Various people complained throughout our 16 HOUR flight and they did nothing. The crew didn't seem to care that we were basically having heat strokes and unable to sleep because of the heat. They informed us that they were unable to change the temperature in our part of the plane. Yet, when we finally started our descent into JFK, the air conditioning came on. Funny how that worked all of a sudden. I will never fly them again."

Cons: "I would like to add one more meal to the flight. I think three meals for 15 hours would be fully satisfactory. The boarding was confusing with all the different lines. In order to cut down on the confusion the staff should announce what each line is and organize it in a better fashion. In addition, for good measure during check in of the flight the extra security procedure should be explained; therefore everyone can expect this longer process and throw all liquids away plus have bags ready to be rechecked. In closing, these small changes would be ideal for a smooth transition and comfortable trip."

I told him I had paid for a window seat. It turned out that what I paid online didn't go through. The ground staff insulted me about my credit card not being valid, which was not the case. It was something with your website because I had to select the seat several times. Regardless, he gave me another seat 65A (a window seat). When I boarded the flight I was told that they gave my seat to a mother so she could seat next to her son. I spent the entire time playing musical chairs moving from seat to seat until the flight was fully boarded. It was not a pleasant experience as I was very tired and just wanted to relax after boarding the flight. Needless to say, I will limit the amount of flights I take with SA from now on. The boarding experience as very unprofesssional."

I could not aircheck my custom chartered family painting because they could not fit it through a machine to scan and they would not bring it to a bigger scanner downstairs, even though they had the options to and had previously airchecked it with SAA, PLUS I was charged extra to check it. Ridiculous."

Cons: "We had selected specific seats for flight approximately six months ago. On the day of the flight, when we checked our baggage, we were issued boarding passes with those seat assignments. Then, as we presented our boarding passes at the gate, the agent told us there was a problem with our seats; specifically he said that there was “a broken arm rest” so we had to be re-assigned to different seats. He told us the seats he substituted were the same as we had been assigned -- a window and aisle -- but in a different row. We boarded the plane to find out that the seats he issued to us were in the center of the row, not on the side of the plane as he had said. There did not appear to be a problem with the arm rest for our originally assigned seats after all, since those seats were occupied by two passengers. The long flight was uncomfortable due to this change. For some reason that was not given, we were not asked if we wanted to give up our original seats, but they were given to someone else and we were inconvenienced for their benefit. On the trip back, they tried to change our seat assignments again. But we called them on it."

The captain told us we were in a circling pattern and wouldn't be landing for 30-40 minutes, yet the crew made us turn off all electronics and out our seats up. So for 40 minutes we sat there uncomfortably. It was unnecessary. Basically everything on this flight was uncomfortable, inconvienent, and bad."

Pros: "I had a blood coat on my leg 2 months before my flight and the pain and swelling sometimes were unbearable, United was extremely accommodating, kind and courteous from the check in all the way to helping me retrieve my luggage in a wheel chair and that alone ease my pain, not having to do any extra effort was a huge relief on my legs. Definitely booking again with United and Kayak"

Gate attendant offered me a $500 voucher for taking the next flight...and then ended up putting me on the early flight anyway and gate checking my luggage. I really wish I got both the voucher AND to hold onto my carry-on. And then, leg room on that flight was so bad. I am only 6ft tall and was squished in like a sardine."

Cons: "The line up process at LaGuardia was unorganized based on the preassigned number boarding system. There was no space to organize 1-5 as assigned on the boarding passes. Going and coming from LaGuardia, the flight gate was changed multiple times, then there was at least an hour and a half delay on the ground and an hour in the plane. We had to reroute to Neward because of air traffic situations, but the ground crew was not ready nor efficient in helping the throngs of people find transportation or understand the process The crew was sour, and when simply asked for a spoon, the guy said, "later" and of course, he never brought one. There was no friendliness or cordiality from these people. We were like cattle to them. I have never seen it so bad. I have watched what used to be a great airline with Continental, decline to a consistently subpar experience with United. I will look for other airlines to fly in the future. My experiences with Southwest have been much better in the last two years."

