Restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Hotel staff very polite and helpful. No complaints whatsoever. Value for money.
very good no
Getting a two bedroomed suite for the price of a single room in comparable hotels/ Excellent views - nice public areas, pool and spa facilities Lift was very small and slow.
peace and quiet.not harassed by anyone. parking is a bit tight and could do with a few more spaces.
The room and the hotel staff The restaurant
location. insufficient parking spaces.
the food was bad . the bar wasnt open when advertized
Location great. Spacious room. Excellent breakfast. On the whole most of the staff were friendly except the bar maid who seemed in a permanent grump. Needs urgent updating throughtout hotel. Need to fix lift especially when you have a baby to carry to the top floor.
The view and it had gym few broken items in room and hallways were a bit smelly. Not enough parking
Very relaxed atmoshpere Limited and expensive dinner menu
Clean and comfortable, helpful and friendly staff, excellent location. Good view over the garden to the sea. Heating too high - would have liked to turn it down but could only turn radiator on or off.
Typical old fashioned type hotel that you find in many English seaside resorts. Location is its best feature with good views of the entire seafront. We only stayed for one night. The breakfast (and the staff serving it) was very good. Probably more suitable for elderly people as Sidmouth is a very quiet town.
Clean and comfortable. Conveniently situated for town, beaches and for walking and exploring the South Devon area.
Comfy bed No blinds on the window
The location. It has a beautiful view of the sea. The lunch on the terrace was delightful and the pool is heated. It was all helped by the fact that the sun shone! There is also ample parking off road.A very enjoyable stay. No
Room was good, car parking was good and reasonable walking distance to town centre. The lift was too small.
Pleasant, attentive and helpful staff
I liked the ambience of the hotel, and the unfailing courtesy of all staff. The room with sea-view and balcony was very good, but just a little little lacking in space. The food was OK but certainly not "fine dining". Cooked breakfast was variable with some items hot and others lukewarm.
Vary relaxed atmosphere.
A very comfortable hotel in an excellent location. The staff were extremely nice and resolved a samll issue I had very quickly and entirely to my satisfaction.
Everything, from the time we arrived on the Friday until we left on the Monday morning was really lovely, the place the staff the food. Cannot fault anything. Hope to go back in the future.
Excellent staff who went to extra mile - early check in, booked taxi etc. Breakfast selection was limited for non-cooked breakfast eaters!
When we stayed there the weather was very heavy rain. The Royal Beacon offers in addition to bar snacks etc they have two fabulous restaurants within the building offering fine dining or Italian. Absolutely wonderful. I couldnt figure out how to shut of the glaring blue standby light on the flat screen tv in the bedroom
Relaxing, pleasant staff with good service, food in both restaurants was excellent and good value. All round ideal for a weekend break. Parking could well be a problem at popular times.
We enjoyed the sea view and the room was comfortable and welcoming. THe brakfast was a great start to the day. Unfortunately on arrival there was no record of our reservation but luckily there were rooms available at the hotel.
staff were really friendly and breakfast was good compared to travellodges etc the room was not comparable for the price
Standard of cleanliness and comfort of bedrooms. Tinned tomatos at breakfast, I feel that fresh tomatos would have raised the meal from good to very good.
We arrived to a really good welcome. Room was clean and comfortable and we had a good breakfast
Very friendly staff, loved breakfast.A very comfortable bed. The room was quite small and dated. The small electric fan heater in the bathroom did not work. We were told we had a good view from our room but the only things we could see was the car park area and the building s next door.
The catering for the function we attended at the Hotel was really excellent. No
Peaceful location, beautiful views of the coast. Good food well presented, staff attentively discrete. pleasant live music. Very good in room facilities, flowers, fruit etc Expensive meal charges with no opportunity to reduce the charge for smaller appetites.
Comfortable surroundings and excellent service
We had a really good relaxing weekend break .The staff were, without exception, very helpful and good.
We enjoyed the comfort, the excellence of the service and the friendliness of the staff
The meal and the entertainment on Tuesday evening were very good. And the house champagne was excellent. the cream teas too. the breakfasts were pretty drab for a hotel of this price range.
The standard of service and cleanliness was to be commended.A very relaxing hotel. We were given a sea view at no extra cost. The bed was a little bit too hard for me.
View of the sea and excellent food and service
The ambience atmosphere of the whole hotel - very relaxing with good attentative staff.
Excellent position, good food, high quality public rooms Too expensive
Wonderful view, great service
Friendly staff, Clean Hotel, Perfect location, but the Beds were very had, and the decor in the bedrooms needed modernising and updating. Beds were hard
Location. The reception staff could have been more helpful, carried our own bags as the chap was kind of wandering around. The beds could do with an upgrade for a 4 star hotel. Not very comfortable, woke up with painful joints.
We thought the hotel was in exellent condition, clean throughout. The staff were friendly and helpfull, will definatly stay again. Thank you margaret r Springham
A great hotel for anyone over 75 which was clearly the average age. Not a hotel for young couples or children
Swanky and pretentious. Failure in your attempt to be la de da
The staff were really very good and always on hand to serve. A lot of the other guests were very snooty and quiet rude. How hard is it to say "Good morning". This is not a reflection on the Hotel. We had a fantastic break.
We were able to relax and get away from the phone and email and pressures of life, and be spoiled a little. Everything was fine
the space to 'be'. would have appreciated being told more fully of the dining room system re breakfast. eg. did not dine in the hotel. On first morning we were asked which room when we went into breakfast - allocated a table. Assumed that that would be our table daily for breakfast. Staff had to correct us on that on the 3rd morning. Uncomfortable all round.
*Disturbed twice by cleaning staff. If reception know when someone has checked out or not, why do cleaning staff insist on entering the room when guests are still there? *Delete turn back. Not needed. *No prior knowledge of tie and jacket being required to dine, so not brought. As a cambridge univ professor I dress for dinner frequently. I go to a hotel to relax, not a 'busman's holiday'!
