Staff very kind, good location
Location was great - used hotel for our base to travel through the Black Forest. Breakfast included in hotel rate. Most of our encounters with staff were positive, however, limited as we were away from hotel touring. Delicious breakfast. Charming small town. Hotel located on main road, easy to find. Sufficient parking. Room comfortable. Beautiful view from our bedroom balcony/deck. No complaints.
The hotel was easy to find, and in a lovely little village - central to many Black Forest excursions. Breakfast was wonderful! Our kids enjoyed the indoor pool as well. For a family with younger children, we found the hotel's restaurant to be on the pricey side (but this was true of all the restaurants in the village) - got the impression that it's not really a family hotel, though the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Same people didn't speak englich
The view from our balcony was terrific! Staff does not speak english, except for one employee who by the way was very nice. The pool closes too early.
We used the hotel as a base for day trips throughout southern Germany and Switzerland. The hotel was convenient to many wonderful places and a great place to come back to after a long day. The staff was "extremely" helpful and accommodating.
very good room, spacious, with my balcony overlooking the river/forest. a bit out of the way, but a travel pass is provided, and I think on the whole worth the extra bit of travel out of Freiburg to have the beautiful surroundings.
Two nigths stay-over on our return trip to DK, excellent restaurant and reasonable prices at the restaurant
Very friendly staff Did not sleep very well because bed was rather small and squeaky
Lovely staff and breakfast
Very efficiently run hotel. The hotel wasn't full while we were there but was somewhat disappointed with our rooms because the balcony had the roof of the function room/kitchen in front of it. Would have preferred a room with an unobstructed view.
Early check-in was useful and the location was quite good. Reception were friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Quality of the "Comfort" room was poor for the price (especially considering the hotel group running it). Bathroom very old and cramped. The hotel itself was a typical Schwarzwald hotel style but although balconies had flower troughs there were no plants in them (mid-summer) yet all houses and hotels in the vicinity did. Slow service in bar/restuarant. Dinner menu and breakfast choice a bit limited/poor. Hotel rating didn't match reality. Website did not mention trainline runs past hotel.
Everything was excellent. I like it so much. Next time, I will stay at it.
The location of the hotel is right on the edge of the Black Forest, which made a hike quite easy to do. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was perfectly located for our visit - Europa Park, Triberg, and Felburg.
The peace and quiet, and the extremely courteous and efficient service.
Extremely helpful staff; comfortable accommodation; lovely food; excellent location; appreciated the tourist card which allowed us to travel on the train. we will be going back !
Friendly staff and management and exellent quality of the food We missed a kettle in the room to make our own coffee and or tea
very nice hotel and friendly people.
The staff are very friendly, patient and helpful. The food in its restaurant is so far the best we have during our entire 3 weeks holiday in Germany.
friendly, helpful and considerate staff, a lovely stay and an excellent dinner. n/a
Very helpful and courteous staff. Extremely generous size of room, with the added bonus of a large balcony. Although we were on a leisure trip this hotel's facilities were very good for corporate hospitality/seminars etc.
Good hotel, quiet, nice surrounding, only 15 min from highway
The staff was extremly helpful and polite at all times. The rooms are very big and nicely decorated. It is a very peaceful hotel and the beds were very comfy :). Breakfast buffet is excellent. The room was clean and the staff was ever so helpful nothing was too much to ask. The location is great too, we didn't spend too much time in the hotel during the day but everything was so quiet. We had a brilliant time and would definitely recommend it to all our friends.
Although you need to get precise directions as it is quite hard to find, when you get there it has a pleasant restaurant and a very rural setting overlooking a corn field. We stayed in a "Comfort Double room" we thought that it was worthwhile to pay a few extra Euros, so we can't comment on the lower grade rooms, but ours was good. The usual difficulty with hard beds, but that is expected in central and eastern Europe. No aircon., too, so it could be a problem in high summer. It was clean and comfortable, ok for one night stay. Hard to find and had almost no English service, or choice of English tv programming. Not much to do in that area.
First class at reasonable rate. Dining room excellent, food great, service the best in our 6 week trip. Breakfast more than generous.
