Overview
At well over one hundred years old, the Chena Hot Springs Resort is an Alaskan icon. Started by former gold miners as a way to earn a bit of extra income by hosting a U.S. Geological Survey Crew’s stay in the area in 1904, it has grown into a popular spot for its healing hot springs. A resort and campgrounds in a relatively isolated spot, it is five miles from Angel Rocks Mountain and around 55 miles from Fairbanks International Airport. This makes it a destination all on its own and a perfect spot for a family holiday, a special event or gathering, or an unforgettable experience of Alaska’s amazing landscape.
Visitors can select from a long list of seasonal activities when visiting the resort’s activity center. Open 24 hours a day, it includes a coffee shop, the Aurora Café, serving all kinds of soups, salads, and greenhouse-grown foods along with treats and snacks. Summer activities include dog cart rides thanks to the teams out of Chena Sled Dog Kennel, ATV tours, horseback rides, bike rentals, and hiking. Winter brings authentic dog sled rides, snow machine tours, gear rentals (skis, snowshoes, ice skates and more), aurora borealis viewing, coach tours and chartered flights for sightseeing (extra fees apply). The property is also home to the Aurora Ice Museum, one of the world’s largest all-year ice environments. Guests can also take a flight to Fort Yukon Village, crossing the Arctic Circle along the way! There is the Chena Hot Springs Restaurant and the Trails End Lounge to enjoy.
Accommodations include cabins, lodging in the main lodge, yurt rentals, and camping in RVs. Lodge rooms are all ensuite and include entertainment systems, beverage centers, telephone services, and unlimited access to the hot springs.
Unique and remarkable, the Chena Hot Springs Resort is a must.
