Located in Mompiche, The Mudhouse Hostel is a 1-minute drive from Mompiche Beach and 5 minutes from Playa Negra Mompiche. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and lockers. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The concept is nice, the place is kind of eco-friendly, the cabins are ok, the area is quite small but still looking good.
Cons: Too noisy, we couldn’t sleep because the roosters, trucks, and also the leafs on the roof made of aluminum.
Pros: Great place to stay in Mompiche. Very comfortable room, clean bathroom, lots of spaces to relax and meet other travelers. Well equipped kitchen. Cute dogs. Very friendly and helpful owners. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Pros: Mandy is a really nice host! There is a lot of space in the garden to relax in a hammock, on the Yoga Deck or at the bar. We liked it so much that we extended two times. Just the perfect hostel in Mompiche.
Pros: Honestly the best hostel I've stayed in in the past two and a half months! I booked the Mudhouse for a two night stay and ended up staying for a week! The hostel is spotlessly clean and excellently maintained. The owners Mendee and Andres are very environmentally conscious and as a result you can separate your rubbish as compost, tin, general waste, plastic and glass. Also for a mere $1.50 the they will provide you with a 20 litre water bottle and pump! In my two months of travelling South America I've never seen a hostel so environmentally conscious. The dorm is airy and spacious and the beds are amazing. In shared dorms in South America I doubt you'll manage to find better mattresses. The mosquito nets hang perfectly and wrap around the corners of your mattress i.e. don't hang from one point and cover half the bed. Also the bunk beds are not boarded at the end which means that if you're a little taller you're not cramped into the bunk, your feet and pop out a little over the end. It's also perfectly located. I'd the misfortune of staying in the town previous to arriving at Mudhouse and got hardly any sleep as music blared from every beach bar each night. The Mudhouse however is just at the start of the main road into the town which means you can get to the beach, bars and restaurants in three minutes but you're far enough away from the beach-bar madness to get a quiet an peaceful night sleep. An amazing place to stay. I couldn't recommend this place more!
Pros: What a great find! The rooms, service, staff, everything is amazing. The place has a great yoga deck with hammocks which easily seats nine or ten guests comfortably. I've honestly never seen a hostel to have such great communal areas, at least not in South America anyway. Mendee and Andres are great hosts and go above and beyond to help in anyway they can. I planned to stay three nights and finally left ten days later and I wasn't the only one. There seemed to be a queue of guests each morning waiting to ask Mendee if they could extend their stays. Really a great place to relax and enjoy life. If you're looking for a place to stay in Mompiche, look no further.
Pros: I had a really nice stay at The Mudhouse. The dorm was spacious and very clean, the kitchen is well-equipped, the owners are very nice and helpful, and they offer a variety of cheaply priced beers. I enjoyed waking up and doing yoga on the deck while listening to the birds. Max, their darling dog, was an extra bonus! Highly recommended!
Pros: The Mudhouse alone is worth seeing. The pretty bamboo cottages and the well-kept garden create an atmosphere in which you feel at home from the very first minute. Also Mendee and her team are wonderful and caring persons. Absolutely recommendable.
Pros: Mendee and Andrés have created such a wonderful hostel in the amazing Mompiche. You can tell they’ve really thought through every detail to make a backpackers stay as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Great dorms, everyone staying there was welcoming and friendly. Was hard to jump on the bus to leave! Highly recommend a relaxing few days staying at the Mudhouse :)
Pros: The hostel has a relaxed and pleasant vibe and the hosts Mendee and Andrés are warm and welcoming. They went out of their way to help us with everything we needed. We loved the yoga deck with the hammocks and all the plants and greens surrounding it. Well thought-out details in the kitchen and the bathroom make for an awesome stay. We can really recommend it!
Offering direct access to the beach, this Mompiche property is 1.2 mi (2 km) from Playa Negra Mompiche and 3 mi (4.9 km) from Mompiche Beach.
Pros: The only good thing about this resort is their beach.
