This was a roomy one bedroom apartment with accommodations for additional people to sleep in the living room (on the pullout sofa bed). The kitchen and sofa were a bit dated but convenient.
We expected a hotel room, but we got a small apartment with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. The amenities have been updated and were quite adequate. It is an older building and the hallways and elevators are dated, but don't let that fool you, the room was very nice. I especially liked that they had very large screen TVs in the living room and bedroom on regular Rogers Cable, not the crappy Hotel system that won't let you watch regular TV in HD. Breakfast was excellent with a large variety of options and EXCELLENT coffee. They didn't mention it, but there is a second room for breakfast across the hall on the other side of the elevators if the main dining room is crowded. Easy walking distance to Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal, and the ByWard Market The elevators are small, slow and cramped. Six people max per car. Having to pay extra for parking, but it seems to be the norm in Ottawa.
Free breakfast and internet. Really huge room. Well located. Good price. Access to a full kitchen. Mattress too soft. Couch not so comfy (and stinked a little). Breakfast sandwich not really good (but there's a lot more than that to eat for breakfast).
Very nice place for breakfast along with excellent food. Rooms are very spacious; I had kitchen, two dining tables, a separate living room with two nice sofa beds and another separate room for the queen bed along with two 46 inch TV's. Awesome staff people. Remote control for the TV's are a bit complicated but I got them to work. There's a busy bar right across the street which can be noisy during weekends.
Quality everything - un beatable location having to pay for internet
awesome! clean and friendly. perfect location.
Magnificent hotel and piece of Canadian history. Tremendous building Although an extremely expensive proposition, rooms/some older pieces within them need to be restored or refreshed. A little old looking.
Beautiful hotel; comfortable room; excellent location. Will definitely return.
Great location right in the heart of Downtown Ottawa, really close to a lot of the sites. Staff is informed and professional, and the facilities (especially the pool) are world class. Loved it here.
Toured both museums, Went to ByWard market, hiked , watched changing of the guard, shopped, ate well.
The location and history of this hotel left nothing to be desired. Luxurious hotel with friendly staff They charge you for everything - They wanted me to pay .$50 a minute for the business center! If you come to this hotel and need to do work, bring your own laptop and be prepared to pay for the internet.
Comfortable clean room. Friendly, helpful staff at Registration desk. Good ,prompt room food service. Friendly ,considerate room cleaning services.Clean air. Comfortable room temperature. Excellent food and service in both eating areas. Absolutely nothing. Beyond expectations.
Classic beautiful Hotel. Friendly Staff, especially the health club receptionist, who was great! Too old. Need refurbishing. Stained carpets, cracked ceilings, too many extension cords. Position of coffee maker hard to get to which makes making that morning cup a great hassle. Toilet we had in our bathroom was so close to the wall and door is in the way.
Pay extra for deluxe corner room. Worth it.
The staff were friendly, the location was perfect, breakfast was amazing. We will return!
Location, Breakfast, Close to Public Parking, Service Rooms a bit small, Small TV
The room and view overlooking courtyard. And the balconybreakfast Breakfast - croissants were stale, eggs old
Location and price Parking garage is very tight.
This hotel is like staying at home. The staff is friendly and very able to handle our two official languages. They go out of their way to accommodate your needs. Bravo! The hot breakfast could use some work.
The location is just perfect next to all the pubs, stores, resturants with patios, the parliament buildings etc. It is a clean hotel, staff is helpful. The hotel is a basic type of hotel nothing fancy or luxuries. If that is what you are looking for then it is okay. The indoor parking is very small and if you get there late at night you will not have a spot and you have to leave your car with your keys so they can move it once someone leaves.
Very accomodating and welcoming. Great location. Comfortable rooms. Mine had two twin beds with a kitchenette. Stones throw from everything in Byward Market. Parking was $15/day as on-street has 2-hour meters.
We liked the closeness to the By Ward market and the parliment buildings.
The location was very convenient to the office I was visiting and to local restaurants. The area had quite a few homeless people, that did approach you when walking to and from the hotel.
