The peace & quiet
What a beautiful place, quite and peaceful. The rooms were magnificent.
Everything...lovely people, good restaurant, beautiful room. Great area in Normandy
The setting and adaption of this 13th century manor to a modern comfortable hotel of high standard with excellent facilities and grounds, including parking, was truly fascinating. A most enjoyable stay and though international it retained its French character. For me no problems at all. There didn't seem to be sheltered access to the dining facilities in the event of inclement weather and I wondered about ease of access for the disabled.
The hotel is beautifully furnished. The hotel is highly overpriced. It charges Paris rates at a place where Chambre d'Haute around the corner, that are as beautiful, charge half that price.
A beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Very peaceful and relaxed. It never felt like we had to rush anywhere to do anything. The bilingual staff were lovely and hepful.
Friendly staff, interesting buildings and great location.
The restaurant is amazing; the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Very charming hotel. If you are tall try to avoid the top floor bedrooms, they are nice but they have the roof very low what can be a hassle to walk freely in the room.
Interestingly creative facility made use of preexisting archetectural features of the buildings. Staff was friendly and helpful. Very quet. Convenient to the WWII battlefield sites and Bayeux. Excellent dinner experience.
Both the hotel and the restaurant and their staff are excellent.
Unable to fault this hotel. The staff were fantastic and spent time to deal with out limited French. Do not eat out, the Resturant was out of this world. We have paid a lot more for a lot less. Wish we could have stayed longer, we will be going back and don't worry the two young brothers speak perfect English.
The accommodation was very attractive. The room was comfortable and attractive too. The staff were also friendly. I should have liked a few more tea bags and milk in the room. Also, the directions to the hotel were not very clear. Was there a bar? If there was, this was not clear, and it would have been nice to relax with a glass of wine.
beautiful buildings, very clean and atmospheric
Excellent accommodation with luxury touches. First class service and food. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Many guests have been coming back to this hotel for years and it's easy to see why.
Everything was perfect
The room was lovely, the dinner very good, the staff were very polite and helpful. On arrival we went straight to Le Manoir De Mathan and we should have gone to the reception at the other hotel down the road. It would have been helpful if there had been some indication that this is what we had to do at the entrance of the Manoir. There was a bell but nobody responded to that and we were left to ask a hotel guest in our very limited french what we had to do.
The grounds were beautiful and our room was royally decorated. It felt like we stepped back in time but with everyday conveniences.
Such a beautiful location with rooms beyond expectation
General location (close to arromanche) general athmosphere Check-in and reception are in an other hotel, so it's not very confortable. And our bedroom (71) was clean and quite big in size but overall a bit "poor" in terms of decor. Poorer than others we've seen while being there and much poorer than those shown on the photos of the website.
The location was very good for where we were traveling. The hotel was very beautiful both inside and outside. We were three adults, we booked a junior suite so we would have three regulation size beds. There was a king size bed and a rollaway cot not of full length. We were charged sixteen euro extra for the cot each night.
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
Best food ever! None
Very spacious, well located. Perfectly fine for an inexpensive place to sleep. Very friendly staff Very, very cheap feeling furniture. (The cabinet panel covering the dishwasher fell on my ankle when I tried to open it.) I'm also not a fan of bathrooms with no shower enclosure.
Location was convenient, in that it was close to the train and bus stations, but the surrounding area was a bit dull (10-15 minute walk to restaurants and old town)
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
friendly staff easy parking cost
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
Cleanliness of room and attentive, friendly professional staff. Was not made clear restaurant 200 metres away from accommodation
very good room for familys, clean and tidy. food in restaurant very good and reasonably priced for France. staff polite and helpfull
Perfect for our family, 5 persons and 3 rooms! Nice garden. Situated near the beach and the historical surroundings (6th of June 1944). Nice staff. Nej.
breakfast was good and room adequate No
The room was spartan, but it was quiet and clean and the facility is well run. The restaurant was excellent.
Very friendly staff, duplex rooms ok but walls very thin and thus noise from adjacent rooms can be heard. n/a
Close to the beach, really good restaurant and spacious room. And the Sauna.... Hote Le Gytan is close to the beach but not in front of the beach
Quiet location, close to beach, and also easy to get on to the main routes to visit tourist attractions in the area Reception and our room were in 2 separate buildings, approx. 200 m apart. If this had been clear from the booking form, check-in would have been more convenient
Well located. Good menu, well presented dishes. Wines charged at silly prices.
Reasonable priced hotel well located with good restaurant Rooms need some refurbishment. Selection of menue could be wider catering for fussy teenagers older children restaurant quite expensive. Breakfast not good value restaurant staff not that freindly
Friendly, clean, excellent location. No complaints, loved it.
This hotel is always a good choice. The restaurant is an excellent choice when staying in here.
The friendly, helpful staff, the excellent situation and the good food and servioce.
used as a base for visiting the D Day landing sites and museums
Location and good, clean, spacious room. The plumbing was strange. We never managed to get hot water, which the staff did not investigate. There was no shower curtain, making it very difficult to ue shower, without getting the bathroom very wet.
