You have to be comfortable with parking in tight spaces, like in many older and smaller European cities. Most of the time, consider if you actually need a car, because taxis are very affordable. I needed it to visit places around Sarajevo, so this would be a good reason to get a car.

KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Sarajevo
It is highly recommended to rent a car during your time in Sarajevo, simply because there is no more efficient way to get around the city and country than with one. If you want to visit the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, for example, you could pay extra for a tour to take you there, or you could take in the countryside and drive the 35 kilometers (21.7 miles) to see one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s more unique sights for yourself.

One thing to keep in mind when road tripping outside of Sarajevo is that many of the roads and motorways are single lane roads, meaning cars passing each other is a very common occurrence. Be prepared for local drivers to pass you on such roads, and keep your eyes peeled for flashing headlights from cars behind you, which are used to warn you that they are about to pass you.
Like in many other capital cities today, rush hour can cause major congestion in Sarajevo. Sarajevo’s rush hour typically goes from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. during the work week, while the afternoon rush hour goes from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Both the M5 and the M18 can become severely bogged down with rush hour traffic during peak hours and, if possible, should be avoided by drivers.

If you intend to hire from one of the cheap car rentals in Sarajevo during winter, between the dates November 15 to April 15, ensure that your rental is fitted with winter tires. The tires on your vehicle must be MS, M+S, or M&S with at least 4 mm tread. The vehicle must also contain snow chains because, on certain roads, they must be used. When driving during this period, ensure that your headlights are always on because of the poor visibility experienced at this time. Additionally, before entering the street, remove all the ice and snow from your vehicle.

These people are scammers. They will not give you the car for any internet price or booking. They have hidden fees. I booked it many time with different websites and every time I come to pick it up it’s a scam and ended up not even getting a car. Wasted so many days and time dealing with the disputes

I could not get a car because I had to reserve and pay for a hard hat insurance in the amount of more than 700 euros. On Sunday, I could not do this because I had exhausted the limit on credit card banking transactions, which they did not accept from me. I think it looks like a scam. The amount I lost about 170 euros is small, and I don't have time for litigation. In general, this is a well-thought-out fraud scheme.

I had to wait for a while when picking up, as well as dropping off. The security deposit was very large, and it took them days to return it, which was not my bank issue - other rentals do this very quickly. The car was brand new, which was great, but not filled with gas, which was not great - I ended up wasting some money on gas that I didn't end up using.

There is nothing that I like about this 387 rentals they are scammers and very rude and unprofessional they have some old very small dent on the car bumper showing that all customers and they know exactly where this small old dent located trying to blame you for that small old dent to take your deposit money also they will push you to buy their insurance even if you have purchased previously full coverage they will charge you 360$ US plus deposit of 1000 euros if you got argued with them they will call police on you guy named Muhamed very rude and the lady who work there she will scream and yelling on you just to make you uncomfortable and cry to leave you depositing money to them I will sue them for this I recommended to all ppl who travel to Sarajevo DO NOT rent from 387 rent a car you wil save you money and nerve this company is nothing but the scammers taking hard earned money from customers
Reserved small suv, received a compact car. Europcar is blaming you for reservation as you “apparently did mistake “.even they send confirmation with the same car as you did. When I ask them to change the car and give me something similar as reserved, because I was with two grand kids and needed more room for child seat they told me to get out or they will call Police. When my cousin complained he received the same answer. Please contact me and I will provide more information.

Very polite and efficient staff. WiFi access at the office would have been useful
Absolutely horrible experience. A classical bait and switch operation. Sleazy to the core. It was " either you will pay four time as much as we advertised and agreed to charge, or we will not rent you a car", specifically targeting customers that didn't buy third party insurance through them. I ended up taking a taxi and renting a car next day from a competitor without any problems. Avis at Sarajevo airport is a disgrace to the Avis name. The man behind the counter had a name tag that said his name was Ermin Kovacevic, in case that Avis wants to do something to clean up the cesspool that is Avis Sarajevo airport office. I chose to rent with Avis exactly because I wanted to avoid situations like this, thinking that a well established company would have high standards and good customer service. Nope, I got exactly the opposite. Avoid Avis Sarajevo airport like a plague!

Big delays as they hadnt received the booking info so we had to wait for a car to be available and it wasnt the one we'd hoped for. We were also charged extra to reduce the security deposit from €5000 to €800 which i'd already paid for upfront. All in all, left me thinking the online service is very unreliable and ill be avoiding booking online in future.