Right next to the Byward market, nice view on the market and even Parlaiment Hill from the balcony. Nice room, helpful staff. Breakfast included was a plus, although the quality of the breakfast wasn't fabulous one can certainly manage with it. Warm breakfast (eggs, bacon, potatoes) available for 5 dollars extra. Microwave oven and reasonably sized refrigerator in the room can be useful.
the location, the reception
That it had a small frig and a microwave, which allowed me to use the room as a mini-apartment The fact that the 'wake-up' system did not work. I missed breakfast three times and was late for an important meeting. (Sorry if this counts as a 'complaint' - but it may be useful for staff to check the phones on a regular basis.
During my five night stay, every single staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and polite, and unbelievably helpful. I've never been to any business, hotel or otherwise, where the staff have been so good. The room had beautiful wall to wall and floor to ceiling windows. It was always very quiet. The AC worked like a charm, which was great bevause it was 30 degrees outside most days we were there. The gym and pool were nice. On Canada Day the hotel let all the guests onto the top floors, which have a 360 degree view of the city, so we could watch the fireworks. Not many complaints. There was no microwave in the room and the ice machine was located on the floor below mine. It wasn't as close to the downtown action as some of the other hotels, but it wasn't too far out of the way either.
The hotel restaurant was excellent. The view from the room was depressing. The first one they offered looked upon a parking lot, the next one, which was the only other possibility, upon a construction site filled with debris. The reception desk personnel did not speak French. The bar decoration was not at all like the one posted on Kayak.
Excellent buffet breakfast that claimed to have the best bread in the city. They did! Modern rooms with very comfortable beds and perfect pillows. Parking lot is very confusing and you can easily scratch your car unless very careful. It is multi-level and the hotel entrance is down 3 and to the back right. It took me 3-stays to figure this out. Gym is small but gets the job done. Get an upper floor until the renovations are completed. It will be beautiful but is noisy at the moment.
Cleanliness, staff, location was fine since I like to walk. The pool was nice. Parking price was not listed. Cost $23/day! No mention of that in the add. Also breakfast was a straight $19/person. Too much!
the clean up job daily is very good they are renovating...
The room was very spacious, with all the amenites I would have wanted. Would like to try the restaurant on my next stay. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Could not figure out how to get the mini-fridge turned on, but by the time I realized there was one, was sort of too late to come in handy. Oh yes, and the charge for in-room movie was outrageous, almost $16.00.
Great lobby restaurant. Different twist on flavour with friendly staff
Close to convention center, shopping & Byswater (Bayswater?) restaurant area. Not far from Chateau Laurier or Capital Hill. Clean rooms. Friendly staff at front desk. Cool/funky little restaurant/cafe area on the first floor, which filled up at night. Common areas bright and nicely decorated, with lots of computers for general use. Room was small but functional and clean. Gym was a little disappointing, but had treadmills eliptical and some weight machines. It was fine for a short stay, but not much more. Nearby construction makes for some unattractive views, but it's not noisy or bothersome otherwise. Overall, I was happy with my selection for the price I paid.
Walking distance to Parliament Bldgs and Byward Market. Construction across the street and noise.
staff were friendly. the room was clean. Wifi worked fine. there was renovation going on and lobby floor is confused but the room was quiet.
Pillows were terrible. Ice machine did not work. Booked a hotel with a pool and it was not available to be used.
Good location for conferences - walking distance from convention center and shopping. Clean room and excellent staff. Room was directly above the garbage dumpsters, so very early every morning was rudely woken up by garbage trucks slamming dumpsters. I wouldn't normally mention this, but I specifically asked for a room in a quiet area. The dining option has a very limited menu and has a high cost compared to other options for the area.
This hotel is in a great location. And walking distance to most attractions. Great bar, Wifi would drop out every now and again.
Close to Casino, excellent food, clean rooms.
Clean room and bathroom and comfortable bed. If you're a gambler, you're 2 minutes away from the casino. If you're rather spend your time walking downtown Ottawa, it's only a 5 minutes drive from the hotel. I'm not the type to spend my days at the hotel so this place is perfect for me because it's a great place to relax, there are plenty of restaurants nearby if you don't like what is offered at the Risotto and it's easily accessible by car from either Ottawa or Gatineau. It would be so easy to walk from the hotel to the casino if there was a straight path from one to the other but unfortunately, you have to walk around the block and through the Super C parking lot. Otherwise, it's a great place to go !
