Wonderful location on the lake front, surrounded by mountains. Next to the boat stop for easy access. Food at the hotel restaurant was excellent, would recommend half board as local restaurants were dissapointing unless you go further afield. Staff were always friendly and helpful. The single room, had a good lake/mountain view and was well appointed, with a balcony too.
Spacious hotel, well decorated, good evening meals various and abbandant.
Impressive hotel in a superb location. Spacious room with large bathroom. Excellent indoor and outdoor swimming pools with towels(although thin) provided. Next to ferry that goes to different islands and towns. The breakfast at 25 euros was too expensive, we ate breakfast around the corner in a little cafe. It would have been nice to have more information on the hotel restaurants, bars, opening times, prices etc in the room information pack, we just had a room service menu.
Superb location & lakeside facilities. Very well placed for the town and for boat excursions. Daily invasion of couch parties - 9 coaches one night! We do not expect or wish evening entertainment in a luxury hotel but it would have been nice to have a pianist playing the usual pleasant background music.Private guests in the minority. Junior suite was disappointing - rather an 'attic conversion style'
Excellent breakfast choice and lovely views of the lake. Swimming pool Guests were a bit lost with all the conference guests taking priority
Swimming Pools very good, breakfast good, gardens lovely. Drinks in the bar very expensive - charged 7.50 Euro's per day for parking when street parking plentiful outside
swimming pool and related facilities
Location, layout, size Hotel charged for bigger room which was the only possible when I booked thru Booking Com. And gave me a smaller room of cheaper category! They shoul have given a refund of 60-70 €?
The setting was marvellous and the rooms were wonderful. The price of breakfast was extortionate a family of 5 is not going to pay £25 per head.
Fantastic Hotel! Everything was very nice. We had a family of five and were given two adjoining rooms with views of the lake. Be aware that not everything is included in the room rate. We had to pay extra for breakfast, our pet and parking. It was worth it and we weren't surprised.
The hotel was indeed in a splendid location; our room had a lakeside view which was quite stunning. The service and attention at the reception was first class, the pool and the sun terrace were lovely. We were astonished that during dinner Italian radio was the source of musical entertainment - not at all what you would expect in an hotel of this category. It seemed to cause consternation when we asked for the volume to be lowered as the speakers were right above our heads!
the room was very nice, staff friendly, the location directly on the lac, breakfast, the coffee not good,
the water in the swimmingpool was to cold
Lovely hotel, location fantastic, large rooms and staff helpful
The lake location was wonderful and the staff was excellent. We booked for one night, stayed for 3. We didn't like, .......that we had to leave!!
La situation au bord du lac, le buffet du petit déjeuner, l'ambiance générale. The mattresses and pillows were much too hard! Internet service should be included in this category of hotel.
The view. The menu items available in the main dining room.
The lake view breakfast was expensive and the choice poor for this money.May be it's because it is now the end of season .
The room Dining.- Food value/quality does not match hotel emitities
friendly staff, excellent food, swimming pool not a lot of obvious information about the locality and services available in the hotel.
Great Staff and Facilities - particularly the pool.
courtesy of staff, availability of parking space, closeness to centre, free swimming pool in hotel next door. two separate mattress in the double bed, too complicated heating and cooling system (we had to sleep with open windows because too hot and unable to decipher the thingie on the wall)
Very friendly staff and a very elegant hotel! We loved it! No complaints whatsoever
High class hotel, polite stuff. Restaurant for mainly customers with half board. Cost of dinner not visible anywhere.
Spacious room and stylish. The food at the restaurant needs really to be improved.
Staff are very helpful and efficient. The hotel and grounds are very well kept and clean and the pool area is beautiful. The food is mediocre and rather over priced and it would be nice to have a bar service at the pool.
Hotel staff was great. Friendly and service oriented. We had a nice room with big balcony. Restaurant Diner was based on menu's. With small children we prefer a la cart. Swimming pool water was way too cold but nice pool.
The Hotel was beautiful and relaxing, Staff were very friendly. We were upgraded to a room with a view and terrace, which made it excellent value for money. For a 4 star hotel I would have preferred proper hand towels not thin ones offered. Also a box of tissues not a little packet in box. Offer of Sauna, Jacuzzi etc was not included in the price, we would of had to pay extra.
