It was conveniently located for our early morning appointment the following day. It was rather dated and some areas could benefit from painting and decorating.
Warm environment.Extremely nice owners.
I just liked my stay in Wheyrigg Hall, starting with the family running the hotel, the food, the room, the quiet area, ... It's also ideally situated for exploring northwest england and the Hadrian's Wall region!
The bed had been slept in before me and the sheets were not changed.
The staff and locals made my stay very easy and pleasant. Nothing
Great cooked breakfast. Walls seemed a bit thin as there was a lot of noise from nearby rooms.
Pleasent on arrival and a super meal in the evening. Got up early especially for us as we had to be at a show early morning. Many thanks for a lovely stay none
food and prices excellent the room i stayed in was very smelly, (damp smell)
Really enjoyed the food served at Wheyrigg. Friendly staff.
Very helpful and friendly staff, quiet location, great food nothing was to much trouble for them they did breakfasts to suit the client which was very helpful if you had an early start all in all great value for money. nothing springs to mind
the bed was very comfortable, breakfast was good, and the one member of staff we saw was very friendly. the room we got was very shabby, was nothing like the photo Isaw advertised on your site, we had a good view of the kitchen fan from our window, nothing else,so we got the smell and the noise and the whole room shook every two minutes until the kitchen closed. The room also did not have a shower which in this day and age I find difficult to understand, never stayed anywhere in the world without one.dissapointing!!
the room was comfy and clean and the food was nice and well served especially breakfast
The location was ideal, right on the front. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The hotel could not have been any cleaner. We were made very welcome including our 3 dogs. Great value for money.
It was very quiet and peaceful at night. The room was large with plenty of space to keep our clothes. Towels were changed daily and the hotel was spotlessly clean.
I liked the internal archtecture of the hotel.which was classic and tasteful. The sash windows rattle during the windy nights.
I'm not prone to negative reviews--but felt compelled to write this one. The staff is terrific--but otherwise this is a vaguely dirty, slightly gross, mediocre hotel. Breakfast was badly done and in a large ballroom with dozens of pensioners on holiday. The room was badly stained, unkempt, with one of the worst beds I've encountered in over a million miles of traveling. Avoid if possible.
The log fire in the foyer as it was freezing weather at the time. A warmer more welcoming sitting area in the bar is necessary.
the location fo the hotel was fantastic
friendly staff, good central position The executive room was very small though well equipped.
it was handy for the shops and the night life would deffinatly stay there again
central position bed too small for 2 people
friendly, helpful staff. Good food Hard bed
The ocation was good but hard to find The staff were not very friendly and when we arrived we had to get housekeeping up to clean the toilet, there was crusted grim under the rim, hey did fix as soon as we asked but it was obvious that it had been there for some time. On his I would not recommend
The welcome, the pool and breakfast
Wasn't to pleased with room it said deluxe, wasn't very deluxe to me. Breakfast was awful think it was cooked in deep fat drier.won't be staying again. Breakfast and room
Good central location and suprisingly queit considering we were in the main "Clubbing" street Pillows a bit thin and no spares in the room
It was close to the station and had 24 hour service. The room was cold and a bit basic
Handy for the station as was due to travel early following morning by train on a business trip though weather in end prevented this
Good location Poor shower always runs cold and hot
Centrally located, helpful staff Near to night clubs, first room very noisy, asked to move and 2nd night was fine.
Central location! Right in the middle of all pubs and restaurants. Spacious room Shower was interesting, though flooding bathroom was easy to do. Breakfast not included and £7 for continental so didnt bother
Courtesy and friendliness of staff was very good
Great location, central to night-life. Understand that if you book here it can be noisy. Unless you are too drunk to notice !
Its location in the centre of town, its value for money price, the reasonable check in and out times and its simple but comfortable and well equipped rooms.
An Ibis is an Ibis. Cheap internet/tv/movie package. Police presence in reception for most of the evening provided extra security! An unfortunate incident in the bar led to the bar being closed early and the opportunity to spend some time with half the Cumbrian Police force discussing the merits of policing such an area whilst their colleagues dealt with the incident.
very pleasant staff, clean rooms, lovely village/country location steam room was out of order, only 5 choices of main course in the restaurant at night time.
location of the hotel and the general feeling of the hotel made it an enjoyable stay.
Staff ensured there was a good atmosphere throuout. Leasure facilities were better maintained than a lot of the larger more expensive chain hotels we have stayed at. Even the downside of a wedding reception was well managed as we were given a room as far away from the event as possible.
The quality of the food and wine in the bar area was of a lower standard than we expected
It was great as a halfway stop for us, i also found the hotel very relaxing but family oriented at the same time. We will be back :) We had Breakfast delivered to room and there was no where to put tray apart from bed which is not ideal when you have children and wasn't to impressed with breakfast!
