Ask before you leave counter which tent to go to. ? Make sure you keep pushing gas in even when it says it’s done or buy the gas plan.. No tolls in St Louis but plenty of potholes. Also car had automatic tire drive on -never Figuired out how to turn off for that particular car. Bring an umbrella may be out in tent/rain.

KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in St. Louis
If you rent a car upon your arrival, you can conveniently discover everything St. Louis has to offer from museums, to the Botanical Garden, to the Mississippi River. Rent a car as soon as you land in Missouri and cruise through the city and adjoining areas, like the Mark Twain National Forest, which is located about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from St. Louis.
Get a rental car upon landing at Lambert International Airport to be in the city in under half an hour. Service desks are located on the lower level of Terminal 1 and shuttle buses bring travelers to the pick-up locations of the cars. Companies include Avis, Alamo, and National. The I-70 E will bring drivers quickly and conveniently to St. Louis and many places of interest like the Busch Stadium, the City Museum, or, of course, your hotel.
St. Louisans have a reputation for not adhering to street regulations like turn signals or yielding, so double check before entering a roundabout or intersection -- especially since drivers here are also known to sometimes run a red light when it has just switched from green. Driving defensively will definitely help and, when adhering to speed limits and paying extra attention, drivers should face no problems.
Winters can bring rain and snow to St. Louis and road conditions are not ideal in the city when the cold weather hits, so make sure the rental car is properly equipped. Adapting speed when it snows or rains is pivotal, and, if possible, driving should be avoided altogether when the weather conditions get too severe. Also note that in St. Louis each district has its own methods to deal with the snow, meaning some roads may be salted while others may be plowed, making the streets narrower.
Adjust your travel time with cheap car rentals in St Louis to avoid getting caught in heavy traffic. Roads in St Louis can get congested due to the high number of commuters in the city. Commuters in the city drive to work from around 6 am to 9 am, so these are the peak morning rush hours. In the evening, rush hours are from 5 pm to 6 pm. During rush hour, the congestion is worst at the intersection of I-64, I-55, and I-44. Manchester Road, Interstate 270, Materdei Street, and McNutt Street are also prone to congestion. If caught in traffic, remain alert. Avoid eating, playing music, or using your smartphone while stuck in traffic.
The Lake of Ozarks Community Bridge is the only toll road in Missouri state. The bridge connects St Louis, the east side, to Kansas City, the west side of Missouri. Only cash payments are acceptable for its tolls, and you cannot cross the bridge without paying the toll. The payment is on-spot. Electronic payments and transponders such as E-Z Pass are not acceptable in Missouri. Credit cards and debit cards are also unacceptable. The toll rates vary depending on the time of year. Toll rates are slightly higher during the summer, May to September, than the rest of the year. Those driving truck car rentals in St Louis will also pay higher tolls.
A car rental center is at downtown St Louis. The St. Louis International Airport car rental center is not the only one providing cheap car rentals in St. Louis. Avis and Budget are located on Spruce Street in downtown St Louis, while Enterprise is on N 6th Street. Downtown rental locations provide similar services to airport rental locations, such as after-hours pick-up and a variety of vehicle categories. If flying out of the city, you can opt to drop off your rental at your provider’s airport location if available.

Ive had the worst experience I ever had with hertz rental car . I have never had an experience such as this ever . The customer service was bad we had to wait an hour to receive a car then the hertz store only had one car which they didn’t have the inventory what we had originally what was pre-paid for so we had to pay an additionally fee. Then the young lady that worked for the company lied to us told us we can bring the car back at 5:00 and would take us back to the airport . She lied to us when we got there the store was closed and we were way out not even by an airport. I stay on the phone with Hertz for and whole hour to talk about my experience. Didn’t get a live agent . Then when it was finally time for us to go we almost missed our plan due to the gate of the rental store was locked we had to give the key and leave the car on the property at Chevy dealer with Jason. Whole experience was awful. The young lady that they had working there was so un professional. She could have giving us the right times for business hours. Which she didn't she basically misled us on everything with the rental. Not a happy customer by far. Hertz never tried to make things right either. POOR SERVICE THERE at the store Nd over the phone. They never resolved our issue.

When we pick up vehicle representative was very short with me stating she had been calling me and they didn’t have a car. I showed her my phone number in the reservation, it was different from what she had been calling. I asked if there was anything g available she said no. I asked “ you have no cars” she said “ no suv like you reserved” then she said they had 1 Chevy Malibu. I accepted that car. The car was not cleaned it had dirt and stuff on the floor and windows were dirty. Just not the best experience I’ve had.