Have stayed in many other Stresa Hotels ,this is the best by far..at a price The rooms do not have tea & coffee
all was excellent No
a truly "Grand" hotel, very spectacular museum-like design, full of artefacts and ambiance. Restaurant rather expensive but very good, staff helpful and efficient. Close to Stresa beaches, shops and restaurants I think it is applicable to all the most expensive and renouned hotels on the Stresa promenade. Lake - facing rooms are exposed to the noise from the road (which isn't very busy, but an occasional bike makes quite a sound) and those garden-facing -a train which is not quite close but the noise reverberates from the mountains, so we chose to sleep with the door closed and the air conditioning switched on on the last day. These are however minor problems compared to the grandeur of the experience.
Our stay was wonderful! We were upgraded to a gorgeous room overlooking the lake, however, all the rooms looked superb. We were a very short walk to the city center and could see the islands on the lake from our balcony. The boats to the islands were also close by. The staff at the hotel were more than outstanding and when our car broke down they completely took charge and helped us get a new car. We had a great facial and massage in their lovely spa. I couldn't say enough about this great hotel. It was a fabulous and I can understand why Ernest Hemingway wrote about it in "Farewell to Arms". The perfect start to our Italian vacation.
Incredible view of the lake and mountains. Great locatio in Stressa. Absolutely one of the best in Italy.
It was wonderful to experience a few days of grand "belle epoche" style. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we had a nice stay. I wish the lighting in the bedrooms was better for reading. The bedside lights are not great for reading. Since it was raining for most of our stay, this was important.
The decor is wonderful, location for the lake & town are excellent. I booked for October by mistake, but the reception staff were very understanding when we arrived a month earlier in September! They gave us one of the best rooms with big veranda, but one of our dogs got on to the stain glass room. It was a talking point of our stay! The price was fair for the quirkiness, but the full price is quick high.
We enjoyed the location, the scenery, the people, and food of the area. The hotel was centrally located and open at the time we were visiting.
Comfortable room.Good location.Attentive staff.A very good staging place to make day visit to other lakes. None.
The hotel has an unique and wonderful atmosphere. The room was very comfortable, clean and beauifully decorated. The staff (both in the reception and the staff in the restaurant) was extraordinary friendly and helpful. The food and service was excellent. The spa facility had a sauna and steamroom which looked very nice but was unfortunately turned off for most of the time so was not able to use it - which is a shame as the spa is very nice. The pool was open though.
This hotel is 1st Class!
the view ,kind personel a bit expensive
Location is excellent, the pool and garden are great. The restaurant - too many not-so-effective waiters, average food.
I liked the location of the hotel, the helpfulness of the staff, the breakfast and the room. I didn't love the location of the room in terms of a limited view.
Good location, nice staff, good food, good parking facilities, garage. The bed was too small!
Isola Bella+Isola Madre. The old part of Streza.Visiting the north part of Lago Maggiore A small room under the roof-hot! no A/C during our stay.
The hotel was impressive and very well maintained with a fine swimming pool. A good location in Stresa. The hotel was very good but I have the following comments: the room was very small but still comfortable there did not appear to be any bar service in the pool area - it would have been good to have the opportunity to have a cold drink (delivered)whilst enjoying the pool facilities
Beautiful design and internal fittings. Views of lake and mountains superb.
The hotel felt very traditional and grand. the decor was fantastic and the facilities excellent. Would have liked tea and coffee in the room
Situation beside lake, with view fron window and balcony. Price of breakfast.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a great view over the lake and the hotel was in an excellent position.
Very clean rooms, good carparking facilities, very good location The breakfast vas very basic.
Location is good.
The location was perfect, close to the water and restaurants No
location, view, value breakfast
Location Room chilly - had to ask for extra blanket
The marvelous view of Lake Maggiore from the balcony of our room; the staff very friendly; very close of the lake and all the important points of Baveno. We are longing to come back and if possible to the same room. No. Everything was fine. I have given de hotel references to my friends in Brazil already.
Very nice wellcome and people
Interesting and fairly informal, relaxing. Spacious room and balcony in nice quiet location, but only a few minutes walk from Lake Maggiore. Breakfast was alittle bland; better chice of fruit and better quality coffee would have been an improvement.
