Court Residence - Linlithgow - Building
1
9.7 Excellent (413 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Linlithgow, Court Residence is within a 15-minute drive of Royal Highland Centre and Edinburgh Park.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was lovely. Really nice little kitchen with everything you would need for a breakfast in the room too. The building itself is so interesting as it was previously the courts. We stayed in the Jury Room so didn't have much noise from the road with the windows open as it is off to the side of the building.
Cons: I did have slightly unpleasant phone call with a staff member the day before my stay when I inquired about getting into a room slightly earlier than 3pm (as a family we had booked two rooms and we had a friends party at 3pm (the time of check in)). No 'give me your number and I'll let you know tomorrow when others check out' - like I have received at other apartments. Just told 'absolutely no guarantees'. This, however, had not changed my overall stay, which was lovely!

Cons: Workers started sanding and banging at 06.30 this morning
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic room. Very clean! Hazel was incredibly helpful and friendly. Pointed out an issue on departure and we have already received and email thanking us for letting them know.
Cons: Smelly drain in bathroom caused unpleasant odour throughout whole room. Dishwasher wasn’t working, didn’t inconvenience us though as we were only there one night.

Pros: Great room! Very friendly staff!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This aparthotel is an absolute gem of a find. It is a converted courthouse and has been renovated to an amazingly high standard. The rooms are exceptionally spacious with some great points such as a TV mounted at the base of the massive king size bed which swivelled in all directions which meant you could watch TV whilst lying in bed, sitting on the sofa or sitting at the dining table - absolutely brilliant. The owner Jimmy was exceptionally welcoming. The kitchen area had everything one could want and the en suite was awesome with a rain shower which was torrential! The floor was also heated. The room had LED mood lighting and even traditional wooden shutters which actually worked - providing total blackout at night. Your own breakfast basket is supplied and is very nice/comprehensive. The premises is right in the town centre of Linlithgow - which is lovely and surprisingly artisan. We are currently walking Lands End to John O'Groats and this was accommodation number 72 for us - it is easily in our top 5. The property is excellent value for money. Exceptional - absolutely loved it.
Cons: Nothing

Cons: Not much of a view from the window but that didn’t matter as everything else was fantastic.

Pros: Spacious and excellent quality accommodation. This was at least as good if not much better than most five star Hotels and Cruise Ships we have been in round the World. It is wonderful that we have such a top class establishment in Scotland served by the genuinely friendly hostess. You know the quality from all the details of everything from the bed to the carpet to the extras laid on for consumption. The breakfast was superb with everything you could wish for in a breakfast to last the whole day. The Eggs Benedict I had was probably the best I have ever had.I would thoroughly recommend it to all my fellow Scots and those from further afield.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts thought of every detail. If you wanted water, tea, coffee, beer, a snack, fruit, cookies or anything, they had it readily available. You could use the kitchen, the laundry facilities, a heater for your room and the iron. The place is in a great location and so very beautiful, clean and comfortable. We stayed at several B& B's on our two-week vacation and this was by far our favorite one!!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcoming and helpful hosts made our stay very enjoyable. Fantastic breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic in every way beautiful location super friendly hosts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Not even sure where to begin! Maybe breakfast was my favourite part... It was absolutely amazing! I have always found it problematic to organise vegan options so usually I don't even bother requesting it and just hope for some margarine and bread. But James' breakfast offered the widest range of vegan options, actually, a far greater selection than in my own household haha! On top of the perfect meal there is a fully equipped kitchen available for those who wish to cook during their stay! It's perfect for refueling when spending some time in the country. Although our visit this time wasn't about hiking in the countryside. We attended the Fly Open Air festival and couldn't have picked a better place to stay! It was a 5 minute walk from the entrance, and James prepared a treasure map showing how to get there. It was dead convenient to walk through through the fields at the end, while everybody else was queuing for the overcrowded buses to get back to Edinburgh. We were fast asleep in the comfiest bed by the time people got home. When checking out next morning, James also offered to give us a ride to the train station given that taxis were super busy with the festival goers. I wish we had stayed for another couple of days to fully enjoy what Parkhead House has to offer. Unfortunately, we never had the chance to meet Angela (the wifey), but James is an excellent chat, very entertaining and also informative when it comes to local knowledge, so I can only imagine her being just as endearing. He's great with guests and genuinely interested in people. I wish I was a bit more like him haha! I am sure we will be back soon, thanks for everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We travelled to attend a wedding anniversary, and chose Parkhead House largely because of the "Dog Friendly" description, It certainly was! All other aspects were excellent. A very enjoyable stay and we would certainly hope to return.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Harris Room that we stayed in was great for me and my 14 year old son as he had his own space but still close enough to feel safe (would have been made better if when locked from inside I could gain access with a key) The private bathroom was a great addition to both rooms. The beds are sooooooo comfortable and the whole property is dog friendly, my dogs enjoyed the break as much as we did.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: James was wonderful. Flexible with check in times, made breakfast early. We stayed one night early in the trip and our last night. At breakfast the first time he asked if we needed any condiments and I asked for hot sauce which he didn’t have, but by the time we stayed again he had gone out and bought hot sauce! Location was beautiful and peaceful, though a little too far from Edinburgh to allow us to spend as much time in the city as we would have liked, but that was a misjudgment on our part.
Cons: Shower water pressure was too low to easily wash my hair. It got a little warmer than average when we were staying and the room was a little hot since we couldn’t open the windows and there was no AC (that we were aware of).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the host. Most helpful I’ve met. Loved the snacks provided. Beautiful location. Liked that washcloths were provided along with the towels.
Cons: Water pressure in the shower was too low to wash my long hair.

