What are the cons of staying at Hotel First Eco Dieppe?
The Television remote control didn’t work properly. Grumpy staff. Filthy shared bathroom. Terrible room. Other guests having conversations in the corridor. Toilet facilities were very basic, and shabby. Bed was very hard. Nothing, all good. Showers were not great. Functional but a bit too basic for a hotel. Difficult to find light in the room. The signposts on the roundabouts to the ferry. Tired. Dirty, poor toilet/shower facilities. Very dated and needs major refurbishment. It was a bit noisy at times but then people are checking in late. It is basic (small rooms, only a basin in the room and no storage) but then look at the price. It looks a bit like a prison, inside and out, and there are no towels unless you buy one from the reception. You have to walk past the reception to get to the toilets and shared shower. Out of town. Roasting hot with no aircon and worn out. No towels provided. No bar. Accommodation was spartan and services limited. Noisy. Shared bathroom, no towels included, second bed not made up, very basic facilities, basic breakfast too. The facilities were very run down, needs redecorating and new bathrooms. We had reserved two rooms, advertised as ‘non-smoking’. The first room we went into smelled strongly of smoke and the bed cover was stained. We then went into the second room, which also smelled strongly of smoke. We left. The staff offered us alternative rooms but we had by then lost confidence in the hotel. We contacted the property to request a refund but they did not answer. Bedrooms are inaccessible to wheelchairs despite them confirming differently. Promised rooms had been mis-allocated elsewhere. Beds were beyond damp. We had to sleep on top of the covers. We left after 4.5 hours. Disappointed that only the name had changed from F1. No noticeable upgrade to facilities. Smells of tobacco. The lack of toilet in or even near the room, a serious drawback! Not clean. Don’t go with small children. People make noise during the night and early hours of morning. Floor was dirty. Smokey entrance. Radiator hanging off the wall in 1 room. Ladder up to top bunk was unsecured. The room was tiny and very very hot. The room was awful, the bed was uncomfortable, the light did not work, and there were no towels or other facilities in the room. The bathrooms were smelly, dirty and cramped. These cheap chain hotels are not cheap anymore. The door opens into your bed. You could barely open the door enough to get your luggage in the room. The room was dated and in poor condition. The bedding did not look or feel clean. We both woke up with rashes on our skin in the morning. The communal facilities are horrendous. They absolutely stank and again did not look or feel clean. The bed wasn't very comfortable but OK at this price point. Shower facilities were worse than public swimming pools. Old. Tired and not very hot. Rooms very warm and not much thru air. No bedside facilities. Table in other corner of room. Plugs were part of the TV console so high up and support for adapters. The very worse thing was the noise of the other guests way after midnight. Bed clothes were clean but very well used. Unclean room and toilets. Noisy people. Attention needed to be paid to dusting. Especially under the sink and on the notices at the back of the door. The latter is disappointing as you expect guests to read these and therefore leaves a bad impression. The room smelled of cold tobacco, I guess somebody smoked with window open. It's dated and not cheerful. It's very basic and doesn't feel clean. I don't blame the staff, it's got to be renewed and updated. Shared toilet light off when inside, weird.

Opt for a Room with Private Bathroom
Several guests mentioned that the shared bathroom facilities were basic and not well-maintained. Consider booking a room with a private bathroom for added comfort and convenience.
Consider Bringing Your Own Towels
Some guests noted that towels were not provided in the rooms, so it may be helpful to bring your own to ensure you have them during your stay.
Check Room Accessibility
Despite the hotel's claim of increased accessibility, some guests found the rooms to be inaccessible to wheelchairs. If you have accessibility needs, it's advisable to confirm the room's suitability before booking.
Plan for Noise
Several guests reported noise disturbances, especially late at night. Consider bringing earplugs if you're sensitive to noise or opt for a room in a quieter area of the hotel.
Verify Smoking Policy
A few guests encountered issues with smoke odor in their rooms, despite booking non-smoking rooms. It's advisable to confirm the hotel's smoking policy and request a room in a smoke-free area if needed.
Bring Toiletries
As shared by guests, the hotel may not provide toiletries such as towels, soaps, and shampoos. It's recommended to bring your own to ensure you have essential amenities during your stay.
Consider Alternative Dining Options
While the hotel offers breakfast, some guests found it to be basic and not meeting their dietary requirements. Exploring nearby dining options or bringing your own breakfast items could be a good alternative.
Confirm Bedding Arrangements
If you have specific bedding preferences or are traveling with children, it's advisable to confirm the bedding arrangements in advance to ensure they meet your needs and expectations.
Check for Bicycle Storage
Despite being an "eco" hotel, guests noted the lack of bike storage facilities. If you're a cyclist, consider confirming the availability of secure bike storage before your stay.
Plan for Late Check-in
If arriving late, be prepared for a basic and functional stay. Some guests found the hotel suitable for a quick stopover before or after ferry travel, but not for an extended or leisurely stay.
