Spa facilities, swimming pool area and the hotel grounds and decor were very nice. Staff were also very attentive. Free wifi in the bedrooms. My room was very small although I was advised of this when booking so can't complain, there are a couple like this, and based on other reviews, most rooms are larger (although this would cost extra to the 185€ we paid per night). My main issue was the cost of any extras in the hotel. Menu prices and drinks were extortionate even if it has a michelin star. Since it's a good 10 minute drive from Avignon, if you don't have a car, you have to go by Taxi, and for some reason that costed around 25€ each one way journey too, making it an expensive couple of days. Not sure if it's normal, but the taxi drivers seemed to start their meter when they were called by the hotel, so the starting tariff would range from 6.50€ to 8.50€ which isn't great.
The friendliness of the staff and the food was fantastic Need a map to get there!!!
The staff were very attentive and polite. The layout and facilities in the hotel were lovely and there was a lot of attention to detail. Lovely scented rooms.
Relaxing, clean and friendly Too expensive by far and poor location
All the staff were exceptionally polite and helpful, especially the staff at reception, and the restaurant was of a good standard.
We absolutely loved this hotel! It has lots of Provencial charm and our room was very pretty and spacious. It is the perfect place to stay in Provence if you don't want to be with all the crowds in Avignon center. It is about a 10 minute drive to Avignon and easy access to other areas of the Luberon region. There are no restaraunts nearby so you will need a car for sure. The hotel has wonderful food but is pricey. It has a great outdoor pool, indoor pool with spa, very lush landscaping and beautiful patios. Very attentive service and wonderful personel.
quiteness, close to town centre, spacious garden pool water was not heated and a bit too cold
The hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, but once through the doors a large, beautiful courtyard (very well maintained) appears. Nice pool area, and well appointed spa area. Fantastic meal at the restaurant. Very friendly staff. The location is a little "off the beaten path", and you need a car to get anywhere. Overall, a little pricey (both room rate and restaurant).
Very nice and quiet! Excellent Dinner. Very friendly staff. Secure place and parking ground. Close to Avignon. Will come back...
We knew this hotel from a previous stay 10 years ago, it was nice to find out that it still matched our expectations. The restaurant as good as ever.
Breakfast room staff was excellent, especially the lady manager! None
As always staying in a Novotel hotel is excellent. They cater for children which is an added bonus. The hotel was lovely and the reception staff excellent. We will definately use this hotel again.
Very nice for a four day stay in Provence. Good breakfasts, nice resaurant. lovely clean rooms. Excellent, friendly, helpful staff Bed a bit on the hard side
Staff is excellent. And, good location for the travel in Provance area.
Herve (maitre d' ")was particularly helpful. A very pleasant feeling about the hotel. The continuous breakfast "cafe" is also a good idea. Lack of mirrors in room for ladies to do obvious things for preparation. Also no plug for hair rollers in bathroom which was only mirror. What does a woman do!!!!!
Location and security The pull out couch bed was unacceptable.
clean room friendly staff plus good value for money
Comfort of the room, very good attitude of the hotel staff, good price during Holy Week, good location to travel around Provençe. In summary, excellent value for money. Location is good in the sense that it is very close to the highway to travel around, but it is not in a charming place (commercial centre area). However, it was also useful to eat at night, taking into account that we travelled with our 5 year old daughter.
Convenient location close to Autoroute. Helpful staff and very pleasant rooms.
close to restaurants and shopping mall. The front desk counter was friendly and helpful the parking compound was dusty.
Room was good and breakfast was excellent No swimming pool
Friendly staff, cleanliness, excellent value for the cost
perfect kitchen and stuff, nice pool and atmosphere
A charming inn rich with history. The grounds are beautiful and one of the best bathrooms we have had in France. A lovely place if money is no object, although we did get three nights for the price of two on the booking.com site. The meals were over the top expensive. We were seated in the dining room and the owner came in and told my husband he should be wearing a jacket for dinner. This embarrassing situation could have been avoided if the website had indicated their policy or strong suggestion for dress attire. Because of this, we chose not to eat subsequent meals at the hotel and dined elsewhere.
The service was excellent, the food was out of this world (congratulations to the chef), overall the staff was very friendly and helped regarding all our requests. Relaxed atmosphere No, we were very happy. Clients should be aware that although the rooms are very reasonably priced (semi-luxurious, I would say), the restaurant is very expensive. But it was well worth it. The food was stupendous.