The hotel is very well situated in the centre of Baveno and the hotel staff is very friendly
condition was comfortable, stuff was friendly, location of my room beautiful no reason
central location of the hotel (near boats)
Well situated on the lakeside. Lovely lake side room with balcony.
We liked the view of the lake from our room, the use of the pool, the free parking and our massive bathroom. Also liked the general atmosphere of the hotel. Nobody's fault but the wifi wasn't working on the day it poured with rain - most probably to do with the weather.
The room was very spacious with a view of the lake. There was a good buffet breakfast and parking on site. Very convenient location close to the island boat quay.
Was everything we needed for our short break
Breathtaking view of the lake and extra large terrace complete with sunloungers. Bed a little small.
location, reception, free parking on site poor maintenance, superficious cleaning.
I was there so short time, so i cannot tell
the staff at this hotel were wonderful especially Angela the receptionist who was a mine of info the room couldnt have been better fab views very clean breakfast each morning great a five star experience we will be returning a s a p
I like the location and the vue over the see. Yes that the room vas very smal
Excellent hotel wonderful view.,nice!!
The reception staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The restaurant staff run a very impressive facility to a high standard, The view from my room was wonderfull and breathtaking and will remain the abiding image of our holiday. The room cleaning staff were very helpfull and work hard in keeping the rooms fresh and clean. Yes, the cost of using the Internet facility is the most expensive I have ever seen anywhere in the world. It is disgracefully slow and in my opinion borders upon being unusable.Twenty Euros for one hour is disgusting!! Either the Hotel or Swisscom are ripping off the Hotel patrons outrageously. It leaves a lasting bad memory of an otherwise very good hotel.
The staff were helpful and friendly. The room had a great view of the lake and the breakfast was very good
It was great. I would return. Perfect location, modern, and clean. Pool is across the street and right on the lake (better since you are in Stresa). They accomodated a family of three with an upgrade to a junior suite -- making sleeping arrangements comfortable for our adult son. It's hard to find a room for 3 with comfort!
Near the train station, breakfast, and could walk most places Front desk employees when in the concierge services could be more helpful and answer questions in greater detail, especially if a traveller is new to the area and new to Europe's transportation modes.
Location in Stresa
Everything there is excellent; the lake view, restaurant and rooms Not a thing
A very nice and supporting atmosphere, caring staff, they even run to the railway station to bring you the left colledge ring. Bath, brilliant view to the lake. -
The hotel atmosphere.
Nice hotel, not overwhelmingly luxurious, or large, just right for our taste. True 4 stars and in off season good value for money. Probably the most enjoyable in a trip that took us from Italy through Switzerland, Germany and France. Street noise as we were offered lake view room, but the heat in the room to high and we slept with the window open.
Location and view to lake
friendly staff who spoke English only buffet dinner available. No wine in the minibar. Pool outside and you had to cross the road with heavy traffic to get there.
Free parking, 5 minute walk to 4 resteraunts, great view
Stunning lakeside location, wonderful views from the room and the rest of the hotel. Able to swim from the hotels grounds, plenty of sunloungers, perfect for soaking up the tranquil lake.
Beautiful view of the lake, beds very comfortable, friendly staff. Great value. Had parking on site
Lovely staff and breakfast area No evening meal. The hotel, judging from our room, is 20 years past its best.
very friendly staff!! Great view
Very nice view to lake and mountains and also a very cosi garden to relax. A beautiful place !
Directly on the lake front (but certainly not the only one in the area, as it was claimed in booking.com description!). Nice staff. All rooms have balconies to the lake. Good parking for car. Very close to the main road but because all the rooms are facing the lake, there was no noise. There is no air-conditioning in the rooms so very painfully warm nights to be expected in July-August time. Internet is not free although it was stated so in the reservation confirmation. Hotel location is bit out of the center so basically you need a car to get to the restaurants for dinner.
The location and views from bedroom and breakfast room. Decor in need of some modernisation.
The location is very nice with an excellent view of the lake, and staff is very kind.
The top-floor room was comfortable with a fantastic view, the breakfast was excellent, and all the staff were most attentive and accommodating. It would have been good to have a fridge and kettle in the room. The shower was a bit cramped. The free wifi access turned out not to be free.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was great, the hotel is in a very good location and we enjoyed our stay. We would definitely stay here again. About the only place around that would offer us parking for a hire car which was a real plus. Slight road noise if room on lakeside, but air conditioning and lovely balcony more than compensates for this.