Cons: Everything was fine
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fantastic B&B. The B&B is decorated to a very high spec and very tastefully done. The host was very welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. We have been fortunate to stay in a good many luxury b&b's over the years but I would definitely say this ranks among the best.
Cons: It is very difficult to find a negative. If pushed I would say the hairdryer flex was very short and the sockets are not readily accessible beside a mirror in the bedroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view. Unsurpassable.
Cons: Can’t supply a “didn’t like’!

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms can be made completely dark and beds are very comfortable. Great for an interrupted nights rest.
Cons: Everything you could possibly want from a boutique B&B is available at Champany House- for a cost. The service just didn’t excel, or in some cases match, equivalent complimentary services at other venues.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Olde world with lovely classic fittings, food excellent, staff very helpful.
Cons: We could have gotten a better rate had we booked directly with hotel which was disappointing, will remember that for again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place maintained to a very high standard in keeping with period traditions. Excellent breakfast..10 out of 10. Didn't dine there in evening but menu looked lovely. Comfortable beds and black out curtains assisted good night's sleep. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
Cons: Didn't realise I could have saved £32 by booking directly with the premises!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were all helpful, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was always excellent. The room was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable.
Cons: The room was quite hot for some reason but a fan was provided which solved the problem. The room was quite low lit for ambience which was lovely but, as a female guest, it would have been good for the lights on the shaving mirror and magnifying mirror in the bathroom to have been working so I could do my make-up!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was absolutely amazing and went over and above to accommodate our needs. Also-the restaurant was incredible... they had the BEST hot smoked salmon any of the 8 of us have ever had!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious, the welcome was warm and I felt at home through out my stay. Ian and Greig did a great job of looking after me - I felt like a house guest, in a very beautiful home. My room had a huge Victorian bath which looked out over the treetops - I usually prefer a shower, but a serene bath each morning was a great start to the day.
Cons: Nothing really, this is a great place. In my bedroom (which was really a suite) WiFi was a little slow - so in the evenings I mostly worked in the magnificent drawing room - WiFi was good there, and I had the room to myself.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about our stay was fantastic! I received a text from Grieg before our flight took off from London with directions to the property. Very helpful as it is easy to miss the sign on the road to get up the drive to this beautiful mansion house. Yes it really is a mansion! Decorated beautifully, not too flouncy though, just very tasteful. Iain and Grieg have a great eye for art too. breakfast was delicious and they were very acommadating with time to eat as its cooked to order. Especially good when you want to eat breakfast later! As we weren't driving I was initially concerned about how we would get to the wedding venue, a short taxi journey to Harburn Barn as it turned out! Also where to eat dinner locally and how to get into Edinburgh. All so easy thanks to Iain's help. The Brucefield Carvery a 10 minute walk was cheap and cheerful and the food was so good! When you're at Limefield you are largely on your own with access to a gorgeous sitting room but the guys are around should you need anything, just a text message away. There were such nice added touches that made our stay so great but I'll be waffling on for ages!Just wish I had booked for more than 2 nights. Thank you guys and we will definitely be back!
Cons: nothing!

