Bellano hotels

Pros: We really enjoyed the one night stay at Meridiana. It was outstanding. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast provided. With all the hotels and restaurants we visited, they have provided the best and clean highchair for our little one, all in the details. I can't count how many times before I had to clean the highchairs before using it... For a parent it's very comforting to know they care about all guests, including the little ones.

Pros: The hotel is right on the lake with an amazing view over Como lake and the mountains. The hotel also has a really nice restaurant with a great view and delicious food. It's a perfect location for a weekend escape and relaxation. Unlike the neighboring Varenna, Bellano is not too touristy and quite quiet, which makes it even more enjoyable. Very much recommended place!

Pros: Our room was small, but right on the lake. The views from the balcony were spectacular. The dinning room has a small menu, but the food is very good. Breakfast included, the nightly rate was a terrific value. The hotel is in a much quieter town, just north of Varenna. As easy 10 min drive away from the tourists.

Cons: The bed was fine, but the pillows were rather hard. I still slept fine though, listening to the water just beyond the French doors

Pros: The host Marco and Tania was exceptional with their service, they were very professional and at the same time very friendly, and goes extra mile to provide excellent service to meet customers requirements. They even prepared a take away breakfast for us when we had to take early train. Hotel is by the lake and the view from the room and dining area was mind blowing, 10 minutes walking distance to station. Highly recommend

The hotel itself is very close to Bellano (just 5 minutes by walking). We would definitely come back and have already recommended Hotel Meridiana to other people! :)

Pros: The location is perfect 3min walk from the station, really easy to find. The staff is really lovely. I stayed in a single room with a bathroom. The room was spacious and the bathroom newly renovated.

Cons: Honestly there is nothing bad to say, except maybe about the pillow. It was a big bulky stuffed pillow, so I ended up not using it.

Pros: Absolutely stunning boutique hotel! Right on the lake with a beautifully manicured garden! The best breakfast we’ve ever seen! Lovely outside coffee house! Great outside spa bath! Also free bottle of wine! Angelo was simply an amazing host! We felt so relaxed here after heavy touring!

Cons: Nothing... stunning villa.....but don’t let anyone advise you to park at Varenna train station to go on a ferry to the lake. Our car was broken into and when we returned after 2 hours we discovered our 3 suitcases and 2 backpacks stolen from the boot... outside the one cafe. All our clothes gone. It has ruined our trip! There are professional thieves in the area that we weren’t warned about!

Cons: No communication about whether it was okay to arrive late - we were worried we wouldn't get in at 1am. Arriving to a tip - there was mess everywhere. Our room - very small with cat pillows. Cars with their boots open in the drive - very odd. Being woken up at 7am (after getting in VERY late on our honeymoon) and told to move our car.

Pros: Very friendly house. Great breakfast. Giovanni took us by car everywhere.

Pros: Antonio our host was wonderful! He met us at the B&B and showed us around. The breakfast was amazing and the location within walking distance into town. The deck overlooking Lake Como was a great spot to share a bottle of wine after dinner!

Cons: The decor was a little shabby chic but fit the vibe perfectly!! There was even an 8 track player in the entry way. Best coffee my husband had in Italy!! The driving can be a little tricky but definitely worth it!

Pros: We stayed with my daughter and had an amazing experience. she wasn’t feeling well when we arrived at the train station so I called villa anita to see if they could organise us a taxi. Instead Giovanni our host cane to pick us up via car, then on our next day took us out on lake Como in one of his beautiful ‘Lucia ‘ boats which are typical only for this region, it was incredibly nice views, everything picture perfect and being the first day of the year it gave us an amazing start to our 2020. Breakfast was prepared by beautiful Helena and the views from our room and the common areas just breathtaking, highly recommended stay many days if you can , will be back for sure ✌

Pros: Fantastic breakfast, I think the best I've ever seen at B&B in Italy - great choice of food (what's important for me, not only sweet ones that Italy is famous for), beautiful view from the balcony, very nice and hospitable owners - we were picked up by car from the pier and offered the same on the day of check-out. Although the villa is quite up on the hill there's a shortcut to way down and it is not that strenuous to climb up even for a 7 months pregnant woman like myself at that time :)

Cons: The bed was quite squeaky making it hard to sleep with two. The walls and doors were super thin, you could hear absolutely everything, but if you're ok with sleeping in earplugs you should be fine. Internet not working very well.