Excellent location - perfect for D day landings. We watched the sunset over Mulberry Harbour - just beautiful. no air con and some very noisy neighbours - but that isnt the hotel's fault
Friendly staff, excellent restaurant, great beach location, clean rooms.
The hotel is beautiful situatet. the service perfect. and of course it is fantastic to be at the beaches, where the D-day was effected I have none
Facilities, staff and breakfast buffet all excellent. Initial approach to hotel by vehicle was ackward as it required us to drive down a bus/taxi only lane but once we figured that out, everything else was ease. On-site parking is available in a secure underground garage but it is limited so book ahead.
Very conveniently located and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.
Good location Car park is very difficult to use (very tight entrance, exit and little room).
The location, and the reception staff went beyond their duties to help us during the strike action.
staff where excellent
the constant helpfulness and charm of all the staff - they were always there to help. in fact we arrived one day early so had 4 nights and they were able to accommodate us - paid extra and had a deluxe room which was great. nothing at all
in the city centre noisy if room on the side of the street
Spacious room, very friendly staff and secure parking
We were only there to sleep a few hours, but it was a nice hotel. Breakfast was nice too. The young man at the desk was incredible! Very difficult to find even with the car navigator, hotel maps, map24 etc. If you don't know Caen, the minute you get in the city, call them on the phone, they speak English perfectly, and they'll guide you in.
very comfortable and the duty manager was extremely polite and very helpful very difficult to find even for residents who very kindly offered to escort us. Much clearer directions with greater information particularly about being able to use vehicle on pedestrian access
Location - finding it was easy and close to bus, tram & shopping. Parking - enough on site. Friendly hotelier with good English. VERY clean! Not spacious, but comfortable. No English TV channels - some English news channels like Sky, CNN or BBC would have been nice. Tiny espresso cups, can't have a 'normal' cup of coffee.
Free parking, large clean room, and comfortable bed.
The ability to cook in if I so desired. The room was clean and relatively spacious, the bed comfortable, the shower superb. The hotel was too far removed from center city, and wanted to charge me 10 euros simply to give me access to the phone line.
The hotel was fine;however, the staff only worked until 1900 and I arrived late the night of check-in ... but the staff left keys to the room out for me. Not daily room cleaning service.... no fresh towels the second day.... no toilet paper, shampoo, etc....
The price of the room The room layout
I loved that it had a kitchenette. The rooms were very clean. The hotel was close to everything without being downtown. The only thing I did not like was the bed. It was suppose to be a double bed but it was actually a bed under a bed.
The appartment was very clean although furniture outdated. Concept was good Short checking-in hours - 2 hours on a weekend!
Very comfortable and quiet no electric kettle or tea cups only problem
The price, the location, the kitchen facilities No housekeeping during the stay
convenience of a kitchen for small meals no laundry facility
Town Centre Location was very good No parking, however public underground opposite
Proximity to the airport was important, we enjoyed the breakfast at the loby restaurant as well.
central location, overlooking a square with trees and flowers
Location, modern, clean no
The staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned with fresh linen everyday. The hotel is very central and there is a short walk to shops, food, restaurants. Breakfast is reasonably priced and car parking opposite is also reasonably priced for 24hrs. It would have been nice for the hotel to have a restaurant for evening meals and a better bar area. The rooms lacked comfortable seating.
Friendly staff,excellent location
The room is in good sizeand internet is perfect no
excellent location, clean and modern and quiet
One of the better hotels I have stayed in, it ticked most of the boxes. Clean,Friendly, Helpful, Location etc. The rooms were too hot, the air conditioning unit did not work it continually blew out heat.I switched it off and slept with the window open
The behavior of the rep was very good. And they can speak English very well. I wish they serve only boiled egg at the breakfast.
Beautiful castle...friendly staff...outstanding kitchen..
We had stayed there once before and we loved the ambiance and the location. The lack of restaurant dinner service and of the bar on Mondays was a drawback. We had a much better experience when we stayed there last July.
The Chateau was beautiful. We had a very large room (superior room). It was a welcome respite after a day touring the Normandy region in the rain!Enjoyed cocktails in the lounge and dinner by the fire(be sure to ask to be seated in the room with the fireplace) We felt the location was convenient for touring but quite a distance away from other restaurants. The hotel restaurant was very expensive. We felt at least breakfast should have been included in the rates. Service was included but was not mentioned again when we asked.
beautiful location, services, facilities, breakfast, dinner menu for late check-in
Great location; fabulous restaurant; nice rooms; pleasant staff; wonderful place to stay for visit to Normandy
The restaurant was excellent. The room was very comfortable.
Beautiful building and setting, with lovely gardens - and the food was very good. Enormous, comfy bed! This is an expensive hotel for food and drinks (for France). It seems quite geared towards the tastes of wealthy international tourists, on a particular circuit - and the atmosphere reflects that.