Pros: Friendly hosts, lovely breakfast in a beautiful dining room. Met with a pot of tea and biscuits (our choice as we could have had a 'dram'!)
Cons: No fault of the hosts but the second night there the couple in the room directly above ours were shouting and swearing till the early hours! Very disturbing and upsetting.

Pros: The house has been nicely restored with an interesting collection of antiques. A lot of silver wear and Chinese vases. The sitting room lovely and the complimentary scotch appreciated. Very comfortable large twin room and en-suite bathroom.
Cons: Not much in the way of restaurant options within walking distance. The kitchen at the house only catering for breakfast which was excellent.
4.5 Okay
Pros: It is in private walled grounds and very few rooms
Cons: We stayed in the attic apartment and the kitchen was filthy , drawer front had fallen off, dishwasher still had dishes in it , worktops sticky and the oven has never been cleaned. Even the door handle into the apartment was falling off - a youth hostel is cleaner.

Pros: Friendly staff, good location (very pretty), comfortable room for its size.

Pros: Seating in lounge to low and not very Coffey for people over 60 but rest of cottage was lovely and very qwiat would recommend and stay again
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was fab, the dog walking area was amazing. The views breathtaking.
Cons: The cleaning of the bathroom could have been better. The bed side lamps didn't work
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a Lovely cottage in the middle of beautiful grounds of well maintained gardens and small woodland. It is easily accessible as it is located on one level , with good sized parking and in convenient location close to village amenities and train station. The cottage is well equipped with modernised bathroom and kitchen.
Cons: The only point I could find that could be improved is the seating in the front room which could do with a larger sofa for better comfort and ease of use ( especially for elderly people - we used instead the two comfy rocking chairs that are as well available )
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cottage was very clean with modern kitchen and bathroom and a lovely bedroom. It is equipped with everything you would need for a self catering holiday. The cottage is set in beautiful, tranquil gardens and countryside, so is perfect for a relaxing break. It is ideally located for visiting Edinburgh, the Lothians and central Scotland. I had a wonderful, restful few days.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A truly delightful cottage in beautiful surroundings
Cons: Couldn't find fault
7.0 Good
Pros: In a lovely location, everything you needed in it - nice size, comfy bed.
Cons: The furnishings were a bit dated/worn and it was a bit stoory.

Pros: Lovely location and very private. Ideal for the dogs as there was a small wooded walk for mornings and evenings.
Rooms @ The Royal - Harthill - Building

8.7 Excellent (164 reviews)
5.8 Okay
Pros: The room was very spacious and the bathroom was clean and there was plenty of room for me and my two children.
Cons: We were informed as we arrived that it was gala day and that there would be music until 1am. My heart sank but hopeful that it wouldn't be too noisy. It was horrendous, we got no sleep until it stopped! I feel we should have been informed of this when we booked as I wouldn't have stayed here if I knew. Harthill seems very run down with nothing there to do.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money and great staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was lovely, nice and clean. The guy who showed us up to our room was very pleasant. To be honest we booked this as everywhere else was fully booked and didn’t expect anything great but totally don’t judge a book by the cover.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and comfortable and spacious. Was in quadruple room 4 single beds.Good WiFi and all channels on tv worked staff and cleaner very nice and helpful.
Cons: Wasn’t anything I could fault also sound proof didn’t know was pub downstairs as couldn’t hear a thing from rooms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Really friendly staff and the rooms where spotless
10.0 Excellent