The staffs of hotel are very nice and friendly. Dinner was excellent and especially enjoyed to see wine list which had a lot of reasonable priced bordeaux grand vin of good vintage.
Standard of hotel A1 100% top notch, as too were the staff. Fantastic location, ditto premises and attention to detail. Totally perfect in every way, could not have been better. We will return.....
Accomodation is very complete, staff is professional. The ambiance is nice (manor and chapel). Swimming pool relatively big. The elevator in the chapel is very slow and the carpet in it has to be cleaned. But this is a minor issue.
The hotel is beautiful with excellent grounds. First class restaurant. The air-conditioning in our room did not work which made for a very hot night. Staff were informed but took no action.
Great Service and Food, very rustic and very french Air conditioning did not work very well in the room because of poor design
We liked this typical atmosphere one gets in French Hotels et Chateaux, unique in the world. We also liked the central situation in the Provence, close to Avignon, very close to the highway. no complaints
This is a beautiful place for a romantic getaway. The staff are attentive, the food is to die for, the ambience romantic and waking up with a view over the vines is divine......10 out of 10. We have nothing negative to say
It was an incredible setting with very friendly, accomodating staff. It was a highlight of our trip. It is expensive but it was worth it for a special experience. Evening meal was superb. Breakfast is over priced (but so are most French hotel breakfasts) however due to remoteness there are few other options.
The hotel staff were excellent! We could not find a restaurant to eat at a nearby town and returned to the Castle hungry after they closed the restaurant and they sent for the cook who returned and made us dinner. Excellent service!!! Rooms were great however needs a bit of repair! Views were incredible!
We really felt like royalty
staff were very friendly. breakfast was great too. location beautiful.very relaxing
Location is prime, the Chateau is located up on the small hill right in the middle of the vineyards, there is also a miniature arc that resembles the Chateau at the entrance driveway so you won't miss it. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated (period decoration) and the toiletries provided were attentive. Staff speaks perfect English and extremely helpful and nice. Definitely the place to stay for the whole french experience. There is also a swimming pool, but it wasn't open the time we were there (September). There is also wine tasting within the vicinity. Our friends stayed in the cheapeast classic room which was extremely basic, it almost felt like the little maid's room tuck in the corner, although the bathroom was top specs. We stayed in the room which was a slight upgrade, and it was a million times different, it was worth the extra 20EUR for the room. Breakfast is continental and quite expensive. The most disappointing was room facilities, there was no kettle or any warm drinks in the room. Our friend had to ask for hot water, and the reply we had was hot water is only provided in the deluxed bedroom, but in the end they gave her some hot water as she wasn't feeling well. Considering the room prices, I thought there would be provision for hot drinks in the room.
I liked the site, the castle and the room. The staff, actually the owners, were very frendly. We dined at the restaurant and the meal was really nice. The breakfast at the terrace with a beautiful view was unforgettable. Nothing
setting, building, views, terrace, rooms - all was magnificent No
The Hotel is Stunning, one of the highlights of our trip. The staff and owners are friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, best meal on our trip. Overall a wonderful experience, we will beback. Not a thing wrong
Fabulous location, well appointed rooms, friendly and compentent staff. Great restaurant (new chef since Feb 2010). Excellent value.
A calm and relaxing environment. Large rooms with period furnishings, comfortable beds. Friendly welcoming staff. Would prefer a proper shower rather than roll top bath with hand set and no screen. Made showering very difficult. Perhaps a discrete reminder to other guests not to use mobile phones on the terrace during breakfast !!
The Hotel was very nice and quite. The rooms are very nice decorated and big. Bathroom are nice and clean. Beautiful Garden and Surroundings. To bad that there was no restaurant in the Hotel. No Minibar in the room, especially with no restaurant it's a pity!!
car parking, park aroud the hotel in my booking paper a check in time was shown as 12:00. I arrived at 13:30, but my room still has not been ready. it would taken 45 min additionaly.
I like about the Chateau de Varenne: big room, antique furnishings, location near Avignon and Orange, beautiful garden and friendly stuff
the setting, the atmosphere
We enjoyed the decoration of each room, we were splitted in 3 rooms, but also the saloons downstairs. The admosphere in all the Chateau is really nice. The staff prerfect. Really nice gardens, perfect place to visit Abignon. Place for breakfast at the terreace amazing. The shower/bathroom looks perfect under the Chateau point of view although were not confortable enough to take a shower or bath
We enjoyed the luxurious surrounding and the beauty of the chateau. The interious were of an exquisite standard and the hosts were very attentive.
