff tell me they are building a restaurant / indoor communal area which I'm sure will enhance things further. Charming old village. A few dogs around to bark occasionally, depending which bit of complex you're in, but that seems standard in Portugal! Good luck to this enterprising project.
Cons: Currently it's 20km or so to a restaurant, but they are changing this. When they complete their restaurant it will have a great view and be a perfect place to relax. I will come back!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The stone work and village are amazing
Cons: Wifi was only available in reception
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to stay in real Portugal village , but with comfort - this is the place. Only few people live in the village, so no shops or restaurants. In the morning you could see real rural life. We will come back!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Cidadelhe is a pictoresque stone village with beautiful surrounding landscape. The family that runs the hotel is the perfect host, always making sure we're comfortable and have everything we need. Large and pleasant swimming pool. Very quiet. Price/quality difficult to beat in Portugal. Very complete breakfast served at budget price. The hosts have a sound knowledge of the region and can advice on best visits and trackings. We're a Portuguese-Dutch family of five; the children specially enjoyed the one-week stay. Spotting wild horses nearby, all the hours spent at the pool and the kindness of these hosts will be remembered. Obrigado!
Cons: The interior decoration of the rooms could have more elements of the region and sort of landscape. It could be a hotel/hostel room anywhere in any small town and not an accommodation that reflects its surroundings.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very friendly and helpful!!! We didn't realise there was a swimming pool, which was so exciting as it was 38 degrees when we were there. The village has to be seen to be believed, stunning and I'm sure very much in the up once the restoration is complete. It was very romantic and with so much history - everything is made of solid granite. They just opened a new museum there for the pallium made in 1707- see Jose saramago, journey to Portugal.
Cons: At the moment there are no shops / bars in the village so you need to bring everything with you. It's quite a drive from the nearby town so this takes some planning, however the roads are fine and the area is beautiful to drive though. There is a fridge and a microwave that you can use at the property. Google maps tried to send us to Pinhel, but the property is in Cidadelhe so watch out for this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was cozy, clean and warm and the people working there very kind and helpful. We loved the atmosphere in this little village, which seems to have so much history to offer and lies in a beautiful landscape. The breakfast is definitive worth the money and be aware that there are no shops or restaurants in Cidadelhe! And dont do the same mistake as we did and just stay for one night ;).
Cons: Not too easy to find, but possible with google maps :D.

Cons: We have nothing to say here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a real treat to stay at Chao Dordem, it's a proper farm and also feels like a real Portugese country family home. If you want to try all the delicious homemade stuff at breakfast you'll have to stay more than one night. And it is an excellent base for a visit to the Palaeolithic rock art - if you want a tour in English book it at the museum.
Cons: It was quite hard to find. Take the N102 south out of Vila Nova a d watch out for a left turn beyond Muxagata passing underneath the main road
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property has character; staff were very kind and diligent.
6.7 Good
Pros: As expected for such a rural location the accommodation was basic but adequate, Evening meal at additional cost was very good and plentiful, enough meat to feed us for a week.
Cons: The plastic chairs by the pool needed careful selection, some were in a state of collapse. Not the Quinta's fault but our hire vehicle sat nav did not recognise the rural location, fortunately I had checked google earth beforehand and knew roughly where it was.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Delightful Agro turismo farmhouse with home cooked food pleasant owners. Bfast included great value, facilities basic but ultra clean . We opted to eat two nights and food was great, good wholesome home cooked fare. As much as you could eat with their own red and white wine followed by great desserts and again their own sweet wine. Wonderful meal and fantastic value at 20 euros a head.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything about Quinta do Chau D'Ordem was wonderful. We didn't know what to expect when we booked it. The relaxing, friendly atmosphere was a great ending to our vacation.