Internet availability at reception There could have been more choice of fresh fruit at the breakfast buffet
Hotel staff was awsome. Very friendly and helpful. Rooms were nice and cosy. Close to the Casino du Lac Leamy and grocery store. my jacuzzi didnt work...:(No mini fridge and the pool was really small...
We liked everything! It was close to Ottawa, but far enough from all the noise of the city. The casino in Gatineau was right around the corner, the complimentary breakfast was delicious, the staff was kind and the room was perfect. A+
Quality rooms and amenities. No.
Asked for non smoking was given a smoking room
Line-ups for front desk were very slow moving, the two times I used the front desk staff.
rooms always very clean and the hotel is nice looking the food at the restaurant was horrible , yet expansive, I'm not sure I would go back to the hotel because of that
Restaurant included in Hotel and the Buffet breakfast. Hard to find.
friendly staff, good restaurants, good location, nice rooms, clean nothing
Pleasant, helpful staff. Large jetted tub and fireplace in the HUGE room. The hotel restaurant, Risotto was excellent. Provided us with discount coupons to the restaurant. Very outdated decor. Housekeeping attempted to come in our room despite having the do not disturb sign on the door.
We loved everything!!! it was right in the center of everything, so walking was perfect. there was nothing we didn't like.
We had an excellent experience at the Westin Ottawa. Our room was on the 21st floor overlooking the Parliament buildings - it couldn't have been better. The room was spacious and well-designed. We would definitely return here.
central position the filthy scum that surrounded the swimming and jakuzzi pools
Excellent bed, excellent location. It is walking distance to everything. Staff are very friendly and provide excellent service!
I had an amazing view on the 2 most historic sites in Ottawa, the parliament and the chateau laurier...that alone was worth the cost It is an average hotel and rather expensive, if I had a room facing the backyard it would have been very disapointing. No free internet which is really bad
Staff, location Kids running around hote,l screaming well after 1100pm ,older hotel, needs updated.
Helpful staff, clean room, very comfortable, good location but a little hard to reach due to current construction. Close to Byward market, which we loved for browsing, shopping and eating. Concierge was extremely helpful with directions for getting to and around Montreal, our next stop.
An excellent welcome, and room explanation etc. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Food excellent and good value. Not having beauty treatments available in situ-i.e. facials.
The comfort very good
They oversold the rooms. They did not have a room for me I had to sleep on a cot in a conference room!
Not only was the lobby staff friendly and engaging, they were extra attentive. The room with the Parliament view was fantastic and no details were overlooked -- linens, towels, cleanliness. Could not have done better for reasonable price or for greater cost.
Loved the location. There's nothing to dislike.
Very close to the canal for winter skating
Great location to walk to all Ottawa locations! Location, location, location!
Parking was expensive and it a long time to get the car. The Internet stopped before we checked out. Bathrooms could be better and are a little dirty. The blinds in the bathroom were very dirty. Bathroom should also have more towels.
Pay for parking
location, cleanliness, location room was drafty
Centrally located! Friendly! Helpful! Comfortable!!! Good rates! Finally installed safes for the room!! Bar and restaurant could have been open later with entertainment? Relax in Lounge after night out!!
The location and helpfulness of staff will keep bringing us back to the Lord Elgin There is nothing to dislike. The hotel features first rate amenities within a fine old hotel that is maintained impeccably.
The convenient location is the only redeeming thing about this hotel. For years I have wanted to stay at this hotel -- I finally had the opportunity and was sorrly disappointed by the way I was spoken to and treated by front desk staff. I asked reasonable questions and said please and thank you and was treated with "...yes but you booked this on-line". As if to say I was not worthy of decent service because I booked my room on-line at the last minute." My room was not as described when I booked and I would suggest the Hotel Management double check what On-Line Travel Services are offering on behalf of their hotel - so that people are not mis-lead and then asking your snobby Front Desk staff about what was promised and then not offered. I would have to say the price for a room is definitely not worth it. Rooms are dated and smaller than reviews and photos. The Lord Elgin did not live up to any of my expectations -- the Front Desk staff could do with better customer service training. However, BellMen/Valet staff and Housekeeping were delightful.