The owner and his family at Hotel Alpi were extremely welcoming from the very first day when we arrived. Our double room was spacious, clean and had a lovely view of the lake. The room was air conditioned and was cool during the day and night. Being so close to the lake, we were able to walk down to the beach, which took around 5-10 mins. Breakfast was included and was a buffet which was very tasty. We ate out in the evenings with only a short walk into Baveno (approx 10 mins walk to the centre) with a plentiful supply of good restaurants/pizzerias to chose from. We hired a car during our stay which unfortunately developed a puncture. The owner very kindly escorted me to and from the local garage and helped me arrange the repair of the car. Overlooking the road and the lake meant there was some road traffic when the balcony door was open. However, being used to living in a city this was not a problem and with the door closed there was no problem.
Very friendly staff, clean room We ordered a room with lake view, for which we paid extra.. but this was on the side of the main road, which was noisy at night, if you wanted to leave the window open .. sound proof window, so OK when closed
Nicely located, friendly staff, free parking available, good air conditioning, nice view
View over the lake. Friendly staff.
The manager and staff were excellent. Very friendly and ready to assist with questions and concerns. The hotel was extremely clean and very modern. It exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this hotel.
excellent combination of high standard service with home like atmosphere
Staff was very helpfull and theis services was great Wireless Internet connection exist but not working; The computer in the loby is so protected that you don't have acces to basic services, FTP, Telenet, Command Prompt....,
The hotel location is in the center of Baveno, well equipped rooms, very nice and willing to help staff. familty attitude, fair prices and nice view of Majore lack from some of the rooms
It was extremely hot so the air conditioning was great! Hotel staff were very efficient and most of them spoke English. Wonderful scenery too. No!
The restaurant is excellent and the village very cosy Not aircondition in all rooms
Welcoming staff who were able to speak English. Very clean and well situated. Godd car parking facilities. Breakfast was good if a little basic - lacked friut. Bedrooms were quite small and bare - no pictures or ornament.
the best thing about serenella is simone, the young lady receptionist, who went out of her way to help us with information, advice and assistance. hotel was clean, restaurant ok. locatiion was away from hustle and bustle of baveno/stresa which was fine by us, and the lake was only a couple of blocks away. our room was at the back and quiet. we stayed for an additional night since it was convenient to attractions (we had a car) we thought the owner was a bit aloof (but maybe his command of english wasn't too good). breakfast wasn't the best or the worst.
Nice rooms, elegant design. Restaurant has extremely good food.Private parking.
The room was lovely, the bathroom quite big and very clean. Although the hotel was on quite a noisy road with the window shut it was very quiet, and there was air con in the room so having the window closed wasn't a big problem. The restaurant was amazing - but quite pricey so as we were on a budget we could only afford to eat there once! The breakfast wasn't great. There were some lovely fresh crossiants every day but apart from that there was instant coffee which was horrible and some very nasty wet reformed ham. It was a shame as the hotel was so nice it wouldn't have taken much to have fresh coffee and a slightly nicer ham.
restaurant!!! very small bathroom
Close proximity to promenade along lake (we could walk). We drove to other towns, and a bus stop is close to hotel if you don't have a car. This hotel has a great restaurant. Some rooms have balconies but we booked too late.
The care and attention of the dining room staff, the ambience, the excellent service of the shuttle bus drivers. Rather poor pool service. I.E. they seemed to decide whether anyone would use the pool rather than the customer. We had to collect own mattresses and towels after exploring under hotel. The request to reception for help was answered by "immediately" which never came. Admittedly the weather was doubtful but still felt we should be able to use pool if we wanted too.
I liked the location of the hotel on the shore of Lake Maggiore with the view of the Borromean Islands front and center. The furnishings and finishes in the hotel were excellent. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The bath was cramped although it included a toilet, bidet, double sinks, shower and jacuzzi tub. The room was not spacious either but the furnishings were very nice.
being welcomed by professionals; great assistance and service; wonderful food; comfort; spa-massages swimming pool area too noisy due to nearby busy road, unfortunately this cannot be changed... They have a nice tennis court, but it is abandoned, a real pity.