Pros: The house is in a small village, to be open there is not a lot around, but nature. So we enjoyed the quiet time. The room was very nice, all furniture new, bathroom new and good. The kitchen we were allowed to use was perfect. The Breakfast was provided by mother of the owner. Very friendly, good varierity of local products. Even so we do not speak Portugese we had fun communicating and got all Information and help we asked for.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful hostess, fantastic breakfast of oranges and other fruit from the garden plus other goodies.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful Place in the middle of nowhere. Rita and her Mum where both beautiful. Her mum made a very very delicious and big breakfast in the morning - we where totally surprised of all the things she made. We had a good talk with Rita before we left - she is really friendly. If you can manage to get out that far in Portugals country you should come - totally relaxing place with the most newest furniture I have seen in on my trip. Very clean and comfortable Room! =)
Cons: Rita speaks good English but unfortunately the people of the village don´t so communication is a bit hard - but if you speak french, spanish or portuguese i am shure you will have good conversations there! Also the Roads to the place are a bit adventurous but manageable if you are a good driver ;)
6.3 Good
Pros: The owner is very friendly and very committed to give us the best breakfast possible. Her homemade jam was delicious and breakfast was really great! The bedroom was clean and neat, although interior decoration doesn't add up with the rest in my opinion...
Cons: I was a little disappointed because I didn't get the country house feeling at this place. We have to call and wait for the staff to do the check-in, there was no one on site and that is the first time that happened to me in this kind of accomodation. The sound isolation was nonexistent and I woke up every time other guests were leaving, from the moment they were in the shower until they actually left, which started at 6am... It was the poorest night sleep I ever had in hotels and country houses.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and property had modern interior and very clean. Our host was lovely and very obliging. Excellent breakfast, wouldn’t hesitate to re visit.
Cons: Bed had a slightly hard mattress for me.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality was excellent. There was a very good restaurant nearby.
Cons: It was quite a remote village.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great find in the mountains close to the town of Torre de Moncorvo. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and pleasant ... breakfast was included in the price and was really good. The surrounding village was pretty and peaceful and the views across the valley were to die for. We chose to eat in the local restaurant, which was within walking distance. The owners were very nice. There was no menu to speak of, but they cooked us a very nice plate of steak and chips and salad for a very reasonable rate. The view from the terrace was amazing.
Cons: Only one place to eat in the village, other restaurants 12 minute drive away.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was huge . Modern facilities . Friendly staff
Cons: Getting to location very narrow roads

7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast is a real feast - a nice touch is that all guests eat at a common immense breakfast table
Cons: The bathroom "features" a distinct smell of leaky plumbing - according to the staff this depends on the weather. Keep the bathroom door well closed!
5.4 Okay
Pros: The hotel is situated in an old villa in the middle of the old part of the town, so everything is close by.
Cons: The staff mixed up the reservations and was not willing to admit it nor mitigate the situation. The communication was very difficult and some of the staff was really unhelpful. Also the walls between the rooms are quite thin and you can hear everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old house with small garden
Cons: Torre de Moncorvo has a lovely old town centre, which needs more residents

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Unusual with lots of antiques. Very comfortable beds and modern bathroom in an old house. Good breakfast. We appreciated being able to make a cup of tea. Our visit coincided with a village festival (Assumption of Mary) and the place was fun with dancing in the square and a lovely atmosphere.
Cons: Nothing really. Perhaps our coffee could have been hotter for perfection but it was hard to fault.
7.1 Good
Pros: The central location and the staff. Nice courtyard with tables and chairs. Rich breakfast.
Cons: Old kind of historic big house probably never renovated, unattractive old museum style furniture, my bathroom smelled like sewage, all house with jute carpeted floors and in my room the carpet near the window had many stains giving me some breathing allergies.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: On booking
Cons: Nothing!!! It was perfect .

The building has been beautifully restored and the various areas within are very welcoming and comfortable. The room was very comfortable, linen, superb and bathroom spotless clean. The outdoor pool area was excellent and being heated was an added luxury. Staff were very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. We would book this hotel again if we are ever in the area.