We lived her town of Bellanoand so appreciated the help she gave us getting down to the town and on to the day's adventures. Pros: Located in the beautiful quiet village of Bellano away from the tourist crowds of Lake Como with spectacular views over the lake. Renata our host was friendly, accommodating and extremely helpful with local information. She is an asset to the property. This property is a hidden gem on the shores of Lake Como. Village locals are friendly, speak some English and are family friendly. If you are the type of traveller that wants to relax in a beautiful location, away from the tourist crowds and immerse yourself in Italian village life, then this is the place to be.

Pros: Everything else was brilliant. Lovely and clean, incredible views, nice and spacious. Great pool (nice and clean, if small). Great staff. Fully equipped for everything we needed - most self catering places don't think to provide half of the kitchen stuff this place did. Other than my couple of picky bits, it was amazing - we had a fantastic stay and would return anytime

Cons: It was quite a hike up the hill from Bellano, with nine hairpin bends! The weather was too hot for us to attempt to walk up and down but I'm sure it could be done. There are eight apartments but only six car parking spaces so it was sometimes a bit difficult - we discovered another parking area later in the week. There was no aircon, but despite the heat leaving the windows open and blinds closed actually kept it nice and cool. We were woken early twice (6am dog barking and garden strimming) which wouldn't have happened if the window had been closed. I didn't like that the towels weren't changed in ten days (they were getting dirty by the end) or that we only had one teatowel for the whole time.

Pros: We loved the whole experience! Mrs Renata - the manager was very nice and helpful, the place was sparkling clean, comfortable and well equipped. The view was spectacular! We would love to come again.

Pros: Wow! Super location and welcome by manager Renata and owner was excellent you really get the impression these people care a lot about your stay. The view was unbelievable and the apartment was very clean and maintained.

Cons: Nothing to not like, but was uber conscious all day about arriving on time, although Luca was fairly flexible and lovely about it.

Pros: Breakfast was very nice - coffee, croissants, bread, fruits, eggs, ham, cheese. You could eat on your private balcony (in the room) or go to the terrace, which is very nice. The beach was literally over the street. So beautiful - at day- and night time! The hosts were super-friendly!

Pros: Very kind and friendly host that’s for the start, you’re free to comeback up to late hours because the gate stays open for long time. Breakfasts are very good, rooms are tidy and spacious, even in colder days if you come in autumn it’s warm and comfortable. You’re free to borrow bikes from garage and you should do it because there’s beautiful roads to explore with it. There’s also a beach right outside the gate so The lake is very close. You can also eat your breakfast with lake view! There’s also a creek right by the house which wakes you up in the morning and that is amazing.

Pros: Beautiful property on the lake right at the ferry stop and walking to town center. Full breakfast with amazing selection. Sweetly decorated and comfy lounge and bar were perfect place to sit and plan our days. We popped over to ever-touristy Bellagio by ferry for a look around and then up to the charming Varenna for lunch. The next day, we took shuttle bus down the coast a couple stops to walk the greenway along the lake from village to village. Keep a lookout for the friendly Artemis, who makes guests feel so happy and welcome; he’s a professional who knows the meaning of “hospitality.”

Cons: Staff were a bit slow in replenishing some foods for seemingly voracious appetites of demanding foreign travelers, who swooped in like vultures when food finally arrived. Also, some obviously veteran staff were somewhat impatient with late-comers and were more focused on clearing the dining room for the next set-up than they needed to be. Other than that

Pros: Very convenient location, right next to the ferry dock, great base to explore the middle lakes. Delicious breakfast and lots of other food options nearby. Fantastic views of the lake. We stayed at the end of fall, so didn't get to enjoy the pool, but would love to come back in summer. Clean rooms, small gym available. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Pros: We chose this hotel because its use by many high-end travel companies suggested quality, and it is one of the few on Lake Como directly fronting on the water. It does have faded grandeur and some palm trees. However, it was not a particularly good experience overall, starting with congested parking and a staircase down to the entrance. Our 'lake view' consisted mainly of the restaurant roof, and the room, although clean, was shabby (bed comfortable, though). Breakfast was no more than OK. Most guests were on half-board arrangements, and on the first of our 2 nights (a Saturday) dinner was really very poor. It picked up the second night. There was a fine-dining restaurant, which we were astonished to see had had a Michelin star in the recent past. A plus was the close proximity to the ferry-boat landing, and reception staff readily offered ferry timetables.

Cons: Restaurant staff were offhand and arrogant, determined to speak bad English instead of our preferred Italian. Coffee was not served in the restaurant but in a separate bar (where the staff attitude could not have been more different). The main lift remained out of order the whole time we were there.

Pros: The hotel was beautiful directly on Lake Como and very close to the ferry landing. We enjoyed the promenade that paralleled the lake and the mini options for cafés.

Pros: The view to the lake is magical. Breakfast is complete and tasty.

