The hot food was cold both at dinner and at breakfast. The quality and quantity was excellent.
Rooms and balconies were big and and staff polite. Great view from the balcony. I was disappointed because nobody informed us that the outdoor swimming pools are going to be closed until spring. I would not have chosen that hotel if I had known that. Food in the hotel restaurant was terribly tasteless and bland. The rooms were fairly clean, but the toilet had a smell of urine and there were some hair on the floor. Maids came to clean everyday but the hair did not disappear. One of the pillows had a disgusting smell, but we did not have to use it, as we had 2 bedrooms and needed only one.The kitchen was advetised as fully equipped. In fact we had 2 pots and one cover + one small and scratched frying pan. There was no spatula, no colander, no bowl, no sharp knive, so the kitchen was almost useless.
Good room Too much people, too much strees with breakfast and dinner
Ok family room at the apartment part of the hotel For a four star hotel, there was some cheep solutions regarding equipment at the room, and it was only equipped for 4 persons while it was 6 beds... Some loose tiles at the floor, and some of the equipments at the bathroom needed repairs.
Super clean Gym equipment is old and not working
relaxing surroundings, quiet, clean, good breakfast, evening meal, good starter and sweet. Although the food in general was ok, the main evening meal, was poor, either undercooked or overcooked, cheap cuts of meat added to the poor quality. Not 4 star hotel quality
the beds were huge and the hotel facilities clean and good improve food choice at lunch and dinner
Dinner-drinks not being included in half-board.
Excellent facilities Coffee was cold at breakfast
We had a car and travelled to the National Park beaches and in-land to beautiful villages. The beaches in La Herradura are lovely and at the time we went, not crowded. There is a little harbour to walk around but everywhere is very quiet out of season. It was mostly used by Spanish and got very busy at the weekend. The numbers increased from about 100 to 600 and I believe to 1000 in the high season!During the week it was fine for us considering the good deal we had.
lounge, dining room and bar facilities excellent.comfortable room and calm peaceful atmosphere (november) very helpful staff
I liked that this hotel is more isolated than others.
the reception staff were friendly/helpful. Location was good adjacent to the beach, also the area is not full of tourists - i.e. there were mistly Spanish families on holiday there The breakfast was not what you would expect from a four star hotel -hard croissants each day! Same limited fruit selection every day and also limited cereals. Coffee (machine) was cool also. Overall could be much improved with little effort.
Very nice hotel, situated very close to beach, nice pool, good value, very good rooms. Definitely will recommend. Best place we stayed in spain
The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The hotel is located on Velilla Beach which is away from the busier beaches nearer the town centre. However, the shops and cafes of the town are only a short walk away along the seafront promenade.. I could not fault the hotel. We took the half board option and had good food and a large bedroom with a seaview on the cooler side of the hotel. There were plenty of other guests at the hotel who also seemd to be enjoying their stay.
Good location close to the sea. Beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. Restaurant only served buffet meals. Charge for using car park. More like a 3 star hotel rather than a 4 star.
A nice room We had asked for a nonsmoker room, but were placed in a smoker's room. We mooved to another room, also a smoker's room. After two days we got a nonsmoker room.
This is the second time my wife and I stayed at this hotel. It is very good value for money if you book well in advance. The rooms are really very nice. There are some nice cafes to on the beach front to the left of the hotel, and a very nice small, like private beach, just up the hill to the right of the hotel.I would advise on a car rental if you decide to stay here as ther is not a lot going on. Just really very far out from shops and so on. If you have rented a car for your holiday, this hotel is really good value for money. From here you are only 20 minutes from Motril, a nice small Spanish city. A trip to Granada to see the Alambra is a must! Also go and see the Nerja Caves, and Balcones De Europe in Nerja town, a half hour drive from this hotel.
Good service, comfort,good food,friendly,nice location.
I enjoyed the spacious room
Hotel Helios - Costa Tropical has some amazing views of the ocean from many rooms and especially from the sun-tanning deck at the top of the hotel. The breakfast buffet is good, albeit simple - lots of fresh fruit and some nice hot dishes. The location is perfect - across from the beach and close to many restaurants. Hotel Helios started charging for WiFi on October 1st 2010 and it's a big pain... 1 hour login is 1 Euro - but if you want to check email or Skype periodically throughout the day, you need to keep buying new logins - I only found out about the full day option on my last day (5 Euros). WiFi doesn't reach all rooms - so plan accordingly. Also, it was hard to get an iron - this isn't a business hotel, but can't be beat for vacations.