The staff were very quick and efficient in both the check-in and check-out process. The elevators were dated and were slow.
Excellent location for visit to Ottawa. Can walk to many places and others are close by. Short walk to Parliament buildings, Sparks street, Rideau canal, Byward Market, Bytown Museum. Staff friendly and attentive. Elegant hotel with spacious comfortable rooms. There was nothing I didn't like.
I liked the location and the decor of the lobby. Most of the staff are very friendly and professional. The food in the restaurant was great and well worth the price. My tv in the room did not work (no sound on the tv) It eventually got fixed, but took some time staring at the walls in the mean time. The pillows were very thin and cheap, I would highly recommend buying somm good quality pillows that are firm so guests would get a better sleep. At night I had little bites all over me, so I am not sure if I was allergic to the mattress or the laundry detergent they use. The parking service is extremely expensive and it takes a long time for the parking attendants to move all of the cars underground to get to yours, so that is not a very modern or efficient system.
Location and price Conditions
Great location and parking Its a bit old now. Rooms are out dated and smell like grandmothers house. Bathroom from the 80's and water pressure like an asthmatic smoker blowing water at you through a straw. For $200 a night you expect more.
Good location - convenient to bus stop When asked for assistance with getting a bottle of water because I was too sick to get out of bed - I was told to drink out of the tap. Also a confectioners bar was requested but all I was offered was to go to a vending machine.
I did not hear any noise from my neighbors. I slept really well. During my checkin, the staff was somehow indifferent to me. But during the checkout, another staff at that time was very nice to me.
Location, staff were nice It is dated and could upgrades. Carpet was not the cleanest, but overall I would say it is just ok.
In an age where preserving our environment is important, they kept replacing soap bars that were used once. On a side note, don't ask to settle your bill the night before for an early departure. Every excuse under the planet.
Room tatty tv didn't work moved room after much confusion would not stay again
I loved being only a couple blocks from Parliament, numerous restaurants and cafes. When I arrived, they gave me the wrong room (I booked a basic room and they gave me a room with a kitchenette). When they realized they'd upgraded me and I was staying three nights, they immediately downgraded me. I had already unpacked a little, had to repack, return to the lobby (at 2 am), and get a second room. Room number 2 had a king size bed that I wish I could post pictures of. The mattress was literally V shaped, as though an elephant had slept in the middle prior to my visit. Further, it didn't have a fitted sheet - just a flat sheet that barely covered the top, exposing an offer looking, striped mattress, ew. I eventually complained and was given a third, nicer room. So, I packed my things a second time, and went up and down returning/exchanging keys. I'd note that the woman working the morning I complained was absolutely terrible. I showed her the pictures I'd taken of the bed, which I'll eventually post on yelp, and she merely played dumb. I was not happy with the comfort or service at this hotel.
Bus stop right out front across the street, easy to get to anywhere in the city, we were able to walk to a couple museums as well as the canal for winterlude activities. We only stayed for one night and had a very jammed packed weekend so really only checked in, left came back to sleep then checked out when we woke up in the morning. They have underground paid parking across the street but it is a free service on the weekend so that was a plus! ceiling paint was cracking, bathroom very small and outdated, as well as some apparent damages to the door (chipping paint etc). Whole floor smelled strongly of cleaning supplies (harsh not nice) and also the air was so dry we both woke up with very sore throats.
honestly, absolutly nothing.I think I just made a mistake when i booked there, not what I was looking for at all. Can have better 4 or 4.5 star for cheaper....but for someone who like golfing,I guess it not bad. For the price, a breakfast included wouldn't hurt.
The staff were friendly and helpfull and the room was very comfortable. The setting is very pleasant.
Large rooms, immense treed lot, no complaints, directions to move around in and out of Gatineau city are lacking
We had a wedding there and the food at the reception was marvelous. The staff were absolutely useless, everyone of them. They had no customer service skills at all and you were treated as though only the amount of money that they could get out of you counted for anything.Door keys would fail and it took upto 2 hours to get it resolved so that you could get in your room.
It had a large exercising room. Much larger than most hotels, which made most of the equipment available to almost anyone who came into the room. Also, friendly front-desk service. Lot of teenagers when we were there. There were loud.