Cons: Upon arrival we were treated in such a horrible way, we had arrived to the hotel at 12:15 after departing from Quito and having to drive for 6+ hours to get to this resort to then be told that we can’t enter the property until 3pm despite there being nothing mentioning this in the booking or no communication from the hotel (and they did have access to contact me as the personally emailed me to confirm that the details were correct) now we knew that checkin might be at a later time but we just wanted to be given access to the resort, have a drink and chill after such a long drive in the heat. But no the security guy told us we had to wait outside the resort baring in mind you’re near nothing, not a restaurant or shops he said we had to stay outside. I wasn’t having it especially after how much we paid to be told to wait almost 2.5 hours to be able to relax and have a drink so I asked to speak to a manager he bluntly said no “he will say the same thing I have just told you” I was so angry at the lack of customer service from the man. And even after I spoke to the manager, the manager did nothing about our unsatisfying welcome and just ignored us until check in and told us we can only wait In the lobby until checkin at this point it was merely 1.5 hours until check in so I didn’t mind I was just glad that my grandmother could sit comfortably and stretch her legs and my parents could start to de stress and enjoy the start of what we assumed would be an amazing get away.
Pros: Great Breakfast and Dinner and the beautiful location.
Cons: You can see, that the Hotel is 10 years old.
Pros: Good range of meals and drinks for all inclusive proramm. Good arrangement of shows and activities keeps the accomodation area quiet. Perfect system of the pools.
Cons: Only top management is speaking English - nobody else.
Pros: The view from the room was beautiful! The property itself was pretty with greenery and flowers. The pools seemed to be very clean.
Cons: We did not have hot water in our room. I would rate the food quality at all restaurants as 'ok', with the exception of the seafood restaurant and we were impressed with the food there. I felt that the overall value was not worth the price we paid. We were also offered a 45 minute time share presentation to receive a 3 day/2 night stay...only to find out we need to PAY for the 3d/2n package...

Featured amenities include express check-in, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good location, although Mompiche is a very small village so it’s always close to everything. The owner was very helpful.
Cons: Very many mosquitos and no mosquito nets.
Pros: Great food, perfect location, friendliness of the owner!
Pros: Spacious dormitary, comfortable beds. The bathrooms are in the room (toilet and shower seperated) and there's others downstairs
Cons: Kitchen was not clean and not equipped. The water coming from the tap was brown so couldn't cook with it.
Pros: Right next to the beach. Balcony and hammock. Friendly staff.
Pros: Kind and helpful staff! Great location. Comfy room upstairs.
Cons: Some things may need a bit of a replacement. I think the moisture has left it’s mark on some of the sheets and wooden parts of the room/house. But all in all we had a rear stay in Mompiche! Loved it and Tito and his wife (?) were amazing!
Pros: Beautifully presented property with lovely helpful staff. Clean, comfortable and with a nice chill-out area. Spacious dorm room with comfortable mattress and lockers for valuables. Nice breakfast included. Hot shower and good wifi in the dorm. Good cooks in the restaurant - freshest and nicest cooked fish I've eaten in South America in 4 months.
Cons: Some maintenance in the dorm is needed - shower door does not close properly. Thankfully I had a gentleman for a dorm buddy who left the room when I needed to shower. The card locks on the door were noisy and never opened for me on the first try. Mosquito nets would be nice - acquired a few bites. My first night I was informed of a party in the Hostal with the music only played loudly until just after midnight. However the neighbour started blasting his music before 6am that morning....Nothing to do with the Hostal, but women travelling solo be aware you may be propositioned and sexually harassed by locals while out in the village/beaches - makes for an unpleasant stay in Mompiche.

Pros: The location is good, near the beach. Comfortable bed with good mosquito nets.
Cons: I had to wait many hours for someone appear and do the check in. The room wasnt very clean and doesnt have hot water.
Pros: Very quiet and relaxing. The owner Suzanne was very nice and helped us with anything we needed.
Cons: The door was very hard to open. It didn't have a handle to help jiggle it open. The mosquito net did not keep mosquitos from eating us alive during the night.
Pros: Location was RIGHT ON BEACH!
Cons: Nothing! Everything was Great!
Pros: The room was beautiful, the location was beautiful, and very quiet. The perfect place to kick back and enjoy life for a couple of days. It's literally on the beach front. If I find myself back in Mompiche someday I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.
