Pros: Microhotel is the excellent business or short term stay hotel in Basel. The staff is going out of it's way to accommodate every wish. Their hospitality and personal approach should be an example to many other high quality establishments! The location is right next to the Messe center and about 10-12 mins walk from the river and the historic center. The rooms are well equipped even with small things like shoehorn, lots of mirrors, cotton buds, etc, and are conveniently spacious and clean as if I had been the first guest in the room.

Cons: There was some street construction in front of the hotel at the time of my visit, making it confusing to find how to access the property. But that wasn't the hotel's fault! Pros: I used the offer of the spa included in the hotel. I booked a 25 minutes Shiatsu massage (the first I ever had) which I enjoyed so much that I could - spontaneously - elongate to 50 minutes. The masseur was marvellous and I we had a nice talk after it. He gave me some interesting pointers on my special interests in relation with my business.

Pros: Food. Breakfast selection. Chocolate.
Cons: Bed too hard and too short.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at GAIA are wonderful, friendly people who genuinely care about making your stay comfortable and happy. They attended to our two requests promptly and cheerfully. The breakfast buffet is comprehensive, fresh and delicious and served in a beautiful room. Our room was well equipped with comfortable bedding and lovely toiletries. The free mini bar, restocked daily with a variety of treats, is a generous gesture. The location is great. We loved our three nights at Gaia Hotel and would recommend it unreservedly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location and exceptional coffee and breakfast...
Cons: My room backed onto an alley way that trucks were parked in at 5.30am with engines idling. Not the hotel's fault at all but if you need sleep best to check where your room is located.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From check-in to leaving, an excellent experience. Hotel is literally across the street from the train station. It's a nice walk to the old town area and the river. And a quick trolly ride back with the included free town pass. Room was large and well equipped. Bath was spotless, well-equipped and with large walk-in shower. Included breakfast was delicious and offered good variety served in beautiful dining room.
Cons: Nothing. This hotel was great.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and modern decor. Excellent location just a couple of tram stops from the main touring sites. Complementary minibar and Basel card was a nice touch. Breakfast is as good as they say, worthwhile having it there.
Cons: The room is a bit small for our liking, however, we did not spend too much time there so it was okay for one night stay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice floor to ceiling windows for view. The view itself not so impressive (an enormous warehouse or something is in front of you) but it has a nice feeling generally. Value for money, especially if you consider that it is Switzerland, but also generally, for what it is 100 euros is nothing. Beds comfortable, nice lobby, not so far from the centre (like 10-12 mins walk)
Cons: Bigger rooms but not so much of a problem really
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location! People at the reception with a service orientation. Nice customer service approach. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable.
Cons: Prices in certain times are simply too high. I understand there are events in Messeplatz but prices can go to more than double and that's not nice.

Cons: No Aircon, narrow & low door to the room, no TV
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, lovely hotel. Unfortunately air conditioning wasn’t working well last week when temperatures were nearing 40 centigrade, thank goodness for the supplied fan.
Cons: Location and individuality of the hotel.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location, just off Barfussplatz, easy to reach by tram. There is an elevator from street level right on the square up to reception. But, be aware that there are still several steps up to reach the elevator. Our room had a modern bath with lots of hot water. Bright room ( We booked the superior room.) Overlooking the rooftops to the Muenster. Breakfast was OK with modest choice, would cook eggs if requested. The room had a ceiling fan which would be great on those hot days. Most older hotels do not have air conditioning.
Cons: We were disappointed to find that the lovely terrace we had read about was actually part of the restaurant and therefore you felt compelled to order drinks to sit there or dinner at night. The photos made the room look larger than the reality. There was no coffee maker or fridge ( they were not listed in the description so it was our oversight). People have stated that it was charming. I thought it was nice, but the room was impersonal, so would not describe it as charming. Value for money considered, we would stay elsewhere next time.
6.7 Good
Pros: The rooms we got were not like the pictures on the website - small and cramped. The breakfast was passable. Coffee wasn't all that great - lukewarm.
Cons: Called ahead because we were going to arrive late and arrangements were made for us to gain access to the hotel and to our rooms without someone there to help us. No parking for car.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff and an excellent breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and friendly staff. Room was very clean. Very good facilities. The hotel is centrally located.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was in Basel for a conference at the University so the hotel was in an excellent location for walking there each morning through the beautiful old town. A cold beer in the violon courtyard was the perfect end to each day. I found the hotel and city a very tranquil place to be and thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly staff. :-) Very nice "Old World style" atmosphere in the hotel, which I really enjoyed. Very good breakfast options. Wifi worked well. Handy lift brings you straight from reception to the square where all the trams easily take you around the city. As a hotel guest, you get a free public transport pass for the duration of your stay, brilliant idea. I'll definitely stay again.
Cons: Air conditioning would be nice as the room gets very hot in the summer.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great, very central location, in a former prison, historical building, great flair