Location is good, facilities are clean and modern, restaurant and the food served there is good. When we arrived back to hotel in the evening, the parking lot outside was full. Maybe a little bit too small.
big room.breakfast. no safety-deposit box. no elevator .wireless internet was very expensive.
it was quiet and very nice to leave the balcony window open at night to sleep in the country side not enought local directions. Thank God for my GPS system
The room is large, clean and comfortable enough. The selection of TV channels could be larger, though. The price/performance ratio is good. We arrived at 11:30 PM, and the hotel was closed shut. There was no one at the reception desk to let us in. We had to scream our way in, only to be informed that "we should not arrive so late" - where was that stated? After all, this claims to be a *tourism hotel*! After we explained that there was *no mention* in the booking system of any need to call if one is arriving later than a certain time, the lady at the reception desk apologized and tried to make amends - and she was honest about it. It was, nevertheless, a really frustrating experience.
The food served was excellent. The staff were competent and generally helpful. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Breakfasts were very good. Bathroom, bath was incredibly small and only hand held shower
Friendly and warm atmosphere.
The hotel is quiet and pleasant. The rooms need fans in the warmer season--AC is not necessary, but a fan would have made our stay more comfortable. The staff is very friendly, the hotel is clean and the restaurant is quite nice. No fans in the room, but that's it.
Incredibly good food, can strongly be recommended. Very nice staff. Large comforable rooms with view of the hills in the Black Forest. Near great sigh seeings.
Courteous professional staff in a family run hotel who made us feel extremely welcome. Excellent food. No.
good location , clean , good breakfast No air conditioning - not easy in hot days
Everyhing The food at the restaurant is not good enough
Nice hotel looking like a big "chalet". Good rooms and good service. The road next to the hotel is a bit noisy although it does not have a high traffic.
lovely dining room - proximity to Freiberg no
the family, the location everithing was excellent; I only need a refrigerator
Very nice room with balcony. The food was exelent. Surroundings nice as well.
Nice hotel with parking facility and very good breakfast, wifi-internet access, very nice room
The family running the hotel were very friendly and helpful. It is a lovely hotel in a beautiful quiet location. Local food in the restaurant was inexpensive, tasty and locally sourced. The black forest cake has a well deserved reputation!! We would not hesitate to come back.
Location is a very rural and quiet area, with a stream running at the back.
The Family who run the hotel are very frendily and healpful. A great Black Forrest cake.
wonderful central location of the black forest area. At the bottom of the mountain Kandel. Was very nice to drive to the top of the mountain to go sled riding. The family owned hotel was super friendly. Even let us borrow sleds. Was about 40 minutes to Triberg and 30 minutes to Rust. Would definitely stay again. The food was absolutely divine and was able to serve at any time.
Our stay was very relaxing and the hotel owner's were great with our crazy kids. The food was great and they even did a special order for our picky eater. The area was beautiful for an after dinner walk in the woods.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was fantastic! Try the trout. The rooms were exactly as we expected - comfortable. We have three children so we booked one of the quad rooms and they each had a bed.
Staff are very nice, breakfast was excellent!
Friendliness of the staff, the breakfast which is very good. We booked a 4 beds room but there wasn't a free 4 beds room anymore, so we had instead 2 2-beds room. Furniture and decoration are rather old and could be refreshed.
Nice family run place, clean and well maintained, plenty of parking.
Owners were excellent, very friendly, food very good, great area and surroundings, hotel has a specific atmosphere and charm. We will definitely go back! Beds in the room were not too comfortable.
We got execellent services from the staff. Our room got upgraded by the manager, without asking. If I am back in Waldkirch I would come back to stay at this hotel. Very scenic surroundings as well.
The hotel is located in the nature, in a quiet environment, and it is only 5 mn drive from Waldkirch. The staff is friendly, the hotel is clean and cosy and the dinner was good as well. The shower is a bit small.
This is a gem of a hotel. Not as remote or hard to find as it might look on the map, but very rural and quiet, set amongst beautiful scenery with great walks and fantastic value for money. Our room was large, and everything was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a great choice, and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening which was nicely presented and good value. Coffee and cake (or beer) on the terrace on a sunny afternoon is recommended! The hotel/restaurant closes on Tuesday, the day we arrived, but arrangements were made to pick up the key and get in and the hotel owners couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful throughout. There’s another restaurant just 10 minutes walk away (for Tuesdays!) and Waldkirch is a charming little town just 10 minutes drive or a pleasant walking destination. Easy parking, free WiFi, but no lift. We will be going again – this hotel is lovely.
Stayed one night on a trip to France and enjoined the quiet location and the excellent restaurant. Before leaving Denmark we tried to book the same hotel for our return trip to dk but was not able to.