Pros: the location is on the beach, the kitchen and common area are pleasant and useful, the staff is helpful
Cons: the room needs a closet or at least some hooks on the wall to hang up clothes; there might be loud music or other noise sometimes in that area
Pros: Spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. Good mosquito nets. Beside the beach. Great veiws. Friendly owner.
Cons: When we stayed there was a lot of rain and we had leaks in the roof which wasn't pleasant but we were given a small discount. As there were windows that didn't close their were lots of flies and bugs in the rooms. Rooms needed shelves or more storage space.
Pros: Great location right near the best surf spot. You can check the waves while eating your breakfast. Lovely and breezy.
Cons: Would have liked a private bathroom
Pros: Everything was so cool at the place. Perfect!!!

Speaking English and Spanish at the 24-hour front desk, staff are always on hand to help. Pedernales is 22 km from Hotel La Caracola.
Pros: Breakfast was nice and the location was good
Cons: Since it was off season (no idea about this when we booked) things were not ready, especially at the property next door which has a shared pool which we could not use and there were palm leaves all over (maybe there had been a storm recently). The seats/lounge things near the beach were also not usable, dirty, splintered, etc.) The bathroom was old and the shower rod very rusty, the floor mat was very dirty, the balcony was also dusty. Renovations were noisy at times (read: nap interrupted)
Pros: Great place to get away from everything and enjoy a fantastic place right by the ocean! The owners are incredible people, always handy for any need or a nice chat. They can recommend day activities on nearby places always with great enthusiasm.
Cons: The hotel does not have its own restaurant (although breakfast is served nicely in the hotel). You can go to the next door hotel for meals, but it is a bit expensive. Any other option would require a few minutes drive.
Pros: Great location. Very attentive owners.
Pros: The place is what I was looking for. Super relaxed place, nothing too fancy, but nice and clean, right next to the beach. The owners are super nice and friendly.

Playa negra house offers some rooms with garden views, and the rooms include a patio. All rooms will provide guests with a dishwasher. Colonel Carlos Concha Torres Airport is 110 km from the property.
Cons: No has internet. Dirty toilet .
Pros: The man that they hired to work at the property was nice, however he was drunk when we checked in.
Cons: The owner charged us more than we were supposed to pay because it was a holiday. I was not aware that booking would find you a new location and cover the difference if the new location was more expensive. Please contact booking if she tries to make you pay more than the booking price. She was rude, and after we voiced our concerns to her about the price, she avoided eye contact and talking to us all weekend. Also, the door to our room was just PVC pipes covered in a trash bag so we did not feel super comfortable leaving valuables in the room.
Pros: Quiet area Really cheap Nice staff
Cons: The room was a bit small
Pros: Close proximity to beach, Freddie was kind and helpful.
Cons: We are not fussy about a room and comfort really however this place needs a serious refurbishment compared to the price they ask even off season is a total rip off compared to what they offer. Add sais see view there is none and balcony to sit out again there is none. The guy who is in charge of the place Freddie is very kind and helpful however the owners of the house live in another city and don’t care much to improve the place they even pick on Freddie because he tries to sell some chocolate in the afternoons which is great by the way. (We overheard a phone conversation between them) All in all to say the owners are cheapskates and if I would be Freddie I would have left the place long time ago. Place will fall to rumbles soon anyways. There is also a fan in the room that is so noisy you can barely sleep and if you put it off you die of heat. We stayed 3 nights and on our check-out a guy came, when he saw the place he left instantly. I don’t really understand how the reviews here are mainly positive and noone mentions anything of this. We booked the place based on reviews and being one of the cheapest. What can I say you get what you pay for, however pay a bit extra and choose another place
Pros: Wonderful owners and an incredibly helpful manager! Loved this place :)
Pros: The place is very relaxed and quiet (no noisey neighbours or dogs) has a kitchen with a good industrial style stove. The staff are very friendly and go out of there way to help you and organize activities for you (One night the staff took us to see the luminous plankton). The bed was comfortable.
Cons: The place could use a bit of refurbishment but while I was there the staff were constantly trying to improve things. For the price you pay it is what is expected.
Pros: very clean, good size room, outdoor kitchen, off the main street so away from most of the very noisy bars / restaurant, manager is very kind and eager to help
Cons: there isn't anywhere to sit and hang out other than on the bed in the room
