Welcomed by a nice lady to this perfectly adequate little backpackers' hostel which is very convenient for Chester train station but not in any other way exceptional. Kitchen + a rather under-lit dining room with a large wall mounted TV. At the time of our visit we had the place to ourselves except for a group of three very affable migrant workers + one solo female traveller. Our room was at the back, so quiet enough but very small and basic with no furniture other than the bed + one bedside table. It was fine for a one night stay but we thought the place was a bit over-rated..
No chair in the bedroom + the table light didn't work , also bulb/s missing from at least one light in the dining room . Two mysterious and rather unsightly holes in the plasterwork in the dining room . Kitchen is clean but quite small and at the time of our visit was monopolised for over two hours by a group of migrant workers making a huge and pungent curry. Hostel appears to be unstaffed in the evenings as the owner's mum who welcomed us when we arrived, went home at about 6 pm.
Great location Fast check in Comfortable and clean room Good facilities
I emailed the Bunkroom twice to ask if it was possible to arrange a later check in than 10.30am but didn't receive a reply.
Central position. Clean and comfy
Much friendlier than hotel. Warm welcome dry comfy great kitchen great TV
Nothing as I couldn’t get in despite a prior arrangement with the manager.
No communication at all after a prior arrangement with the manager. On arrival I waited for an hour. No email! No text! No phone contact could be made. I needed to drop my heavy backpack as check in is not until the ridiculous hour of 4pm . Impossible to walk round town with a 6 kg backpack so a definite prior arrangement was made. I went back to the station and went back to London after hoping to spend a night in Chester. A guest departing couldn’t let me in but gave his stay the thumbs down.