The location was extremely peaceful; No-one was at the hotel when we arrived so the key was left in the porch with a note; Having booked in January and asked for a ground floor room, we were very disappointed to be put on the top floor; no consideration shown for disabled guests; no lift; no restaurant and no advice of where to get a meal
The service was outstanding--.food excellent-- cleanliness was everywhere. I plan on returning. Quiet and picturesque right in the Black Forest..
We were extremely happy with the guesthouse. The innkeeper was very nice and spoke English, which was very helpful since we are from the USA. This is a great place to explore the Black Forest from. Their restaurant was open for dinner and was gourmet, which was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were spacious and clean. We would definitely recommend this location!
We enjoyed three nights at this excellent hotel. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
There were a number of things; the friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the room, quality of the restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay.
Newly furnished and very clean room with international satellite TV. Friendly staff. Good restaurant. Very good value for money. Only a detail : would have appreciated coffee making facilities in the room.
it really felt like I was in the black forest.. a wonderful old world country experience. The food was superb and I loved the big fat friendly orange cat. He reminded me of mine. just the fact that it was closed when I came back for a few more days
The hotelstaff was very kind, we feld at home
Very nice Guesthouse, we had a large room with a view on the curch. The restaurant is an excellent value for the money.
Very nice hotel, good food and wine and friendly staff
A traditional Black Forest timber building festooned with geraniums. Bedroom furniture is painted in traditional Bavarian style. Breakfast was an excellent buffet. Dinner not taken because the restaurant was closed the night we stayed but the owners recommended an excellent local one. The nearby Church clock which one reviewer commented on is silenced during the night.
Nice atmosphere and location. Friendly staff and nice modern rooms with a nice view. Good food (At least the night menu after 22 and breakfast) The church bells in the morning... :)
I was met by the Innkeeper Ludwig who was very friendly and welcoming. He spoke very good english and was helpful with my enquiries. Breakfast was plentiful and the Evening meals were good value for money. Simonswald is situated in a beautiful part of the Black Forest and is ideal place to stay for touring the countryside.
The owners are very friendly, made us feel very welcomed and at home. The rooms were very nice and clean. We could tell that the owners love what they do. The food in the restaurant was excellent tasting and at an excellent price. Food was homemade - they had the best honey and bratwurst I've ever tasted. There wasn't any soap in the bathroom in the rooms.
Extremely good value for money. Very clean. Spacious rooms and large, renovated bath rooms. Excellent breakfast. Great views over the black forest from the balcony. The restaurant is closed on Mondays, the one day we visited.
Sympathetic staff and atmosphere. Caring and warm people. It feels like you're and old friend while being a new guest. Beds are great!
Our host Ludwig was excellent and made us feel at home. Lovely location right in the heart of the Black Forest not too far from Frieburg so easily accessible. Would definitely stay here again.
The owner and his staff are very good at taking care of any needs you may have.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Traditional german food was excellent
Central location in the Black Forest, close to Triberg. The half-timber building was beautiful and well kept. The staff was very friendly, even though only one spoke English, which wasn't a problem. The restaurant is highly recommended. They are very generous with food portions and everything was very delicious. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a nice porch lined with flowers. I would definitely stay again.
very friendly staff
They were very welcoming
The staff is friendly, the hotel is located in the city center. The rooms are clean, and there is not much noise. The lightning in the room was very poor. It was almost not possible to read. Also the light was broken when I arrived into my room ! The blanket was only 1 cm thick and there was no woollen blanket in the cupboard! It was November and I was freezing! The parking space is very small, I could not park my car even though I asked the hotel to keep a parking space left for me.
We stayed here because we were going to Europa Park and we booked late and this was the best deal at the last minute. This hotel is 30 minutes away from the park if there is no traffic on the autobahn, but we did enjoy it and breakfast was good. Plus it was very nice. They only speak a little English, but are very friendly and clean.
the rooms are enormous; the restaurant is quite good; excellent breakfast; nice garden; plenty of parking space mosquitoes
Very nice room. Reception understaffed.
Excellent restaurant. None
Fantastic hotel in a fabulous Black Forest village with wonderful views. Fabulous breakfast with lovely German bread and fresh food. Good sized room, bathroom fine, parking ok despite saying that you have to book. Amazing views, totally peaceful, a hotel definately to go back to. Can be tricky to find as set back from main road, no uk tv channels but you don't really need the tv. Could do with a kettle in the room like uk hotels.