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place to stay with very helpful friendly hosts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Maybe the best value for money stay I've used in Basel. The apartment was in good condition and clean, the kitchen was actually properly equipped with tea, coffee, sugar, spices, oil, pots, etc (most places barely provide a pot and some salt / pepper), the host was nice and helpful.
Cons: Slow internet
9.2 Excellent
Pros: They give a ticket to use all the public transportation in the city free no charge for all the days you're staying. Very easy and convinient. also it's only 2 minutes walk to the tram stations that will get you quickly to the main city and old city. I was surprised that the place looks even better than the pictures.
Cons: I was in July and the weather was extremely hot, 32 degrees Celsius, and it was too hot inside the room. No air-conditioner and no fan. So it was pretty hot at night. But there's a windows.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The Manager of Casa was lovely!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Easy to get to, spacious apartment, great kitchen and kiddie-extras, books, games etc all provided!
10.0 Excellent

6.3 Good
Pros: It was just ok
Cons: The towels and bed sheets
9.2 Excellent
Pros: For a city like Basel this guesthouse is pretty cheap. The room was great, with a modern kitchen and all the needed appliances and utensils to cook and eat (which is great when meals are so expensive). The common bath is very clean and comfortable. Bed is OK. A table was great for both working and eating. The location is close to the city centre and very quiet.
Cons: The fridge could have been quieter. There was also some water on the bathroom floor once, don't know where it comes from.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location: easy walk to 2 tram lines, 2 supermarkets nearby, quiet residential area Apartment: very clean, comfortable, excellent thoughtfully provisioned kitchen, cool even in very high heat because of the fans, loved the balcony Very helpful owner-manager

Featured amenities include a 24-hour business center, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Cons: Got an attic room with ceiling window only; the booking did not indicate it will be an attic. There was ventilator, but no Aircon
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was friendly and made an effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Excellent breakfast. Standard room was small but clean and comfortable. We were offered free mini bar which was a nice touch. Very nice garden and terrace in back. Good value for the money... one of the nicer places we’ve stayed in this price range.
Cons: Hotel was in a good location, but along a busy street. No air conditioning meant we had to keep the windows open and listen to traffic. Recommend asking for a room with garden view. 20 CHF for breakfast is steep but everything is just expensive in Basel.
4.2 Okay
Cons: No air conditioning The temperature was hot and it was very uncomfortable in the room especially sleeping with only a fan No bath mats in shower/bath making it very dangerous when it was soapy
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean room but not very big.
Cons: For a double room I would have expected a slightly bigger bed...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and spacious room, very comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast room. Good location near the river and the bridge into the old town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was bright, light and only 80m away from the tram/bus station, a short walk away from the river and from Kunstmuseum. The staff were excellent! Went out of their way to assist me in returning some articles I left behind in our room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Firstly, be careful parking outside to check in as some spots are all night and others are very short term. Wardens were about. Check in was smooth and the advice we were given regarding a good restaurant to eat at was excellent. The room was very clean and fans were readily available to help cool it down as it was warm when we visited. Beds very comfortable. The hotel is very well located for walking into the older part of the town. Which is a very clean lovely town and we will revisit when we stop over again to experience more of it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, modern hotel close to tram stop at Wettsteinplatz. Great breakfast with plenty of choices.
Cons: -
7.5 Good

Pros: Love the location - close to grocery store and walking path and work.
Cons: Room was a little warm - breakfast is not complimentary.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were extremely helpful; the rooms were comfortable; there was a lot choice for breakfast, catering for different tastes/needs including gluten-free options (although we could never quite get the coffee machine to produce decent decaf). Free hot and cold drinks in the lobby were very welcome. It's very close to a bus route (which was ideal for us as we were visiting relatives, but it's not particularly close to the centre of Basel).
Cons: There are not many places to eat locally, just a steak restaurant associated with the hotel and a couple of fast-food places in the shopping centre next door.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: I was not informed of building works prior to booking
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable, spacious room, friendly and helpful staff. We appreciated the little extras such as free still and sparkling mineral water, and a range of hot drinks available in the lobby. Very easy to get into and all over the city using buses and trams - the timetable is at each stop.
Cons: Nothing

Good-sized bathroom. - Parking just underneath the hotel is an added value - Late breakfast (until 12 noon during the weekend) with a good variety of options - Complimentary public transport card provided at checkin - Free coffee available at reception around the clock
Cons: - To purchase minibar items, one must go to the reception and ask staff. However, on a positive note, this is possible at any time.