The reservation was for 7pm drop off but the office was closed. There were no instructions and it took forever to reach a customer service agent over the phone. In the end I had to leave the car 7pm on saturday and assume liability for it being parked there unattended until they opened again on Monday. Would never rent from Hertz again. They blamed Kayak for not making me aware.
I had the most horrible time getting to budget. The shuttles at the st.Louis airport were all separate so you had to take a shuttle to each company so I had to take 3 shuttles with a baby in a stroller/car seat. The online process was confusing it automatically put me back in St. Louis for drop off so I had to drive 2 and half hours to save 669.00. When I called customer service you can’t understand any of the people on the phone and they give you the wrong info as far as fees go which was scary because I was told I would be charged 900 at the end I was only charged 350. It was a huge mess. I am so dissatisfied and stressed out from the whole situation. On top of that the service desk person at the airport was not helpful at all to get the rental.

The confirmation did not clearly state that I could use the fastbreak pass so I waited on line for over 30 minutes to check in when I could've gone straight to the front. The agent who checked me in did not even tell me that I had a hybrid vehicle. I was unsure if it needed to be charged before returning it.

I was given a van that didn’t have working brake lights or turn signals when I requested a new vehicle was told it was the only one available and I would have to take it to a mechanic shop myself. Feeling like I had no options I went ahead and did as they asked and spent 2 hours of the time I was supposed to be on my trip sitting in a mechanics waiting room. I left the mechanic only to find the problem was still occurring. Had to go back to the rental agency and demand a new vehicle. From the time I first pulled up to the time I got home with a new van was 6 hours of stress and headaches. The return of the vehicle was a headache as well and took 2 hours and multiple phone calls as the drop off location was closed and only corporate office could change my drop off location. However they entered my name in their system wrong and said they couldn’t make that change due to my information not matching. After two hours on the phone the best they could offer was to just drop it off and call them again after the charges clear and dispute the late fee and change of location fee because they couldn’t preemptively cancel them.

When we picked up the car and went outside, the two greeters were chatting and showing pictures on their iPhones. After waiting a couple of minutes I had to ask if they were the greeters that were to get my car. We were anticipating getting a Camry as that was what was advertised and that is a car we were familiar with. The only car in the row of full-size cars was one !!! Impala. They radioed to someone and an assistant manager came out and began going off to bring up other cars. By this time, there were several other customers wanting any car to get onto their Business appointments. After considerable confusion, the assistant manager offered us a Hyundai Kona, telling us it was a considerable upgrade. We did not feel that it had much acceleration since we were having to get on the interstate and drive a couple of hours to our destination. When we returned the car on Natural Bridge Road coming from the east, we and five other customers turned in where it says “drop off.” along the fence. We parked the car and took our bags to the shuttle location only to find that we had left the car in an incorrect space and should have come down to the light at the next street to find your entry drive for drop off. This was considerably wearing on us in the heat to walk back with bags etc. Our wish would be a different sign at that turn in. I do wish to say that when we picked up the car, the shuttle drivers and the desk staff were more than polite, efficient and helpful. They are your stars. We would wish for a Code or number for discount that would make us return to Alamo as I am the one who does the booking. When my husband was working, he had a code for National and we always enjoyed the nice cars that we used during those years. Everything has changed since those days and that number is no longer recognized or honored. Thank you for your wish for feedback I do not wish to be a complainer as we recognize how difficult good service is to find these days. Mrs. Steve Stone

The car was fine but the pick up was in the wrong location. When renting a car from an airport you assume it is from the airport hire car branch. We arrived to find that our car was actually reserved in the down town branch, 25 minutes from the airport and closed in the evening. Had to get an Uber to the hotel that evening and then an Uber to the car hire shop in the morning. When I got there the car seat I booked was missing and only available at the airport so I had to drive back there. Not the best start to our trip and a waste of a day and Uber costs. Everything else about the car was fine.

They were closed when my plane arrived (on time as scheduled at 8:30pm). I never got a car. They were unapologetic that not informing me there would be no airport pickup or way to get the car I reserved left me stranded and scrambling to find a rental car last minute. I will Never do business with Dollar again. I suggest removing this Dollar store from your lists so this does not happen to anyone else.
Vehicle maintenance light was on. Windshield wiper fluid out. Check in representatives try to give me an SUV instead of a full size. Stated they didn’t have a vehicle in that class. Then backtracked and said they did. When I dropped the vehicle off, the man did not close my rental out. Still don’t have any final paperwork that should show a lower cost since I dropped off early. Nice new Toyota Camry, though.

At pickup, two employees were having a "robust" conversation as to who was responsible for listening to the vehicle numbers radioed back to them. It was a "passionate" conversation that prevented work from continuing. The conditions of some of the vehicles were a bit concerning. The F-150 clearly needed an alignment which could have been a safety issue. Another customer (disabled vet) was provided a Charger that had been in an accident. He waited around for roughly an half hour for help but no one came. He loaded his wheelchair into the trunk and left.
Lines were super long at pickup. Car was not clean. Tire pressure was low in one tire. Car smelled liked smoke.