The room and its position The smell of food[ fish] outside the restaurant area
Rooms are spacious. Balcony small. Beds large and comfortable. Location excellent - beech-front with convenient, local sea-food & chinese restaurants. Pool small but adequate. Spanish and no English spoken. Bar prices too expensive compared to average for locality.
Ocean view There should be dryers in the rooms
Location was near the beach and town centre. Was not informed about building work being carried out in hotel. The noise was unbearable, some guests had to move rooms. Not enough wardrobe cupboard space in room. Breakfast had poor choice and poorly cooked. Told by Manager not to use bath towels around pool but there was no notice to say that you couldn't and that pool towels could in fact be obtained from reception. Had to pay to use safe.
Close to beach, decent room, rooftop bar w spectacular views Not so much "didn't like" but it was an odd mix... There were lots of older tourists and some families many of whom seemed to enjoy the ok buffet in the basement restaurant which gave the place the feel of a retirement home in Florida and then there's this very nice club on the roof that was more or less empty.
Pleasant staff. Good service. Excellent location and views Parking is a nuisance as key has to be collected. Roadworks outside - not their fault!
Swimming pool, view, breakfast Lift, lack of parking availibility
Convenient for the beach and town plus secure parking
a functional and clean hotel - not one to spend lots of time in but did the job - air con was a godsend! very hard to find free parking nearby - staff did not know where best to find it - and directed us to the 19 euros a day underground car park 10mins walk away. if you stay here, park for free further west up the hill inland
The hotel is totally Spanish - there were no other foreign guests. Likewise the town of Almunecar was totally Spanish. The desk staff spoke English and were helpful, the bar staff were helpful and concocted iced coffees for us - it was VERY hot. In the evening a small band played in the air conditioned bar area - people were doing ballroom type dancing, with style, which was fun. The genuine experience. The usual problem - could do with some more clothes storage and hooks on the backs of doors to hang clothes up.
Good Facilities and location First night we were placed in a room directly below the air co unit for entire building but were moved immediately the next morning on request
I liked the idea that you cannot reserve the sunbeds.
Hotel parking was expensive as no street parking was available close by. Dogs are also allowed in rooms, no thought for next guest. Only two lifts for eight floors.
The hotel was very lovely. The Spa and indoor swimming pool was good. The food was totally not good. I complained to the manager and his answer was to moved to another hotel. We wasn't allowed to enter the dinning room with paying first. We wanted to have a look at a menu and no menu's was available.
Location is good - right on beach and very central - right at front so great views over beach Surley staff - totally disorganised at breakfast - like staying at Butlins - not for anyone looking for a relaxing time - only for families with lots of children
Good location, friendly staff, everything was pretty much as we expected to find it. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and Almunecar.Lots of Spanish guests which always says something about a Spanish hotel... The parking costs should be clear from the start - it wasn't expensive but did add a further cost and I think the site simply says parking at cost. Also the fact that they insisted on half board - no option, which was the one thing that nearly made me book elsewhere. There were a couple of nights where we didn't use the hotel simply to have dinner out, but we had to pay for it. Bit restrictive for people who don't have young families and don't want hotel food all week.
Location to our friends and family who live there, and the price, and the staff all excelent. Some parts were a bit on the cold side, due to the time of year.
Good location, nice pool, spacious rooms. Good price. Corridors need a good clean.Mediocre food at buffet. I do not think it rates 4 stars. Standards have declined since I stayed 3 years ago when it was part of Sol Melia chain.
Excellent facilities. The food was very well prepared and presented with lots of choice evry evening. There was no need to go out to eat. The foyer was clean and bright and a real feature. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, even though some of them were on strike during our stay! Having an indoor pool, gym and games room was a real plus as the weather was dreadful and we couldn't go out. Even so we had a wonderful stay which says a lot for the hotel. Certainly the best place to stay in Almuñecar. Only very minor issues, nothing that would put me off. Leak in the roof, we had torrential rain, tiles missing on the indoor pool floor. No staff on duty when the pool was in use. Could be noisy when parties came in late at night.
great value for money. The helpfulness of the staff was applaudable. we were stuck in Spain after our planned departure date due to the Volcano. the staff did everything that they could to helpus. we are very grateful to them. We had 5 rooms between our family none
This hotel is excellent value for money. I have stayed in 4 star hotels that are not as clean as this, and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would definately stay again!