9.4 Excellent
Pros: Price, comfort, shower, nice people in the pub
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Was very clean and staff were so helpful..Enjoyed our stay ..Would definitely return
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nicely finished room; good bathroom; comfortable bed; good car parking. No breakfast and no food available in the pub, but there is a new, clean guest kitchen (no oven, just microwave) with cutlery, crockery, fridge, sink, cupboards, etc. There are takeways and a co-op supermarket very nearby.
Cons: Some noise from the pub downstairs (on a Saturday night!), but not too bad - and I wore earplugs to reduce it. Room was very warm (but it was a hot day); window opened but was over pub doorway some let in noise and cigarette smoke from outside.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are excellent & room really clean. There is also a fantastic restaurant across the road. The saying "don't judge a book by the cover" is certainly true in this case.
Cons: Could do with darker curtains as we woke up early because of the light.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good Host:) A very clean, very large bedroom with en-suite bathroom which was both clean and comfortable. Best sleep I had in a week :)
Cons: The only negatives I have are :- 1. The lack of any type of breakfast (if I had seen this I wouldn't personally have booked) 2. Car parking spaces are very small in on site car park. Couldn't get out of my car without risk of hitting adjacent vehicle. Luckily there's a car park over the road which is empty on a night and limited availability of parking on the main road. 3. Having too sit in my car eating a take-away as being in the middle of nowhere there are no facilities for a sit down meal. Obviously not a reflection on the Royal just the location restrictions.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely wee hotel spotless, great food and reasonably priced definitely be back
Cons: Nearly took exhaust off the car as we missed the turn in to carpark could only see the wee dirt track road round the back not a good idea
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room was well equipped and well appointed. Good size
Cons: Check-in could have been a little quicker
6.8 Good
Pros: Lovely location under the Forth Bridge. Some of the staff were helpful and pleasant. Continental breakfast was adequate (good croissants).
Cons: Bed sagged considerably in the middle and wasn’t comfortable. We phoned to explain we were arriving late (as we were travelling a long distance and got stuck in traffic). We were told it was not a problem. Arrived just after 11pm and everything was shut. Eventually someone opened the door and was quite rude. Not sure what else we could have done.
5.8 Okay
Cons: The coffee in the morning was terrible. The rooms were in need of refurbishing. Very poor sound proofing
7.0 Good
Pros: The location.
Cons: One of the staff was rude.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming old inn. Parking was easy. Well appointed, in keeping with the historic charm of the building.
7.0 Good
Pros: This hotel serves its purpose, it's a good place to stay in a beautiful town. It's right on the water which is lovely. We didn't eat at the pub, but it looked lovely.
Cons: There were a few issues- there was only a tiny bit of toilet paper left for us when we arrived so we had to go to the bar to ask for more (which they gave us, but we shouldn't have had to ask). There was also no cover on the toilet, which I find to be disgusting. Toilets should never be flushed without the cover, the water and bacteria spray everywhere, so I was VERY skeptical of the cleanliness of the bathroom. The bed also wasn't super comfortable, but it did the job. There were no outlets anywhere near the bed, which is super frustrating.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Cons: The continental breakfast could have done with a bit more choice. There was no cheese or eggs and no natural yogurt or bananas in the fruit selection.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Pleasant surroundings, went for daughters wedding family members were with us too which was nice we could all stay in one place.
Cons: Our room was in a poor state, could have done with a good coat of paint, curtains hanging off the pole in places. Other family members had better rooms.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Superb location
Cons: No mention of train noise some people might not expect as so close to bridge.

Pros: Breakfast good, room good, bed comfy
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, great venue and always very clean
Cons: The showers are always a challenge by either getting into the bath or trying to work out the taps
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good food and service nice room, easy to find.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Wasn’t too far from Edinburgh airport (reason we booked this hotel)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: location, room was clean & lovely comfortable
Cons: ate in the restaurant/bar on our first night, service was extremely slow & staff looked like they couldn’t be bothered, i had fish & chips the batter was soaking in some sort of oil was overpriced for what it was hotel was lovely restaurant not as lovely
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was ideal for where I needed to be for work. Really enjoyed the breakfast - kept me going all day!
Cons: There was a wedding reception going on, which I didn't know at the time of booking. This meant it was busy and noisy, with loud music until about midnight. Would not have booked if I had known.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Service was great, staff were friendly and knowledgeable, food was fantastic (try the scotch egg starter) and the hotel itself is generally well kept. Thank you for a pleasant stay :-)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Large, quiet comfortable bedroom. Convenient location just off the motorway.
Cons: The hotel specialises in events and the function room is just behind the reception. If you arrive when a party is in full flow it can be a bit off-putting to be 'greeted' by party goers who are well tanked up. Some of the staff were a bit 'functional' at times.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was lovely and clean
Cons: Very warm room Very busy with weddings sat and sunday
6.3 Good
Cons: The size of the room was so small and very dated. The window was straight into a flat roof with A/C units straight in front roughly 6ft away. Absolutely horrible and quite a depressing view. Done the damage a suppose but there’s much much better out there for the same price