Cons: "After booking the flight I noticed that there was a 25 minute window between the time my flight was scheduled to land in my connecting city and the departure time of my connecting flight. Aware that most airline close the gate door and the flight 10 to 15 minutes before take off and the fact that it takes about 15 minutes to get off a flight after the aircraft door open, I was sure that this would be a problem. Also if I then had to change terminals that would be another 20 minutes. Long story short, I thought this was poor customer service on United's side. I called united the day before my flight and customer service rep assured me that it would be the same terminal and that these times are customary on the part of United. I then also mentioned this at the gate as well and talked to a very kind Flight Attendant. Everyone worked to put me at easy about this. My flight left 20 minutes late but made the time up while in the air. We landed I got off the flight in record time and asked a gate attendant to check my flight status. The flight and gate had been closed. They then had be go talk with a very kind woman at the customer service desk. She then moved me to a AA flight. She said "now the fate closes in 10 minutes so you probably won't make it but run". "You've got to be kidding me" i thought but she was so nice so I didn't question it... But I RAN!!! I didn't make it and AA customer service rep put me on the last flight out. I say in the airport for an extra 4 hours and ate lots of food I'm sure is slowly killing me as we speak. Happy to be safe and at home."

By the time I got there, there wasn't any other flights that I could take so I ended up having to take a connecting flight the next day. I wanted a hotel voucher but was sent running around to no avail. There was no compensation of any sort and the agents were helpless"

Cons: "My first flight was delayed by an hour and 20 min. I arrived at Dallas for my connector to Austin, 25 min before my departure time. I could have made it, however, the plane taxi'd at the gate for at least 10 min, then the door wouldn't open. When I finally got off, I sprinted to my next gate, thinking they may hold it for a few minutes as there were many people connecting on that flight to Austin, but instead they did the opposite. When I arrived there were other people waiting who had arrived 10 min before the departure time (also from a delayed flight) and the doors were already closed. There was no representative at the gate to even tell us this, until we had waited over 10 min, and when he arrived, he said the doors were closed, and all of us were too late. Why would you close the doors early, knowing that other connectors were coming in. Additionally, on my return trip, my flight was cancelled, and I never received a reason for its cancellation, just an automatic rebooking that put me back in New York a day late. I had to be on the phone for an hour, rebooking a flight that United didn’t have. They instead put me on an American airlines flight last minute that I barely made. This wouldn’t have been so bad if this wasn’t the second time this exact scenario occurred within two months, when my siblings attempted to return home for the Christmas holidays. United is terrible."

Cons: "United Airlines gave away my seat without my permission. They gave it to keep a family together, which was ok except they never asked me if it was ok. Even when I got my ticket scanned right before boarding, no one told me about the change. I think the crew singled me out purely because I'm Asian so they thought I wouldn't say anything. They also gave away my aisle seat so I had to sit in a more crammed row and window seat. No compensation was offered, boarding took forever, and I had to check in my bag because they ran out of overhead compartment room. This was a horrid experience."

Luckily I was able to get a flight the same night, others had to get a hotel at their own expense since United claimed the lateness was a result of air traffic controllers. But we left late because the plane arrived late in Laguardia. I don't see how both the plane arriving to Laguardia late and departing from Laguardia late is due to air traffic controllers. No entertainment for a cross country flight and the entertainment from united wifi wouldn't work as well."

Cons: "Once in Abidjan, it became a mess. First we were left waiting for over an hour without any explanation. Then we were told that we had to retrieve our baggage and then recheck them. Hardly anyone spoke English so that was a long and confusing ordeal."
Cons: "Old flight - equipments were not in order like the handrest was broken, TV’s were broken and not functioning, touch screens failed to react to touch, signs on buttons at the handrest were smudged. 3 out of 6 washrooms in Economy class were not working. At one instance I was locked in the washroom as the door was not opening from inside, until I had to call the attendant. Entertainment options were limited. Food was below average. In one of my meals I got opened and melted butter. Cabin crew was not responding to the calls when I needed water. I finally got it after ringing 4 bells and 45 minutes. Overall, a terrible experience and would not choose to fly with Ethiopian again."

Pros: "I went for my honeymoon but ET never transported my luggage. I had to spend my honeymoon buying very expensive clothes and basic needs in Mauritius instead of relaxing. My luggage never came. I got it on my way back to Bamako. Nobody was even able to even trace my luggage or respond professionally on the phone. Out of hundreds of calls I made to them, they only picked up twice. ET screwed my honeymoon that I had planned for over a year. I'm so dissapointed that I don'y even want to claim reimbursement."