We had a very enjoyable stay and would definitly consider staying again, Every one of the staff were very friendly & helpful
Good location for town centre bar prices cheaper than bars in the town very good internet system None
Nice clean hotel, ideal for the more active holiday maker, Location a little far out for the not so able person, choice of bar snacks not very good,
Convenient for our short stay. The selection of food at breakfast could be a little more varied.
We stayed at this hotel for a few nights and overall it was good. The room was small and simple and lacked some of the amenities of the more upscale places but the location was good as was the price. A/C only functions if your in the room which means you always come back to a hot stuffy room.
Great price. Good location - set back approx 150metres from the promenade. The rooms/balconies faced the the castle San Miguel, the old town and the main town. Between the hotel and everything eIse is a 'custard apple plantation' helps to separate it and makes it a quiet location. Decent 'spanish' style breakfast, evening meals and games room No
a fine hotel fully deserving of its 4* rating. would recommend it to friends
The location There was an awful smell coming from the bathroom drains, which affected the whole room which at times was almost unbearable and not in keeping with the 4 stars. In addition there were very few staff available to serve drinks and there was no room service available. Breakfast was poor.
Location I have stayed there previousl and had trouble with the plumbing. This time I had to change rooms as the bath water came back through the floor due to a blockage and created a distasteful sewage smell. No apology or discount was forthcoming.
It's staff were exceptionally good and very helpful. Gave us advice on nightlife, places to see etc..
Location. Facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.Swimming pool.Relaxed atmosphere. No English TV.
staff and service received very good.Cleanliness of room and good choice at breakfast.
Staff friendly and helpful also english speaking which was helpful
the flute being played in the room next door, the rooftop pool the food was very mediocre. i had dinner once and it was poor - awful, certainly not worth twenty euros. the only good thing about the breakfast was the fresh fruit. the bacon and the fried eggs were a joke as was the toasted sandwich. i stuck to the fruit. the juice was artificial, the beverage machine appalling. I expect far better than this in a four star hotel. i regret eating dinner there and resent the twenty euros spent on it.
We were staying in the town of Almunecar to attend our friends wedding. We had a wonderful trip and really enjoyed our stay at Bahia Almunecar. We particularly liked the cleanliness of the hotel and the helpful staff, the hotel is in a very good location close to shops, beach and nightlife. It is also very reasonably priced, as is everything in Spain!
A nice pleasant place with helpful and friendly staff. Additional car parking charge of €9 per night
parking place; and the fact that in the kitchen there were a lot of ants, even an apple on the table bring in the room a lot of them
we were very disapointed to find a run down , unlockable doors, bizarre decor, poor location toilet leaked, then smelled dreadful aircon didn't work broken mirrors throughout.. soft beds..
We thought the room was very good. We did not like the fact that the bar and restaurant where closed and we were not informed when booking.
The heating was powerful & the staff were good. The breakfast was good. The suite was very presentable. The outside rendering is in a dangerous state. We sat on our balcony & a workman knocked a load of it off the balcony upstairs right on top of us. We told reception who apologised, but there was no back up visit from the manager to see how we were. It caused cuts & bruises & made our clothes dirty. Most people would have sued. I know it was just stupidity on the part of the workman, but a show of concern would have been appreciated.
The poolside area and night-time bar areas were quite nice in terms of decor, layout and ambience. Service was incredibly slow, staff looked apathethic in terms of looking after their customers. The pool-side eating times were too short (1-4.30pm), especially when it took the staff typically 45minutes to make anything and hotel prices were expensive compared to getting the same @in town". Also it was a good 15-20 minute walk to the beach area with other bars, restaurants etc.
Its not a regular hotel. Its an aparthotel for family holidays.. And from what i remember your site didnt say anything about that.
Built 25 years ago and still decorated in the style of that period, it clearly was the peak of excellence at that time. It has not lost it's charm. Swimming pool again of it's period. Buffet breakfast in the morning was wonderful! Great staff at the front desk. Masses of space in the suites, which were clean. The evening meal was from the 1980s. Gormet it was not! Eat out!!! Our children only ate the bread. Home made deserts were served in a plastic container, and were vile. We were not charged! Saying all this, we are booked back in by choice for our return journey in a few days. The benefits are much stronger than the bad points.
The pool area is amazing and the rooms were comfortable. The kitchen area in the suite needed some updating. We ordered drinks by the pool and they were terrible!
It was very handy having a fully functional kitchen in the room. There was a small supermarket nearby which was great for dining in. The restaurant food was not great at all, and expensive for what it was.
very good location. Lovely, light, spacious rooms. The hotel was very quiet and we were given a room with garden views which was excellent.Very good breakfasts. The staff were very helpful and polite No.Don't be put off by previous reviews !