We were given a cottage room. Outstanding
The location to Carlisle was very convenient as we were en route to Scotland. Closeness to a railway station means we may visit again and travel on public transport. Setting and food great.
Staff were friendly and willing to listen No
nice well planned room. good reception and dining room staff. good pool and health centre. had to step out in rain to reach main part of hotel from room.
Everything would have been good except there was a wedding on and the noise kept us awake till gone midnight. Our room was directly over the reception and it would have been better if we were elsewhere in the hotel.
Everything, staff, atmosphere, food, restaurant, close to city centre and parks, was quiet , clean, enjoied the decorations of the hotel, that added personality.
the service we received was very good ,,our room was very clean and tidy ,as was the bathroom, Breakfast was of a high standard. and we enjoyed our stay at that hotel .. no compaints
The breakfast was good. We had a problem and the staff were good about fixing it an letting us know how things were progressing. The staff in the restaurant forgot us without apology, and stood near us looking at their watches during breakfast. The beds and pillows were hard, and the room was rather hot with no air conditioning. There is no lift, and the stairs are steep, long, and narrow.
Hotel staff were friendly friendly. Rooms were clean and spacious. Food was very tasty and drink prices reasonable. Good secure parking. Hotel could do with a refurb as it was very chintzy. Matresses were a bit too soft for our liking.
No complaints. Excellent value for money, good location.
Friendly staff, good food
Location to train station, great for late arrivals. I also arranged for a hire car to be left in the hotel carpark.
Excellent service from the hotel staff when checking in and in the restaurant. The quality of the food was very good and was good value for money. Our room overlloked an alley where bins were stored and these were moved noisily at about 5:00 am disturbing our sleep. As can be expected in a central town location, there was also noise from late night revellers outside the hotel!
Comfortable beds, lots of hot water, friendly staff
Everything was clean and everyone was very nice. Could have done without the wedding 'music' on the Friday night and the room was slightly warm
Convenient to City centre, Hotel lobby and reception very impressive, room was comfortable. Outside our room on arrival there was a tray with food on it and it was still there when we returned later in the evening, the window sash was black with mildew and did'nt look like it had been cleaned in months.
Staff were nice and pleasant Cleanliness of the room. Pink feather and crumbs in the bed (which were not ours!!). Dust around skirting board and mold on the shower head!!! Noise from outside air conditioning unit which carried on all night and disturbed sleep!! Have advised the hotel of these problems.
value for money. Restaurant food - excellent. Express my congratulations to the chef.
The hotel was well looked after in every detail and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast service was a little disappointing as we had to request everything individually from additional butter, orange juice and milk. The cooked breakfast could not be faulted but the buffet table for fruit, cereal and yogurt was very poorly presented.
Very convenient to station. A great traditional hotel. Recommended. Superb breakfast! No biscuits in rooms!
This is an excellent up-market B&B, with those few extra creature comforts in a modern elegant building, set in quiet beautiful grounds. A very good breakfast, very welcoming, we would recommend it highly. We only chose this B&B as they advertised special evening meals. After booking and our £50 non returnable deposit had been taken, were we then informed that they did not do evening meals on Sundays. On arrival they had very kindly booked us a restaurant a mile or so away, but we had taken a picnic as we did not wish to drive.
The food, the rooms and the hotel was excellent. Nothing we enjoyed everything.
We were made to feel very welcome and at home. The food was lovely, the location peaceful and beautiful, and the atmosphere was relaxing. Our room was fresh, clean and very comfortable. All in all, it was a great place to stay!
Excellent rooms The evening meal was a little over-cooked.
WAs a fantastic place with very friendly hosts, will def be back
have a great time eating, chatting to owners and generally chilling out no nothing
Top quality from a small establishment. All the things you would expect in a 5* hotel We could not fault the service , the food and room We would recommend our friends to stay here and if we are in that area we will stay again
An amazing place to stay - a truly relaxing experience. Lovely people in a lovely place. Beautiful room and large airy bathroom. Food to die for and a breakfast to keep you going all day. Definitely a place to go again.
we stayed in the willow room and it was beautiful, couldnt fault anything there was plenty of towels, the bed was comfortable didnt want to get up. The breakfast was great and plentiful. Everyone was so friendly and helpful really couldnt fault anything.
Location, people, facilities and all the options
good location, near to the train station and not too far from the centre of the city.reception was pleasant and helpfull.
The service at reception was good. Felt very welcome and comfortable this is a difficult choice - Low energy bulbs are environmently friendly and cost effective and I advocate their use but it makes the room dark - it was difficult to work and read. internet access for business customers would be helpful
Location - convenient for railway station and city centre The heating could have been better for mid-November
The filthy bathroom floor and the lack of hot water
The upgrade to room 114 The room allocated to us 129 was at the back of the hotel and the heating was v/poor as the radiator did not radiate properly - we woke up in the morning bitterly cold and to complel matters there was no hot water and we had to boil the kettle to wash - we explained this at reception and were moved to room 114 - which was perfect
We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the helpful staff, the hotel's location, our room was extremely comfortable and the food was lovely. N/A
A bit run down. Needs tidying.