Cons: "The experience from the airport to the plane to Lome was beyond troubling. If ever you are flying internationally from NYC, never fly from Newark New Jersey. Nevertheless, upon boarding the Ethiopian Airline flight to Lome that was supposed to depart at 9:15 pm, the courtesy of the flight attendants was a bit mundane. My mother and I sat on the plane for about an hour after the time of the depart before inquiring why we have no moved and the doors were closed. The flight attendant responded with, "We shall be moving shortly." The air conditioner was barely on. My mother is battling stage 3 Cancer and is an older woman so, I feared for the safety of her health in such a condition. About 30 minutes passed, and we inquired again. This time with a different flight attendant and she said she just did not know what was going on. Other people on the plane began to panic in a sense as well because like my mother and I, they too had a connecting flight to catch. The pilot did not inform the passengers of what was occurring. So, at this point, all passengers on flight ET509 had been sitting on the plane for an hour and a half. By the time we were sitting on the plane for 2 HOURS with the doors closed the pilot finally informed us that they were waiting for some paperwork. He did not apologize or give more information as to why we were sitting on the plane so long, with practically no AC, and weren't informed about when we would be pulling off. About 10 minutes later, the plane began backing up while people were still standing because they were restless with the wait especially when we had a 10-hour flight ahead of us. The pilot then got on the loudspeaker stating that we will be pulling in the air shortly and for the flight attendants to be seated. The pilot did not apologize for the inconvenience or state how long the flight would be or what time we would land in Lome, Togo. Once we were in the air, there were many safety hazards administered by both the crew and pilot. The seat belt safety information was not given, the exit areas in case of emergency were not discussed, what to do in case of an emergency, where certain equipment would be in case of illness or an emergency, and we were still not informed about the cause of the 2 hours and 15-minute delay. My mother and I consistently checked the flight tracker and it did not show the duration of our flight, our location while flying, no flight information was displayed and as hard working paying passengers we should have had all of the information and not have to continuously ask to get a slight answer. Also, I am a vegan and they did not have food for me. But there was a flight attendant who gave me extra fruit which I greatly appreciated. The flight coming back to Newark was decent, going was the major issue. I pray we are accommodated for these great inconveniences. Because to have spent almost $3,000 and receive this type of treatment is both saddening and disturbing to me."

Cons: "Late take off from Newark led to us almost missing our connections to Johannesburg. We were moving like sheep herded to buses. Seemed very unorganized. The inflight entertainment was very basic compared to other star alliance flights in the states. Can’t understand the pilots very well when they spoke English. P"
Cons: "Besides that the flight was 4 hours delayed and the staff gave different information then the screen, customer service was non existant. There seems to be no structure or system. Gate change was not announced. Staff was not clear or direct about status of the flight. I have had several flights with EA and most have been completely disappointing and frustrating. Forget trying to call anyone, it took me 4 days of non stop calls to connect with someone to change my flight date. Then once connected the credit card system was apparently down and they could not charge my fee. I had to contact the US office while I was in Africa in order to get anything done, ridiculous. They over charged me and would not honor the fees that were quoted on the phone and via email but the head office. Dishonest and no concern for the inconvenience to their customers. This airline would be the last choice, highly not recommended."

Cons: "Somewhat dirty ( and smelly ) aircraft even though they are a very new fleet. Some seats had strange patches and stains. Overall cabin experience can be improved in terms of hygiene and food quality ( food was mediocre or slightly worse). Seat ahead reclines almost too much into personal space in the new 787 aircraft. The LCD displays don't pivot so it's virtually impossible to view the entertainment when the occupant of the seat in front fully reclines ( a somewhat irritating issue on a long flight )"

Checked luggage also all made it through. I was pleasantly surprised. I flew Nairobi to Cape Town with connection in Addis."

Cons: "Customer service was horrible. Cancelled a trip within 24 hours of booking but put me through hours of waiting on the phone for assistance and still charged a 300 dollar fee. Our ticket was somehow suspended BY THEM so we had to call an office in a different country to unsuspeND then we were able to cancel. No help at all and kept dodging responsibility and forwarding the problem to other offices. Would book a different airline to avoid unneeded stress."