Very beautiful hotel with Provence country style decoration. Nice couple (Sylvia & Dider) to serve us. No restaurant service. If there is additional playground or games room for children will be perfect.
staff was gracious and knowledgeable mattress was very uncomfortable, pillows were mediocre quality. wifi not available in bedroom
Silence, gardens and staffs Due to very weak signal reception, WIFI internet access is not available as described
Staff was very kind. Make you feel the most important guest in the hotel. The room was clean and nice, exacty as I expected. Breakfast is too expensive.
Everything!! We had eaten at this hotel two years ago, and decided to spend a very special anniversary for one night en route to St Tropez. The room was very comfortable overlooking the beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Food was wonderful, tasty and well presented. A place to return to!
convenience too many little things were annoying at this hotel 1) canvas chair on my terrace broke as I sat in it, should have been noticed as defective. 2) no light in closet, and closet door hard to open as bed side table in the way 3) toilet room no where near sink, hard to wash hands, 3) restaurant rather grim and food only ordinary (unusual for France) 4) poolside noisy and crowded 5) No newspapers in the morning as at all other good hotels 5) my bath tub and sink dribbled the water in and out...took 35 minutes to fill tub 6) did not clean room until 2:00PM
Away from the centre of the old city, which was packed because of the Avignon Festival. Peace and quiet with rest and relaxation by the swimming pool could be followed by a short drive into the centre and some sight seeing.
Staff very helpful especially reception.Food was very good aswell. Expensive for the quality of the rooms-the hotel definitely needs to be refurbished and updated. There were no lounges/sitting areas and the restaurant/swimming pool area felt very cramped.Overall very expensive. For some reason my booking (I cancelled and then rebooked at a cheaper rate) didn't reach the hotel-luckily the hotel had a room.We moved after two nights.
We found the hotel to be very relaxing and peaceful. The staff were helpful and the food very good. The only slightly disappointing item was the Breakfast Buffet. Rather limited and unexciting.
Located at noisy street, non-clima.
General feeling of decadence
Welcoming staff, decor unusual but very well done, excellent restaurant, good breakfast. No, great value for money.
Everything was excellent. Sitting by the pool was great. The hotel has an interesting design, in the provenceale style. The rooms are personalized and convey a nice feeling. The breakfast was also great. Huge mugs of coffee!!!
People welcoming you instead of credit cards machines. Canal +
good environment The hotel stuff are very friendly.
Good breakfast and staff was very friendly. Room was small, but for the price, it was appropriate.
Car parking Hotel was difficult to find, small bathroom.
It was basic facilities but good. Breakfast was good. Only the smoke odour in the room
friendly staff, good cuisine, location not the top but avignon center easy reachable... to change tv screen...
Pleasant staff and comfortable room.
close to highway to Avignon Rooms are tiny.
very friendly and helpful staff made us feel welcome and want to return small room and bathroom
excellent for money. The breakfast could be better, but it's ok for France.
This is a beautiful countryside hotel. The room, the facilities and the view were beautiful. the air conditioning was broken and while it was fixed, the overall cooling at the hotel was not working very well during all our stay. Restaurant and breakfast are very expensive
very good michelin starred restaurant, quiet location in a garden the room was charged at 170 euros whereas the booking was made at 165 euros. This was only noticed later.
This was a wonderful hotel, good food, good wine and great location.
The food is to die for, the wine is wonderful, and the shower in the room - Wow. Not cheap but worth the premium.
The location is wonderful. Room is small and not so impressive when you walk in but the bathroom was petite, updated and quite lush. View from our room #9 was nice over the patio and pool area and in the distace were the vineyards. Food was fantastic but very expensive.
Pleasant surroundings away from main town of Chateauneuf du Pape.Helpful staff. Food good. and service ok. Hotel situated near a main road into Chateauneuf du Pape so could be noisy. Shower unit not modern and bathsink not practical.
Great to be in the country. It was easy to drive to some of the towns close by. No prob;em getting to Orange or Avignon or Arles. People need to be aware that safety standards are different. There were several steep ramps in the hallways that were not well marked. Also getting back onto the main road from the driveway can be tricky. It was hard to see the oncoming traffic, which there was quite a lot of. But overall it was a really nice place. The meals were quite expensive, very good but pricy!