The location was excellent for the purpose of my visit. However the hotel lacked atmosphere, breakfast very basic. The room was expensive for the size of it, very small, and cramped. However the bathrom was as big as the bedroom
Night Porter was there as I arrived very late and was very helpful with advice on the area
Jack and the others succeed in making their guests feel at home. Our visit to Bessiestown felt like meeting old friends - though we had never been there before. The atmosphere is so friendly and relaxed. In fact out visit to Bassiestown left nothing to be desired. For Dutch visitors: zeer zeker een aanrader!
It was night stay before a business visit to nearby town. It was a very comfort time staying in the hotel.
The overall cleanliness of the Guesthouse and the food...well, it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The freindly staff made our stay extra relaxing and the local knowledge and advise given made our walking the area great. 10 out of 10 to Jack and Margaret...we will return to them in the future.
We stayed here as a base for our wedding in Gretna Green and everybody was so friendly and couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Fantastic location to get away from it all. Meals were great too.
Convenient overnight stop off, very friendly owners, lovely place, would like to go back
Beautiful, upgraded to a cottage on arrival, food was delicious, and the staff extremely helpful. There is nothing that we didn't like. the whole stay was excellent value for money and the whole atmosphere was wonderful.
Friendly atmosphere, very good accommodation, good service and food. Large indoor swimming pool. Rural setting.
This b & b was just great! The room was super! It had an upstairs sitting area as well with tv, couch, chairs, dining area and kitchen. The owners were super friendly and helpful and the morning breakfast was sensational! There were no directions on the print-out on how to reach this place. We had to get directions from the local police. We mentioned this to the owner and he will, no doubt, correct this.
the service was fantastic and the evening meal was fantastic. a great allround stay
Great ambiance on an evening. Friendly helpful owners. Excellant, value for money food Bit out of the way for some. Satnav had difficulty finding the village.
We were made very welcome and the remises is furnished to a high standard The meals were huge and perhaps a bit more was wasted than necessary
Room was very comfortable and bathroom very clean, staff very friendly and efficient, plenty parking, Would have liked a shower. Bed head was very dusty. Have got 7 bruses on legs from the bed post at foot of bed.
fantastic hotel,excellent service,highly recomended
Food, service and room was superb
Breakfast was excellent Rooms small
cleanliness of room,friendly staff,nice food
Very good hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent cooked breakfast and evening meals. Clean rooms and well serviced. Just the room size was a little too small. A spare blanket would be nice during cold spells.
Friendly and obliging Room very clean with nice outlook. Hotel built in 1666 full of character. Shortage of clothes hangers and and usable surfaces No drinking glasses in the en-suite
Excellent food, friendly staff clean accommodation, would visit again very pleased. Mr & Mrs Lightfoot
A perfect setting of an ancient, but well kept building, combined with up-to-date facilities
Beautiful old building with up to date facilities, breakfast and evening meals and service top class. nothing
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are lovely too. The food was delicious and the staff were very attentive.I could not fault anything about my stay. No
Character of hotel excellent. However, friendly and efficient staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.
The setting was great- it looked lovely from the outside. The room we had was lovely- nice big comfy bed and modern bathroom. Service at check in / out & restaurant was efficent and friendly. A wedding was on the night we stayed. Bit noisy and we were not able to access the lounge with the fire, which we had been looking forward to using. I think we should of been advised of a wedding being on when we booked. We were the only people having dinner, so the atmosphere in the restaurant was very flat.
Staff were friendly and responded to queries quickly. Tea and coffee fasilities were not provided unless asked for.
We both enjoyed our stay. It was a bit to quiet not many other people there.
The hotel was a cut above normal hotels.
Period featuresa, well looked after, friendly service & excellent food
I had a single room for 1 night and although the room was a little tired it was acceptable considering the low price.
Its location which is close to the centre of Carlisle, Hadrians Wall and the Scottish Borders Some of the bedroom furniture was a bit tired
Food was very good comment made to us about another guest
Hotel is well serviced and cleanly No internet access (even, if free wifi is advertised for); room was very, very tiny; renovation works were going on in our corridor; the hotel is located just next to a fairly busy road, all windows face this road; breakfast is only available until 9 am; check out is rather early as well; bathroom was sorta o.k. but old.
Both the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and the food were great. They did as much as possible to make our stay enjoyable. I was a little concerned over fire precautions. We were at the end of a corridor with no alternative means of escape in the event of fire.
Very good breakfast
Genuine welcome and friendly staff together with some good food. Nohting was was too much trouble
Bar was closed to residents at 11 30pm
Value for money - friendly staff, restaurant and bar a big plus Room could do with updating, was abit scruffy decor wise - room had an extremely small shower/toilet and no bath.