Friendly and very helpful staff. The hotel was clean and comfortable and well situated for the beach. Parking available. Good value
I found that the htel was about average for a 3 star hotel. Nothing was out standing, but having said that I would stay there again if or when I am in that area again.
the staff were freindly, food was good location just right quite in the night i liked everything
Loved it, excellent and would go there again. Would have loved a kettle/hot water facility in our room
The staff were extremely friendly, very clean rooms and the food was excellent, especially the dinner. It was the best small hotel I have stayed in. The only very small niggle was that the shower was a bit small with a plastic shower curtain.
Hotel was easy to find. Staff were very friendly and it had a relaxed atmosphere. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Was very convenient for La Herradura beach, local attractions, restaurants etc. Shame no tea and coffee making facilities in room, but accept this is normal in european hotels. Hotel designated parking facilities only at cost, otherwise on street parking was available outside Hotel.
Staff very friendly, English speaking as well at reception. Received advice on where to park the car, much appreaciated. Enjoyed the nice rooftop terrace where we had the buffet breakfast and the waiter that walked us through all the choices on our first morning was a nice touch. The room was clean and quiet, AC making almost no noise (was not sure first if it is running this is how quiet it was). Finding your way to the hotel first time by car could be a bit confusing, you have to arrive at the back of the hotel in order to unload the car.
pleasant staff close to amenities
The staff at the hotel was very helpful
The Hotel Almijara is a family run hotel with a warm and friendly ambiance. All the staff were welcoming and helpful, our room was spacious, the dining room bright and cheerfull with a reasonable choice for food for both breakfast and dinner and, as with the rest of the Hotel, spotlessly clean.
location, and staff. hotel was dark could look better with lighter decor also breakfast was poor but price was cheap so cant complain!
The friendliness of the staff was great!!!!
Breakfast and cleaning was good. The aircondition was not good enough
Swimming pool was closed , overlooked construction site , no restaurant for evening meal , booked an early morning call but did not get it, breakfast was aweful - cooked food was cold
I liked the friendly staff, the spacious and comfortable room, the cleanliness, the swimming pool It was a pitty the terras was not attractive (I hardly saw anyone taking dinner there) and the noisy rooms (noise from the street as well as from the neighbouring rooms)
Very friendly owners and service personal. Right by the sea, with beautiful sea views. Poor breakfast, old style furniture. There was a cafe downstairs, so we could not sleap well. No fridge in the room.
Right on the sea front. Good secure parking in hotel garage. Manager and staff very friendly. Rooms are a little 'tired' and probably need updating. Restaurant not really used much by guests.A few items in our bathroom broken (shower head bracket, toilet seat, pedal bin)
pleasant hotel to stay in. classification 3 stars and that is oke. the breakfast was very basic. No beach in front .The swimingpool.was part of the appartment and hotelguests where allowed to used it.
Staff is very friendly
The very friendly and helpful personnel Rather "sterile" neighbourhood with what looked like only hotel buildings from the 80s and 90s. We visited off season and the median age at the restaurants nearby was probably well above 50.
excellent staff, friendly atmosphere, very clean, reasonable price, central location, easy to find, very close to the beach no parking places, the internet connection not always working
Great location and the desk clerk (Ignacio) gave us wonderful advice about restaurants and places to visit. He also made our lovely little breakfast, fresh orange juice yum!And a lovely little room to sit in. Can't think of a thing, we will go back, we loved it and will recommend it to friends
It was very central but extremely noisy.
The hotel was ideally situated for exploring Almunicar, located in the centre, near to restaurants, bars, beach and sites of interest A little noisy during the night, teenagers out on the Saturday. Parking a short walk from the hotel.
Bedding and linen changed regularly. Good room size and views from windows. Close to centre, beaches just a short drive away. Clean and relatively quiet. Lack of understanding from Management and staff (Re: English). Lack of safe parking as our car was continuously blocked in by the next door neighbour and was vandalised whilst parked out side of hotel. As disabled this caused great inconvenience.
Friendly staff even though did not speak English, we got by. On an 8 day stay we would have liked the bedding changed mid way through, but we had clean towels every day, so as we were able to shower regularly the lack of Linen change was not to much of an issue.