Room was spacious and comfy Did not feel welcomed. Was given room key with no explanation of my stay, timings for food or facilities also was the same when I left. Was not ask how may stay was. Felt not valued. Maybe because I spoke English.
courteous staff, tiny bathrooms
The staff was very nice and helpful. Beautiful suite. It was a bit too noisy sleeping in the living room.
It was close to visit family in the area therefore it was suitable to our needs. The rooms are mostly suites therefore a nice size and they are trying to be very environmentally conscious. The rooms are not as sound proof as they should be, I wonder if it is because of the size and therefore you can hear talking in the hallway and noise from other rooms.
food was excellent rooms are looking a bit old
the comfort, the calm, sports, access to the city
The staff were friendly and helpful with directions.there was an overall atmosphere of enjoyment. The bar was relaxing with the band that played.not too disturbing and interupting.you could hear yourself think.the room was clean and organized and accommodating. I found that there were not enough pillows and the square pillow was useless. I wished there was a microwave in the room as we were there for a hockey tournament and with eating out for three days it would have been nice to have the use of a microwave.
They provided a rubber mat for the tub very quickly. The maids were inconsistent. One day they gave us shampoo etc. and one day they didn't.
The staff was amazing.Easy check in and out.
rooms were very clean, well designed and attractive, would recommend strongly I booked my reservation on line. When we arrived the desk staff had no record of my reservation. It took a manager to find my information and she upgraded my room which was a very smart move on her part. Perhaps more training required or more competent staff. The on line reviews that I read before booking did not accurately reflect how nice the hotel and rooms really were, they did the hotel a disservice.
Nice, clean, good comfort Breakfast options very limited and low value for money. Will not (and did not) eat there again. Room cleaning ok, but not maintenance as reading light in room did not function, clock had no battery
the food was excellant. the room was very comfortable. We loved the pillows and the duvet. We will be returning Ther wasn't a thing we did not like.
Atmosphere was incredible Was suggested that we upgrade our room for $30 so that we could have underground parking. Our truck did not fit in the parking so we had to park outside. We were not given any reimbursement for this. We would not have upgraded if we knew the truck wouldn't fit. The staff person was not even apologetic. We loved the hotel however would have thought there would have been something you could do to come sate not being able to park even though we paid for it.
The room was comfortable, clean and bright. I was unhappy with the brunch. We went to the dining room for breakfast, before 10:30 and they were taking down the 17.95 buffet and we ate off the lunch buffet for 27.95. That was disturbing.
Easy access off main streets and away from noisy traffic.
The roon was immaculate, and ther were many complimentary items and services. The entire staff was extremely efficient and very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is by far the best we have ever stayed at. No
Privacy, Food, Spa and walkway along golf course Spa service was not very relaxing...expected better because the rest of the hotel is amazing. Needed a make up mirror in the living room since light in bathroom to dimm for make up application
Great luxury hotel. Good gym and pool. When the waiter at breakfast asked me if I wanted coffee I didn't expect to be charged for it separately. Something as basic and natural as getting coffee with your breakfast should be obvious and not something to charge for - regardless of how special and wonderful you may think your coffee might be. This is the first time throughout my many years of traveling for business that I have been charged for a cup of coffee at the breakfast. Due to this I avoided eating at the restaurant throughout my week-long stay.
Great location and the 2 been suite was the perfect size for us and the price we paid. Service was great. It was very busy but that showed the quality of the hotel, people were there for everything: family, sports teams, young friends. We were treated well and had a good stay! Some of our cups had lipstick stains on them and the hottub (part of the reason we decided on the hotel) was out of order but that's about it.
Friendly staff, excellent bedrooms, goof overall quality
2 bathrooms, convenience of the kitchen, fitness room and pool, taxi available The dish washer did not do a very good job cleaning the dishes (room 1509)
We went to the byward market and to the parliament buildings and walked along the canal. We also walked Sparks Street, shopped in the Rideau Center. Everything we did was within walking distance from the hotel. The staff were helpful. We were on the 22 floor, had amazing views.
