the hotel is very close to the sea, and we enjoyed the view very much. the public bath is nice too.
there is one window without light screen, and it woke us up at sunrise.
The ryokan is ok, with everything one would expect from a normal standard Japanese ryokan.
Kaike onsen itself is not a particularly attractive place. Compared to many other onsens in Japan, the place is not worth visiting. There are many better choices, even in the same area.
Good location and sea view from room, comfortable and adequately spacious room. Clean onsen area and good breakfast. Friendly helpful staff.
At time of stay on a Wednesday before golden week, the area was quiet-several nearby restaurants were closed.
Great resort with a fantastic breakfast! The raw egg on white rice and soy sauce buffet is delicious. I don't think I've ever had 2 entire bowls of white rice for breakfast before this. And the breakfast sets are a great variety as well. The relaxation room is to die for (there's 3 massage chairs and I've fallen asleep in one of them). The bathhouse is where I went to bath and shower every day. This was partly necessity as the bathrooms included with the room are tiny and rudimentary at best. I think that's because people in Japan just use public baths for all of their bathing needs. Bonus: all toilets in this hotel are equipped with a seat warmer!!! So comfy. Lastly, all the rooms come with a north (water) facing view. In fact, all the best places have north facing views making this a very well thought out hotel layout. Lastly the staff was helpful and friendly every way. We traveled with an infant and the hotel accommodated us very well considering how much little flexibility we had. We chose a tatami mat room and it worked great to have our little 4 month old on the futon so she could sleep, play, and hang out with us. We asked for a crib but didn't get one but it didn't affect us at all. The baby chair at the restaurant was excellent for our toddler, so I know they have the facilities to handle families with young children very well.
Asked for a crib but didn't get one. If you're a stickler about needing one, be warned that you might not get one. Bathrooms inside room are tiny and spartan. We were late checking out and incurred an additional charge. Our own fault for being late an hour but I don't think I've ever paid a late check-out fee in my life.
Great location with stunning view of the Sea of Japan. I rented a bike at a nearby hotel and rode a few miles along the Sea to Summit route. Superb onsen with perfect and hot water. Staff were friendly and used Google translate to help me as I speak no Japanese. Did not try the food and made my own breakfast in room.
A few more open restaurants would have been nice but there were a few pretty good ones nearby.