The apartments are nice, the verandah is very spacious, we had great views of the hills and the city. Its location was a little too far from the beach, but we did have great views.
very helpful and pleasant staff.Wonderful accommodation and beautiful location. Will definitely recommend to friends. excellent
Space Unhelpful, ignorant staff
The appartament was beatiful, wide, with nice balcony. The seaside was quite long distance away. We came on Sunday evening and it was hard to find receptionist, the adress of hotel was not precise.
Good location. Quiet. Spanish feel. Balcony. Lack of kitchen utensils.
The apartment was excactly what we expected. And we really liked it. The spa was really nice and we really enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere . The staff is discreet, giving the customer space they need. The discomfort of having to check out on Saturday, even íf the depature date was on Sunday, because the reception is closed on Sundays. In addition it would be nice that the floor of the terrace would be clean. The dirt shifts rapidly from the terrace inside even if you use shoes that are taken off directly after entering.
The apartment was very nice, clean, nice bathroom and a good view. The spa was also very nice. In order to use the spa we had to go out on the street and walk some 300 meters, the same with the reception. This, combined with the fact that there are no telephones in the room, made any problem you needed to solve quite difficult. We had a few problems upon arrival among others the aircondition didn't work. In order to solve this I hade to get out and walk the streets a few times to get to and from the reception. We had travelled far and were tired so this I found real annoying and almost completely ruined our stay, because I became very angry. However, the hotel manager gave me a free massage which to some extent made up for it. However, all in all I was not happy with the place.
Tha apartment itself was modern, nicely designed, well equipped, and the air conditioning system very effective. The balcony also was of good size and very comfortable to enjoy in the evenings The air conditioning unit was quite large and noisey on the balcony, if it were to be left on; The views in general were varied; the location of the apartment allowed for lovely views of the hills to one side;there was a slight 'seaview' which was not a problem for us, but might be mis-leading to other guests
cleanliness, near the sea, not expensive parking as an extra
Spa is gorgeous, gym is well equipped. Located within walking distance (handy to have car) of beach, the location and summer weather is great. Apartment was very modern, well equipped and staff were extremely helpful despite our lack of Spanish.
The location was ideal, right on the beach. The late breakfast suited us (11am) and the staff were friendly. We had requested a Sea View room. But, to see the sea we had to lean out of the balcony and look around the corner.
quietness ,so relaxing resadents bar closed very early , no time to relax after a walk or a meal to enjoy a drink
staff and services
We enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel. The courtesy and service of the staff was 1st. class. Breakfast was excellent as was the choice of the buffet dinner. It was a nice experience to be surrounded by Spanish families on holoiday and not a word of english to be heard in La Herradura.
The place of the Hotel was so nice. Staff Barely speak english. the rooms with view are having just side view from the terrace. you have to explicitly declare during reservation for the need of king size bed as most of the rooms are with small beds.
No free hotspot. Hotel has own public use computer and overcharges by x3 for time of use.
Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, excellent value evening meal.
Staff very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Easy access to the beach opposite. The Atrium design. Roof top swimming pool. Easy access to Tourist Info centre next door. Would have liked small pillows in the room, ather than the long ones.Desserts on evening menu were a bit repetitive.
Pool area was dirty and needs updating
The room quality, generous beds, good facilities and an excellent breakfast. Dinner was buffet style and a poor standard for a 4* Hotel
Thought it was very relaxing and great place to chill out needs at bit of refurbishing
gorgeous views from our balcony, the restaurant and from the pool terrace air conditionining did not work the night we were there! There is only a buffet restaurant and the snack bar only serves basic sandwiches and snacks.
the staff was the best part of the hotel the cleanliness of the hotel was very poor and items that were supposed to be available were not i had been to this hotel before but it has got very poor
Isolation from the crowd.
Very scenic views looking down over Salobrena Town & Coast Line. Hotel Staff were not very friendly. Food was very poor. No entertainment provided by hotel. No shops/restaurants/bars within walking distance.
Great position with lovely views and great balcony with pool. Could be a great place with a bit of TLC but very tired and never been finished. had to pay for very poor tennis court.
We only used it as a stopover, but would love to stay longer another time it was excellent, we are going into France for a visit soon, and will use Best Western on the way if there are any!
The view. Run down. Elderly clientelle (SAGA).
position, room size, free wifi, swimming pool area un po' "scrostato" richiederebbe una rinfrescata.
Good location and rerasonable price There was loud music from a party downstairs.in the evening. I was just about to complain about it, when it stopped at 11 o´cloc in the evening.
more applicable to call it Hostal then Hotel. Should cost not more than 20 euro per night.
Friendly and helpful staff