My family and I stayed at Les Suites for nine days and I loved that the suite was equipped with everything and there was lots of storage!!!!!! I could wash and dry our clothes, cook a meal when I felt like or bring home left overs and heat it up! The rooms are very spacious and were always clean and fresh, and the staff were very discreet, not invading your privacy. They were also very courteous when you met them in the hallways and elevators. The location of the hotel is ideal, walking distance to the mall and downtown Ottawa. I felt comfortable and at home. I would definitely be staying at Les Suites on my next visit to Canada.
It's location is perfect to access shopping and tourist attractions. Parking is a plus in this downtown location. Pool, workout area was quite small.
I liked the closeness to the attractions and to the market area.Having cooking facilities is a definite asset for extended stays The pet policy of this hotel where only the premium rooms are pet free is detremental to my staying there again. With alergies and not knowing beforehand the pets may have been in the room could cause serious health risks to you custtomers,
space and facilities, plus convenience to city centre
Les Suites is wonderful if you have young children. The bedroom suite allows you to put your children to bed and adults can continue to enjoy their evening. The fully equipped kitchen is fantastic, children can have their regular breakfast etc. which helps with routine. Very close to market, shopping and tourist attractions. This is our second stay at the hotel and have been very pleased both visits. Parking is a challenge. Very limited parking spots and if you drive a van or larger vehicle, may available spots are too small.
The front desk staff were friendly, courteous and helpful also with info about surrounding points of interest. Great overflow parking solution.
They had over booked, so we didn't get the premium sweet that we had paid for. They made an error when checking us in giving us a room that was already occupied, adding a good 30 minutes to our wait to get into a room. Usually you can chalk that up to a good story, but we had an ice cream cake that melted while we waited. We had hoped to use that time to decorate the room for a surprise party.
on top of the events
There is No place to park in front of the hotel legally b/c the cabs take the spots. I forgot my razor and had one sent to the room. It was quite possibly to WORST razor ever made! My face was so badly cut it was terrible that a hotel would send this to a customer. This is two days later and I am still bleeding. A cheap disposable Bic razor would have served the purpose instead of this plastic with a dull blade. I should have expected more.
Convenient to downtown attractions and restaurants. trying to find a place to park the car before checking in.
Clean, comfortable room. Friendly staff. Wall paper behind bed was ugly! Shower needed a railing or something to hold on to....too easy to slip and fall.
Location, staff knowledge, design, spa/pool area All good
Spacious apartment like room
The staff was amazing and friendly and helpful! Also...great rooms! n/a
The hotel was close to shopping, Restaurants and easy walking to the house of commons and other sight seeing attractions
It said "Suite." I thought, "sure." But it was a REAL SUITE. A fully equipped kitchen. An ample dining table. A living room with with sofa and TV. A huge room with two Queen sized beds. AMAZINGLY comfortable. The bathroom wasn't cleaned to my liking. I sensed a trace of urine smell. But I have a very discerning nose.
Good location in downtown Ottawa. Very large, comfortable suite. (Much bigger than I needed - suitable for long stays.) Door to suite stuck most of the time; always took several tries to open. No breakfast at hotel.
Sure, we could have stayed at the Sheraton in Centretown (in fact, we have previously), but for basically the same price, we got a real suite: two bathrooms, a large dining/sitting area, kitchen, and balcony. Now, we didn't really need all of those amenities, but it was nice to sprawl out on the couch to watch TV and munch on leftovers from Good Eats (a great little restaurant down the street), rather than sit on our bed like we would at a regular hotel. The rooms were clean. The setting was quiet, even though we were still on the edge of Centretown. And the fitness center was quite good. If you like warm cookies or mood music in your lobby, then you might be disappointed. Otherwise, this is a very good hotel option to compare against the other downtown chain hotels, and a terrific option if you are considering an extended stay.
I have stayed at Albert at bay a couple times and enjoyed each stay. Never any problems. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Hotel is within walking distance of down town. I really love the kitchen and spacious spaces. This is a great hotel for families staying for a few days to see the city because you can offset the price of the room by having some meals, snacks etc in your room with the well equipped kitchen. Nothing.
It was spacious!!! Great value!!! One question that wasn't clear. The charge for the hotel is not at the time of booking but made by the hotel .... correct?