Pros: Excellent and very friendly staff Fantastic dinner - great taste!!! Very quiet Parque de Côa not far away Interesting mix of styles in building: old vs new Muito obrigado a Jessica, Andreia e Catia!!!
Cons: Relatively small room
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice calm location, in an old farm recovered building, with tasteful decor. Oat milk for breakfast!
Cons: Although it was nice that there was oat milk for breakfast, there were no eggs nor a way to request a hot meal so the breakfast experience felt a bit poor. The room insulation is not very nice, due to all the wood.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The place gives a feeling of remoteness and calmness, the setting is beautiful, the chalet charming and romantic. Not luxurious, doesn't really pamper you with extras, but the location on the water, the view, the quiet, the sunrise, these are the attractions that made this stay special for us. We only wished we have stayed longer. Other than that: The owner is very helpful and friendly, offering interesting discussions on Portugal, tips on local restaurant and help in booking a local wine-tasting visit. The chalet is cozy and well-equipped, though the bedroom is tiny (did not bother us).
Cons: Not much, really. I don't know how it is in high season, but when we stayed here (October '19) we were practically alone, which was super. For dinner you have to drive ~20 minutes up the steep narrow road, but that was not a real problem. Breakfast is very basic, but ample fresh fruits awaited us in the room which we really enjoyed and appreciated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view was amazing! The woman at the check in was super nice and the breakfast basket you get is a great idea, you can have breakfast on you terrace whenever you want. Definitely recomend this place!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very boutique kind of experience. Full of peace and minimality. Extraordinary point of nature in Douro valley. We stayed at boat. So simple, relaxed, romantic and beautiful experience. Staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. Daughter of the owner Luisa is a “querida”. She is helpful in everything. This is a very special experience. Do not seek luxury like in hotels, this is something different but beautiful and unforgetable! Also douro tour that they offer is such special thing to of. The restaurant we had lunch is dar beyond all!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, the view, the quietness, Jose hospitality, the chalet and more!
Cons: Not staying longer!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is a cozy cabin with wonderful views of the Douro River (you are right at the shore), vineyards and train (across the river). It must be heavenly in summer with the outdoor seating, BBQ facilities, swimming pool and the kayaks that are made available to guests. There are orange and kiwi trees right outside! We had a wonderful tour and port wine tasting at Quevado, about 20 minute drive away in S. Joao de P.
Cons: Lighting in main room could be improved and a cutting board would be useful in the kitchenette.

Pros: Very friendly place in the city center. Everything was OK.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Localisation is very central, the property is comfortable and very clean
Cons: The room actually has no door between the bedroom and the toilet.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was super nice, very flexible with breakfast time. We could use the kitchen so for me was a good to be able to cook something (I am vegetarian! :) ) the hotel is in the city centre. very close to supermarket and restaurants.
Cons: The entrance. There's no sidewalk and cars pass really close to the entrance. A bit dangerous. They should change it or talk with the municipality. Also, I could hear the conversations coming from the downstairs floor through the pipes in the bathroom. I know it's weird but it's true.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A hip, modern boutique hotel in the center of town.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: What a lucky find, a modern boutique hotel in the middle of a traditional old Portuguese town. Excellent host spoke very good English and was very helpful. Rooms very modern and clean however the clear glass bathroom doors were unusual!!. Breakfast was excellent. Bars and Restaurants in easy walking distance.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike about this hotel

Pros: The room was beautifully decorated, as was the restaurant. Stunning gardens. The fact that all rooms are different and self sufficient as well as the choice to eat in the restaurant is great. The town feels unspoiled and the views from the castle are incredible. The family run feel was really lovely and made the stay all the more unique. I will 100% recommend to friends and family - casa do Coro was a wonderful experience from the grounds to the food. We didn’t want to leave and already want to book again.
Cons: The only thing I could suggest is a longer music playlist at the pool
9.6 Excellent
Pros: the property is impecably manicured and beautifully arranged. The rooms are very comfortable, the pool is especially beautiful and the restaurant is stunning (foodwise, I mean).
Cons: In a place like this, I want to hear the birds, not music (in the pool and during meals)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere - like an old village - and the high quality level of spaces and services.
Cons: Perfect stay, congratulations to owners and team!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: 7 Books House was a magnificent surprise, a home designed by one of Portugals top architects. Nuno, the host, was exceptional. He even gave us a guided tour around the castle ruins them we stopped by a local place for food and drink. He is pleasant, intelligent, and and a nice guy. Someone you would want to have as a friend.
Cons: Nothing could have been better.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Good breakfast on first day
Cons: A/C and plugs not working. There was heating but not enough for the cold night. Since it is not an hotel, is more of a rented house wich is colder and doesn’t get very cosy. Most of the time you have no staff arround, even during breakfast. Breakfast on the second day not great. Coffe was not done and other ingredients missing. Definitly below my expectations.
7.5 Good
Pros: Fire was lit as it was cold weather. Good pizzeria down the road
Cons: Cold house (weather was cold), average breakfast, bed not massive
5.4 Okay
Pros: We enjoy the design off the house and the reception from Mr Nuno.
Cons: We understand that this time off the year is not easy, but we didn't had a warm house, some problem that couldn't be solved, was no one to clean ours rooms and toilets, no clean towels, and no place to dry the used ones, the breakfast was never at the same time, the firs day we didn't had coffee, we had to ask for it. Mr Nuno was very friendly, but couldn't solve any off the problems that we had in the house. If there's no one to clean and make sure the guests needs are at first place, then why rent the rooms. We booked from 23-27 December and we left the 25... because we couldn't sleep in a cold place anymore. We only stayed until the 25 because my partners family live close by, and we came to spend Christmas in family.