Pros: Superb location and the view from the room was fabulous. The staff were excellent and everything exceeded our expectations. Would love to return in the spring or summer when all the restaurants are open.

Pros: great little single room which was super clean. If your are staying in the back of the hotel on the street side the rubbish trucks do start early if you are a light sleeper! The pool which is right on the water was the best place to catch all the afternoon sun. A really good base right in town if you want a place to explore, hike or relax.

Cons: Pool was a little cold so we couldn’t swim in it (it was the end of September though!). Air con leaked slightly but these are small trivial problems and didn’t impact on the stay at all.

Control of heating within reasonable hours. Efficient Wifi. Mini fridge & TV not used but a plus. Bed firm but wide and comfortable. Sound proofed windows. Secure off road parking as an extra. Lovely paved sunset walk around the lake side with alternative cafes, bars and shops - beautiful! Could not be nearer to ferry embarkment. We stayed in February, so low season, therefore it was quiet with many places being shut around the lake, due to a low presence of visitors, which suited us perfectly. You can't have it all!

Thank you so much for the welcome bottle of Prosecco; ready directions and assistance with dinner reservations and taxi to the train station were much appreciated. I highly recommend touring the gardens and enjoying an evening Prosecco on the terrace as the sun sets across the lake. We could not have had a better stay - thank you again!

Cons: The room I was in could use a few updates - especially the bed, which wasn't a double as much as it was 2 singles pushed together. It felt like 2 lumpy, single mattresses from an old futon. But other than that, great.

Pros: Hotel had an arrangement with an off street parking garage next door. Be sure to reserve a space when booking with them if you are driving. On street parking would be difficult. Beautiful lake and garden views from our corner suite. Breakfast was OK. Quieter than being in the heart of town. A pleasant stay.

Cons: No dinner service and $$$$ for formal dinner at their sister hotel next door. There was more casual dinning at the sister hotel we should have used instead. Lots of good places to eat a short walk away.

Pros: On Piazza Garibaldi in the center of Menaggio, the hotel is charming, our room spacious, and the patio view of Lake Como splendid. Hotel is small, family run, and intimate. Locals wander in and out of the main floor cafe, grabbing an espresso and chatting with the owners, brothers Filippo and Luigi Beretta. The 10X10 arched windows were often opened in the glorious weather and many visitors ate in the piazza seating area. Even though there were boats to ride, hikes to take, and shops to visit, we found it hard to leave the hotel restaurant and/or our room. It was THAT wonderful.

Cons: We wish we had booked an even longer stay at Hotel du Lac Menaggio.

Pros: Breakfast offer was minimal - croissant with jam or roll with ham and cheese, but nice coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice were appreciated. Really helpful staff and just love the view from the front bar, and they make the best Negronis of an evening. Appreciated quiet room with lovely views.

Pros: Very central position, right beside the lake. Lovely view from the balcony over the Piazza. Rooms were functional and clean and the bed was large. Also very convenient and reasonably-priced parking at 12 euros per night.

Cons: It was very noisy: on the first night the last guests left the Piazza at 1.40am, less than 6 hours later at 7am (on a Saturday) the municipal authorities came to clean the Piazza with what sounded like a pneumatic drill - even with the windows closed it was impossible to sleep!

Pros: Location is great. Lovely to be so close to the lake. Close to bus stop and ferry terminal. Roof sitting area is a bonus for rooms that don’t have a lake view.

Cons: Bed not very comfortable. Noise from some machine, even on the top floor.

Cons: This is an old established family run hotel right on the lake in Menaggio and the only hotel available for our dates in early December 2019. Everything is top quality, but the room decoration and fittings are now rather dated and a bit gloomy. Sadly, there was no heat in the bathroom as the radiator was turned off and when we turned it on it leaked. The ac heating fan was noisy. It was between minus 2 and plus 6 centigrade during our stay.

Pros: Amazing views from the terrace and right smack bang in the middle of Varenna. The breakfast was superb and nothing felt like too much trouble.

Pros: breakfast was good. The dinner was fantastic and to get 10% off to dine there was an added bonus. Loved the view of the lake even if we were tucked away in between two buildings. Wish they would have upgraded us as it was our honeymoon. Liked that we had two small chairs on a very small balcony. Small box of chocolates was nice.

Cons: Huge bummer was that we could not turn on the air conditioning or for that matter turn off the heat! Apparently there is a law that come mid October the air conditioning can not be turned on. The only thing that helped was to open the window and close the shutters so that mosquitos could not get in. There were no screens which would have been nice. I wish they would have acknowledged our honeymoon in some way. Other places throughout our trip gave us a bottle of Prosecco with a note.