Extremely helpful and accommodating staff, especially David. Best late night supper & breakfast during our trip - homemade marmalades, fresh squeezed juices, fresh bread, really good coffee, cheeses, etc. Great proximity to Chateuneuf-de-pape village and vineyards, Avignon, Tavel, Lirac, Pont du Gard, Nice, Orange. Quiet, peaceful. Beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside. Best value of all during 2 weeks of travel & cruise.
noisy, only 2 stars
The food was really good, imaginative and well presented. The wine selection was good though the markup was steep (like everywhere else). The room was comfortable with a nice view of pool and courtyard.
Nice hotel but it needs updating a little No safe!
The daytime manager was pleasant and helpful. Our second room was basic, but clean. The night manager was awful. The code we were given for after-hours check-in did not work, so some other guests let us in and helped us find him, but he was abusive and at first refused to help us. Only after we demonstrated that the machine wasn't working did he sullenly get us a room key - for an already occupied room. The room we finally got was small, dirty, hot and uncomfortable. The next day we were moved into a cleaner, cooler room. The hotel's location would have been very inconvenient for visiting Avignon, if not for the fact that extra buses were running during the July festival in Avignon.
Nothing Hotel building is like a container box. Very old and small room, too narrow for family. I strongly not recomend this hotel for family. I made 6 hotels for my vacation, this hotel is worst.
The pool was nice on a hot day. Breakfast was quite good for the price. We had to wait a long time to be booked in due to some problem with computer. The staff were very nice about it but a drink whilst we waited would have been nice. They did allow us to use our room towels for the pool whilst we waited. The hotel was not as we expected for the price. I think the pool cost a lot.
The staff is helpful and nice. The gentlemen helped us to book a taxi on our departure date. That's quie early and we won't be able to catch our train if he didn't help us. Though his mother language is Franch, he speaks quite good English. However the bill includes 4 breakfast but we juse ordered 2 at that time because we check-out early. (We just know that after leaving the hotel) Even worse, we missed the breakfast because we didn't wake up on time because we were still using the UK time.......wasting 4 breakfast in total.
Helpful staff, clean, good A/C, nice pool.
It was comfortable, clean and friendly and helpful staff. It was handy for trips to town but difficult to get to town when the buses were not running for a public holiday. The fact that there was only one bus and difficult to get to town during the public holiday time.I do not remember any details about the need
The air-conditioning worked only for the first day. Even when it was on, it did not help a lot. The room is just too stuffy and hot. Suggest not to stay during hot summer.
Pleasant reception staff, pool. Buffet breakfast soon ran out of food and staff refused to re stock the table, don't be last down for breakfast.
use of pool and close to main motorway and choice of eating facilities. only 1 of the 3 rooms booked was available - a second room was organised at a nearby acotel. very disappointed.
Good comfortable bed. Good Breakfast After hours there was no one at the hotel and the parking lot was locked. Was not sure how to check in.
The rooms were dark and tiny. The shower was definately not great.
The proximity to the Avignon Nord commercial centre and a number of restaurants, and proximity to the motorway and main roads to Avignon and other places in the vicinity.
24/7 checkout, free parking, free wifi, airconditioning. space shuttle bathroom (1 sq m probabably), bed looked like it was not cleaned after the previous client, poor breakfast for its price. Would be good value for money if the room costed about 30 euros, otherwise too expensive for the comfort provided.
Clean and tidy cheap and good for a one night stop over
Clean, compact, organised, good breakfast. Way out of town, wrong gps coordinates on info.
Basic spot for day/night trip, fairly remote from any city, within shopping complex, with no communication with the city.Selection driven by price.Clean place to sleep only Very unprofessional staff,no language skills and very unfriendly and unhelpful.I have exoerienced this, when got lost and tried to get driving directions on the phone.Room cramped with bunkbeds
The room is really value for money. Although the locations was away from Avignon centre, it was no problem for us as we had rented a car.
The staff was very nice. There are no internal hallways at Premiere Class. The hotel takes the motel concept. You access your room by the external balconies. Your window faces the balcony. At other hotels I avoid the ground floor as I like at least some privacy and want to avoid people being able to look through my window. At Premiere Class all rooms are ground floor rooms and there is no privacy. The windows are small so not much light comes in if you open your shades... and if you don't well the lighting was horrible. I felt like I was in a tiny dungeon. The desk was too small to sit at comfortably with my computer.
ok for a quick sleepover without any comfort requirements the room was dirty, linen and towels hadn't been changed for ages, with stains visible on pillow cases, bed linen and towels. it was obvious that someone in the hotel had tried to cover it up instead of changing it.