6.0 Good
Pros: The bed
Cons: The restaurant. The food. The service
8.8 Excellent
Pros: nice hotel, room with plenty of space
Cons: hot pool was a little bit small, much too little sunbeds (only 8 or so for a lot of more people), corridors were too dark, price/performance ratio for the food in the restaurant not so good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The surroundings. The hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room, the exterior pool
Cons: only 1 out of the 7 “jacuzzi” exhausts of the pool was working. After mentioning this to the receptio, the situation stayed the same at least during the 2 days we were in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location: in a small village, but only 5 min from the nearest highway High standard architecture, but very functional. The breakfast is delicious and complete, and the restaurant have a nice variety and an excelent service, but is somewhat pricey. The exterior heated pool is amazing, and spa and thermal treatments are avaiable. The villages around allow nice walks great for discovery, history and good (and cheap) food. Côa valley prehistoric rock art is only 15 min away and is a must; Douro valley is also nearby, for train, boat or car tours.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious room with large window. Excellent shower. Very good buffet breakfast.
Cons: Not enough room lighting in the evening.

Pros: Very comfortable and recently refurbished.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was nice. Quiet location in beautiful nature. Everything worked, good shower and kitchen. Nice people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: amazing place
Cons: nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Lovely setting in a rural valley amidst the mountains above the Douro Valley. Farm buildings tastefully converted into a courtyard of guest cottages. Peaceful setting.
Cons: We were not warned about the following: Its 10 kilometres from the railway station with no nearby restaurants or shops from which to buy food. There were also no open restaurants or shops anywhere near the railway station. And taxis were very hard to get unless you pre booked. Great place if you have a hire car or are on a surprise crash diet or are fluent in Portuguese. Not so good if none of the above apply. The owner spoke no English and offered no help including when he went off to get an evening meal for himself.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and nice location (there’s nothing around). Very friendly personel, even whenwe had a problem with our dog, it only took a few minutes to come over.
Cons: The only problem we had was that we didn’t know there were 2 giant dogs on the property (sometimes 3 withe the neighbour dog). We do love dogs and they were very friendly but since our dog (labrador sized) is traumatised from huge dogs (twice his size), it was very difficult to get around. The owner did everything he could to help us and asked a lot how our dog was doing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful staff and beautiful view of the surroundings
Cons: Main bed was a bit short
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent stop over point before we went kayaking down the Douro. Clean and homely.

Pros: Very nice calm place with nice staff and excellent interior design. We loved the pool!!
Cons: Nothing!
Pros: the place is rural, with 21st facilities inside, the stuff is great, dinner and breakfast were as expected. All was good
Cons: the place, the service, the comfort, the facilities. All was great BUT the fact it was far away.

Pros: We were in Portugal over 3 weeks and this was our favorite breakfast and we had some good ones. The fresh baked still warm bread was the best ever.
Cons: Everything was great.

Pros: This is our second visit to Bairro do Casal. The hotel is very unique. The small homes have been wonderfully restored using local materials in very inventive ways. We spent a relaxing afternoon by the pool with its beautiful view and enjoyed the delicious breakfast, complete with fresh bread delivered to the door the next day!
Cons: Everything was great!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views, very comfortable, well equipped apartments, great breakfast, set in a quaint tiny old village, great dinner spot on the Douro 4km down the road, very friendly and welcoming owner. Couldn’t speak more highly about this place. The photos don’t do the place justice
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is an outstanding place to stay. Although somewhat difficult to drive to, the amenities and views were terrific. It was one of the most beautiful suites we have ever stayed at.
Cons: The drive through the village and up to the hotel is not for the faint-hearted.
