Overview

The King Charles Inn is located in Charleston’s Historic District and dates back to the early 19th century. Originally the home of the Pavilion Hotel, this hotel hosted Edgar Allen Poe when he served as a soldier at Fort Moultrie nearby. The King Charles Inn was built in the same space in 1958 and has a rich history in a beautiful part of South Carolina.

Parking is entirely free for guests at the King Charles Inn, as is high-speed Wi-Fi, coffee during breakfast, tea and cookie service at night, and passes to Pivotal Fitness. It also hosts an evening reception featuring artisan cheeses and other accompaniments. There is an outdoor pool with a sundeck and terrace, along with a business center, and concierge services.

Each room is beautifully appointed, and guests can choose from a traditional double bed room, traditional queen, traditional king, and a deluxe king room. The hotel also offers king junior suites as well as two-double bed rooms for those who need the extra space. Inside the rooms, you can expect a large LCD television, Keurig coffeemaker, coffee pods, iron, hairdryer, and a mini refrigerator. Guests also have access to bottled water, an iHome iPod, and an iPhone docking station.

Guests don’t need to leave this majestic space to enjoy great Charleston dining as BREW Pub and Café is on-site. This café offers a hearty breakfast with items like chocolate croissants, homemade quiches, and egg sandwiches. Later in the day, guests can sample locally crafted wine, beer, and spirits while enjoying terrace seating overlooking the pool.

Location was perfect, central to everything, but 1. The fitness center was 0.2 miles away 2. There was no coffee pot in room and the 2 free coffees at the coffee shop weren’t available til 7 am 3. There was no fridge in the room 4. There were no comfortable chairs in the room. Will not return.

Pros (+) Location only
Cons (-) Room was smoky. Air conditioner would not cool the room lower than 70F even after it was inspected. Daily room cleaning was highly variable but consistently poor. Feels extremely dated. Terrible value.

Pros (+) The location was perfect. Could not be better to walk around town. Meeting street is there and the market is right there plus you are one block from King street. Parking is easy as well and the hotel area is safe. The pool is small but right on meeting street and has covered seatinbso you can watch the pool but be out of the sun if you want to. That was neat.
Cons (-) THe halls were under construction. They appear to have needed the renovation. Room was nice but it is small. We were not in it much so it was fine. If you are in the room a lot, this is a challenge.

Pros (+) The location was very good. I liked that they gave you 2 water bottles each day. The shower was great and the bathroom was VERY large.
Cons (-) The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were a joke. They were tiny and lumpy. The room could have been better maintained. One of the drawer pulls came loose. One day we didn't have enough towels. They usually provide 3 or 4, but we only had 2. I use 2 towels when I shower (one for hair and one for body). I didn't realize there were not enough towels. My husband got out of the shower and di...