Magnificent building set in beautiful grounds.Excellent for a stop off as close to Cherbourg and for visting Bayeux and the famous beaches.Good service. When we have stayed here before the food has been very good. However see below. On the night we stayed Monday 11th Sept there was a fixed menu at night.I appreciate many gourmet restaurants close on Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays but they are missing a trick during the summer months.Further we arrived at lunch and there was no food at all !!
Excellent ambience, excellent food, delightful pool, delightful decor, impeccable service, magnificent gardens
The hotel looks great from the outside. It was downhill after that. The hotel is isolated. Finding a batman was a challenge. Poor service. Bad rooms. We rejected the first one offered because it smelled damp and were put in the attic. Bathroom was new but decor of room and most of hotel was in dire need of a makeover. Expensive food was not up to normal standards of a Relais and Chateau property. Would recommend avoid this place. No one even answered room service calls on last day and there was no one at reception for over an hour to make up our bill. a bad experience.
The service overall was predominantly very good, especially at the restaurant. On arrival we came down for a drink after check in, we were kept waiting about 20 minutes before we were able to get a drink, I had to ask her her 3 or 4 times during that period,This was the only blip, the service thereafter was very good from the reception desk.
Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Excellent location very close to old city centre, shops and restaurants. Wonderful buffet breakfast. The 'standard' room was a bit on the small side, but ok. We had enough room for the 2 of us.
Quiet, parking possibility, very good situation
Outstanding food, excellent staff, wonderful atmosphere, good location. I first stayed here about 15 years ago and the level of service and quality of the food has been maintained with the same level of excellence and care - an outstanding tribute to the dedication and care of the management and staff at Le Dauphin.
Excellent location for town of Caen. Good for shopping. Parking a problem. Breakfast not good value for money. Nice hotel overall but for a 4 star rating needs a bit more. Bathroom very sparc with accessories, hair dryer very poor wall mounted. Bar expensive for drinks.
Hotel is clean, quiet and has very helpful staff
was wonderful and friendly. Diner was outstanding! too much rain...but I guess you cannot control
A high standard hotel in an excellent city centre location. Good parking.
Superb food and service
Hotel owner was helpful and welcoming, providing useful information about what was going on in the area and where to visit. Good value for money: simple and non-fussy accomodation but clean and comfortable.
Location for visiting the D Day beaches and Bayeux was excellent. Restaurants 3 miles away many choices. Owners were very pleasant and helpful with information about the sites nearby No
Clean with good breakfast Room a little small but comfortable. The hotel was far out of Arromanches.
Excellent friendly service. Rooms spotless and cleaned and tidied daily. Lovely surroundings. Plenty of space. Good breakfasts. Peaceful and tranquil. None
Staff were quite pleasant and helpful but the overall experience was negative Very cramped room, poor bed,old fashioned sheets and blankets.
Staff were very helpful, there was plenty of parking space, the room was clean and comfortable.WiFi was available. There was no restaurant facilities only snacks were available and it is 2.5 km to Arromanches.
very good food; great location for the normandy beaches and the cemetery; and the roses were lovely
It was a nice environment to relax at, after a day of visiting the Normandy beaches. Small room for its price
Price and location No
Quiet country location and very central to all the sights and sounds of the area. The owners were very accomodating to all our requests. Highly recommend
Staff very attentive & responsive to reservation process & confirmation. Nothing. Very nicely done.
Able to walk to location from train station. Uncomfortable bed.
this hotel was very central and the lift was very welcome.the doubleglaseing was good in the summer this room was very hot and with 2 night clubs across the road the windows had to stay shut, the room the bathroom were very small
Comfortably situated with respect to the city center. A quiet, nice place for travelers. There are several good restaurants in the vicinity. Parking facility is not available for the hotel's guests.
A good stay spoiled by a very noisy street - no sleep until 3 am.
I thought it exuded a warm, friendly atmosphere There was nothing I disliked about it
Very accessible location, restaurant was good, would recommend.
Location a little out of town centre and right on the ring road. In room internet was advertised as being free, but didn't work at all and hotel staff had no idea about it.
The hotel lobby was clean and the outdoor pool area looked nice It was not clean at all. Our room had filthy carpets.
Paper cups and poor tea / coffee making facilities. The cost of drinks at the bar. Lack of bath towels in the room
Clean, comfortable hotel. Some members of reception staff were rude and unwelcoming.
Large, comfortable and clean room and spotless bathroom. Easy access by tram into Caen centre.
Good for staying for a night. Not the worst of the Novotel hotels (comparing to Le Mans at least), but will not stay there next time. Actually do not recommend Caen at all, Rouen is much more interesting.
The room was comfortable and spacious and close enough to Caen In the room there was a chair which was a little bit dirty.
excellent launching site for surrounding countryside
An excellent hotel to use for a night's stay whilst travelling through France. Clean, comfortable & a good atmosphere.