A great hotel, quiet ambiance, beautiful nature and very friendly staff
owners didnt give a damn about foreign guest. Very unhelpful in every way. Made you feel like an intruder
Quiet environment next to the vineyards
People were very kind and the food was really good.
Place was nice in the middle of the forest and with a very nice environment. Perfect to someone that has a car and does not care if it is outside the town. The staff was nice and there were restaurant with good food nearby The hotel missed soap in the bathroom, otherwise it was good relation price/quality
Excellent quiet location - set in vineyards on the edge of the forest, yet just a short walk from a popular village centre with tourist info, shops and choice of other places to eat/drink. Beer garden/restaurant terrace has great views over the valley, as do most rooms. Good buffet breakfast. 2 of our 3 rooms were very good - large, airy and light. Good bathrooms with first-rate showers. Our daughter's single room was small and rather dark.
Very well situated, next to walking trails and very close to centre of Glottertal. Spacious room. Overall a very nice hotel. The only thing was that in the morning the hot water in the shower was erratic.
Fantastic country side! Friendly service. Excellent restaurant. Got more then pay!
Room large and clean. very pleasant staff and excellent restaurant.
The atmosphere of the hotel. The room was great (large and nicely decorated). We had alse dinner at the hotel's restaurant and was really nice.
Nice old fashioned rooms & feel to the hotel. Polite staff - when not outside smoking! Poor location, on the front of a large industrial estate. Poor breakfasts, dozens of flies on food every morning. No food was covered. Served each morning second hand coffee off other tables, the pot was filthy - coffee cold...lazy staff problem. Room nor bathroom was not cleaned for whole 3 days...bed made only. Wifi only in certain rooms.
A great hotel, best team and value for money !! Thank you
Beautiful country location. We loved the view, the fresh air, and big windows. Nice bathroom and historic home and decor. The host was very kind and showed us nearby points of interest that we enjoyed exploring. Check-in is until 10pm.
Peaceful setting....perfect for discovering 'The Black Forest Area'. The room (No1) was very comfortable and spacious and very good value for money. We were only passing through but a few more nights would have been very nice. Breakfast was superb and our hostess was delightful I'm unsure whether or not the Hotel Restaurant was open or not, so we ate at a superb hotel just up the road (albeit very expensive)
This is a very pleasant hotel, nice location. Especially noteworthy is the breakfast, which consists of a wonderful display of very tasty items.
Clean and big room even such a low price.
Wonderful setting and beautiful room with balcony. Dining terrace beside the stream, quiet and peaceful. Food delicious. No restaurant facility on Wednesday evening but good meal to be enjoyed in nearby hotel.
We ate in the hotel in the evening and the food was excellent as was the breakfast. Helpful staff. Probably an unfair comment but we stayed in a heatwave (36C) and our large attic room was very hot.
Located in a quiet village just a few kilometres from Freiburg, Hotel Schlossmühle is an ideal place for a stopover if you don't want the hassle of Freiburg itself. Reasonably priced, the room was spacious, with a large balcony overlooking a babbling brook, and the food was excellent. Parking and internet access were free.
Comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast each day. The restauraunt was also very good. The staff was very accomodating. It helped that some could speak English. The mattresses were hard and a little uncomfortable.
Nice quiet room at the back of the hotel, excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
A wonderful hotel, everything was very very good!!! Very nice room, very clean, comfortable and furnished in a so pretty style. Good and fresh breakfast, friendly staff. The hotel is also located in a idilliac small town, near to Freiburg, in the Black Forest, ideal to visit them. Fantastic! Dankeshoen! I will come back again surely. Nothing, everything was very very good.
We had a lovely, very spacious room at the back of the hotel overlooking the little river with not one, but two balconies! The breakfast buffet was very good and the hotel was an old, very attractive, Black Forest style building. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the location. We had thought that we would be staying in a peaceful village in the Black Forest. Yes, it was a type of village but a very, very long one, stretching along the road for quite a way so that there didn't seem to be a real centre. Worse, the road going through (which the hotel was on) was very busy in the mornings and evenings which meant it was quite noisy. German friends of ours who stayed a night at the hotel had a bedroom at the front and said they found it difficult to sleep due to the traffic noise. Obviously this isn't the fault of the hotel but it does mean that we won't be going back again.