Cons: I wish the breakfast was included. the Express breakfast was a bit pricey for what was offered

7.1 Good
Pros: Very spacious. Welcome fruit, water, wine and beer. convenient location- good supermarket nearby.
Cons: Personally, there was too much design knick-knacks that were annoying instead of appealing. It made for a homely feeling, but felt more like clutter. The unit is very clean, but there was a strong odor of cat-litter box that could't be rid of. The apartment tries to be upscale, but it feels more ikea than luxury.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Amazing views. Modern apartment with nice terrace. The owner was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We loved our stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredible. A group of us took a river cruise together. Only 4 of us (2 rooms) were staying at the hotel with others departing at various times during the day. The hotel staff stored the luggage onsite for us. This was so helpful and incredible service. We appreciated it so much. This hotel went above and beyond.
6.3 Good
Pros: Clean room and warm colorful atmosphere. The furniture layout is very conenient and feels modrern despie the old style feel of the building. The bed was very comfortable!
Cons: The room was located close to the elevator so it was a tad too noisy. The staff was not very smiling.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great spot for exploring Basel. The outdoor restaurant was obviously popular, but we only had a drink there. The breakfast was fantastic.
Cons: Bath gel but no bar of soap in the bathroom. Never saw any indication of a health club, but I jogged along the river, so it was fine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Older building with charm and modern amenities. Hot shower with great water pressure. Comfortable bed and convenient to the old town and the tram for connection to the SBB for travel almost anywhere in Europe.
Cons: A/C works but is not up to US standards. It’s in the 90s now and the room A/C struggles to get belo 80. Better than many places I’ve stayed in Europe but....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: room was big, bathroom was clean with a large shower and the bed was very comfortable. Staff arranged for a taxi to pick us up at 4:00 am and a wake up call for 3:00 am. Due to time of day checking out was a problem and we are waiting for a copy of our bill

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cute hotel and really easy to get to from the train station. Easy walk to all the major sights. We were there for only a short time period but just walked over to the zoo and then we went to the papermill museum - which by the way is fantastic, seriously one of the best museums i have been to. The breakfasts were great and my kid was free - we could choose from a variety of hot or cold items (although she did break into the mini-bar and ate a $5 can of pringles in 3 minutes without realizing how much the minibar items cost - last time i leave her alone to go ask the front desk staff a question).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, nice big room, happy staff, just right.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location, pretty close to the central area and the main train station spacious, clean and quiet room front desk staff very kind and helpful
Cons: N/A
4.6 Okay
Pros: The location. It's a very modern room the rooms are very large and they have nice views. If you want to lay in bed and have a shower dance perfect for you... monster the shower in the toilet or viewable from the bed. It's a little weird. I would have put a solid wall there for the shower and bathroom privacy
Cons: It's 90° outside and the hotel is supposed to have air conditioning. They do they just don't turn it on. Our first night here we check into the room and the temperature is 28 Celsius at 8 at night. So we finally made them change rooms for us otherwise we were going to check out and find another room. Then the next day we leave our key in the designated slot to activate the air conditioner and when we come home after a full day touring another city hoping for a nice cool room since we left our air conditioner on. We arrive and find that they took the key out of the slot that kept the air conditioner on and turned off our air conditioner for the entire day. If you're looking for a nice cool room with air conditioning during a summer visit do not stay here. It's hot hot hot and the AC is not not not available for you. The beds are very hard. The one thing I would say is that the location is excellent. The hotel is actually very nice they just can't seem to cool down the rooms
5.4 Okay
Cons: We had to leave earlier ( unforeseen circumstances) Paid for 9 nights upfront. Only stayed for 3 nights. The staff were utterly rude and unhelpful !!!!! Lost all our money!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice, clean hotel close to the center and also the bus/train stations. Room very clean and quiet. Fully airconditioned, wonderful shower room and great gym!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I loved the value for the hotel - for a very reasonable rate, I was able to get a loft/suite, which included a mini-kitchen. This was so helpful considering my extended stay for work. I also loved the location, close to multitude of restaurants, shops and nightlife, it can't be beaten. Finally, the gym is very well equipped, with modern fitness equipment, which is a high priority for me. Staff was also very friendly and helpful during my stay.
Cons: While many staff members were well-informed, polite, and helpful, there were a minority who were not.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room staff very nice
Cons: No

Cons: Noisy corridors and room was too close to the elevators

Pros: Location, service, room view
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location and friendly Staff!
Cons: Small outdated Room. Bathtub Shower with not much pressure! Restaurant Food quite good but pricey!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location fabulous, view of river from our room and a small balcony. Free bus pass.
Cons: Restaurant expensive and not a great deal of choice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was super comfortable, the location was spectacular! Close to tram station which we rode all over Basel, sightseeing, and right next to the historical bridge to all shopping and restaurants. The hotel provided free cards for all trams and buses! The included breakfast was superb! Great restaurant and bar for the evenings, too. Very warm and welcoming staff. Free bottled water and juice/soda. We really enjoyed our time at the Merian. Thank you!
Cons: The rooms were warm, as the building is historical and has no air. But there is a fan provided. We had a river view with balcony, so we kept glass doors open and fan bringing in cool air. Rooms are all modern and comfortable/super clean. Woul not stay there in a heat wave! But weather in Basel is pretty moderate.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Very pretty view out the river side.
Cons: NO AIR CONDITIONING! Early Sept. and it was hot. Open window and the noise made it impossible to sleep along with the flys etc. BEWARE! Breakfast was $75.00 USD for 2. And not worth it at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds, great location and spectacular view from the room.
Cons: Some items in the breakfast buffet were not being refilled.