Excellent, no problems at all. Price could be lower for multiple nights.
I absolutely loved the view of Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori. It has the best view of any hotel in that region! Gorgeous! Didn't eat breakfast in hotel...to expensive! I'm sure it was good though. It would be great if they offered a continental breakfast for lighter eaters that was included in the room price,
The hotel had a warm ,comfortable atmosphere and the staff were professional yet friendly.they accomodated our needs very well..nothing was too much trouble.dining room was excellent.room 105 stunning view The swimming pool is outdoor,i cant remember noting that beforehand.there was some confusion with booking appointments for facials etc.we would have liked the courtesy car to have run more frequently at peak times but were happy that there was a service.these are very minor comments!
Smart, professional staff and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
Excellent hotel staff and srevice all around. Typical of Europe rooms were small, not like viewed on website. We did not get the class/level of rooms we paid for with no remedy from the hotel, this was a real dissappointment.
The hotel decor was fabulous. The restaurant and bar staff very friendly. The beds were a bit on the hard side.
the luxury, the decor and the amazing views of lake maggiore nothing i did not like.
The lakeside position of the Hotel is ideal and the view from the balcony in our room was exceltional.. It is a wonderful friendly family run hotel and the food was outstanding. True traditional Italian cuisine and reasonably priced. No hesitation in returning to Hotel. Only downside slightly difficult walk into Baveno for first 100 yeards.
Friendly helpful staff, spotlessly clean, amazing lakeside location, lovely food and service in restaurant. Short (5-10min) roadside walk to the town Baveno. We found this was fine - no path but there was enough space to walk and it is not a fast road - but would not want to do it with small children or older relatives if travelling with family.
The view from the balcony (lake view room) was worth the extra charge for the room. A free parking on site was very convenient. The breakfast was lame and insufficient, if you want the good coffee you have to pay extra 1.5 EUR otherwise you have to drink lousy coffee. The waitress was not kind and order us where to sit - away from the windows and view. The hotel is old and although it can be charming you should take it into consideration. There is no fridge or kettle in the room. The walk to Baveno is a bit risky and unpleasant. Baveno has very few restaurants and not very good from our experience.
Fabulous location on the the lake, beautiful scenery. The food was fresh, home made and nothing was too much trouble. In the future they may wish to add a small pool for those wishing to have a lazy day without a dipinb the lake.
The location of this hotel is very good and lake view is fantastic. We will definitely come back again.
Room was large with nice lake view, good bathroom, and very convenient for ferry. Free parking is easy to get. The Pallanza part of Verbania is more peaceful and family oriented than is the Intra part. Lack of comfortable chair(s) in such a large room was a bit hard to understand. Play area for children right in front of hotel (too much noise in afternoons).
Very friendly and helpful staff
Very nice location, recently renovated structure, warm and helpful reception.
Helpful and friendly staff our room was changed as soon as we had problems with air conditioning clean room with good view of lake The only negative thing was the restaurant. No prices listed. Food was expensive for quality and presentation. We paid 35 Euros a head plus wine for food which wasn't worthy of a canteen never mind a 4 star hotel. Cibo di scarsa qualitã . Non consiglio nessuno di mangiare qui.
This was our first trip to Italy and only for 2 days (while on holiday in Switzerland) but the hotel San Gottardo was easy to find, excellent quality and very centrally located, the staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke good english. Our room was spotlessly clean and had a lovely view of the lake. We chose to eat at a resturant down the road because we wanted to experiance as much of Italy as we could in our 2 days but the food in the hotel looked very good. I would recommend this hotel to every one and hope to stay there again for a longer holiday in Italy.
Friendly service and beautiful room.
What I expect from a hotel that it should be. Every thing was good.
My room with a view onto the lake, islands and mountains in the background. The staff were all very friendly and polite and were encouraging when I spoke in Italian. The bed was not very comfortable and the pillow were like a rock.
Excellent room, view and location, immediately opposite the ferry terminal. Parking is free outside the hotel (if you're patient), or there is hotel parking for a charge. The hotel is newly refurbished and the rooms are large and elegantly furnished. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We will definitely return.
Proximity of hotel to island ferry, helpful and friendly staff Noisy air conditioning unit from building next door. Only affects rooms on western side of hotel
